Spot the Differential

Spot the Differential – Gameweek 38

One last throw of the dice. If desperate times call for desperate measures, then the “Differentials” offer a potential route to success. For the final time this season, we target two goalscorers in form, while our third contender looks set to lead the line in a must-win fixture that’s at the centre of Sunday’s one remaining issue.

Clint Dempsey

Tottenham’s American international will go into Sunday’s encounters with clear motivation and the incentive to seek out goals. Andre Villas-Boas’ outfit have to go for three points against Sunderland at the Lane to maintain their hope of edging Arsenal for the remaining Champions League spot.

Dempsey will surely retain a starting role having notched goal and assist returns in the vital win at the Britannia, with Villas-Boas singling him out for praise in his post-match comments.

While Gareth Bale is the obvious selection from the Spurs midfield and, along with Daniel Sturridge, the favourite for the Gameweek armband, Dempsey is a would-be replacement for those selling on the injured Eden Hazard, who are ready and willing to double up on a fully motivated Spurs outfit.

Gabby Agbonlahor

The Villa striker’s form has been nothing short of sensational in recent weeks, at times even overshadowing the contribution of the mighty Christian Benteke. The big Belgian is absent from Villa’s trip to the DW Stadium on Sunday through suspension, leaving Agbonlahor to carry the burden of grabbing the goals that will see Paul Lambert’s side end the season on a high.

Agbonlahor is more than capable: six goals in his last eight league starts have seen the fleet-heeled striker offer exceptional value for his 6.9 price tag. With the Latics defence struggling to plug the holes created by a raft of injuries, Agbonlahor will surely fancy his chances of adding to his tally, with Benteke owners perhaps considering a straight swap on the final day to capitalise on Wigan’s charitable back four.

Olivier Giroud

Back from a three-match ban following a rather harsh red card in the Gameweek 34 win over Fulham, Giroud is set to be thrown back into the mix at St James’ Park with Lukas Podolski likely to switch to the left-flank. Arsenal make the trip to the North-East needing three points to keep Spurs at bay as their North London rivals host Newcastle’s struggling neighbours, Sunderland.

Giroud has been a frustration this term, largely failing to fill the yawning void left by Robin Van Persie. He’s nonetheless sparked on occasions to feature as a cameo performer in our Fantasy seasons. He may yet be a factor on the final day.

At just 7.3 in the Fantasy Premier League game, Giroud is available in the mid-price and is set to lead from the front for a team that needs to fetch goals and with Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla providing a stream of ammunition. Once again, then, Giroud’s returns will come down to his ability to convert the opportunities that come his way with the Gunners surely set to go on the attack. As a side note, Newcastle have conceded nine goals in their last two matches in front of their own fans.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I think you would be numb, in shock and full of adrenaline at the same time. Fight or flight. Until you were in that situation you wouldn't know how you would react to it.

Some guys had the presence of mind and could think while everything was going on but there was so much luck involved whether you lived or died.

Okay guys, really need your advice. My rival makes shit loads of changes every week and has actually managed to catch me by doing so. He is 1 point ahead of me with this team.

He has made two changes this week costing him 4 points (so I am actually 3 ahead now).

    Reina
    Dawson, Baines, Sagna (Wilson, Demel)
    Santi, Mata, Hazard, Bale (Marveaux)
    RVP, Sturridge, Lambert

He made 1 transfer which meant he had about 3m in bank, leading me to think he dropped RVP, he then came back and made another, making me thing he then dropped hazard after it was confirmed he was out. But now has 0.1m in bank...

    My team

    Foster
    Azpilicueta, Vertonghen, Nastasic (Clyne, Jenkinson)
    Santi, Mata, Walcott, Bale, Oscar
    Aguero, Tevez (Le Fondre)

Aguero is nailed on to start I have convinced myself. Should I bring in Sturridge for Tevez and Reina for Foster?

    Many thanks

I have 19 points to claw back.

    Jaask
    Davies Baines Jones
    Bale Maloney Walcott Coutinho Lampard
    RVP Sturridge (C)
    Bego Lukaku MartinR Ridgewell

Already done 1 FT, got 0.2 in the bank.

    Baines > Zab
or Baines > Zab, Lamps > Nolan
or lower priced DEF, and bring in Carroll?

    Play Lamps over Lukaku?

He may have done rvp to aguero. For the 3mil in bank then Henderson to lampard? Using the three mil. Team is a bit random so keeps you guessing???

Who do you think will score the most points this week out of this bunch?
    A) Lampard vs Everton home
    B) Yaya Toure vs Norwich home
    C) Silva vs Norwich home
    D) Dempsey vs Sunderland home
    E) Dzeko vs Norwich home (rotation risk - Aguero's back in training...)
    F) Berbatov vs Swansea away
    G) Giroud vs Newcastle away (may not start)

      Fed and Sagna.

Wilson is a liability. Lucky if he plays more than 45 minutes atm.

    Views on this beastly team

    Lloris
    Zab Vertonghen Clyne
    Walcott Coutinho Nasri Dempsey (C)
    Sturridge (VC) Tevez RVP

Only reason Sturridge isn't vice is because main rival has him as captain and he's 20 points ahead

If you have to bench one, who would it be?
    A) Kone vs Aston Villa home
    B) Mata vs Everton home

I prefer Mata because Hazard's out, so I'm leaning towards benching Kone.

Need some help for this last week. Not even sure if I should make a transfer. Line up is:

    Hart
    Luiz, Jones, Zabaleta, Sagna
    Lampard, Bale, Walcott
Van Persie, Sturridge (C), Dzeko (VC)

    Subs: Maloney, Pearce, Marveaux

    Bank: 0.4

Any ideas. I think I might actually be good to go, which is a bit underwhelming for the last game of the year.

      Play Maloney over Sagna IMO.

I would prob transfer out Lampard for Michu?

Are you not worried about Dzeko not starting? I was considering bringing him in, but Aguero was back in training today apparently.
