The Numbers Game – 2014/15 Review – West Ham

Our members articles analysing last season are completed today with a review of West Ham’s performances. The Hammers entered 2014/15 in reasonable health, having finished 13th in the Premier League in the previous campaign, although they only gained 40 points and did flirt with the relegation zone before finally confirming their top-flight status.

Plenty of changes were made in both playing and coaching personnel at Upton Park last summer, with forwards Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho brought in, while Teddy Sheringham joined up as an attacking coach. Cheikhou Kouyate and Aaron Cresswell were also signed, while Carl Jenkinson and Alex Song moved to the Hammers on season-long loans.

In this members article, we asses the main goal threats and creators in Sam Allardyce’s final year at the helm and also compare the team’s attacking numbers to the previous year.

Fab isn't a bad pick, it just depends on what you'd do with the funds.

Why Cech if he is the same price as Courtois?
Don't get Targett if you won't start him gw1 - S Taylor has more chance of playing later.
I don't see Schneiderlin giving you many points.
      I like rest.

Good argument, but I thought he seemed pretty absent from the game. Subbed off just after 60 minutes. Wouldn't have scored any bonus and had a very low BPS (see a few pages back).

Just saying, he had a very poor game today despite the assist.

Giroud played quite well when he came on for Walcott. Got into better positions, missed a few chances, but at least he got into positions for the chances. I recall one Walcott header on goal, that's about it?

I know what he's capable of, he's still in my team, but I'm not as sure of him as I was yesterday.

Yep, he was very 'absent' for most of the game, he doesn't have much of a presence playing as a striker.

But can look at it from this way too: He was "absent" for most of this game and still comes out with 6 points. If he picks up form even a little bit against a non-league champion team, then how can you not have him in your team.

Wenger doesn't care how many fantasy points he gets. Yes, he passed it to Oxlade-Chamberlain. That was one of his two passes in the whole first half. (Source: Opta https://twitter.com/OptaJean/status/627853524781670400)

Sanchez didn't feature. There's a lot of competition in the Arsenal midfield and if he keeps underperforming, he won't get the chance against weaker teams.

Gone off him as it stands, doesn't look good up front and I doubt he will play the full 90..it's the uncertainty that has put me off though, if he was playing the full 90 and on the wing I'd have him in.

Theo rarely seems comfortable up top, much better on the right. Ox muddies that water somewhat but my guess fwiw is Ox will come off the bench and both Theo and Giro will start v Hammers.

Until Sanchez is back I would say Walcott is a secure starter, either as the man up front or on wing with Giroud. And do feel he has goals coming, this is first non-friendly game and it was against Chelsea, West Ham will be a very different story.

Sakho would def be better than Deeney Id like to think so.

  9. goriuanx

    Pantilimon / 4m
    Azpi Cedric Huth Lescott Gomez
    Hazard Young Chadli Walcott 4.5m
    Aguero Benteke Sakho

Will monitor the Aguero/Benteke situations but yeah that's how I'm shaping up atm.

Young/Gomez may turn out to be short term picks but I'm not entirely set on getting Bournemouth players (Ritchie/Francis) from the go.

few two many what ifs there suddenly for me. You could easily have a week one from your front 8 where only hazard, young, chadli and sakho start... and two of them are away to utd/arsenal

Maybe a little too light on the defence but I like the 3 way defensive rotation and nice goalies. The midfield is very good and so is the attack. I would probably downgrade Ozil/Cazorla to Henderson/Milner then upgrade Azpi > Ivan and one of the 4.5 defenders to Cedric?

Thanks to the guys who commented on my first RMT earlier.

Took on board a few of the comments, mainly about getting myself a grav (best player ever!!), downgrading my defence a bit, losing Coutinho and upgrading attack.

Things now look like this, any other glaring errors?? (apart from the Villa defender, but they got good games and it's my team and Clark knows where the net is so I'm going for it!) 🙂

    Cech
    Cahill - Cedric - Clark
    Ozil - Eriksen - Silva - Oscar

What is your opinion on having a 4.0 million fifth defender?
I'll probably won't be using him anyway because of my three at the back formation (3-5-2)

I have a 4.0 fifth defender and rotating two 4.5 for the third defender slot in a 3-4-3.

If you do get one, make sure he is completely useless and whom nobody else would get.
Dont get someone like Targett who will drop in price due to transfers out.

        ownership 2% for targett...

for me it's a no brainer. It's the most obvious use of 4m in your squad. You are, ideally, never going to play that guy and he'll always be third sub

Pantilimon still a bargain at 5.0, this season?
Nothing has really changed. He will be picking up save points + the odd clean sheet.

It's my first time and I do not fully understand the substitution system.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, from what I'm getting these are the rules:
      1. When the keeper doesn't play, the second keeper is substituted
      2. When an field player doesn't play, any field player is substituted at random?
      3. There are no deductions on the amount of points brought in by a substitute

        • 11 Years

        1. Yes no show for your starting keeper results in bench keeper coming in.
        2. Outfield players that don't play are automatically substituted in order of bench order ( left to right)
The only time this is different is when you only have 3 defenders in your first 11 and one of those does not play. Then your first Sub defender comes in.
        3. No deductions.
