Site Features

Hot Topics Page Goes Live

The first iteration of the Hot Topics page is now live and can be accessed here.

The link is also available under the Hot Topics tab in the sidebar widget – View All to see the current Hot Topics page.

This represents the first step in what hopefully will be an evolution in the way the community use the site from this point on.

As it stands, the first version is a simple index of the current Hot Topics created, offering direct access to all the discussions flagged as a Hot Topic.

However, we have big plans to evolve this further.

The first step will be to add features to the current page, allowing Moderators to pin Topics to the top of the page to keep them current.

Following that, we will likely look at a method of indicating the current most active Hot Topics and those contributing.

The next proposed steps take even bigger strides.

The vision is for the Hot Topic page to link to a mirrored version of the discussion, allowing for interaction without the need to enter the article thread.

In this way users can choose to view and post within a discussion in the traditional way, via the article thread, or use the Hot Topic page to see the discussion full page and post replies via that view. They will not be separate discussions, there will just be two methods to view and interact.

As this process evolves, the community moderation team will change their approach to Hot Topics. We will have more opening each day, more created as soon as we feel that there is a topic to discuss. They won’t exclusively be created from existing threads.

The moderators will also be far more protective of the discussion within these Hot Topic threads. They will be kept on topic and existing Hot Topics will not be used to open new discussions. You will see the moderators steering and perhaps removing comments more often to keep with this policy.

The community will carry on creating threads that get flagged as Hot Topics in the traditional way – by posting and starting a discussion in the article thread.

However, we may even look at the concept of creating a new level of permission to some community members which enable them to create Hot Topics directly from the Hot Topic page.

This will then create a hybrid of a comments system and old style forum, allowing users to interact with the full conversations of the day, or just navigate straight to the key topics currently being discussed.

In this way, users who want to avoid the pre-season Rate My Team chatter, can circumvent this while continuing to contribute to the key discussions.

We hope you can see the same potential in this development and, from this point on, we will look to you to help steer how it progresses.

We’ve started one of those Hot Topic things to kick things off, gathering your feedback and ideas on the above.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    So with VVD looking like he's played his last game for Southampton, do we now have a nailed on 4m defender with 2 doubles to come? Stephen's place secure to the end of the season?

        well I think he wants to stay in the prem league and I dont think he would feel like some players might that he couldn't play for a rival. He would be absolutely wasted at PSG.

        United and city being in any bidding war will al hinge on finishing in top 4 and thats far from guaranteed.

    How has Zlatan only fallen 0.1m since his suspension when about 20% / 800,000 people have sold him in that time. Looks like there's very little chance of him falling by the weekend either it's ridiculous.

        I know that. It's (or at least used to be) 10% of their ownership to fall below starting price. The red flag would increase on that 10%. But seeing the volume of his NTO which is 20% of TOTAL game ownership he should have fallen by 0.2 or 0.3 by now.

      No, although I think you will want Sanchez in by next week at the latest. The problem with Mane to Sanchez is the derby at home followed by Bournemouth at home. He could explode in either one and outscore Sanchez. Is there any other way you can get Sanchez in?

    Got stuck at the bottom so repost. Thanks homes for your reply.

    Please pick the plan which gains the most points overall:

    Team:

    Heaton – Pickford

    Colman – Baines - Robertson – Alonso – Knightly

    Mane – Alli – Siggy – Phillips - Clayton

    Aguero – Defoe – Lukaku

    Plan 1

    GW 30 – Coleman –> Valencia

    GW 31 – Aguero -> Ibra-Everton (H) + Phillips -> Lanzini-Arsenal (A) -4 Points

    GW32 – Mane -> Sanchez-Palace(A) + Baines -> Holgate or a 4.3 -4 Points

    Total= -8 Points

    Plan 2

    GW30 – Coleman -> Valencia

    GW31 – Aguero -> Ibra-Everton (H)

    GW32 – Baines -> Holgate or another 4.3

    GW33 – Phillips -> Lanzini –Swan(H)

    GW34 – Mane -> Sanchez

    With Plan 2 I would miss Sanchez fixture vs Palace(A) and Boro (A) but have Mane vs Stoke (A) and West Brom (H). Who scores more over those two fixtures?

    With plan 2 im 8 points better off as well but don’t have a full team playing so would having Lanzini vs Arsenal (A) and Swansea (H) make up for the hit??

    Sorry for the length of the post. First to 5 wins.

        Fairly confident Walker will indeed outscore Vert, but if they are both keeping CS maybe he doesn't fall too far behind.

        Plus the points I - hopefully - gain by having an Arsenal defender with a strong set of fixtures puts me in front.

        I don't think it's as quite simple as picking Walker for more points in this scenario, and one I have to seriously consider

        1. Gamoriola of the Galaxy (Eu…
          • 12 Years
          7 years, 5 months ago

          Yeah, back when I chose Baines over Coleman, they were similarly priced. Coleman scored 10 more points than Baines over that period. This hurt because I saved no money. But Vert is something like 0.9 less than Walker, and Walker is no Goalman. So even if he scores 10 more points over the next few weeks, which I think he wont, i can maybe gain more than ten with that 0.9

    Coleman, Mawson, McAuley, Robertson, Daniels

    Thinking of:

    C) Save and play Mawson, McAuley (away to United), Robertson

      I'd be tempted to get a "lesser" midfielder and a better striker as I'm a 3-4-3 man, but that's a bloody strong 3-5-2

        Don't want Costa, suppose eventually Kane + Ibra will come in for Vardy and Lukaku with the assistance of a downgrade elsewhere. Cheers though I am fairly happy with it.

      That's A LOT of defense. And Negredo. Whatthe hell is your TV!

      Similar to mine generally. Same keepers, will have a much cheaper defense, similar mids.

      Have you considered Barnes and money in the bank for Ibra instead of Negredo? Would you be better holding off on the city mid for a couple of weeks too?

        i'd go Yoshi over Bertrand and save the money to help with bringing in Ibra/ Kane etc

        Ha roughly around 106.1 now but was around the 107 mark before I WC'd.

        Thinking on Negredo is i'll play him in 32 & 34 where fixtures couldn't be better and then ship him. Just saving myself a transfer down the line by getting him now.

        Had Sane for a while and really want a City attacker as they'll score v anyone, regardless of the fixture.

    Why is Vardy the 2nd highest forward pick but Mahrez doesn't even feature on the mid picks? Surely he's worth considering.

      He's coming in for me for the injured Antonio, and I'm hugely tempted to stick the armband on him.

      Hoping Leicester haven't peaked and will have a raucous end to the season.

    Any word on Danny Rose fitness? initially he was supposed to be out for February but we're nearly into April now... served me well up until his injury.

    Also lol @ Man City linked with a £50m bid for him. Good player I am a fan but £50m buys you just as good on the continent with change leftover.

        In fairness, a combo of Roberto Carlos and Cafu were worth €100m

        Maldini was worth €100m by himself 😉

        Seamus Coleman.. easily double.

      If we get an update on this it could dial up/down the appeal of Bavies, so I'm interested in finding out.

      Will probably plump for Valencia with the herd, but still could be a great option til WC if Rose is out much longer

      England players are ridiculously overpriced for their ability. I think this may be born out of the homegrown rule. The press over egging their ability doesnt help

    RP since no one loves me!

    A) Coleman >Bertrand
    B) Coleman > Davies (assuming Rose is still out for a couple of weeks)
    C) Coleman > Phil Jones (no money for Valencia)
    D) Save and play Mawson, McAuley (away to United), Robertson

      Hey buddy - I don't love you (soz) but I can comment 😉

      Erm, judging by your option D you don't have the strongest backup. A move is required.

      I would probably do B here, just. I'm yet to be convinced by Bertrand (I'm forgoing him for Valencia, provided he gets through his fixture tonight) and Bavies will be great until WC if Rose is out for a long while.

      Tbh, I was very close to taking the hit for him in for Llorente last week - glad I didn't!

      I'd be definitely popping him in if I could - in my WC draft (now abandoned for this week) I had him, Vardy and Kaku - fixtures are great, he does score when they are "on the beach" (got SO many goals from him tail end of last season).

      If Gabbi is back obviously things change, but Deeney is proven quality and a proven FPL asset so why the flip not.

      (disclaimer: I'm bringing in Mahrez provided Tony V is OK tonight so I can do the double trade. Highly likely to captain him. Could also be tunnel vision)

    Option A : play the fixtures (-8)
    Vardy - STK SUN
    Mane - BOU
    Sane – HUL
    BDavies – bur swa WAT

    Option B
    Aguero – ars che
    Sigurdsson –TOT whu
    Yoshida - BOU CPL wba

    Thoughts much appreciated as always 🙂

    [Option A assumes Poch confirms Rose will most likely miss GW30-32]

    Heaton -- Foster
    Walker -- Alonso -- Baines -- Brunt -- Robertson
    Mané -- Coutinho -- Sigurdsson -- Antonio* -- de Roon
    Costa -- Lukaku - Llorente

    I've done Coleman > Walker already, and plan to do:
    - Antonio > Alli
    - Coutinho > Sanchez (-4)

    The following week I will likely do:
    - Costa > Ibrahimovic

    Problem is, I need 0.8m to make up the difference. I'm annoyingly 0.1m short of Brunt > 4.3m defender, future price changes aside.

    A) Could downgrade Baines to MID/SOU defender (Worth it? Helps DGW prep.)
    B) Mané > 8.6m midfielder (Mané at annoying price point but lush fixtures)
    C) Llorente > Gray/Barnes/Niasse (Doesn't feel too inspiring)

    B) Gestede
    C) Long ( incase Gabbiadini still injuried )
    D) Gabbiadini ( incase he is fit )

    best replacement for coleman
    1) valencia
    2) alonso
