Monitor – Leighton Baines

It’s something of an understatement to suggest Leighton Baines has failed to live up to expectation this term. The top-scoring defender in last season’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game with a total of 178 points, Everton’s left-back started this season priced at 8.0 but so far has returned just 27 points from ten appearances, an average of 2.7 per game compared to 4.7 last time round.

His lack of any real returns has been a strange one- reason would suggest the departure of Mikel Arteta would only have increased Baines’ returns, given that he’s number one for set-pieces and spot-kicks, but the emergence of on-loan Royston Drenthe has currently put him firmly in the shade.

As a result, he’s dropped in ownership, down to just 6% but with David Moyes’ side encountering a strong run of upcoming fixtures, you’d think that if ever he was about to realise his potential, now is the time.

Using our own ICT Index and Opta stats available to members, we analyse his displays so far to ascertain just where, if at all, Baines has under performed.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

just a piece of statistics for all those expecting a change of fortunes for everton:
everton with arteta: Played 174 won 75 (43%)
everton without arteta: played 69 won 24 (34.8)
    before 2009 cruciate injury:
with arteta 43% win, without arteta 30.4%
    after 2009
with arteta 43% win without arteta 38.5%

so the fact that arteta's abscence for 1 season will make everton lose between 10 and 15 pts minimum
in other words 15 pts is the difference between birmingham who got relegated with 39 pts and everton who came 7th with 54 pts!

i love everton and im very sorry for their difficulties but at the moment im losing faith

drenthe is fast and good, but he will need that killer through pass to break a defensive line on the wing and atm rodwell seem to do it on very limited occations but neither fellaini nor osman or cahill are able to release him, when he is receiving the ball to his feet he is still left with a lot to do.
that team was designed to work with a playmaker and now they need to shape a new identity and its not always a simple thing to do especially with the same players

Hey guys would love some feedback on my team for this week:

    Vorm Krul
    Shawcross Wilkinson McAuley
    Pilks Mata VDV Silva
    RVP Aguero Sturridge

Subs: Enrique, Allen, Simpson 1,5 in the bank

I am currently thinking if I should get Jones in for Enrique and play him in place of Wilko or can I afford to save a transfer this week?
Lack of United attacking coverage is also a problem so is there anything I can do about that?

Good team mate, there aren't major flaws but if you feel that you could improve your team, some Utd player in could help. But we can't be sure that Jones will start

Thanks Cool J. The thing is that both Nani and Jones are likely to be rested so that only leaves Rooney and i'm not sure I want to drop Aguero for him just yet. Also I have been looking at Lampard so i'm desperately trying to save a transfer so I can decide next week whether I want him or Rooney.

Here's something for you to do, choose the better one...

    a)
    KRUL / Vorm,
    WILKINSON / HIBBERT / Kompany / Enrigue / Simpson
    Silva / Vdv / Sess / Drenthe / Dyer
    ADEBAYOR / Rvp / Roo

    b)
    HOWARD / Vorm
    JAGIELKA / BAE / Kompany / Enrigue / Simpson
    Silva / Vdv / Sess / Drenthe / Dyer
    BENDTNER / Rvp / Roo

So it goes krul, wilko, hibbert, ade against howard, jags, bae, bendybus

Take your time, think and analyze, then give me your wisdom - I'll take the credit 🙂

If you're still about, is this Herrnia League thing serious? If it is then I'm afraid I'm a fellow sufferer too-had a lower back hernia last year. No idea if was L5 or L4 or what but it was extremely painful. Had to lay off the booze during the World Cup as well. Can you imagine how horrendous it was watching England stone-cold sober?

On a WC still from last week, any additional transfers to be made?

    Krul/Vorm

R Taylor, Brown, N Taylor, Shawcross, P Jones
    VDV, Milner, Ramsey, Sess, Walters
    Van Persie, Rooney, Bendtner

    0.3 in the bank

Feel over doing it with Sess and Bendtner but FULHAM, WIGAN, wolves, BLACKBURN, suggests worth sticking with for the next 4.

Equally Walters to stick with for the next 2, then possibly downgrade to Rodwell, so someone else can be bumped up.

R Taylor has horror run, but bought at 4.2, so will only bring in 4.7 on transfer out. After the horror run it doesn't look too bad again.

I have Krul/Vorm myself but were I on wildcard I would consider a switch to keepers who have a better runs in the short term, that said it's still a decent combo. Milner is also a big rotation risk despite his good form so that's a bit of a gamble.

However my primary criticism of this team is the problem you're going to have picking a front 8. If you're going to play Bendtner and Sess then how are you also going to play Walters?

The only way to downgrade to get Silva in would be Rooney, Van Persie or VDV.

Silva played in Costa Rica last night, plus in gametime to points, Milner compares favourably overall.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to have Silva but not at expense of weakening rest of the team.

Milner has started 5 out of 7 last Champions League and Premier League games, with the Prem game being argued was rest.

Silva has started 6 out of last 7.

Current thinking is Ramsey benched for the Norwich game (which I'm reluctant to do).

Milner looks likely to start against Newcastle on weekend, hard to find anyone else to bring in instead at price range, plus otherwise no City cover whatsoever.

I looked at thought it looks a bit too strong for this week, but running it the next 4/5 team weeks, it seems alright.

Lack of Silva is the main issue, but there are all sorts of ways of getting points. Like me you've doubled on Newc and Swans defence - doesn't often give me a rosy feeling, but can be lived with. Pretty good overall.

Anyone care to enlighten me of their thoughts on this dilemma?
    A. Adebayor and Hernandez
Pro's - 2 solid goal scorers with good fixtures.
Con's - Chico is not nailed on each week and I would hate to be paying 10mil for a player only for him to be benched, Adebayor seems to not score well with VDV (who I have if that is also a con) playing and is out of form.
    B. Bendtner and Rooney
Pro's - 2 nailed on strikers, both on pens and both brilliant fixtures. Bendtner scored in both games for his nation this week which will give him even more confidence. Rooney is almost certainly going to go back up front with the return of United's midfield and Welbeck a doubt (if I read correctly)
Con's - There is always the risk of Rooney dropping deeper if injuries happen it seems, and well...Bendtner is Bendtner 😕
    Thoughts?

I prefer option B by some distance. You can switch Rooney out for anyone (assuming you already have RVP) so that's useful if say Aguero catches fire. Hernandez is just too much money to spend on a rotation risk IMO so you could end up just having Adebayor over Rooney AND Bendtner if SAF decides to screw you over.

I think my prejudice stems from the Arsenal days when RVP would be out and he'd be such a tempting price so you get him in then he manages to miss 5 open goals and get booked. Scars.

brought hernandez for 1 week for the liverpool game, can off the bench and scored
currently have adebayor and very happy with his average but consistent returns
thing is adebayor is more involved int he buildup play and thus gets the odd assist here and there (although most of them are not recognised as ones in the real game) hernandez scores and thats it.
if ur trailing get chicha he's a good differential otherwise addebayor is a safer bet.
as forme i prefer to sleep on friday night knowing that at least 14 of my players are starting

rooney is simply out of this game for me, the likes of rvp kun and suarez are still better bets, and yeah i know ......suarez

B for moi! I think we'll see Rooney up front or "in the hole" as they say. Can't see him playing centre mid again.

The thing with Rooney that I've noticed is that no matter what position he is told to play, he always plays a deeper role than required.

      Striker>Attacking mid
      Attacking mid>Centre mid
      Centre mid>Defensive mid

It's annoying from a fantasy perspective and as a United fan as clearly someone isn't performing for him to need to do this!

    Vorm
    Baines, Kompany, Brown
    Silva, VDV, Ramsey, Drenthe
    RVP (c), Adebayor, Sturridge

    (Kenny; Dyer, Ward, Simpson)
1.7 in the bank, 0 FTs.

Got the right keepers? Should I take the 4pts to board the Bendy Bus?

He only has 4 of mine, interesting.

I'd be playing Kenny over Vorm this week if I was you, but I understand you'd be hoping for muchos save points from SuperVorm.

Great team for this weekend though, can't believe you can afford all that as well as having Baines and Kompany in defence! Nice!

It's only because Sturridge is so cheap. A lot of people have Aguero in that place for example in a very similar team.

Oh and I cant afford all that with 1.7 left over too 😀 its not a squeeze.

There's always that chance of a Liberty Stadium penalty, but I think it's a bit over optimistic to think he can maintain his home scoring form against this weekend's opposition.

Whereas Stoke look like they might be in trouble.

Part of me thinks Helguson is a better prospect to start than Sinclair... but part of me thinks that Helguson is a better choice to put first on the bench than Sinclair...

    😆

This bloody article :). Spent about an hour on the Player Stats in the Member's Area the other day studying Leighton's stats and was surprised how creative and threatening he still was in the ICT index.

The article has confirmed though that he is worthy of some serious consideration. He's undoubtedly overpriced but I must admit, I'm tempted. High risk potentially high reward

What do you make of this midfield?
Silva VDV Walters Drenthe Allen Baines
    😉 😉

          😆

          Possible defence would be:

          Baines BAE Brown Wilkinson McAuley

          Downsides to Bringing in Baines
          1) I can't have Vermaelen.
          2) I can't have Rooney up front. It would have to be RVP Aguero Bendtner instead.
          3) Overkill with Drenthe already in there

I agree, but Baines in means a hit for me at the moment.

Meanwhile I too have been considering the stats re midfielders.

Looking for one of Drenthe/Walters/Sess/Eagles.... all four have very similar recent ICT stats, all four have reasonable fixtures and all four are on form. Real tough choice. Anyone care to help me make my choice?

Yeah I looked at this last week (wrong week to get him but oh well) - he's putting in the stats to suggest that return will come. Only problem I'm worried about is the lack of somebody to head in his crosses but looks like Cahill is back this weekend so good times.

    Morning guys, rate RMWCT

    Vorm. Kenny
    Jones, Enrique, Brown, Wilkinson, Simpson
    Lamps, VDV, Silva, Allen, BJohnson
    RVP, Hoillet, Dzeko

    thoughts i’m having are;
1)Downgrade Brown and get Vermaelen in for rotation threat Jones, but no unted coverage 🙁

2)Downgrade Jones or Enrique and get Sess/Drenthe/ Walters in for BJ + upgrade Hoilett to Bendy (not much of an upgrade 😉 )

3)Go all cheap at the back and get Rooney in for Dzeko

    any opinions appreciated,

Hmm, getting on the Bendybus allows me to do Hutton -> Verm. But I made the provisional transfers, and it just didnt look right. He was there, staring at me, being all confident and telling me how many points he was going to score for me, but I just couldnt shake off the feeling that he's a donkey. Sorry Bendy, I'm handing back my ticket.

    WC team

    Vorm Krul
    Baines BAE Brown Wilkinson McAuley
    VDV Silva Walters Drenthe Allen
    RVP Aguero Bendtner

    Happy.

Hoping to make a bit a value in the last few days which may facilitate a possible Aguero > Rooney move. Apart from that though I'm finding it difficult to tinker any further with this.
