The ScoutCast – Episode 156 – Champ

Myself, Granville and Jonty welcomed Fantasy Premier League royalty for this week’s episode, as reigning champion, Tom Fenley, made his belated ScoutCast debut.

Tom joined us to talk us through his difficult post-championship season, whilst lending his informed view the situation facing the current Fantasy Football Scout league leader, and FPL number one, Simon March, aka “Dufflinks”.

Of course, we were also glad to have Tom’s expertise on board to help us grapple with the latest round of topics fed to us by the community. Amongst the many issues tackled, we attempt to explain the withering form of Sergio Aguero, discussing the merits or otherwise of an Argentine exit strategy.

This episode was recorded on Tuesday evening with a live Hangout broadcast. If you missed that and you really want to catch up on the latest beard developments (Tom abstains from this), you can view the Hangout in full via the movie below.

If you prefer to have your ScoutCast slip down that little bit easier, you’ll be wanting the rather more slick and refined audio version via this link or the first player below.

Be sure to subscribe to our Youtube channel if you want to be kept informed of future live ScoutCasts.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Since gameweek 16 Harry Kane hasn't gone for more than 2 games without scoring.

He blanked last week against Burnley.

Spurs play Villa at home who shipped 3 against QPR at home last week.

Stand-out armband choice I would have thought.

I am worried about Spurs motivation. Even Harry Kane needs help from the team.

I haven't owned him for any of those hauls 🙁 My FPL season is shattered because of this.
      Getting him this week finally.
I think. Maybe not though. Dunno.

    Hey all,

What is the story with Sturridge? Was thinking to drop Aguero for Sturridge but was watching the scout cast and they were saying he is not set to play in the upcoming weeks?

I know he has a blank but other than that??

    1. RoysCallerAnne

He will play. Has a blank in 33 but will start from now on w/o a doubt, imo. Problem is.. the thigh could go ping again at any moment. That issue could potentially ruin his career if it is not sorted this summer with surgery.

Is he planned to have surgery then ?

I've seen talk of it. Non world cup/ euro summer would be the ideal time I guess.
It all seems to be thigh/ hip issues and some sort of imbalance in his gait.
Surely it needs fixing. Although sometimes if surgery isn'y an option .. all the physio in the world will fall short..

He's a good player, but a shocking signing. He did well last year but sadly this season is actually the norm for him...not last season.

To be fair, I heard on the Guardian football weekly podcast that Sturridge has been injured an average of every 4.5 games...

Aye, slow he was agreed, but he was solid all throughout, did what was asked ad held up well. Definitely one of the better performances from the Liverpool players that night, IMO.
Him and Lovren were rocks in the back.

Ya slim pickings alright. It's annoying though as there are 6 teams not playing in GW 33 so bringing one in would be ideal at home the Swansea and then have them the following for their double.

Who will start Bellerin or Debuchy ??
    Wenger on Debuchy…
Debuchy is alright. I can only play three players over 21 [in the under-21 league] so he is physically fit and ready. He lacks a bit of a competitive edge but overall he has no medical problems.

me think Bellend will start and Debuchy will get few mins.

yeah we have the same CHE trio? - what's your take on Remy? Worth the risk?

a Pool defender and 2 of their mids sound very decent. No love for Studge?

Ivan/Terry/Haz. I don't think he's worth the risk personally, I've got a sneaky feeling that come GW34 a lot of people on here are gonna regret choosing him. Also, he's not explosive and is injury-prone. I'm surprised to see so many great FPL managers picking him up.

Nah, not for me, unless Aguero blanks the next two weeks and I lose patience with him. Could be a great pick though.

We great FPL managers were made undone last week for not going with Benteke/Austin, so maybe we're rying to be radical this time 😛

Nah, tbh I feel skeptical about his prospect too. He may score big against QPR but I don;t think he's guaranteed minutes under Mour even when Costa is out.

That's the issue, MCI has good fixture in GW34 too despite it's being a single game. One of Silva or Kun might leave my team then.

My team in GW34 will probably be something like:

                  Panti
                  Ivanovic* Terry* Skrtel*
                  Hazard* Coutinho* Sterling/Hendo* Mata/Eriksen
                  Aguero Kane Vardy*

That way I've got 7 DGWers, 2 City attackers for their strong fixture, and I can get all this without taking any hits. I'm loving it tbh 🙂

    HI All,

just want to do a CAPTAINS POINTS CHECK

basically: how many points have you got from your captains so far?
(and what proportion of your total is that)

At the end of GW31 I have: 386
which is 386/1701= 22.69% of my total.

If your captain was chosen randomly then the % should be equal to 2/12= 16.67%
(since captain counts double it is effectively 2 players out of 12)

Obviously, I'd expect since we'd be captaining the best players in the game and DGW players then the average is likely to be significantly above this...probably around 25%.

I have felt unlucky with captains this season and so would like to finally put this conjecture to a more robust test!

    So..what are your captaincy stats?

Its interesting how unfounded beliefs take a hold in the community, and before long everyone is parroting the same mantra, all based on nothing

    "Tottenham have no motivation"

Been hearing this little gem crop up all week, all because they only managed to draw against a very stubborn Burnley side. There is no evidence they lack motivation.

The fcts are they still have a chance of a top four place , either utd or city probably lose this weekend, keeping Tottenham in the hunt.

We all know they unlikely to get there but saying they have no motivation is just nonsense.

They had 54% possession but only 10 touches inside the box with only 2 shots inside the box all game. Burnley with less possession had 32 touches inside the box and 10 shots from within the box.

Who was more eager to go on the attack?

They were happy to through the motions and pass it around but they didn't seem to eager to get Kane into strong goal scoring positions. When comparing the two teams Burnley had far more motivation.

so true. I've often said the same thing. its great to watch. fascinates me. mob mentality and so called wisdom of the crowd is interesting in all aspects of life. highlights the failures in reasoning of our species brilliantly.
as for the spurs point I've been doing fpl for 8 years and its absolutely true that the teams fighting for their survival tend to dig deep and pull out performances that increase their fpl potential. not sure that applies as much for the big teams who have to fight complacency week in week out against so called inferior teams.

B or a punt on someone like Dann? I guess you'd only play Toby maybe once since you've got Clyne and 2 Chelsea, so you could always opt for a differential defender with a profitable fixture coming up instead of another Saint.

        • 12 Years

Yes, kinda waste to get Toby when I still have 3 biggies at the back. Dann is a serious differential indeed. But who to drop? tbh I feel like playing Bellern AND PVA this week, both of them outscored my supposedly biggies last week from the bench!

Still leaning toward A tbh, even though it seems like a luxury move.

Dann has massive attacking potential, he's such a threat from set pieces. I'd sell Bellerin. Can't see him being much use over the rest of the season with Debuchy back. I know how you feel, PVA out scored my defenders last week too but Palace are an attacking side and the other three are great options on paper.

Yeah A does seem pretty good actually, but you know that GK transfers are frowned upon on here 😉 Go with your gut mate.

    Pants
    Ivan - Toby - bellerin
    Silva - Hazard (v) - Coutinho - Mane
    Aguero - Kane (c) - Tekkers

    Krul - PvA - bentaleb - Clichy

(1 FT, $3.6m, WC) Am leaning towards keeping Tekkers for this week, Spurs haven't kept a CS in god knows how long. Have some pretty dire underlying defensive stats, are w/o Lloris, and I can see this being a high scoring affair between two very attack minded sides. Spurs have also conceded the second most headed goal attempts these last 6 matches (18), Tekkers is looking great from SP's I hope he'll exploit that little statistic.

Other option is Tekkers to Murray this week. He's been on fire and has scored a goal every 93 minutes so far. Thoughts guys? Cheers.

Dang so frustrated, not sure what to do. Don't want to slip up after a brilliant DGW.

Debating between saving a transfer and bringing in Remy. My biggest problem is I have to remove 3 players by next gameweek (Austin, Benteke, Kos) but want to maximize DGW players for 34.

I think Remy will do well this week and then start a run of blanks. It's a bit silly to be gambling with a Chelsea player just before their DGW imo, having 3 nailed on starters for that is vital, and I don't think we can call Remy that.

                Fabs? - meh
                Terry? - meh

Yeah that's the difficult part. I've got Haz, Ivan and Terry. I'm just not feeling like Remy is a sensible option, but what do I know, Mark and other FPL pros are all getting him in, so they're probably right.

                      - Game time concerns (early subs likely)
                      - Injury prone, lack of match fitness
                      - If he is injured/Costa is back by the DGW, it'll take 2 transfers to ensure 3 Chelsea players
                      - Mourinho tends to grind out wins and focus on clean sheets at this stage of the season

I could go on a bit longer but everything else has already been said on here over the last few days. Like all strikers, he's got pros and cons and an element of risk too. I don't want to talk anyone out of getting him in but I personally won't be.

Plus 1, even on the scoutcast Jonty was (correct me if I'm wrong) emphasizing Remy's ability to rack a goal in 30 minutes or 60 minutes (like Cisse), more so than the likelihood of him starting and finishing both matches.

Guess it's just a matter of weighing the pros and cons of his situation. Goals, yeah he's more than capable if you give him the half hour , but 130-180 minutes of DGW time? not sure

I'd still have to make 3 transfers for next week though. Will be forced into getting 3 playing players regardless.

Liverpool players will have to wait till the week after, probably limiting me to 2 for a hit.

I echo others sentiments about the Remy move being a tad premature right now. Too many ?'s with Remy's game time for now, would feel safer with more perspective next week if possible Acqua. He may very well outscore Austin this week by a couple of points, but could leave you in awkward position Gw34. Save, IMO.
