Double Gameweek One Announced

While Fantasy managers prepare their squads for tomorrow evening’s Euro 2012 semi-final between Spain and Portugal, some domestic news of significant Fantasy interest broke earlier on this morning. Already, we have our first double Gameweek of the season to prepare for thanks to Chelsea’s UEFA Super Cup duties against Atletico Madrid.

The Blues have revealed that their home game against Reading, scheduled for Saturday September 1, has been moved to Wednesday August 22 and immediately hands both clubs a double in the first Gameweek of the upcoming 2012/13 campaign, with a blank Gameweek 3 to follow.

Already, this is huge news for Fantasy managers and will surely play a significant part in the structuring of plenty squads ahead of the kick-off on August 18. Robert Di Matteo’s side will now travel to Wigan before playing host to the Royals, while Brian McDermott’s promoted side also have a home game against Stoke to consider.

Chelsea, in particular, have the kindest opening schedule of arguably any side – selecting three of their players for those opening pair of games now seems a tactic that many will employ in order to ensure their Fantasy seasons get off to a successful start. The likes of Gary Cahill, Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and even Fernando Torres will likely see strong investment prior to the big kick-off on the back of today’s news.

For now, then, it’s just a quick heads-up article to bring you up to date – as always, we’ve updated the season ticker to reflect the change in fixtures.

    BBC:

Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger will be available to play in the Euro 2012 semi-final against Italy on Thursday.

The Bayern Munich player has recovered from an ankle injury, and Germany manager Joachim Loew said. "He is the team's emotional leader. We need him on the field."

OK, this is a game winner 😉

    ————–Casillas
    -Alba-Arbeloa-Pique-Ramos
    Busquets-Pirlo-Ozil-Khedeira
    -—Balotelli-Gomez/Klose (Oliveira)

    No FT left.

Spain win to nil, goals on both sides of the other game.

If Italy win, Ozil, Khedeira, Gomez, XXX -> Whover I want
If germany win, Balo, Pirlo, Pique, Ramos -> Whoever I want

I like the idea of a Spain heavy defense but maybe two or three defenders are just about enough.

The two drafts i have works out are like this

        Patricio
        Abate-Alba-Arbeloa-Boateng
        Khedira-Reus-Ozil-Busquets
        Gomez-Ronaldo-Balotelli
        The slightly safer option

        Patricio
        Arbeloa Boateng Hummels Alba
        Iniesta Busquets Ozil Reus
        Gomez Ronaldo Oliviera
Gambling on Italy not going through

I like the first one more but i am trying to work something out where both Gomez and Klose are in, but don’t want to compromise on Balo or Ronaldo. A good chance Balo will get more points than Ronaldo though.

I can't see a way for you to include Gomez and Klose, I think thats a crazy strategy, it's like just having one player for 90 mins, who cost 22.9. But I could be wrong, it might work!

I literally can't decide which team I like more. Either could so easily outscore the other.

Two drafts that worked out right now

            Patricio
            Alba Pique Lahm Balzaretti
            Khedira Busquets Xabi
            Klose Gomez CR7

xabi Lahm can also be fab hummels depeding on line up

            Draft No 2

            Patricio
            Alba Hummels Pique Balzaretti
            Marchisio Busquets xabi khedira
            Gomez Balo Klose

Draft no 2 looks pretty convincing to me

Anyone think that Klose's knowledge about unlocking Italian defences (albeit just one season in Lazio) could be a key factor in him starting ahead of Gomez???

He has a lot more going for him. When Italians lose the ball they swarm back to defence and get at least 10 behind the ball. Therefore they are weak to counter attacks. Muller, Klose and Ozil are the kings of counter attacking and that is why i think they'll all start.

England's counter attacks clearly opened up the Italians but England's lack of quality meant they came to nothing. Hodgsen had the right tactics but the players weren't quality enough to execute it. Germany have that quality, and should score a few.

    FFS Euro 2012 Quarter-Finals Round-Up

Indeed. In less than a week, we shall have crowned a European Champion. The whole continent shall bow down to the best managerial partnership. The fame and the bragging rights that come along with it shall be unparalleled in the community. The team shall have the privilege to hold onto the title for 2 whole years. Imagine the scenes!

But hey, we're not there yet....as the best of the action still remains. The twelve teams will tell you "As if we haven't had enough action already" As cliche it may sound, Gary Neville rightly said "The game isn't over until Schmeichel himself comes up for the corner" The. Very. Last. Minute.

Let's take a step back and bid farewell to the teams which fought their way valiantly to the Quarters:

    Collapse of the hosts
The QFs saw the disappointing exit of co-hosts, Poland & Ukraine. Large things were expected of both the Pot 1 teams and atleast one of them were favorites to go all the way. The home fans prodded their teams right till the very end, all in vain. There was heartbreak, for both the hosts missed out by the narrowest margin of 2 points. They will feel very harshly done by. However, big props to both these teams for a spirited performance and giving the neutrals a nail-biting contest.

    Story of the Recovered Balls
Where there was pain inflicted, there was celebration. The Poland-Germany clash was decided by an extra RB point gained by Germany's superhero, Barzagli over the period of extra time in the Ita-Eng game. Few miles away from Poland, a similar storyline was scripted. The Ukraine-Croatia clash was decided by Stevie G's uber-late extra point amassed from RBs. Who said this game is all about goals and assists? Two clashes were decided by the technically sound defensive displays of a defender and a holding midfielder.

    The Poles of Scandinavia
Coming into the quarter-finals, the Scandinavian countries of Denmark & Sweden boasted the highest points accumulated over the 3 Matchdays. It was always going to be a matter of time before the laws of average took its toll on one of them. Sweden fell victim to a mammoth performance by the Azzurris, who seem to be peaking at just the right time. However, there was continued joy for the other Scandinavian sister, Denmark. The Karma (Good deeds) accumulated over the course of the Cup seems to have played a pivotal role in buoying this team to a huge victory against the infamous Russians. Tough luck to Russia & Sweden this time around.

Battle of the Groups of Death
A few weeks back, the results of one of the polls conducted on the FFS UEFA website clearly revealed that Groups B & C were deemed to be close competitors for the "Groups of Death". Once again, the prediction of the well-educated football fans was bang-on. As we head into the Semi-finals, we have both the qualified teams of these groups. Who said this Cup is just about the clash of 2 v 2 managers? Come on Groups B & C, it's time to raise your voices of support for your big boys:

    1) Germany vs Croatia = Survival of the Jammiest
Had Darwin lived to see the FFS Euro 2012, he would have no qualms about renaming his theory to the "Survival of the Jammiest." That has been the levels of jamminess (new word defined as of now) displayed by heavyweights Germany. However, they will face the heat from only unbeaten team of the Cup, Croatia. However, both teams come into the semi's at the back of narrow escape in the QFs. Will the jamminess continue or will the heavyweights finally....finally impart their dominance?

    2) Denmark vs Italy = Karma Wars
Whilst Denmark brings a massive flavor of valour into the Cup with their daily features, Italy includes the very last Council member standing pivotal in presenting this Cup to all of you. Can Denmark defy the Law of Averages and turn into the biggest underdog story in the history of the Euro Cup? Or will Italy grow from strength-to-strength, with the patriotic manager Milanista steering his crew?

Only time will tell. Join in me wishing our final four warriors the very best in the semi's!

Ok so in a bid to defend my lead, this is the side I've come up with, providing that Torres is starting. Any input is most welcome and yes, I am petrified of Gomez/Klose.

    Patricio / (4.0m)

    Hummels / Alba / Arbeloa / Badstuber / Boateng

    Pirlo / Ozil / Khedira / Alonso / (4.0m)

    Torres / Ronaldo / (Oliveira)

I think its risky to have 3 German def's and only 2 Spanish, and if you are having 3 from Germany, aren't you limiting your points a bit by spending 8.1 on Pirlo?

Yeah you could see it as limitation but you could also see it as covering myself a little bit against what I expect teams below me to do.

I also expect Pirlo to get enough recovered balls for his inclusion to be worthy, 3 or 4 pts from a midfielder isn't a bad score to have.

To be honest, I think that the person that wins the whole thing, will do it be gambling on picking the two finalists. So the team above will give you a great chance of doing really well, and win your mini leagues, but I think if you want to go and win the bloody thing, i would consider taking the gomez/klose gamble instead of ronaldo. and maybe pirlo + alonso to busquets and iniesta. But only if you are going for numero uno in the world!!

Defenders are best players per million in this game so far i dont think you can go with less than 3 at the back.

But there aren't many good mid priced forwards or mids and Defenders can still bring good value with their recovered balls. I think Spain will earn a CS anyway 🙂

    Finally think I've cracked it

Buffon, Neuer (guaranteed a keeper for the final)

    Alba, Lahm, Pepe, Hummels

    Ozil, Khedira/Reus, Pirlo, Busquets

    Olivera, Cassano, CR7

So if Italy go out - 2 transfers needed, if Germany 4

If Portugal go out - 2 transfers needed, if Spain 2

Basically unless Germany feck up I will have enough transfers to get 11 out for the final with no hit. As I have worked out, unless you back 1 team more heavily you will not have enough transfers to get 11 out without a hit.

    Thus

my current 2 keepers are Neuer and Tzorvas. I have the money and spare FTs to upgrade Tzorvas. I can get any keeper, but if I go for one in the match and Germany lose and I've picked the losing keeper in the other match, I have to use a transfer or have no keeper. Although I'm backing Germany to reach the final, getting Buffon in covers me off in case they feck up.

Alright, like Hec087, I'm defending my lead in MLs (don't want to lose my money). I've posted drafts yesterday but this one is no different with the exception of Khedira. Let me know what you think.

    Patricio - (Tzorvas)
    Alba - Boateng - Coentrao - Abate - (Maniatis)
    Ozil - Khedira - Iniesta - Pirlo - (Darida)
    Ronaldo - Balotelli - Torres*

Torres spot is unconfirmed and may have to wait for lineup announcement to decide what's best.

    Neuer
Hummels / Jordi Alba / Arbeloa
    Khedira / Ozil / Schweinsteiger / Fabregas / Busquets
    Klose / Cassano

Got 4 none playing subs so it's do or die really. I have got the luxury of a wild card still up my sleeve so this team represents using up my free 8 transfers for this round.

Any feedback thoughts would be appreciated.

            Doubt it

Löw didn’t rule out changes for Italy because “Greece didn’t have the quality of the other teams” and that match required a special line-up. “Picking the same team that has always won isn’t a recipe for success. there can always be changes.”

Rest of the defence will be Barzagli, Bonucci/Chiellini and Balzaretti.

They used De Rossi in DF because Barzagli was injured. Now they can actually play 3 CBs properly (Barzagli, Bonucci and Chiellini) as well as the 2 WBs in Abate/Balzaretti.

Hmm IMO De Rossi has looked like their best defender when playing 3 at the back. Thought that Barzagli or Bonucci would drop out if all fit. Do you see them going that route, sitting back against the germans, I dont think it will work.

I genuinely have no clue if they will go 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 this time round. I do fancy them though (mainly due to man crushes on Buffon and Pirlo) and I think they could upset the Germans.

I strongly believe that German forward who starts will give the most points this round.
Mind you, this line up works only if Abate starts or else i can downgrade Moutinho to Veloso and get in Barzagli.

    Patricio
    Alba Arbeloa Hummels Boateng Abate
    Ozil Moutinhho Busquets
    Gomez Balo Klose

I have got that high scoring Ger-Ita game and the low scoring spain-portugal game covered

Also have 12 players so gives me an option on subbing Gomez or Klose whoever doesnt start depending on the points of the other players.

Does this make sense or have i lost it?

that actually makes sense, a lot of money wasted there dough. If the one that starts fails you will be fecked. For that reason I will risk just one and have a balanced team elsewhere.

I will get a one pointer somewhere in the first game. Hence i will have a German striker for 90 or maybe 120 minutes. You never know 😉

Well my opinion is just as good as yours. Im going with 2 german strikers who both may not start( in the case Torres sits) So I can be totally screwed.

Moutinho -> Marchisio perhaps? It's not a bad strategy really but you are screwed if Portugal qualify.

I did have Marchisio. This is just me speculating and wanting to know whether i am onto something here.

I was contemplating this approach but I think it's too much money wasted which could be upgraded elsewhere (e.g. having Fabregas for example if he starts or Ronaldo up front).

For the time being I've decided on either gambling on Klose or playing it safer and going with Muller instead.

Playing two costly strikers out of which only one would play is very risky but not stupid. If Ronaldo and Silva have quiet games, you would look like a genius because no matter which German player plays, he is likely to score big. Abate is injured and unlikely to start. The rest looks good.

I'm fairly certain Abate will be back for this game. They have no other alternative really and will make sure he's fit.

I think I've ballsed this up. I am defending 1st in my MLs and was a little drunk after the England game so flapped and made changes there and then thinking there would be price rises. I came up with this sorry lot:

    Rui Patricio (4m Safikas)

    Boateng, Abate, Alba, Arbeloa (Maniatis)

    Iniesta, Busquets, Khedira, Custudio, Marchisio

    Gomez, CR7, Cassano

And only left myself 3 subs and 0.3m. Obviously Custudio stinks. Any other ways out of this problem. Please help!!

we can think many things, reducing risk is not a bad strategy. Ronaldo can score a fk from half court, so nothing is quaranteed.
