Double Gameweek 1 Confirmed for Chelsea and Villa

The Premier League have this afternoon confirmed both Chelsea and Aston Villa will now start the season with a double Gameweek 1. With the Blues set to face Bayern Munich in the Uefa Super Cup Final on Friday August 30, their home game against Villa, which was initially scheduled for Saturday August 30, has now been shifted to Wednesday August 21.

This news is set to bring the Blues assets firmly onto our Fantasy radars, bearing in mind Jose Mourinho’s side also entertain Hull City on the opening weekend of the new season. Huge investment is now expected to come Chelsea’s way, though Fantasy managers will be mulling over a couple of recent Mourinho comments as they assess just who to splash their budgets on.

The Blues boss admitted Spain’s match in Ecuador, which takes place on August 14, may be a factor in his line-up for the Tigers fixture – something to consider when assessing the likes of Juan Mata, Cesar Azpilicueta and Fernando Torres for our starting XI:

“The players who go for their national teams two days before the opening of the Premier League, it depends a lot on that. Some have to go to Ecuador and come back and arrive in London on Saturday without having slept after a 15-hour flight to train on Saturday morning. If a player plays for England on Wednesday against Scotland, plays for 45 minutes at Wembley and then an hour after the game he is at home in Cobham sleeping, he is in a better condition to play. The team will be decided game after game and week after week. I will have to think about two or three matches at the same time.”

Only yesterday, Mourinho also revealed he will be a little more cautious with Frank Lampard’s game time this term. As mentioned in this morning’s Friendlies Round Up, the veteran midfielder is unlikely to one of the “untouchables” this time around as his manager looks to rest him more often.

The comments perhaps strengthen Eden Hazard’s prospects as the Belgian looks to replicate his start to the previous season, which produced double figures in both his double Gameweek 1 appearances. While loading up on Chelsea looks a viable tactic, a trip to United in Gameweek 2, followed by a blank fixture the following week, also has to be factored into the equation.

For Villa, though, the appeal of a double is significantly lessened, bearing in mind they travel to Arsenal prior to the Stamford Bridge showdown – those eyeing up Christian Benteke, for example, may be a little cautious given the fixtures, though the uncertainty surrounding the Chelsea forwards certainly indicates the Belgian looks the most nailed-on of any double Gameweek frontline option.

We’ll have more on the two sides in upcoming Scouting the Doubles articles – for now, though, this is just a heads-up.

    Evening guys,

Haven't been around much today, so not sure what people's thoughts have been re the DGW.

Think I'm going with just 2 Chelsea. What do you think?

    Cech
    Coleman - Koscielny - Burner
    Jarvis - Hazard (c) - Bale (v) - Mirallas
    Rodriguez - Aguero - Sturridge

    Boruc - Thomas - Murner - Chester

1m in the bank to downgrade Cech and upgrade Kun to RVP later on.

    Out of 10 guys?

    Mignolet // Davis

    Ivanovic // Mertesacker // Collins // Shaw // Chester

    Hazard // Coutnho // Bale // Morisson // Snoddy

    Lukaku // Giroud // JRod

The def is reasonably priced and fairly solid (Arsenal and Chelsea) I would keep my eye on Ivanovic. The mid imo is great. I really like Snoddy and Morisson I think they are great value.
The fwd could use some work. I like Lukaku though I'm not sure if he will get consistent starts. Giroud is having a solid pre-season but if Arsenal buy Suarez or any other forward you could see Giroud sitting on the bench more then playing. Jrod is good value and combined with Lambert should see a lot of assist and a nice total return.

Berbs, RVW, Benteke, and even Bony (after a couple of gwk) Are all well within your price range and should all start most games and produce solid returns.

I really feel the fwd group doesn't have a real power house which could be the teams downfall.

        What's your take ?

        Jaaskelainen/Boruc

        Turner/Coleman/Chester/Clyne/Baker

        Nolan/Hazard/Bale/Mata/Colback

        Aguero/Lambert/Anelka

With 0.5 in the bank to upgrade hazard to Cazorla.

Pretty new to this (but I am aware of the crazy scores Chelsea guys got last season on gw1) but would it perhaps be a mistake to just go with Cech and Haz and the dgwers? I'd still have Aguero, Wally, Bale and Mert. With all the friendlies and United away after before a blank, it makes me reluctant to pick a 3rd Chelsea player ([particularly offensive ones) as so many are speculative.

I will be going into the dwg with only Terry and Haz. There are to many "ifs" about who will play for chelsea and if some players will be rested. It could be a huge mistake. But by not having more then two Chelsea player I get to keep RVP and Bale in my lineup.

ESPN has Hazard listed among forwards rather than mids.

    With that in mind:

    A) Drop one of RvP/Giroud/Bony and add Hazard?

    B) Add Oscar, hope for the best?

    C) Some other strategy to take advantage of the DGW without breaking up a trio of strikers I'm happy with?

What does everyone think of my team?

    Mignolet (Davis)

    Ivanovic Mertesacker J.Collins (Clyne Parr)

    Hazard Bale Mirallas Snodgrass (Britton)

    Aguero Lukaku J.Rodriguez

Bit unsure of Aguero now due to City's recent striking arrivals, but am loathed to get rid as their opening fixtures look very profitable

I did consider Coleman, he was brilliant for me 2 seasons ago when he was listed as a defender but playing right midfield. Not too sure how Martinez will use him though, will he start right midfield in a 3-4-3? Got Mert in purely because Arsenal have decent fixtures, and his BPS score is very impressive (not to mention his attacking threat from corners)

Giaccherini is a differential pick, if you're feeling brave.

Hey all, is this a half decent idea.....?

Build a team with RVP, blah blah blah. Swap him out for Rooney, leave the budget alone. Let it sit. Wait for Rooney to be sent to Chelsea, or not (along with your 3 other DGW players) If Rooney doesn't switch allegiances, last minute ditch back to RVP.

So, if he does switch, you have 4 DGW chelsea players. If he doesnt, you can just dump him (or....honestly keep him?) for RVP.

    Any thoughts?

Hello lads, just got back home to news of a Chelsea DGW, here's how the new draft looks. Please comment -

    Mignolet (Lewis)

Ivanovic M. Turner J.Collins (Chester Parr)

    Hazard Bale Mirallas Walcott (Thomas)

    Sturridge Lukaku Van Wolf

    1) Is Lewis the best 4.0 mill goalie who is closest to starting?
    2) Is Mirallas nailed on (I assume he will play in the forward 3 if Martinez goes for 3-4-3)
    3) Does Van Wolf take penalties?

    Am still pondering,
    Mirallas ---> Snodgrass
Wolf ---> J Rod/Lambert (wait to see who plays ahead)
Sturridge ---> Aguero (since he takes penalties as well)

    Thoughts?

Stick with Mirallas - injuries kept him out most of last season, but he was solid value when he played, and even at 7.5 I reckon he's worth the extra million on Snodgrass.
If Norwich get another striker I'll be dropping Wolf. I recommend Lambert, he's more reliable than Rodriguez. But J-Rod's fine if the budget is tight.
Watch Sturridge's injury; and watch out for rotation of City forwards.

Hey guys I've just redrafted my team (again) and was hoping I could get some feedback/advice, would be very helpful and much appreciated. My current lineup is as follows:

    Cech (Davis)
    Nastasic Mertesacker Coleman (Chester, Turner)
Bale Hazard(C) Walcott Mirallas Jarvis(rotates with JRod)
    Giroud Kone (JRod)

Was thinking I can switch Cech for Mignolet in GW2 and bag the 1m then ugrade another part of my team, maybe 0.5 on switching Jarvis for morrison then Kone for Lambert/Berba

    A thought on Double Gameweeks:
While it is always fun to score a massive number of points in a single week, it is important to remember that every player plays the same number of games, and will therefore score no more points overall than he would without the DGW. The only advantage of a DGW is that it allows you to captain a different player in the blank, essentially giving you an extra captain for the blank week.
Therefore the only reason to shuffle a team around is to get the player MOST likely to score big in the two games so that you can benefit from the captaincy; otherwise any other non-captain player scores exactly the same, in the long term (3 gameweeks in this case) as non-DGW players.
There is no point, therefore, in tearing up a solid, fixture/form-based team in order to get as many DGW players in as possible. You only need one, who you then make your captain.

So in order of promise (IMO): Hazard, Benteke, Lampard, Lukaku with Ramirez, Oscar and Ba as differential options.
I'm going with Hazard. I almost took him out at the start of last season after his lacklustre performance in the Community Shield, but I stuck with him and received around 50 points for my perseverance 🙂

I get that logic, my point is that there is no need to waste an early wildcard repairing a solid team broken up by players who are only going to be good for a single gameweek. IMO.

Two free subs before gameweek 3, just put in two more chelsea/villa players than you normally would have and you can get rid of them by week 3 with your wildcard in tact.

I'd say Silva is likely to play most in the City midfield.
I'd say Aguero is the most likely in attack.

Pellegrini plays 4-2-2-2 and 4-2-3-1 as a rule (though tailors it for the opposition) so I would imagine Jovetic will play the most in the 4-2-3-1 on the left.
In the 4-2-2-2 Negredo & Dzeko will be in for one forward spot with Aguero & Jovetic in for the other FW position. I would imagine we'll see jovetic play in most games starting or as a sub though.

Personally I would find the 1.5m extra for Aguero.

Now with this new information Im thinking of going with

    Cech
    Bassong-Coleman-Rat
    Bale-Hazard-Snodgrass-Puncheon
    RvP-Anelka-Kone

    Subs: Boruc, Clyne, Parr, Koren

with 0.5m in bank, 1m if I choose to downgrade Koren to another budget midfielder (Suggestions?). Cech is sure to play full 90 in both chelsea opening games (right?) and I think Hazard has as good chance to get goals/assists as Mata does. Now is Puncheon a good choice for 5.5 midfielder for a couple of first rounds or is there someone you would rather get? I was thinking of Swansea's Routledge but they are facing ManUtd so I ditched the idea. Also I am very tempted to get Lukaku but im unsure how much he'll get to play. In the following round I could downgrade Cech back to Jääskeläinen for West Ham/Southampton rotation plan or just save the transfer if Cech does well. This would leave me with 1.5m-2m and two transfers in the bank for the third GW. Or then maybe i'll just switch Hazard for Walcott in GW2. I don't know lol, I know im overanalysing this but I enjoy doing it. If just I'd know who Mourinho will be starting in midfield & attack 😀
