The Scout Head to Head Leagues 2011/12

ENTRY HAS NOW CLOSED AND THE DRAW HAS BEEN MADE

On Wednesday night the doors were kicked open. After days of speculation, frustration and some unlikely conspiracies, the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) launched a new site, new rules and a new start to our Fantasy seasons.

The player list tinkering is now taking place in earnest as the ardent Fantasy Managers look to steal a march on the casual brigade. Leagues are already in place – sign-up’s underway.

The “classic” Fantasy Football Scout League is already available via this code (code: 490-626). Now, though it’s time to take on the behemoth that is now our ten (the impending Reserve League included) Head to Head leagues…

Those of you that were involved in our Head to Head leagues last year should, all being well, have already received the code to your new division for next season (if not, details follow later on how to rectify this – there are deadlines so don’t delay) not long after the game went live, so now it’s down to enticing new entrants.

Last year we ran seven (twenty man) Head to Head leagues. This season we are going to add another two onto the pile leaving us with nine of these in total as we continue to grow and grow – this opens up 38 more places (alongside 6 spaces already confirmed to be filled in Head to Head 7) for our community to snap up. If you want to try and squeeze into FFS H2H 8 (with Fantasy Football Scout business brain Chris, or “elfozzie” to you) or FFS H2H 9 (with myself, sorry folks!) be sure to follow the upcoming instructions…

Please email me at andy@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk with the heading “FFS Head to Head: New Entry” with these very specific details as entry:

  1. Fantasy Football Scout User Name (nickname used to post comments with)
  2. Full name
  3. Link to your Fantasy Premier League team or ID number

Make sure you provide the correct link. This can be found by clicking ‘History’ under your kit on your team page. It should be of the form ‘http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/X/history/’ (where X is your unique 1 to 7 digit team ID number – for example, mine is 89). N.b. links are represented differently than in past years so don’t get caught out.

If you fail to provide all of these details or enter by the closing date below, then your entry will become invalid so make sure to check everything is correct.

Deadlines are going to be tighter this year, so you’ll need to be quick as entry for these closes just a couple of weeks away at midnight (GMT) on Friday July 29 – a week today. All valid entries will then be put into a (hypothetical) pot, with 44 drawn at random and assigned to a league based on their final ranking from last season.

If, by the time deadline for entry closes, there are also any unclaimed spots in the pre-determined seven Head to Head leagues above, then places will also be up for grabs and added into the mix for new applicants to potentially sneak their way in; a “golden ticket” up the newly formed league structure all the way to FFS H2H 1 could also be on the cards if you’re lucky and did well enough last season.

This is where the qualifiers for the aforementioned seven leagues get their instructions if they need them. If you haven’t yet received an email with your new league code then please get in touch with me using exactly the same instructions as for new applicants but header your email with “FFS Head to Head: League Code” instead, and ask for your code. All of those who qualified by finishing in the top 28 places in the Reserve League last year, for example, will need to email me as I don’t have any of your contact details on record – the onus is upon you to claim what is yours in the next week. Be fast to make sure you don’t miss out on what you earned last year.

Finally, for those already qualified, you’ll also need to make sure your team is registered under the same email as last season as I will be checking the 2010/11 scores to verify your entries.

The process of promotion and relegation from these leagues are perhaps best left to be show in image form one more time so as my garble doesn’t confuse anyone. If you have any queries then don’t hesitate to comment (I’ll do my best to respond quickly), email (be aware I expect to be inundated with these) or tweet (perhaps most likely for me to see) in my direction and I’ll do my best to get back to you. The picture representation once again is…

There you go – that’s more than enough to take in for now. Don’t forget to get your emails in before the H2H league deadline – next Friday.

Sorry guys, but I'm gonna have to ask you to rate my team. I know there are a few controvertial places, but let's see if anything important comes out of this.

    Given, Begovic
Baines, Riise, A. Cole, Luiz, Kompany
    Sinclair, Barton, N'zog, Jarvis, Osman
    Bent, Zamora, Ba

Not elated with the midfield, but happy with the rest of it. I seem to remember that Goalkeeper-wise, villa and Stoke rotate well.

I quite like it for a change. Big cheese defence and effective attack. I did one with just 4.0m defenders so I could squeeze in 6 big names VDV, SIlva, Walcott, Malouda, Rooney, Carrol with Ba up front too. Looked great apart from the leaky defence which in fairness you could rotate around fixtures.

Too heavy in def imo Soop. Luiz may not start, I would downgrade him and upgrade your mf. Forwards should do well even without any of the heavyweights. 🙂

Thanks guys. Point taken about Luiz, we'll have to see what happens pre-season with him, but I could downgrade him all the way to 4.0, have an extra 2.5. That could see VdV replacing Osman.

Soop - what you going to do come gw 2 + 3 for chelsea attacking cover?

If you go with that team you can't bring Lamps/Malouda/Torres without major reshuffling and hits.

i like the rest of your team but to me your limiting your captaincy choices by putting all your money in defence...

think you should consider downgrading one of the defenders and upgrading one of the mids to a possible capt. poss silva

IF you decide you need a Rooney/RVP/Torres/Lamps then you are buggered!
You need more balance, too much money in defence imo
It pays to have 1 big hitter in each position imo, as it helps with player movement

Definitely a good point with the big hitters in each position. I was really tempted to stick Torres in at the start.

So tempted, I may buy the times just for that Torres article.

Jeez! That defence is MASSIVE, Soop! I'd definitely downgrade two of those heavily and use the funds to bolster the midfield.

Personally, I'd downgrade Begovic to a £4-4.5M who plays. I'm just going to play Given every game I think.

Bent is a little too pricey imo (but should score decently though), but the other two look good value to me.

This has probably been asked before, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer .. the problem is thus:

I currently have Given, Warnock, Zog & Bent ....

The guidance on the website is:

Q: What happens if a player is transferred to another Barclays Premier League team?
A: If a player is transferred to another team in the Barclays Premier League, and this transfer takes you over the 3 players per team limit, then you will need to go back under the limit when making your next transfers.

So when Given gets updated to a Villa player and assuming Zog leaves for Villa before the season starts, will I have to make that transfer?

Basically you'll have four villa players but the next time you want to do a transfer you will be forced to remove one of those players. In theory you could spend the entire season doing no transfers with four villa players.. but obviously in reality that won't happen

Only if you make a transfer. You can leave it as long as you amke no changes, but if you wish to amke a sub, it has to be a Villa out first

I think i've got a decent, well balanced team here:

    Given Kenny
    Kompany Hughes Bramble Simpson Givet
    Malouda Nani Walcott Sessegnon Buzsaky
    Suarez Bent Rodellega

Alternatively, i could downgrade Kenny to a 4.0 and upgrade Walcott to Silva or Nasri. Or upgrade Givet or Hughes.

like it, not sold on yaya or pennant though, especially as stokes fixtures arent that great at the beginning... nobody knows if suarez is going to play straight of the back of the copa either so think about replacing him? defence is a lil bit risky with rafael and gibbs both in there, you could easily get gameweeks where neither of them start and thats not what you need in your defence

Am i misreading this: "Any transfer point deductions in the Gameweek before a phase starts won't be deducted from the phase score. For example, any transfers made in Gameweek 3 (preparing for Gameweek 4) won't be deducted from your September score."

Does this mean we can change our team before each "phase" and not get deducted points? Or you just lose the points from Gameweek 3 but it doesn't affect Gameweek 4?

Its always like that. For your overall score points are deducted but for monthly prize no.

Walk I'm having the same thoughts

I've gone for Rooney over RVP because I can't figure out who'll play in Utd's mid. Chosen Arseshave as my mid, don't expect nani to stay and still don't rate wallcot

Yeah its a tough one as feel like I need Ars and ManU coverage.

Would stay clear of Arsha though mate, don't even think he'll start with Gervinho arriving and his poor form.

I've only got £98.0m team value.....selecting new players or auto-completing them doesn't give me back my value hah. Other people have had this problem on the forums and i'm wondering whether there is a solution !!

Why are so many of you reluctant on including VDV in your teams?
Surely he's better than Malouda, Silva, Yaya? No?

Just putting my team together now.

Keane is a steal at 5m as long as he leaves Spurs and goes Blackburn/Villa - someone like that! Thinking of taking a punt on Grant Holt too...

    Hart (Schwarzer)

    Kompany, Luiz, Gibbs (Brown) (Simpson)

    Murphy, Wilshere, Downing, Modric, (Ferguson)

Van Persie C, Zamora, Suarez V

Too many Fulham? Is Modric worth sticking with?

A couple of points - 10 H2H leagues is just too many. They begin to lose their value when theres so many and so easy to get into. It will get to the point where you say "I wonder whos top of H2H 8 at the moment......oh wait, who cares!"

Secondly, RMT posts already? Just... LOL.

It includes more people which can only be good. I don't see the problem - the English league pyramid has 10 tiers after all.

H2h's irrelevant anyway - i won the H2H League 2 last year but it didn't register on my emotional radar.. nice idea in practice, in reality its uncontrollable

Maybe a few more regular updates and league reviews on the site would help with holding players attention more when it comes to H2Hs.

can i ask what peoples general opinions are on their defnce?
I've been looking and if i wanted decent returns week in week out then having a player from Eve, Liv, Ars, Mcy, and Tot would allow at least 2 of those playing at home every week.
I'm thinking a combo of New/Sun for the keepers now or maybe Nor/Bla

I'm not a fan of GK rotation

      Doesn't seem to work?

Go with 1 GK who'll get the points and stick with 😉

      (Have a playing reserve though)

Agree. Remember loads of talk last season about rotation and the GKs under scrutiny were leaking goals left, right and centre. I stuck with Foster and a cheapie sub and invested the rest into outfield players. Given and Ruddy for me.

Ummm I might just go Robinson and ruddy, rotate and a cheapie in their too. Robinson will always get save points and the odd assist as well as clean sheets

FPL towers should create something that's the equivalent of a chastity belt for fantasy so we all stop tinkering our teams.
