Watchlist

The Watchlist – Adel Taarabt

The enigmatic architect of QPR’s euphoric promotion campaign, Adel Taarabt’s haul of 19 goals and 16 assists last season marked him out as the prime Fantasy Premier League (FPL) target from this term’s graduate teams. Undoubtedly skilful, the reproaches of selfishness and defensive negligence torpedoed his two top-flight seasons with Spurs but, with a starting berth for the Hoops seemingly assured, many backed the Moroccan magician to silence the doubters and light up the league.

Though initially priced at a thought-provoking 6.5, a lacklustre start to the campaign saw Taarabt’s investors running for cover long before his transportthemed fall from grace under Neil Warnock hit the back pages. Banished to the bench in November and assuming the role of bit-part player under the old regime, the Moroccan –with no goals or assists to his name- has even made Victor Moses seem particularly prolific this term.

Returning from the African Cup of Nations last weekend, Taarabt was immediately installed to the first-team by Mark Hughes. Partnering Shaun Wright-Phillips on the flanks against Wolves in an aggressive 4-4-2, he emerged with great credit from a threatening display by a ten-man QPR. His new manager was clearly delighted with the Moroccan’s contribution and, having pulled Taarabt out of his hat, Hughes appears little inclined to employ him as a bench-warmer over a run of games (bla FUL EVE bol) that should provide ample opportunity for attacking returns.

New acquisitions Bobby Zamora and Djibril Cisse have already made their mark in a QPR side that suffered earlier in the season from a glut of creators and a dearth of reliable finishers, and Taarabt looks set to benefit from having a more clinical outlet for his technical wizardry. With his price down to 5.8, Taarabt is now in direct competition with Joey Barton (5.8) and Shaun Wright-Phillips (5.9) for those looking to invest in QPR’s midfield over this favourable run.

Barton’s holding role may put him at a disadvantage from an FPL perspective in a setup that promises attack from the flanks, and with Taarabt presumably restored to direct free kicks, Barton’s potential looks more limited under the new regime. With two assists in his last four games, Wright-Phillips is doing his best to dispel his customary aura of frenetic impotence, but whilst Taarabt never looks far away from conjuring up a piece of magic, Wright-Phillips never looks far away from falling over his own feet.

With the wildcard window a homogenising influence on our squads, picking the right differentials has never been more important, and, with just 3% ownership, the new dawn at Loftus Road may well prove beneficial for this summer’s forgotten FPL favourite.

stilicho I never make predictions and I never will

McLean definitely has the form but you have to factor in they are playing a fresh Arsenal who will have a lot of confidence after a 7-1 win. Also McLean played 120 minutes today with only 2 days rest whilst Moses is playing Bolton in what I predict to be a very high scoring fixture.

          Bale, Valencia, Dempsey, Silva, (McClean)
          Ba, RVP, Adebayor

1.1m in bank and 1 FT

Due to Huth's dismissal i'll be forced to play him or Santon away to Spurs. Thought Enrique may have the better chance at attacking points. Alternatively i can transfer Huth but that will leave me without Dempsey who I planned to bring in.

By rarely, you mean 11 of 23 games this year?

I'm sorry, I guess I just don't understand why Bale (c) is a good idea when Spurs just came off an awful offensive performance, and will probably be without VDV, Lennon, and Defoe this week, against a defense that is, at the very least, better than most when Adebayor is playing his very worst football right now.

Cheers for the replies lads. I wasn't really considering getting in Ba for the next GW but at his price he does look very tempting. If I wait I will probably end up paying 8.0+ for him.

Think I will stick with my big hitter front 3 in the hope that come the end of the season they will be the top scoring threesome.

On another note, does anyone here not have Dempsey in their team and are rather worried by that? Think he will have a good game vs Stoke.

Not in a one for one situation I wouldn't, I'd prefer the three you have then
But if you see that you need the money somewhere else (city defender, on form mid etc) then Aguero to Ba would be my transfer to free up the funds.
RVP has to be kept for obvious reasons and Rooney usually delivers when things tighten up in the last 10 games. Happily this coincides with united fixtures getting easier and they have on paper the easiest run in.

I’ve never really understood the whole fuss about the England job/team.

You only get to watch them play genuinely important matches every 2 years.

The quality of football is below top Premiership standards.

    They’re all a bunch of d*ckheads.

The travelling fans give the rest of us a reputation of mindless, violent thugs.

We’ve had to suffer nigh on ten years debating whether Frank and Steve can play together.

And I can’t bring myself to cheer on Cashley, Terry, or half the rest of them.

Capello was right to jump ship – I never understood why he took the job (money aside) in any case. It’s the ultimate poisoned chalice.

England, oh my. Possibly the worst managing position in the world, now. Harry would be a fool to take it - and I think the FA would be fools to offer it to him, as well - but surely the cash will convince him to jump aboard.

And we'll eventually hear of how Capello actually left - the payoff to avoid a constructive dismissal suit.

      Oh my.

It's not often I come to the site to ask for popular opinion, preferring to make my own decisions most of the time. After all, it's me playing my game, not the whole FFS community every single week.

Nonetheless, would like to know the popular opinion for GW25 - If you've got the following, who do you bench?

Silva Bale Dempsey Sess Sigg RVP Aguero Ba

Leaning towards Ba or Aguero myself, cause of away games against Spurs (great defence) and poor away record for Kun. But I'd hate to bench both expensive and excellent players. Thoughts please?

Italians haven't been brainwashed into swallowing all this pc anti-racism shite like so many of us here in the north have, they still believe in calling a spade a spade. So Capello must have thought he was working in a madhouse after the way Terry was scapegoated and arrested for allegedly saying a few words on a football pitch.

His position became untenable when Bernstein of the laughable Football Association sacked Terry as captain without even consulting Cappello who's supposed to be the manager.
Capello then did the decent thing by telling the FA to stuff it.

The upshot is that an alliance of Bernstein, a lynch mob of third-rate black players, and the English media (dominated by the leftist NUJ) have screwed up what little chance England had in the Euros in June and have also made England even more of a laughing stock across the world.

Capello's position became untenable due to the FA's cowardly and calculated dismissal of that scrote JT. Capello did the 'right' thing by jamming it to them. This whole mess will further contribute, imo, to a complete breakdown by/distraction to the England camp ... thus further making England a laughingstock.

Everything else is the raving of an imbecilic, xenophobic bigot.

Won't argue there, HH ... but at least that was *his* decision. And, in fairness, though Terry deserves a bronze statue of scumbaggery to be erected in his honor, he is/was the best Captain candidate at the time.

Seems to me that either Terry was Cap't. or he had to be cut out altogether.

It's way too early to be worried about having to take punts.

You mentioned earlier that you bought him at 5.5. Since he is now valued at 6.0, it means you sell him for 5.7

Yo Aguero, i just read your comments on Capello, gotta disagree with you. He is the manager of a team and they made an executive decision to impact that team w/o consulting him, completely undermining his role. He had to walk to keep his dignity.and to be honest i think they knew and wanted him to do just that. How would it have looked if he had stayed? No Chairman in their right mind would take him seriously ever again, he would end up like Sven.
Best a luck to him, Hope they live to regret it 😉

Hey Shlaps. Nice week for you, well done. What you say makes sense. I hadn't considered that they would actually want him to leave at this juncture.

I think they used the whole thing to push him, no sack = no compo.
Harry innocent of tax fraud = Legitimate England Gaffer although i reckon he will only take them for the Euro's, he loves his Spurs job way too much to be faffing about with the England job.
All good on the fantasy front , GYLFI and OX on the Xmas card list!

I don't rate Bos, but it seems AVB does so i think he's going to start most weeks - but then the Chelsea defense hardly inspires confidence at the moment so i'd look elsewhere....

Looking to take out Valencia for Sigurdsson this gw, thought I'm not sure how wise that is with United playing Norwich away gw after? - do people think they'll run riot and stick 4, 5 past Ruddy? worried Valencia will score well (main rival still has him)

can see that game being either really tight 0-1 or something stupid like 1-5

    Anyone?

U could have Nani / Young / Cleverly options at that stage, Go GYLFI!

They might well run riot, but Valencia may not be involved in the points. Too many options now that Nani and Young are fit.

That's certainly not at all true anymore. Norwich has two cleanies in their last three. Swans have one in their last eight and are scoring much more.

Yeh think I will go for the FFS sweetheart Sig, the whole getting moved to rb threat and other returning makes it worth it, also allows me to free up funds. could always bring Valencia back in GW28 anyway.

          Thanks guys.
