The Scout Head to Head Leagues 2011/12

ENTRY HAS NOW CLOSED AND THE DRAW HAS BEEN MADE

On Wednesday night the doors were kicked open. After days of speculation, frustration and some unlikely conspiracies, the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) launched a new site, new rules and a new start to our Fantasy seasons.

The player list tinkering is now taking place in earnest as the ardent Fantasy Managers look to steal a march on the casual brigade. Leagues are already in place – sign-up’s underway.

The “classic” Fantasy Football Scout League is already available via this code (code: 490-626). Now, though it’s time to take on the behemoth that is now our ten (the impending Reserve League included) Head to Head leagues…

Those of you that were involved in our Head to Head leagues last year should, all being well, have already received the code to your new division for next season (if not, details follow later on how to rectify this – there are deadlines so don’t delay) not long after the game went live, so now it’s down to enticing new entrants.

Last year we ran seven (twenty man) Head to Head leagues. This season we are going to add another two onto the pile leaving us with nine of these in total as we continue to grow and grow – this opens up 38 more places (alongside 6 spaces already confirmed to be filled in Head to Head 7) for our community to snap up. If you want to try and squeeze into FFS H2H 8 (with Fantasy Football Scout business brain Chris, or “elfozzie” to you) or FFS H2H 9 (with myself, sorry folks!) be sure to follow the upcoming instructions…

Please email me at andy@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk with the heading “FFS Head to Head: New Entry” with these very specific details as entry:

  1. Fantasy Football Scout User Name (nickname used to post comments with)
  2. Full name
  3. Link to your Fantasy Premier League team or ID number

Make sure you provide the correct link. This can be found by clicking ‘History’ under your kit on your team page. It should be of the form ‘http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/X/history/’ (where X is your unique 1 to 7 digit team ID number – for example, mine is 89). N.b. links are represented differently than in past years so don’t get caught out.

If you fail to provide all of these details or enter by the closing date below, then your entry will become invalid so make sure to check everything is correct.

Deadlines are going to be tighter this year, so you’ll need to be quick as entry for these closes just a couple of weeks away at midnight (GMT) on Friday July 29 – a week today. All valid entries will then be put into a (hypothetical) pot, with 44 drawn at random and assigned to a league based on their final ranking from last season.

If, by the time deadline for entry closes, there are also any unclaimed spots in the pre-determined seven Head to Head leagues above, then places will also be up for grabs and added into the mix for new applicants to potentially sneak their way in; a “golden ticket” up the newly formed league structure all the way to FFS H2H 1 could also be on the cards if you’re lucky and did well enough last season.

This is where the qualifiers for the aforementioned seven leagues get their instructions if they need them. If you haven’t yet received an email with your new league code then please get in touch with me using exactly the same instructions as for new applicants but header your email with “FFS Head to Head: League Code” instead, and ask for your code. All of those who qualified by finishing in the top 28 places in the Reserve League last year, for example, will need to email me as I don’t have any of your contact details on record – the onus is upon you to claim what is yours in the next week. Be fast to make sure you don’t miss out on what you earned last year.

Finally, for those already qualified, you’ll also need to make sure your team is registered under the same email as last season as I will be checking the 2010/11 scores to verify your entries.

The process of promotion and relegation from these leagues are perhaps best left to be show in image form one more time so as my garble doesn’t confuse anyone. If you have any queries then don’t hesitate to comment (I’ll do my best to respond quickly), email (be aware I expect to be inundated with these) or tweet (perhaps most likely for me to see) in my direction and I’ll do my best to get back to you. The picture representation once again is…

There you go – that’s more than enough to take in for now. Don’t forget to get your emails in before the H2H league deadline – next Friday.

Do the keepers rotate well? Im not saying they dont, but Im sure theres a few big clashed throughout the season - worth checking.
I wouldnt go A Cole, but thats just me.
Really like the mid, forward line is good too, the dilemma is who the 6.5 striker should be for many - im going rodders and upgrading to odem GW3. A good start.

Appreciate the response - as far as I can see the keepers do rotate well throughout the season, but I could be wrong. I was wary of Cole, but from what I'm hearing he should be more involved attacking under AVB, and he's the most nailed-on of the Chelsea defenders.

Agree on the dilemma of the 6.5 striker - interested to see who people go for.

Yes, I like the idea of a strong point scoring def who plays all season, I just question where I would find the money elsewhere in my team.

Sylvain Distin - very high up the EA points system - worth a punt?

I've thought about him instead of Baines... If you can afford Baines then I would get him, but if not, Distin is a good differential.

At 5.5 he seems a resonable shout but as you say Baines is the big points scorer at a big price

Loads of RMTs going on! How about a few thoughts on the specific issue of nailed on starters:

Suarez first few weeks - seems opinion is divided?
Sessegnon - seems he may be a starter?
O'Shea - I though Brucie had made him captain?
Downing - again opinion seems divided but with Carroll up front for them....

    Thoughts?

Suarez - see my post below
Sessegnon - probably in my squad but someone made a good point about K. Richardson a few seasons ago having a great pre-season but terrible season.
O'Shea - Injured already and although might be captain might not be able to play! He rotates well with Simpson though who I and most will have.
Downing - Will need to look at pre-season but he's flexible where he can play and so should(?) play most games?

Re: Suarez - quite a few people are sdaying he'll have had three or so weeks off by the time the season comes round and with his track record of club play straight after international duty he'll be fine. Guess there's just no way of knowing till GW1!

How serious is O'Shea's injury? Haven't seen it in an article. I'll google it now...

He didn't have much game time before joining Liverpool either - so he could actually come straight in on form. It will be a good test of his temperament if they win, does he go crazy and disappear into America for a month.

That's a tricky one. Wouldn't like to pick really. But if you forced me I'd probably go for B. Nzog and Barton could be heavily involved in their respective teams' moves.

I asked this yesterday but didn't get any replies. Maybe it's too obvious a question but...

Why are the majority going for Suarez? He's had a busy summer and although 0.5m cheaper than Carroll is the difference that big?

My thought is that with so many midfield options putting balls in the box, especially now Downing is there and might play most games, won't Carroll be getting excellent service?

    Any thoughts?

And @IamMeireles I've replied to your post above^^^^^^^

It comes down to who you think will play in Midfield & up top for Liverpool. I think the below will start the seaon ... maybe Suarez plays 65 mins but I think that may be enough for him ... Suarez had a winter break remember so although he's been at Copa America, I think he'll still be starting:

      Adam / Lucas

      Gerrard Meireles/maxi

      Kuyt Suarez

      Carroll

100% agree. Suarez might be rested at the start of the season and nobody actually knows where he'd going to play anyway. At 0.5m cheaper its easy to downgrade, and I smell a price drop or two if he is benched for the first couple of games.

I personally think Suarez will be the better of the 2, although like you say he has had a busy summer.
I'm waiting tosee what Kenny does before picking out of suarez and Carroll, really depends on how the midfield will be set up the majority of the time.

as for your reply to mine, do you not think Lucas may attract more bonus due to his excellent defensive work in midfield?

I guess with the points for passes etc maybe but in the past defensive midfielders never get anything. I guess we might have to see when the season starts.

Also, might there not be better options at worse teams for the price?

I am personally just monitoring the lpool situation. Not even till into the season, just seeing how the friendlies go first. There is a lot of uncertainty about who will play at the mo, but on paper carroll looks like having a great season. A lot going for Suarez on here. Out of the three I honestly prefer Bent, doesnt have that level of competition and consistent.

Hopefully man. Whatcha reckon's gonna happen at LB. I know it's not the best option to have GJ playing there but if we bring someone in then that just limits the chances of Kelly and, really limits the chances of Flanno, getting games at RB as surely GJ will just switch to there.

I don't know, i think we might wait it out for a LB if they can't see a viable option at the moment. I think Kelly nailed RB as his own KK had so much trust in him and threw him in at the deepend too! I have a feeling GJ may be used as winger if he doesn't play LB too.

    Anyone else concerned about Chelsea?

Trying to crowbar in Lampard or maybe take a punt on Malouda or Benayoun but not seeing much to give me any faith that their decent run of fixtures will result in nothing more than them winning 1 or 2 nil...

Obviously it's only pre-season and you have to take those games with a pinch of salt but they don't exactly look free-scoring...

To be honest there is not anyone that I really want from Chelsea, until we start knowing who is going to play. BUT, I would advise having at least one player, i've gone for Malouda, cheapish compared to Lampard. And a midfielder, where I'm struggling to fill the positions.

My gut is on Malouda because of an article on here a while back about the new manager and his way of playing and formations etc. It kind of said (though I am paraphrasing quite heavily) that the wings will be used very offensively and so Malouda and A.Cole will be much more attacking.

However their pre-season is hardly reflecting that so far.....

Just made the first draft of my team. A bit of a beginner so would appreciate any advice.

    Howard / Al Habsi
    Jagielka / Dunne/ Enrique / Bardsley / Alcaraz
    N'Zogbia / Vaughn / Lampard / Yaya / Tiote
    Suarez / Torres / Agbonlahor

    Thanks.

List of No's: (IMO of course)

      Howard - Spurs will score
      Jagielka - same reason
Dunne - Collins probably a better option nowadays
Tiote - Switch to Dyer imo...
      Agbonlahor - NO
      Torres - It's your funeral

Wow that's negative, meant in the best possible way!

Thanks, didn't expect much approval for Torres or Agbonlahor but I've always been too tempted by the gambles! You think first game justifies getting rid of Howard + Jag? Jagielka in there partly in the hope he gets the move to Arsenal.

I would scrap this team. I dont think it has good balance. Agbon is one of the worst selections ive seen so far, i wouldnt pick vaughan. 4/5 defenders can be better picked. Dont go with howard in nets.

    Given Kenny
    Luiz Kompany Hughes Simpson Alcaraz
    Malouda Silva Albrighton Sinclair Buzsaky
