Watchlist

The Watchlist – Adel Taarabt

The enigmatic architect of QPR’s euphoric promotion campaign, Adel Taarabt’s haul of 19 goals and 16 assists last season marked him out as the prime Fantasy Premier League (FPL) target from this term’s graduate teams. Undoubtedly skilful, the reproaches of selfishness and defensive negligence torpedoed his two top-flight seasons with Spurs but, with a starting berth for the Hoops seemingly assured, many backed the Moroccan magician to silence the doubters and light up the league.

Though initially priced at a thought-provoking 6.5, a lacklustre start to the campaign saw Taarabt’s investors running for cover long before his transportthemed fall from grace under Neil Warnock hit the back pages. Banished to the bench in November and assuming the role of bit-part player under the old regime, the Moroccan –with no goals or assists to his name- has even made Victor Moses seem particularly prolific this term.

Returning from the African Cup of Nations last weekend, Taarabt was immediately installed to the first-team by Mark Hughes. Partnering Shaun Wright-Phillips on the flanks against Wolves in an aggressive 4-4-2, he emerged with great credit from a threatening display by a ten-man QPR. His new manager was clearly delighted with the Moroccan’s contribution and, having pulled Taarabt out of his hat, Hughes appears little inclined to employ him as a bench-warmer over a run of games (bla FUL EVE bol) that should provide ample opportunity for attacking returns.

New acquisitions Bobby Zamora and Djibril Cisse have already made their mark in a QPR side that suffered earlier in the season from a glut of creators and a dearth of reliable finishers, and Taarabt looks set to benefit from having a more clinical outlet for his technical wizardry. With his price down to 5.8, Taarabt is now in direct competition with Joey Barton (5.8) and Shaun Wright-Phillips (5.9) for those looking to invest in QPR’s midfield over this favourable run.

Barton’s holding role may put him at a disadvantage from an FPL perspective in a setup that promises attack from the flanks, and with Taarabt presumably restored to direct free kicks, Barton’s potential looks more limited under the new regime. With two assists in his last four games, Wright-Phillips is doing his best to dispel his customary aura of frenetic impotence, but whilst Taarabt never looks far away from conjuring up a piece of magic, Wright-Phillips never looks far away from falling over his own feet.

With the wildcard window a homogenising influence on our squads, picking the right differentials has never been more important, and, with just 3% ownership, the new dawn at Loftus Road may well prove beneficial for this summer’s forgotten FPL favourite.

someone has to be on the front lines. there will be plenty of ridicule about an everton dgw when it comes around to be sure. 🙂

still they are a defensive minded club with a favourable run of fixtures plus an extra one, the dgw is just a bonus. albeit a one point bonus.

    Here’s my thinking

This week already made my 1 FT but is Val > Silva worth the -4

    GW26
    Enrique > Kelly & Aguero > Rooney (c) -4

Not losing money on Aguero so back to Aguero GW 27 and then back to Roo GW 28 onwards, but will still have Silva and Richards for City cover.

          hehe

I guess I should have been more specific.

Suarez, Rooney, Carroll, Gerrard, Lampard and Torres punts. I doubt it will work. Why not go with something in a proper FPL form that gets you points instead of hoping a certain type of player hits the form exactly in 4 game week's time.

Actually, I said I'm thinking. Thinking does not mean I am certain that this is indeed the road I will take. It is a course of action which I will ponder in the coming game weeks. Form will of course play a major role in my upcoming transfers.

But the fact of the matter is, Rooney is bound to score goals. He forms the crux of a title-chasing Manchester United attack with an incredible run of fixtures. To overlook him and view him a punt is somewhat daft.

          I got RvP at 11.9.
          It would be .7 loss

I also loathe Adebayor as a player. I am a Tottenham fan, and week in week out I watch him miss chance after chance.

Arsenals fixtures are probably better than Adebayors in that period, thus I will keep Robin over Emmanuel.

I was actually hoping he wasn’t Garg! A rival has him plus Huth in his back line at present.. Like someone else I see!! I guess if you had him then ‘no new is good news’ so you would imagine he’d be OK.

Cheers for the post. Some serious progress over the last few weeks Garg, this must please you no end! All the cool kids got 87 last week too 🙂

Hah. Yeah the big masterplan of 3 defensive Stoke and 2 Fulham hasn't really worked out this far . Conceded in 3 games out of 3 since I bought them, but the Huth red might have been a blessing in disguise as I'll have to sell him now and be down to 2 Stokers.

I'm very pleased with how my season is going after that incredibly lousy start. I'm still not perfectly sure if I was just awful or if I were unlucky. Bit of both probably.

Still not up at your hights, and can't slip up too much more this season if I want to salvage a top 10k finish.

          Got any funky transfers planned?

It’s good to try something different, the three Stokers may not have worked out but now you get a chance to modify a bit. My WC week was a nightmare results wise – I also got in on the Stoke act as I plumped for Shotton as I had 4.1 left. He hasn’t worked either.

The WC week was a disaster, the DVD captain shout I thought was a maverick call – It bit me on the arse with him limping out and Bale going nuts.

I’d say it was a bit of bad luck on your part to be honest, I had one season like that where everything I tried didn’t seem to come off. Whenever I took a forward leap the next two weeks were steps back. At least by having a bad start it gives you a chance to climb and get all of those green arrows! I don’t think you are too far from the top 10k though – Can’t be too many points to claw back. You may not claw much back the next few weeks as most teams are similar but I’m waiting for that gameweek 28 switch where you have great fixtures for United and a double coming up. People will have to switch up their atracking options so should be interesting.

As for this week, I’m still mulling it over. Could go boring and get rid of Shotton for Evans (he’d be benched the next couple of weeks but fits in nicely when I need him). However, I have been tempted by Ade out for Rooney but not so sure as would need to get Ba next week as I don’t think he can be ignored. In a strange way I’m leaning towards the former as Ade is just as much a differential this week as he has been shipped by many. A pain he will drop before the deadline but that’s the way it’s gonna be. What do ya think? Who are you getting in for Huth? Have Granny in the H2H top two battle so he is probably taking notes!

I'm playing him yeah, mainly because I am not taking a hit to get rid and I don't expect much from Kelly or Enrique.
I want Evans, Cahill and Dawson in for Vermaelen, Caulker and Kelly but the latter 2 aren't nailed on at the moment. A backline of Evans/Enrique/Richards/Dawson/Cahill gives me at least 3 good fixtures each week until GW38..

When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But standing here among the people of Punxsutawney and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn't imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter.

not saying that its wrong, but its far too easy to forget that Form doesn't care who he's playing

after all, our evaluation of fixtures are informed by the past, which means that "good fixtures" never can be anything else than a prediction. and the further ahead we see, the more uncertain the value we put on the fixture "becomes"

        just phiololsofizering

Actually, we are only looking a few weeks ahead.

And the fact of the matter is, teams in the top 6 MAY have blips along the way but will generally remain strong throughout the season, no matter their opposition. If you see games like MU vs WBA, MU vs Wolves, all in succession: it is a strong run of fixtures and it would be foolish not to consider, or plan, to get players of these clubs.

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

Pfizer Corp is making the announcement today that VIAGRA will soon be available in liquid form and will be marketed by Pepsi Cola as a power beverage suitable for use "as is", or as a mixer.

Pepsi's proposed ad campaign claims: "It will now be possible for a man to literally pour himself a stiff one." Obviously we can no longer call this a "soft drink".
This additive gives new meaning to the names of cocktails, highballs and just a good old fashioned stiff drink.

Pepsi will market the new concoction by the name of "Mount And Do".

According to the Met Office the only warnings out are for today and tomorrow. Saturday most areas are supposed to be about 5-6 degrees.

This for the warning from 4pm today until midnight tomorrow:
An area of snow is expected to develop over east and northeast England later on Thursday, and then during Friday this will extend steadily southwestwards into central and some southwestern parts of England, as well as the east of Wales. Whilst there is uncertainty regarding where the heaviest and most persistent snow will fall, accumulations of up to about 10cm are possible in the worst affected regions. The public should be aware that, as a result, there could be some disruption to travel.

My captains pick will be Dzeko!
He has got most of his big scores away whereas Aguero struggles. Surely City will hammer Aston Villa.

Well it could be worth a punt BUT when u weigh up dzeko v RVP as captain option with away games surely it has to be RVP.. Even if he has a quiet poor game he can nick a penalty or free kick etc or prob an assist! Arsenal just need to score --
Dzeko s odds of doing well even with a 3-0 victory etc aren't as high!!

So it's ok to consider but doesn't make the greatest sense! It's very hard to back against RVP at the moment no matter where or who he plays!!

Nope I think it makes perfect sense to have that option in mind and leave enough change, Rooney's so streaky it'll probably end up being a late call on the basis of what sort of nick he's in, but I reckon it would be foolish to leave yourself needing hits to do it.

    Hi all

    Mulling over various captain options.

    1. RVP - will have had a weeks rest. But away to Sunderland will not be easy.
    2. McClean/Sessegnon - Sounded like a tough game yesterday, will they have the legs for it?
    2. Dzeko - away to Villa. On paper it strikes of rich potential. No 'mad Mario' to muddy the selection waters for Mancini.
    3. Dempsey - Stoke rugby club at home without Huth. OOP player, tempting.
    4. Bale - Newcastle at home, a tough defence to break down. Will the talk of Redkanpp for England affect him & Sp*rs? Maybe.

At the moment I'm edging towards Dempsey then Dzeko. A slightly safe choice you might say.

        1. Enough to have him but I don't wanna captain him.
        2. Will probably both play...it's a big game...
        3. Not worth the risk imo, but the history of this season dictates that he's more likely to score than Aguero.
        4. Oh Captain my Captain!
        5. Bale a viable captain choice, choosing Dempsey out of pure hope tbh.

Perhaps he needs to drink this:

        John Corn
        06-02-02, 07:34 AM
Pfizer Corp is making the announcement today that VIAGRA will soon be available in liquid form and will be marketed by Pepsi Cola as a power beverage suitable for use "as is", or as a mixer.

Pepsi's proposed ad campaign claims: "It will now be possible for a man to literally pour himself a stiff one." Obviously we can no longer call this a "soft drink".
This additive gives new meaning to the names of cocktails, highballs and just a good old fashioned stiff drink.

Pepsi will market the new concoction by the name of "Mount And Do".

(WBA, wol, FUL, bla, QPR, wig, AVL, EVE) gws 28-35 for Utd.

i currently have no utd attack

Whatever. I will just be CRAZY and bring in Rooney, Friedel and Hibbert anyway.

I've earmarked Rooney for gwk 28....but have got my beady eyes on Hernandez. I can see less rotation, he's cheaper and is a goal machine when given time. Luckily I've got a couple of gameweeks to assess his potential further, but Hernandez could be a great pick from gwk 28.

would love to see him hit form leading into that gw and give me the confidence he will start week in-week out for a stretch but i just dont think i want to take that risk. i dont understand how im supposed to only follow form when i look at that run of united fixtures when united have players moving in and out of their XI on the regular. Right now if i wanted united, apparently im ONLY allowed to consider Valencia. Seems odd to me. what if i dont want to drop one of my mids?

For the first time ever I havent got a clue what to do with 2FT, having nothing in the bank probably isnt helping. Would love some feedback on what people think I should do going forward in preparation for the GW28 change in fixtures. My only concern is Lindegaard which isnt urgent, but Im fairly happy with the rest of my team. I can only see potentialy downgrading BAE or Valencia to free up funds in order to do a double transfer next week with the funds. Thanks for any advice.

Which 3 would you rather have for the final straight of the season (say 10-11 GWs)...

    A: Silva, Valencia, Aguero
    B: Silva, Mata, Rooney

I'm playing with the thought of shipping Valencia out for Mata, but then bringing Rooney in for Aguero (after GW27). It'll mean I have some threat in the Chelsea side (they do have a decent overall end to the season) and Rooney who both look nailed on (the likes of Valencia, Nani and Young aren't).

I'll also have Silva for City's attacking threat.
