- Champions league qualification
lost in last page ;(
Format changes
The UEFA Executive Committee held in May 2013 approved the following changes to the UEFA Champions League starting from the 2015–16 season (for the three-year cycle until the 2017–18 season)
The winners of the previous season's UEFA Europa League will qualify for the UEFA Champions League. They will enter at least the play-off round, and will enter the group stage if the berth reserved for the Champions League title holders is not used.
The previous limit of a maximum of four teams per association will be increased to five, meaning that if the Champions League title holders finish outside the top four of their domestic league (if the winner is from the one of the top three ranked associations), the fourth-placed team of their association will not be prevented from participating in the tournament.
it basically means.. if Man Utd won CL, 4th place arsenal/everton/spurs will still have the chance for a CL spot next season?Open ControlsIm still not a fan of this. 4 representatives from one country is too much as it is
Open ControlsI like it. means a team that qualified via the league doesn't get robbed if someone from their league happens to win the CL but finish outside the top 4.
Open ControlsIn principle its good but I dont think that any country should have more than 2 representatives in the CL. I guess im just old fashioned that way
Open Controlsif it was 1 then only half of the remaining teams would be allowed to compete this year. no RM, Chelsea, Dortmund, or Atletico
Open ControlsThat would be ideal!
Open Controlsyep
What is the point of "champions" league with only 30-40% of the teams being champion
That ratio should become 60-70Open Controls
The CL wouldn't be a good brand if that was the case. Surely its better to have the best teams in Europe represented. Obviously a balance is important and I think the CL has a good balance at the moment between having the best teams and allowing lesser teams from other countries to participate.
Open ControlsLesser teams will not be able to compete and become one of Europes elite if theyre not getting any money. The CL is set up to give money to money. We keep going on about how good these young Belgians are. Where are Anderlecht and Club Brugge?
Open Controlsjust because they're Belgian doesn't mean they have to play in Belgium!
how many players in the top EPL clubs are British? how many players on PSG are French? etc etcOpen ControlsObviously, but the majority came through younth systems in Belgium and didnt stay there because other European clubs offered them huge wages. If only one club from each country was in the CL do you think Lukaku would have left as early as he did?
Open Controls
The amount of teams per league can be reviewed every year. As far as I'm aware all european teams have a path to the CL.
Open ControlsOf course they do but the seeding makes its almost impossible for the smaller clubs to get in
Open ControlsI think its important to note that the premier league has a lot more money in it than say the Slovakian league. There will always be a gulf between these nations no matter how hard UEFA try. Its just the way it is.
Open ControlsThere will be. I dont think the Slovak champions who obviously work hard to win the league should be ousted out the comp by a team who had an OK season and came 4th in their league.
Open ControlsGood point well made. I think the amount of money the CL offers though is somewhat dependant on the quality of the competition. Once you start limiting it to 2 teams per nation there will be a lot less revenue going into the CL. Its a sure way for UEFA to lose money and ultimately the teams who participate will get less.
Open Controlsthe Champions League is about high quality football. as it is, the group stages can be a bit uninspiring at times.
if the Slovak champions can beat the 4th place team in a play off, or whatever their route to the tournament is, then they have earned their right to compete in the CLOpen Controls
fair enough
but if that was the case that means that Atletico, who could make it to the semis or possibly even the finals, wouldn't have been allowed to compete in the CL this year
i'd rather a 3rd, 4th, and even 5th team from a bigger league be allowed to compete instead of another team from a smaller countryOpen ControlsHows the team from the smaller country going to become a bigger team though if the money keeps going to the big leagues?
The gulf is increasing. Yes the other clubs might get their day in the sun Celtic v Barca ect. Even though I hate to admit it Celtic should be a big club and competing with the elite but instead when they get a half decent player he'll jump shit to sit on a PL bench.Open ControlsJump ship *
Open Controlsthe best want to compete against the best. many players would rather jump ship to join a lower level EPL side and compete against top opposition every week as opposed to staying in a smaller league and playing say 1 other good team i their league plus a couple CL or Europa matches every year
Open Controls
now what happens if the CL and Europa winners are both from the same league but both sides finish outside the top 4? 😕
Open ControlsOne less spot for 6th/7th to get into the Europa league
Open Controls
I do actually favour the idea of a cup winner being involved in the CL over say 3rd and 4th spot. It'd make the FA cup and League cup a whole lot more interesting. If the winner of the cup is already in the top 2 then 3rd place goes to the CL
Open Controlsresults in the league favor consistency whereas the cups are based on such fewer matches, and partially based on the draw, as well as potentially based on penalties
also if you gave cup winners a spot in the CL it could only be the FA Cup. wouldn't be fair if it was the League Cup too as most every other country has only one Cup not two.
also if you give cup winners a spot that sets a precedent and you have to give cup winners from every country a spot, thus allowing far too many lower league teams into the CL and lowering the quality of playOpen ControlsOk so lets say its just one cup winner from each nation. The lesser nations simply have to go through a qualifying round just like their league winners do.
Open Controls
It is very unfortunate when a Club wins the Champions League and this results in another Club from the same country that would otherwise have qualified has to miss out. So it seems only fair that the Champions League winners should get an extra place in this case.
I liked the old system in which only one team from each country plus the European Champions would qualify, but that probably won't happen because too many of the big Clubs from the stronger Leagues would object to being excluded.
Bring back the old Cup Winners Cup! If there were only one or two Clubs per nation in the Champions League then the status of the Cup Winners Cup would be considerably enhanced. The winners of the Cup Winners Cup should get an additional place in the next Cup Winners Cup, not in the Champions League, unless they also qualified for the Champions League by winning their national championship. But they could still play the Champions League winners in the European Super Cup.
Have a third competition to succeed the Europa League. Again, if there were fewer teams in the Champions League then the status of this third competition would also be enhanced. And have fewer dropouts from the Champions League in it, so that it can stand alone on its own merits. In the old days, many of the big clubs competed in this third competition when they had failed to win their national League or Cup the previous season, and the Club that won it was often stronger than the one that won the Cup Winners Cup.
In short, the best way to increase the status of the Europa League would be to decrease the number of teams in the Champions League, not to give its winners the right to play in the next season's Champions League. The Champions League would then revert to being a League for true Champions, and the other competition might well become equally strong.Open Controls

Ivanovic Ward Coleman
Silva Nasri Puncheon Hazard
Suarez Lukaku Aguero

Open ControlsYessir. I think you've got it right. You already have Mannone playing, don't think double Sunderland at the back is worth it with them fixtures. Nice team KOL.

Small green arrow this week after two big reds. What you all think of giving Coleman the armband? Would love to punt the captaincy on Barkley but very concern about his gametime. Chasing 84 points in ML.
Open ControlsSturridge to Dzeko for free? Have Lukaku and Suarez.
Open ControlsWho to Captain? Baines or Lukaku?
Open ControlsAnyone else still alive in both the Paddy and Members cups? Good score of 78 (-4) this week has scraped me through in both.
Open ControlsLost at the bottom of last page!
Lukaku has CPL and sun in the DGW.
Just for those looking to captain him, Everton lost 1-0 at home to Sunderland and drew 0-0 away to Crystal Palace. They didn't score against either team..
...Lambert got 11 points away to Cardiff earlier in the seasonOpen Controlswell sunderland now are terrible and also I think everton are in much better form....the percentages are well in lukakus favour
Open ControlsI'm hoping someone can convince me but Lukaku tends to blank when you need him most..
Especially with a captain's armband on him.Open Controlshe was a popular captain choice when he was out of form, and everton look to have added more goals to their game recently....you also cant overlook the obvious fact that lukaku has one extra game...all it takes is 2 goals/assists and hell probs beat lambert
Open ControlsThat's true.. I have a feeling he could blank in one of the matches and get a goal in the second, whereas Lambert could get a brace + 3 baps..
Wishful thinking.
The notion that most will be captaining Lukaku sways it too, do I follow the crowd or do I try to steal a march?Open Controlswell I don't have lukaku and don't plan to get him...as I said the percentages aren't in your favour, but its not impossible....have you considered captaining baines/coleman?
Open ControlsI've considered it, but I'm not sure about Everton's ability to keep out Sunderland and Palace.
Lukaku (C) is looking more likely thanks to Dogba below.. 😛
Cheers for the advice Ramessi 😀Open Controls
Sunderland are terrible and Everton are really, REALLY close to grabbing a CL spot! I think they'll win both their games.
Open ControlsLukaku always seems to struggle against the lesser teams and perform against the bigger teams, hence people getting burnt when (C) him.
Going with Baines myself.Open ControlsDo you see them keeping 2 clean sheets? Sunderland are useless but they could easily nick the one goal, and Palace are the same.. Or do you think Everton have the strength at the back to keep both out?
Open ControlsI'm banking more so on assist and goal prospects. Think they will keep 1 CS and he could be involved in goals.
To be honest there are a lot safer (C) options but I like to take a punt every now and again. Especially when I'm struggling to choose my (C) why not just go for a punt I say.Open ControlsI like the notion of captaining Baines / Coleman but I think I'd feel safer in (C) Lukaku this week as I can't predict when Sunderland / Palace will score.
Best of luck with it though! Here's hoping for goals galore from the Everton backline 😉Open Controls
I think you're overthinking this... he's a nailed on striker in a team that's scored a lot of goals lately. He's just coming of an assist and a goal last game. He's got a DGW with great fixtures...
Open ControlsI'm overthinking it, you're 100% right D 😛
Lukaku ftw 😎Open ControlsNo guarantee it'll work out, but he's the "best choice" this GW, in other words he's got the least risk hanging over him.
Open ControlsOh I know, Lambert or Baines or one of the City mids could easily outscore him,, but he is probably the best choice on paper anyway..
Open Controls
They lost to Sunderland because they were a man down early on from a horrendous Osman mistake. And tbh Palace were incredibly lucky to keep them out, seriously the amount of chances Everton missed in that game was over 9000!!! 😛 Lambert is not a bad choice at all though 🙂
Open ControlsHad a feeling they were down to 10 men in that match but I decided to keep that bit of info quiet for my post 😉
Lambert will still do well for me 🙂 I'm not going to put all my eggs in one basket and captain him though, Lukaku (C) or Coleman (C) methinks, unless the City boys convince me before the end of the week.. Could be anyone! 😀
Who're you going for man? 🙂Open ControlsI would have kept it quiet too 😉
Probably Luk, Dzeko or AgueroOpen Controls
Is Demel nailed on?

I have Yaya and want Aguero upfront, but would it be better bringing in;
A) City defender
B) Doubling up in midfield with perhaps Nasri?Open ControlsWhen i say better i mean as a 3rd city player. Yaya, Aguero and ....
Open ControlsI'm considering the Aguero, Toure and Silva triple up, there should be a few points there hopefully.
Is Aguero definitely fit? I've been a bit out of touch lately.
Out of your two options I think you should go with Nasri.Open ControlsI am also tempted to bring in Silva instead of Nasri?
Open Controls
Aguero game time.
What do you think guy's. How many minutes will he get over the next two?Open Controls0, he's been ruled out.
( 😈 )Open ControlsI'm just getting tired of seeing this question asked on every page..
Nobody knows, its pointless to ask people on here, the only person worth asking is Pellegrini and he doesn't come on here that often any more.Open ControlsIf you are so tired about seeing this question why are you bothering yourself by answering.
My advice to you is if you don't like a question don't reply! Simples.Open ControlsTo be fair to Madridista, you ask questions like this all the time.

If I buy a player for 5.0 and he's now 6.0, will I lose 0.1 if he drops?
Open ControlsDon't really see what's the point of this apart from maybe you think you're v funny or as usual you're just trying very hard to be funny. Or maybe you're just continuing to try and knock people's genuine posts. Either way I won't comment on any of you're posts in the future and I politely ask you not to comment on mine.

Haha! Got into a big tiff with Forca resulting in a double ban
Open Controls
0. Really don't understand what ppl are playing at.
Open ControlsWith Sturridge blanking recently and having only 1 game this week I'm happy enough to take a punt on Aguero hoping it will work out.
Open ControlsAgree. Especially if you are like me and chasing a rival you don't really have a choice
Open ControlsLikewise, if it doesn't work out it's a straight swap of Kun > Aguero
Open Controls
i think the aguero > sturridge move will bite people.. sturridge is due imo.. loves the big matches! aguero on th other hand is uncertain to play the full 180.. id invest in the areas where players are likely to start. same goes for dzeko i think he may split gametime with aguero if hes back. im personally going for hart, yaya, silva.. yaya because hes yaya.. hart because i can keep him in till the end of the season before everybody starts doing it (and believe me they will) and silva because he has two dgw's and has hit a bit of form recently. makes most sense to me.
may swap hart out for cech mind you if aguero hits form fast but i dont see that happening this time with world cup around corner cant imagine him risking too muchOpen Controls

A) Aguero + 4.6 (Demel etc)
B) Dzeko + Coleman/BainesOpen ControlsI did sturridge zab to dzeko baines

Boruc / Hazard / Olsson / Chester

Open Controls
Is anyone who can afford both getting dzeko over aguero?
Open ControlsI can afford aguero easily but I am sticking with aguero but have left 2ft for next week to get him in for run in if he comes back to full fitness
Open ControlsIf makes sense to keep dzeko if you already own him but if you don't want would you advise?
Open Controls
Dzeko & Aguero? That means ditching Suarez or Lukaku. I think plenty could afford it, but I don't think many would want to go through GW34 without one of those.
Open ControlsThat's not what I meant mate. I mean if you can afford both are you getting dzeko instead of aguero
Open ControlsI can't deicde. If I go Dzeko it means I can get Baines/Coleman in my team and I don't need to downgrade Ivanovic to Sagna.
If I go for Aguero I have to go for Stones and Sagna.
Tough call.Open ControlsVery tough. I already own Coleman but if I didn't I don't know if i would think I need him.

This season in fpl has been a rather absurd one, so I thought I'd do a fully jonty of a player who typifies this season and the success that the man himself, Jonty has had.
Team Name/ Rank: Big Testicles (20)
Transfers(Hits): 41 (8)-no higher than -8, interestingly he didn't made a transfer in 5 weeks
Times Scored over 100: 1
Times scored over 75: 10
Success Stories: Coleman, Sturridge(Got off Gw 12)
Captained Hazard for his hatrick
Hit Yaya, Ramsey, hazard at right times
Negredo (during his stint of success)
Gerrard Gw 23-just as he hit his form
Gw26-Bough Sturridge again and Patrice Evra
Chasing the Bandwagon Transfers;
Bought Chamakh gameweek 2
Bought Ramsey Gw 3
Bought Campbell Gw 4
Davies Gw 6
Yaya Toure Gw 9
Berahino(sat on bench for 4 weeks) and Barkley GW 10
Tim Howard for a hit?? (Gw 16)
Gnabry (Gw22)
Fabio (gw23)
Kieran Richardson (Gw27)
Captain Choices
Zabaleta (24points) Gw3
Zabaleta (14) Gw4
Ivanovic (12) Gw5
Captain Michu for 3 consecutive fails between gw 7-10
Coleman (20points) Gw 16
Gw 19- Captainede Yaya Toure received coleman as VC and got 20 poitns (wtf???)
Captained Hazard for his 42 points
Coleman Gw 30 (22 Points)
Coleman in the double Gameweek (18)
What I want to point out here is this guy chased every single bandwagon and every time it worked; he has had Campbell, dzeko, sturridge, lukaku, Suarez, Rooney, adebayor, soldado, Aguero even Berahino practically every forward in the game
He captained defenders 8/32 times, that's one in four weeks and every time they got points; how ridiculous is that.
He want without suarez for 5 weeks brought him back in, this guy played with no logic, yet he is ranked 20th in the world.
My Argument: FPL is 90% luck 10% good decisionsOpen Controlspretty much bang on
Open Controls- Open Controls
Think its more than 10% skill really, look at Jontys past season performances and try to tell me that there is no skill in consistently achieving such a high rank.
Open ControlsYeah if you want to get top 5,000
But if you want to get Top 500 it is 90% luck
I don't doubt Jonty is a great fpl manager, but this guy for one has never been proven as a manager
2010/11 670278
2011/12 353616

You say no logic, people in the top 1k say genius foresight..
Open ControlsI never said no logic and those who argue they saw this as 'the year of the bandwagon' or 'I just got him because why wouldn't he do well' or those who typify this year and the 90% logic thing I was talking about.

40 points ahead of my rival, he has Dzeko I have Sturridge, shall I cancel him out by doing Sturridge to Dzeko?

b) Aguero + Stones and Sagna
What would you do?Open ControlsGuys,
How does Adebayor look till the end of the season? I have Sturridge, Suarez, and Lukaku as my front 3 and was looking to offload Sturridge given his dip in form. Don't have enough money for Aguero and not sure about Dzeko's gametime hence the question
