Dugout Discussion – Man United Vs Tottenham

It’s here. The new Premier League season is upon us and begins within the fitting confines of the “theatre of dreams”.

Old Trafford hosts the season opener, as Louis van Gaal’s freshly sculpted Manchester Untied lineup host Tottenham.

It’s a lip-smacking, sun drenched prospect, played on a billiard table of a surface, with an array of Fantasy talent on show.

Immediately we hope to assess the prospects of both Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane – two protagonists who will surely play some part in our seasons, if not our Gameweek 1 lineups.

Following that, we’ve a quartet of three o’clock kick-offs and a tea-time date with the champions.

It’s great to be back.

    So if Chelsea win with a cleanie and Haz blanks the difference between Rooney and Haz captain is 2 points, no big deal if Haz blanks then but if I was a Rooney captainer I'd be a little concerned at 5:30 today

      Fair enough but there are worrying indications too.

      For example, the constant push out wide to Young who crosses a ball towards Roo or Mata, both not the biggest players. Need to cut that rubbish out imo.

          Depends on what you call 'better' chances, but they certainly had a couple of good chances. You'd expect more from a team that is spending 100 mil every year against a team that can barely field 3 decent middfielders. United fans shouldn't be too happy with this victory imo, Spurs deserved more.

            I'm talking about clearer goal scoring opportunities and I'm talking about the number of created chances (United had more, FYI). I can't get on board with "Spurs deserved more" when United beat them 1-0 and played better - better fluidity and more chances created, as I said. Blind was also playing at CB & Spurs completely failed to capitalise on this.. Seemed pretty obvious to me that Spurs should have tried to exploit his lack of pace, height and lack of physical presence.Expect more than a win and a clean sheet on their opening fixture against a team who you would expect to be challenging for a champions league position this season? LOL.

          He was sharp in the first half but no supply in second half. Come close to scoring with a header diverted by Smalling but Chadli was often the furthest forward in the second half.

      Some are some aren't. Basically much better for GKs and worse for defenders who rely on 90% passing (e.g. Mert and Kos)
