The Dugout Discussion – Watford versus Crystal Palace

There’s just the one Premier League fixture for Fantasy managers to monitor over their Sunday lunches, with Watford welcoming Crystal Palace to Vicarage Road.

It’s a tale of two sides with conflicting form: the Hornets are riding high after back-to-back victories, while the Eagles’ wings have been clipped by successive defeats.

Watford rank third-bottom for goals conceded (five) and big chances conceded (five), illustrating their diligence at the back. Moreover, they are the only side in the league that are yet to concede a home goal this campaign. The Hornets have added a sting to their defensive resolve in recent Gameweeks, too, recording wins over Swansea and Newcastle.

The Eagles amassed eight goals through the opening four Gameweeks but have registered consecutive blanks since then. Also of concern to Alan Pardew is the fact that Palace have conceded more shots inside the box (66) than any team in the league. That being said, they rank sixth for big chances (10) and shots on target (28), which should ensure that Watford’s back line are in for a testing afternoon.

Who should I get rid of? 2 FT, 0.5 ITB.

Joe Gomez, Gomis, Ayew, Sterling or Aguero?

Gomez seems fairly obvious but I have Kolarov, Richards (STK) + Darmian (ars)/Nyom (bou) for next week and can take a 0.2 loss in his price I guess. Plus with the three at the back and Lovren's injury I figure there's a slim chance he comes in for Can at some point.

I guess Gomez + Gomis to 4.5 def + Vardy looks the play?

Which do you prefer for the season. KDB interchangeable with Silva.

    Mata KDB Sanchez Payet Mahrez
    Aguero Vardy 4.3

    or

    KDB Sanchez Payet Mahrez Drinkwater
    Aguero Pelle Vardy

So can we say Walcott is nailed on yet?

I was back and forth between Walcott and Sanchez on my wildcard, went Walcott in the end, which was looking great when he banged in Arsenal's first. But then we know what happened there.

    So....

    1. Hold Walcott

    2. Walcott to De Bruyne

    3. Get Sanchez back in for Walcott (will involve a -4 hit)

    Input very much appreciated

No. Giroud has played himself into 2nd choice but there will always be rotation between him and Walcott.

Best defender 4.7m or less, so I can get Vardy and I can't afford J.Evans

    A) R.Martin
    B) B.Davies
    C) Get Evans and take a punt of Murray upfront for BOU.
    D) Get Evans and go for Berahino up front (I have Myhill too, triple WBA seems crazy)

In the same situation, I have ruled out Evans as I my not keen on having a keeper and defender from same club.

Martin, Davies and Moreno, are all viable options. Pick the one that fits in/rotates best with the rest of your defence.

How did Ighalo play this afternoon ? I'm concidering him as either quality bench cover or the second forward in a 3-5-2, if Wilson is ruled out long term.

    Myhill, Butland
    Kompany, Darmian, Richards, Probl, Gomez
    Sanchez, Pedro, Yaya, Payet, Mahrez
    Kun, Ighalo, Wilson

    A) Wilson to bench fodder (Kone/Jerome), Gomez to a 5.7 or 5.9 of less defender, Play Ighalo
    B) Wilson to Vardy and Gomez to bench fodder (4.1 or less defender), Bench Ighalo most weeks
    C) Wilson to Vardy and Butland to Hennessey, play Myhill and bench Ighalo most weeks
