Watchlist

The Watchlist – Adel Taarabt

The enigmatic architect of QPR’s euphoric promotion campaign, Adel Taarabt’s haul of 19 goals and 16 assists last season marked him out as the prime Fantasy Premier League (FPL) target from this term’s graduate teams. Undoubtedly skilful, the reproaches of selfishness and defensive negligence torpedoed his two top-flight seasons with Spurs but, with a starting berth for the Hoops seemingly assured, many backed the Moroccan magician to silence the doubters and light up the league.

Though initially priced at a thought-provoking 6.5, a lacklustre start to the campaign saw Taarabt’s investors running for cover long before his transportthemed fall from grace under Neil Warnock hit the back pages. Banished to the bench in November and assuming the role of bit-part player under the old regime, the Moroccan –with no goals or assists to his name- has even made Victor Moses seem particularly prolific this term.

Returning from the African Cup of Nations last weekend, Taarabt was immediately installed to the first-team by Mark Hughes. Partnering Shaun Wright-Phillips on the flanks against Wolves in an aggressive 4-4-2, he emerged with great credit from a threatening display by a ten-man QPR. His new manager was clearly delighted with the Moroccan’s contribution and, having pulled Taarabt out of his hat, Hughes appears little inclined to employ him as a bench-warmer over a run of games (bla FUL EVE bol) that should provide ample opportunity for attacking returns.

New acquisitions Bobby Zamora and Djibril Cisse have already made their mark in a QPR side that suffered earlier in the season from a glut of creators and a dearth of reliable finishers, and Taarabt looks set to benefit from having a more clinical outlet for his technical wizardry. With his price down to 5.8, Taarabt is now in direct competition with Joey Barton (5.8) and Shaun Wright-Phillips (5.9) for those looking to invest in QPR’s midfield over this favourable run.

Barton’s holding role may put him at a disadvantage from an FPL perspective in a setup that promises attack from the flanks, and with Taarabt presumably restored to direct free kicks, Barton’s potential looks more limited under the new regime. With two assists in his last four games, Wright-Phillips is doing his best to dispel his customary aura of frenetic impotence, but whilst Taarabt never looks far away from conjuring up a piece of magic, Wright-Phillips never looks far away from falling over his own feet.

With the wildcard window a homogenising influence on our squads, picking the right differentials has never been more important, and, with just 3% ownership, the new dawn at Loftus Road may well prove beneficial for this summer’s forgotten FPL favourite.

Still having some tinkering between walters and huth, which one should go this week and which one next week.
If you have some time and a good samaratin feeling, give this a little tought.

    a) I could do Walters => Siggy this week and bench huth. Play Kompany, Senderos, Enrigue in defence. This would mean that I have to bench one of sess/ba to play siggy tough.

    b) Play safer and do Huth => Evans this week and bench walters. Play Evans instead of Enrigue in defence.
This would mean I could do for example Linde to Krul next week, altough I have sorensen so I'm quite happy to play him gw26 + 27...
Also could take walters out then, despite of his two home games - I think I don't want to bench anyone of dempsey, silva, bale, sess, rvp, aguero, ba (gw26+27).

I'm thinking a) atm, but hate to see walters losing value, maybe that's not so much of a issue anymore this season.

    Team is

    Sorensen (Linde)
Kompany / Senderos / Enrigue (Simpson, Huth)
Silva / Bale / Dempsey / Sess (Walters)
    Rvp / Aguero / Ba

    cheers!

I have the same front 8 as you, with the exception of Dzeko instead of Aguero and I'm keeping Walters as bench fodder this week and swapping next week, otherwise I've got a headache who to bench.

I'd transfer out Huth this week, especially as we dont know yet if Enrique is going to play.

      b. liverpool wont keep a CS, enrique health is uncertain right now anyway. walters situation stinks but at least you know he's the one to bench rather than benching someone with more potential. your 3 starting defenders now consist of 2 that didnt play last game due to injury and another that got subbed off due to injury, should one of those 3 not play, you will want evans.

thanks guys, and no matter what I wrote, I'm currently thinking BBB) too - for reasons that fuzzy mentioned!
I just hope my luck with united defence don't go on and on if I take evans in.

Took lindy - injured before I even played him.
Took evans & jones - injured in first game if I remember correctly.

Doing A would give you too much of a selection headache. One reason I chose to hold off on Ba so I didnt have the problem. Morison fits snugly on my bench as does Walters.

I'd sort your DF out. But the trouble is there are not really any great DFers I'd want in that price range until Evans in GW28. In your b) think you might just be transferring in a 2pter and playing him over a 1/2pter in Enrique (if fit).

Pool will score against Utd and We will score (hopefully more) against them.

Could try a massive punt on Cahill or Bosingwa that will possibly carry you through to GW28 and Evans transfer

Yes, I was thinking Cahill, but too much of risk there for me now.
I can play evans next week too and like you mentioned, I want him for gw28 anyway, so maybe it's good to use this transfer now.

Going back to the captain issue for this week. I've dwindled the lead in both my work MLs to just 11 points (same person in 2nd).

A couple have Bale in their team, none so far have Dempsey except me, but we all have RVP, so I'm pretty certain most will go for him for the armband. Do I do the same, as a safety measure or opt for Dempsey (currently on) or Bale to try and increase the lead?

    Any suggestions?

Seems to be split between RVP and Dempsey. Trouble is you can virtually count on RVP to score every match whereas Clint seems to have games of scoring or not doing anything and sod's law, if I captain him, it'll be a nothing week.

I think I'll have to go with my gut feeling which at the moment is Dempsey.

If all those teams fail then I won't be on here again.......for at least a week 🙂

Yep, I'm currently on RVP (c), Bale (vc). Flirted with the idea of Dempsey, Aguero and Siggs, but the former two are just way more consistent and have hit double figures more than the rest.

Trouble is outside Aguero (who has 1 away goal since GW6) they don't have an obvious candidate. If Demba Ba played for them I think we'd have our captain choice sewn up for the week. Fully expect City to win that game, perhaps very comfortably.

Dzeko is currently my VC. With Aguero's away record and the knowledge that Balotelli will be back next week, he might play a blinder.

I suppose it makes it a bit more acceptable. Won't you lose lots of cash buying him back though? And if not why didnt you buy him earlier? 🙂

I personally think Bale will terrorise our (Utds) DF and we all know the potential for goals in a North London derby so he could easily do something in either match.

I got him for 8.9m so was pretty late to that party...so I'd lose around 0.4m. Fair point about the NL derby, although if we have Sagna back up to full fitness and Verm back in the middle then I'd surprised if they scored many at the Emirates. Equally MUN are capable of shoring up when required. Hmmm, food for thought...

If I'm being serious, old english classics are great to read, I suggest you start off with the great gatsby, Uncle tom's cabin, A tale of two cities and the black tulip. Then underline and see the words you don't understand, after that progress to jeffrey archer and Agatha christie. They're both fun to read and improve your vocab.

Hence, I'm going for the relatively 'safe' option of bale vis-a-vis dempsey.

I'm with UDIT. 2 app points, 4/5 for a goal (Str/Mid) and a couple of bonus points.

If Bale scores get 3 bp's and a CS he'd get 11, very nice.

    Christina - 2 things
1). I believe the new management is not pumping enough assets to meet the target of top 1k by the end of it's tenure. The results have been static in the last 4 sessions and the turnover's are simply not good enough.
2). More importantly, who's Rabe Botha?

      Lady guy...

1.You just stick to what you are best at. Making monkey cracker with crazy gays lick.
2.My older brother, whose company has never, since introducing me to the FPL 5 odd years ago, posted better results than mine.

I'm fighting at all fronts(mini league, Reserves h2h and top 1k) only difference is this year it seems to be getting very personal with old man Rabe breathing down my neck.

thanks mate. that thought crossed my mind but guess ill have to wait and evaluate how aguero and rooney are both doing at that point. the only thing is I don't think city's fixtures til the end are too bad either....

if only welbeck was nailed on I could do aguero and walters to welbeck and nani/valencia

i'd go for simpson or santon. could also take a punt on bos or cahill? or could get in evans a couple weeks ahead of time.

I was planning to get in someone thats £4.5 or cheaper so I can free up some funds to get Aguero next week. I can't get any other newcastle player unless I swap RTaylor out. But Huth is dead weight right now unless I should stick?

I see. with brown out the only defenders of that price that interest me are evans and simpson/santon or maybe a swansea defender. I took a punt on taiwo but looking to get rid soon. ohh you already have three newcastle? okay then i'd probably do huth to evans so you'll already have him for their good fixtures then i'd probably downgrade raylor to simpson or santon next week or sometime in the near future (see my post just below in response to joe90)

Got 2 frees this week, should I use them?

    Vorm (Krul)
    Kompany, Assou-Ekotto, Simpson (Evans J) (Taylor R)
    Dempsey, Sessegnon, Bale, Silva (Dyer)
    Zamora, Aguero, RVP

might use one to get rid of raylor (injured and questionable spot in the team once everyone is back) and save the other one. then you can use the cash to upgrade zamora to ba next week

First job of the day: Update Champ Manager CV and send to the FA.
Second job of the day: Seek advice on whether playing Bogdan instead of Krul this GW is a good idea or not.

wont say its a "good" idea but its something i think i would do.

i have just admitted to doing things that i think are not a good idea. No wonder i stink at this game.

If I'm playing 343 this week and my two of my defenders on the bench are dead and guaranteed not to play will my midfielder come on and make it 253? is that possible?

No, you must have three at the back. So your mid will not come off the bench.

If they did allow that there would be a hot market for 'dead' defenders thats for sure.

You'd be gutted if one of em played as well
