The Weekly Shop – Gameweek 27

We head out to the Weekly Shop now, assessing the player lists of our partner games to highlight the likely targets that will make up our own weekly squads.

As always, the player analysis is split into two sections: I’ll break down the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re focusing on the FantasyBet and DraftKing player lists.

Better Buys

Although the Stoke defence has been underwhelming of late, with a single clean sheet in eight matches, the potential return of Ryan Shawcross should boost their prospects of returns. Even if their skipper fails to make it, we reckon the Potters should still manage to keep out a visiting Aston Villa that have blanked in three of their last four matches. Jack Butland (FantasyBet 4.5m, Draftkings $4,100) offers a safe route into the hosts backline and is joint-top with Petr Cech for total saves (88) this season.

Despite conceding against Arsenal and Manchester City in their previous couple of outings, Leicester City have to be backed at home to Norwich this time out. The Foxes have five clean sheets in the last eight Gameweeks, whilst their visitors have failed to net in five of their last seven away matches. Christian Fuchs’ crossing from open play and set-piece duties have provided three assists already this term, making the Austrian full-back a sound option in both FantasyBet (4.5m) and Draftkings ($4,600).

It’s tempting to invest heavily in a Spurs side that host Swansea City, though it’s worth bearing in mind that the North London club have struggled in post-Europa league matches this campaign and face Fiorentina tomorrow night. Dele Alli remains at the bargain price of 5.0m in FantasyBet (and $6,100 in Draftkings) and with two goals and three assists in his last four appearances, the midfielder is an obvious one to consider. Mauricio Pochettino is likely to put the onus on winning the league match with the potential of a title push on the cards and Harry Kane’s (FantasyBet 9.5m, Draftkings $8,300) five goals in as many matches also makes it difficult to ignore. The Spurs top scorer is expected to wear a protective mask to cover a broken nose on Sunday afternoon.

Jamie Vardy (FantasyBet 7.5m, Draftkings $7,400) faces a Norwich side that arrives in relegation form, having picked up a single point in six league outings. The Foxes frontman is likely to be a very popular pick this week across the games – after a six-week barren spell, Vardy appears to have rediscovered his eye for goal and netted four goals in as many fixtures.

Poundstretchers

West Brom’s Ben Foster (FantasyBet 4.5m, Draftkings $3,700) has regained the keeper’s jersey from Boaz Myhill and looks a good value option in Draftkings in particular, having produced 18 saves in four starts since his return (with a point available for each save). Those shot-stopping abilities could help bring a third clean sheet in five outings for Tony Pulis’ side as they host a struggling Crystal Palace.

Kevin Wimmer (FantasyBet 4.5m, Draftkings $2,100) has earned two clean sheets in three starts for Spurs as a result of Jan Vertonghen’s absence. While the Austrian may not offer the same sort of attacking threat as his defensive team-mates, that bargain price is too good to overlook at home to Swansea on Sunday afternoon.

In DraftKings it’s worth considering Southampton centre-backs as budget options if you’re backing the Saints to keep a seventh consecutive clean sheet. Chelsea travel to St Mary’s having failed to score at Watford in their last road match but have shown some ruthless form since, putting five past both Newcastle and a weakened City team in the FA cup. Virgil van Dijk (FantasyBet 5.5m, Draftkings $3,000) and Jose Fonte (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $2,600) aren’t going to be providing many crosses, one of the main traits we look for in a DraftKings defender, but the duo could turn out to be effective enablers if funds are proving tight.

West Ham’s encounter with Sunderland at Upton Park affords us some tempting options. Aaron Cresswell (FantasyBet 5.5m, Draftkings $4,100) is not the most budget-friendly defender but still offers value – the full-back’s attacking forays have delivered a goal and three assists so far this season. Michail Antonio (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $4,900) has scored three in four at home and his five assists in nine outings indicates why the midfielder is rivaling the more expensive Dimitri Payet (FantasyBet 7.5m, Draftkings $8,000) in our attentions.

We also fancy Stoke pair Marko Arnautovic (FantasyBet 6.0m, Draftkings $4,700) and Xherdan Shaqiri (FantasyBet 6.5m, Draftkings $5,300) do bring in the points at home to basement-dwellers Villa. Arnautovic looks in line to recover from illness and has already notched against the likes of Chelsea, City and United at home, whilst Shaqiri grabbed an assist in the 3-1 win at Bournemouth last time out.

For cheap striker options we’re turning to the match at Vicarage Road. Bournemouth travel to Watford with both the promoted sides offering strikers that won’t break the bank. Cherries new boy Benik Afobe (FantasyBet 6m, Draftkings $4,700) has scored in both his away appearances since making a winter move from Wolves. For the hosts, Troy Deeney’s (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $5,500) brace against Crystal Palace reminded us of his spot-kick duties and the Hornets skipper could be a viable budget alternative to the out-of-sorts Odion Ighalo (FantasyBet 5.5m, Draftkings $6,600).

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the midweek fixtures. Tomorrow I’ll also bring you up to date on my progress in FantasyBet, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

hi gents, figured I'd take advantage of the slow pages in DZ! here's me right now..2 FT and 3m itb. will be starting Simpson and Aguero for jokes

    .......................Butland
    .....Bellerin - Alderweireld - Simpson
    Alli - Sanchez - Payet - Ozil - Stanislas
    ................Vardy(c) - Aguero

    McCarthy; Kane, Ward, VvD

I'm currently looking at Stanislas > Mahrez this week and run a 352.

Then, even though there's Swansea next gameweek I'm tempted to be rid of Sanchez and get Stanislas back in to return to a 4-man mid (especially since it's looking likely Arsenal have a GW30 blank and Stan does not).

If I DON'T do the above, I think it's a good time to burn my AOA.

    Thoughts?

    Daniels Bellerin Aldeweireld VVD Fuchs
    Mahrez Ozil Payet Alli Gosling
    Aguero Vardy Kane

    6.1m ITB

I have 2 FT's. I can field 11 in GW27 & GW30 with the team I have. Payet, Ozil, Bellerin are the players likely to miss the fixtures.

Do you not think you miss out on the residual value of a wc if you play ithe in gw 36 (for gw37 bench boost)?

Also heavy rotation this last double gw so late in the season can make them fairly poor for returns.

Lastly with so many more fixtures in the gw34 dbl do you not think you have a better selection of players to try and hit a big gw?

      1. oghash
        • 8 Years
        8 years, 4 months ago

I see your point and can see your mind is made up on WC earlier. To answer your questions it all depends on your team and your goals. Some will be set up well so wc before 36 will be a bit of a waste, whilst others will need to.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah my mind is pretty much made up but one of the main reasons for that is to clear out dead wood and set the team.up for the last 8 fixtures.

I never play the wc with one game in mind and with the bench boost coming in to play I want maximum possible exposure to teams with doubles which also allows you to pick teams with doubles who have decent fixtures after too.

The bench boost is a headache eh

Ps you can set your team up for 34 with free transfers but you are restricted by needing players with games in gw 30 too and trying to avoid blanks in gw35. I think trying to do it with free transfers will be very sub optimal on the big double gw whereas playing it gw37 will lead to optimal returns for the likely smaller dbl gw

I do get your point. Personally I'm aiming to wc in 36 but I may have to do it in 33. For me you see one of my money leagues has a 50 pounds prize for best score in the last gw, so my mind is focused a little on that if I gw in 36, try and get that 50 quid also.

Cracking idea that last gw prize.

We used to have some amazing money leagues with parties in pubs with food etc for the last gw and the prizes given out once the final scores were in.
Happy memories afonso Alves and downing for born when they won 8-0 last day of the season, RVP cap when nobody had him.that year due to his injury proneness had two goals before half time I think. My main rival buckled that day and agreed to split first and second 50/50 at half time. I think he beat me by 40 odd points but I still got 750 euro

If you're saving your WC for GW37 then you might want to start thinking about GW34 already. Check Newcastle's fixtures from GW29 onwards, leading into a likely DGW34 with two home games. I'd consider Gosling->Wijnaldum, but going Siggy instead will probably be the sensible and popular short term-option.

Nice team anyways, nicely set up going forward.

    Triple captain Ozil GW34?

CPL + WBA if they get through vs Hull...

    Other options:

Aguero/Silva/KDB vs che new - both away, which is an issue. Also, do you trust Aguero not to get injured in the first game? Not sure I do...

    hi guys,
need your expert help please in picking 3 defenders for this GW
    which 3 from:
    a) Bertrand (CHE)
    b) Williams (spurs)
    c) Kos (man u)
    d) Wimmer (SWA)
    e) Daniels (wat)

OK, d) is obvious but ugh, really not keen on others. Guess you have to play Daniels for his attacking potential. Then it's a toss up between Kos and Bertrand. Probably go with Kos.

      So yeah, c, d and e

      Again, I am no expert

I am trying to decide between Kosc, Daniels and VVD. I don't think Sot will keep a CS, Daniels always has attacking potential and Man Utd are.. well Man Utd

What's your team? I still don't know if I'd bring in Eriksen. Swa (H), West Ham (A) and Arsenal (H) aren't the easiest of fixtures.Granted, Villa and then Bournemouth in 30/31 look promising but by then you'll also want to be thinking of bringing in players who will have a DGW and Spurs don't.

I think if you have 3 Spurs players then great - no reason to change. But I wouldn't be getting 3 in if I had 2.

I think it's because Spurs getting KO'd out the cup has really taken the fun out of the planning for the next few weeks, it's like somebody just gave us cheat codes and we've clocked the game and ruined all the fun. Everyone's transfers are a formality and teams are set, nothing to debate or ponder.

What camp are you currently in ? And why ?

            A: Wiildcard gw33, bench boost gw34, triple C gw37

B: Try to get as many DGWers in your team between gw31-34, triple C in gw34 and wildcard gw36 for gw37 bench boost

C: Wildcard already used, building for BB GW34 while still keeping GW35 in mind (City, Liverpool and Newcastle-players having my interest particularly) and then TC GW37.

While many plan to BB a 15 man DGW squad, I'll use mine to get Vahrez' points along with my 11-12 DGWers in GW34.

Good luck with that, could work out, I think you can do ok without a WC but one scenario could hit you hard, and that's if lose to Reading in cup. That will give Everton and Liverpool both 2 guaranteed dgws and no blanks, so a WC in gw32 or gw33 with 6 Everton and Liverpool in total will be a massive advantage for people who still have wildcard

no worries, if you don't succeed the first time, try and try again..are we sure there's only 2 dgws?
