The Dugout Discussion – Newcastle vs Liverpool

Gameweek 10 begins at St James’ Park for a fixture that, a few weeks back, would have looked decidedly one-sided. Today, however, Newcastle host Liverpool off the back of two unlikely away wins at Spurs and Man City, while the visitors limp to the North East nursing indifferent form and fragile confidence.

Bizarrely, the match will be compelling viewing for all the wrong reasons. Many will want an uneventful encounter, with little or no contribution from Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling. Having suffered heavy sales going into today’s Fantasy Premier League deadline, the 19-year-old will undoubtedly provide the biggest threat to a Magpies rearguard that, despite recent form, has failed to convince. Sterling is without a goal in his last four outings and many Fantasy managers will be hoping that run is extended further, watching today’s match from behind the sofa.

The early kick-off is followed by six three o-clock encounters: sadly, we’re without a tea-time clash to see us into Strictly this evening.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Anyone priced out of a Sterling hit this past GW? Ramsey and Oscar were my options but I couldn't justify the -4.

      Shipped him out to Downing (lol) to enable Costa.

        I shipped Siggy to Hazard for a hit and couldn't do Sterling to anyone worth it.

        Might go for Theo if he seems healthy.

      If Di Maria wasn't playing City then I'd have got rid of him.

    Sterling, Tadic -> Sanchez, Downing?

    I have 3 Soton (Pelle, Tadic, Bertrand), so might be time to starting getting rid.

    I think we'll see one player dominate today. Everyone's thinking Costa but I think this will be Hazard's game. Shame I don't own him.

    @Delilah

    There's always going to be fans who complain when you have a bad run, happens with every single football club in the world, don't just pin it on us, look at the anti-Rodgers campaign now.

    Pardew's made some big mistakes, but he's done a decent job given the resources available, most of the campaigns are against Ashley but people know they can't really affect that, so go for the manager instead (wrongly imo).

    People think we should be a top 6 side due to the fanbase and the fact we get more fans in every week than every other side bar Man U and Arsenal.

    Obviously, unless Ashley spends money, that's not going to happen, but there's no reason why we can't finish comfortably in the top 10 with the squad we have.

      what do you think of the sack pardew campaign??

        I can understand it, given the results since January, I don't think many managers would still be in a job if they had performed as we did.

        Part of that is down to him, he has wasted some good players, but not all of them were players he really wanted in his side. Given the fact that Ashley sold Cabaye and didn't replace him, and Cisse had a shocker season, and how we were never in relegation trouble, he didn't have the easiest job.

        The start of this season really hasn't been that bad, we threw away a win against Palace and were horrific against Southampton and in the first half against Hull, but we really haven't played that badly.

      i am sorry mate, but newc has some very good talent there.
      Cabella costing 15 mln is not pocket money.
      Siskoko, krul, cisse, janmaat, cabella ahve all either played or are playing for their national squads.
      throw in obertans, ameobi, aarons with lots of legs and potential.

        Yep, we still have a decent squad, and have bought exceptionally over the last 5 years.

        But we've spent no money in net terms since Ashley took over, and you're going to struggle to compete in the PL if you do that.

          you reckon Obertan's injury is bad..out for a good month u thunk...
          at leat pardew finally got it. to bench goufran. obertans , sisoko, cisse need to start.
          cabella always to come in 2nd half until he adjusts to premier. meanwhile ameobi starts for goufran.
          oh, forgot before to mention anita, who also has played for Holland. why didnt he play today?

    Ah shit. I've just logged on and looked at my team for the first time since last night. Thought it looked strange - took me a few seconds to realise I must have forgotten to press confirm after I finished sorting it out. I have Aguero captain instead of Sanchez and Duff coming off the bench as first sub for Moore instead of Naylor. Bolleaux.
    Sorry amigos 🙁
