The ScoutCast – Episode 231 – Eavesdrop

This is a very strange experience.

Denied the opportunity to host this week’s ScoutCast by BT’s shortcomings and with the Wildcard active, I am forced to join you and eavesdrop while my decision-making is torn apart by Andy, Jonty, Az and Luke. I have to admit, it’s pretty tortuous.

It’s like my hands are firmly fastened to the couch while the quartet lapdance* their critique around me. How I want to get “involved”.

Aside from appraising my “ill-timed” Wildcard, the boys tackle your other community questions.

They consider the Liverpool double-up, question whether midfield coverage can replace either Kane and Lukaku, debate whether Alonso is essential and then look at how fixtures can shape cheap defensive acquisitions.

I’m pretty sure they answer them all exactly as I would. In fact, listening back, they appear to justify my Wildcard for me. I can hardly wait for next week.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

    Foster
    Hegazy/Jones/Cedric
    Salah/Eriksen/Mkhi/Phillips
    Kane/Kaku/Chicharito

    Elliot/Naughton/Carroll/Mbemba

    1FT and 0.0 itb

    Do I need any changes?

      Save FT. Looking good.
Can't see Philip setting the world on fire but impossible to have 11 good ones it's always 9 or 10 🙂

pretty solid, Mbemba out for months is a problem, also hegazi might not be a starter in another week..possibly this week even.

Mbemba is a waste and you should cash Hegazi in as he's not nailed. Naughton will end up playing every week in that squad.

I think i'd take a hit to lose Mbemba and Phillips for a playing defender, and maybe Brady in midfield.

Rp from earlier as I got nothing =/ so what do you all think on my W.C team and I cant not have Alonso or hazard haha

    Foster
    Alonso/Davies/Cedric
    Mane/Erikson/Hazard/Brady
    Firmino/Lukaku

    Elliot/Chalobah/Lowe/9.8m for the last 2

    Any ideas?

Good squad. So you want a 5.5 striker - Abraham, and a 4.5 defender - Naughton.

Ok I get it. Jones and 4.5 fodder up front and leave some ITB.

I am not for 3 up front normally. But might be too many big hitters up front this year. If you are happy to captain Lukaku each week all good. But Lukaku fixtures will turn within a few weeks.

    Fabiański
    Alonso, Suttner, Lowe
    Alli, Mane, Pogba, Atsu
    Lukaku(c), Morata, Chicharito

    Elliot, Carroll, Ake, Mbemba

1FT, 1.4itb. Any moves you suggest guys?

    a) Ake > Jones
    b) Ake, Chicharito > Naughton, Firmino -4
    c) some other move
    d) save FT

    My defence is as follows:

    Danilo
    Kolasnic
    Stephens
    Suttner
    Long

Do I need to make a change or will 3 of these play?

I have 0.5m in the bank.

WC with differentials, Pickford and Holgate to be used after GW 5 so their yellow flag is not a problem. Any opinions appreciated.

    Elliot (Pickford)
    Maguire, Vertonghen, Dunk (Holgate, 4.0)
    Ozil, Mahrez, Alli, Antonio (Cork)
    Kane, Firmino, Wood

Captaincy between Kane and Ozil havent decided yet, 0 itb. Thoughts?

Ozil? I think you've lost your mind.

Differentials are differentials for a reason. High scoring players become template.

Vertonghen has the least goal threat of any of the Spurs defenders.

But it is your team of course, do as you wish.

Only three weeks in, not enough time for sensible decision making teams to be beating random luck teams.

But yeah, many different ways to play this game.

Cheers everyone for your replies, i know the risk is high but dont want to have the same team as everyone. Liv and Mun mids are very popular here but CL games mean rotation for me. There is a reason why i picked each one of those. Good luck everyone and thanks again

    Morning!
Probably will save this week however which moves would you consider for GW5??

    Foster
    Bavies/Cedric/Jones
    Mane/Eriksen/Miki/TC
    Kane/Kaku(c)/Chica

    Elliot/Chalobah/Lowe/Mbemba

    0.5ITB 1FT

  7. Banana Boat

    Forster (Elliot)
    Jones, Hegazi, Stephens (Stones, Moreno)
    Eriksen, Pogba, Tadic, Atsu (Carroll)
    Lukaku, Firmino, Chicharito

    1 FT, 6.0 ITB

Is it ok to save the FT or should I be spending the money in this scenario because its so much sitting on the sidelines? It's most likely a Kane or Hazard fund but I'd prefer both next week which is causing the problem

    Gtg?
    Foster/Myhill
    Hegazi/Bertrand/Mee(Lascelles/Hunemeir)
    Alli/Pogba/Willian/Atsu(RLC)
    Kane/Lukaku/Benteke

Any suggestions? Was going to do benteke to ? but keep getting turned by the '1 game to save Frank's job' so might swap him to Firminho next week

    Two decisions
    Play
    1. Suttner
    2. Carrol
Even with Siigy gone I can't see Carrol doing much. Brighton could get a CS and Suttner has previous for attacking. So thinking option1, but he is full back now not wing back.

    Captain
    A. Kane
    B. Chicarito

On A right now. Stubborn stupidity to go A or I should punt on B?

      Two things
A WC is not for 1 week. The rewards should come in the short to medium term.

I have 9 away this week lots of players in the same boat. Last season when I had a similar home / away imbalance the away weeks were often a nice surprise and the plum home weeks a total let down. You just don't know.

I just wonder if Coutinho is going to take points away from Mane, whereas there's no such issue at Spurs.

thinking about saving FT - thoughts?
Team is not ideal, but can't figure out anything promising without a hit or two...

      DDG
      Bertrand - Stephens - Suttner
      Eriksen - Willian - Ramsey - T.Carroll
      Kane - Lukaku - Firmino

      Elltio - Fraser - Daniels - Long

      1 FT
      bank: 0.5

Courtois is obviously not bringing in Hazard this week.

Discovered a pretty amazing stat from football history...

Lev Yasmin is estimated to have saved over 150 penalties... 270 clean sheets

He's saving a penalty every 3 games, and keeping a clean sheet in 2 out of 3.

No wonder he won the Balon D'or

400 appearances. 0.67 clean sheets per game.

Indeed, but the rates of pen saves and CS's are remarkable for just 400 games. His defence must have given away a serious amount of penalties though for him to save one every 3 games on average.

I guess shootouts may have been more common?

On the contrary, they didn't have shoot-outs in those days. Proper pens only!

Anyone captaining Chicharito? Nice differential, yet somewhat safe.

Don't understand his appeal in the slightest. Wouldn't bring in and definitely wouldn't captain.

He's a nailed on striker with 2 goals in 3 games up against a poor defensive side (so far) at home.

I don't particularly rate him either, but some merit to picking him with their run coming up. If West Ham were so doggo I'd consider him.

I certainly would describe it as 'safe'. Hammers in turmoil and uncomfortable in their new stadium.

And how is Huddersfield "a poor defensive side (so far)"?

Yeah these points as well. Huddersfield are laughing and will probably be looking to go and win.

For some reason I had it in my head they were playing Bournemouth. My bad. Still a decent fixture. Huddersfield well organised, Lossl has been great so far. Don't expect a 4th cleanie in a row, but you never know.

West Ham need to win, or surely Slaven is gone.

If West Ham were good, then maybe, but they're so poor and all over the place at the moment. His chance of a haul is going to be near zero as there's no way Bilic is going to risk losing his job by playing open and attacking football. A cagey 1-0 win would be his dream scenario at the moment.

I'd never pick Chicharito as captain unless he turns into King from last season.

Good idea to do as follows?

      GW4: Kompany -> Jones
      GW5: Jesus -> Kane
      GW6: Stephens -> VVD

Looks good but I don't think you will have the luxury of waiting til 6 to lose Stephens.

GW4-5 is okay, but GW6 is too unknown at this time. Hoedl (?sp) might be nailed by then.
