Dugout Discussion – Spurs vs Man United

A day of goals and points aplenty ends with the main event as Spurs host Manchester United in the final fixture to be played at White Hart Lane.

A momentous day for the club, it’s unfortunate for Spurs and for owners of their key Fantasy assets, that the result is somewhat academic.

While Mauricio Pochettino’s men will look to provide their supporters with a fitting sign-off, they will need to lift themselves following the Gameweek 36 reverse at West Ham and Chelsea’s title-winning triumph that followed.

Fantasy managers will be hoping for a quick revival.

Dele Alli and Harry Kane head into the tea-time kick-off owned by 33.8% and 20% of FPL managers respectively, while Christian Eriksen is still found in 18.6% of squads. Kyle Walker also remains the top owned defender (30.7%), although he again misses out today with Kieran Trippier preferred at right-back.

For Kane, there should be no need for extra motivation. He will not only seek to score the final goal at White Hart Lane, he is still giving chase to both Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku in the race for the Golden Boot. He his currently level with Arsenal’s Chilean on 21 goals, trailing the Everton striker by three.

Kane has seven goals from his last six starts but has yet to score against visitors Manchester United in six attempts.

Jose Mourinho’s side arrive to present another line-up influenced by their Europa League campaign. The United manager makes predictable changes following Thursday’s hard-fought 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo as Wayne Rooney starts, along with Anthony Martial in attack.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Would your team be massively different if WC chips existed but not BB/TC/AOA. I doubt it much.

If like many of us you WCed in 35/36 then of course you'd still load up on Arsenal/Saints assets, but obviously wouldn't need to go overboard as you can only play 11 for DGW37.

Since its the end of the season you'd put absolute fodder on the bench to maximise the starting XI, as there's only GW38 to go.
You'd make savings of around 1.5M to spend on main XI. Depending on formation, you'd still have to have a cheap enabler as remember you only need to create a Power 7.

All the high scores, even with BB active, I have seen are based on a Power 7 and the 8th attacker has brought nothing to the table as he's just an enabler and the defences bar a few individuals have hardy scored anything to write home about either.

My team wouldn't be very different, my midfield would be exactly the same (Sanchez, Hazard, Eriksen, Sane, King), I'd just have bench fodder up front instead of Gabbiadini (who has turned out to be glorified fodder anyway) and go 3-5-2 all the time.

Has anyone seen Nacho's goal for Real?
What are the rules on early free kicks? Sevilla were just beginning to set up their wall, but he took it and scored.

      Refs whistle, for most teams.

I think so as well, but I don't think refs whistle in early middle of the pitch free kicks.

The only requierments for a whistle start from a dead ball are kickoff and a penalty.

As long as the ball is stationary and in the right place then the attacking team can take it as quickly as they like.

They normally whistle for CFKs, Ceremonial free kicks. Thats when:

        1. Yellow/red card had been handed out prior to the kick.
        2. A trainer was required to come on to the field.
        3. The attacking team asks for the distance of 10 yards be enforced.

If the ref blew the whistle it's fair game to hit it whether the defense is ready or not. Mignolett got caught out by a Luiz free kick couple of months back

      1. Pariße
        • 9 Years
        7 years, 4 months ago

But Liverpool's wall was set up already, Mignolet got caught because he didn't even see Luiz running to the ball as it looked like Willian was ready to take it, ref's blown already. I don't think he did in Nacho's case.

the team taking the free are not obliged to wait for the other team to set up.

      1. Pariße

There must be something in the rules though, the defending team asks the ref for a permit or something to make the set piece taker wait for them to set up.

The ball has to be in the correct spot, which quite frankly wasn't the case, so it was an error by the referee. This can easily be seen by the fouled player laying on the ground far away from the ball.

If the referee has to line up the wall, he is supposed to point on his whistle and the attacking team has to wait. You just have to assume that the free kick will be taken quickly before that happens.

    Costa
    Hazard
Sanchez - more assured now Liverpool have won so convincingly?
    Every United player?

    Begovic
    JT - Cahill - Ake
    Azpi - Fab - Kante - Alonso

Willian Batshuayi in place of Hazard Costa if Conte decides to give them rest or Batman and Willian can come in for them in after 65-70 minutes as subs.

Although I own him and captained him, I have to ask for his no show or blank and a Sun CS to catch my rival as he TCed Sanchez and I have Pickford. Can't see it happening though!

He was always going to be ok. Sanchez loves to become a drama queen when the game is won.

Not nailed, no. They have nothing to play for.

Swansea will be playing without the shackles of relegation and will be really enjoying themselves.

It has been a tough season and the players will want to put a show on, and the fans will want to thank them for paying for 3000 tickets for the Sunderland game.

Llorente had developed a cult like affinity with the fans, may get sold

        Llorente will get a brace

All of that might be true, but there is a doubt with any team who has nothing to play for.

100% nailed - as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow Llorente will lead the line in the last game of the season for the Swans and take the plaudits from the Jack Army.

He will also get a brace - book mark this 🙂

Got the exact cash to do Sanchez out for Coutinho and Gabbi out for Vardy.. Bit worrying to get rid of Sanchez but good for a -4?

      0.3 ITB

      Caballero Pickford
      Monreal Holding Stones Stephens Yoshi
      Erik Alli King Haz Sanchez
      Kane Jesus Gabbi

They all have pretty decent fixtures in midfield.
