Dugout Discussion – Bournemouth vs Brighton

The Gameweek begins with a Friday night clash under lights at the Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth host south coast rivals Brighton in what is already a vital match for the home side.

Eddie Howe’s Cherries are simply in dismal form. They have suffered four successive defeats and have just a single goal to their name – albeit a goal of the season contender from Fantasy favourite Charlie Daniels.

Impotent in attack, Howe’s defence have also allowed 30 shots on target, more than any other side.

Such statistics will give Chris Hughton’s Brighton plenty of confidence heading into the contest, having sealed their first ever Premier League victory in Gameweek 3 with a 3-1 win over West Brom.

Pascal Gross inspired that performance with an 18-point haul made up of two goals and an assist. Fantasy managers will be fixed on his display in the number ten role tonight as the main point of interest.

Indeed, the match provides a sedate introduction to Gameweek 5, with few Fantasy assets on show.

The aforementioned Daniels is the top owned player in action. Still part of 12.7% of squads, the left-back has been sold by more than 222,000 managers over the last three Gameweeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Only 2 Surman owners in LMS

https://fantasy.premierleague.com/a/team/827372/event/5 got him on WC 🙂
    The other benched him.

Good, was worried that he might have clung on in more of the serious-minded teams.

BTW, is there a good, neutral term to describe those of us who are the opposite of "casuals"? Actually, forget neutral, I don't mind anything insulting, just so long as it is short and instantly clear.

More chance of Firmino getting a rest than Kane. Klopp said that in his presser that he'd freshen things up. I'm a Firmino owner too but can't see past Kane (C) this week.

Thoughts on this sort of WC?

    Fabianski / Elliot
Kolasinac / Davies / Simpson (Mee)
Eriksen / Mkhitaryian / Alonso / Gross (Carroll / RLC)
    Kane / Morata / Firmino

    Simpson and Mee to rotate.

Should I cop the price drop of Stephens or should I make my transfer now for next week? Thinking of biting the bullet now as they have Man UTD and I'm planning to WC next intentional break anyway.
Have 1 FT and 0.1 cash, so would be looking for the best option for 2 weeks before I WC?

What's more accurate for predicting price changes, FPL Statistics or Fantasy Football Fix? I've been using Fix since last season and it's been good but seeing more people mentioning Statistics in the last few days? Has one dealt better with the different thresholds this year?

I raise my hand but to ask a question.."Shouldn't price predictions and price changes be announced on the official FPL website". I think is crazy that there is no explanation on how price changes work on the official website itself. And even crazier that you have to vist a third party website to find out about them.

FPL has a "price rise/fall round" tab in the transfer page.

As for explanation as to how they work, even 3rd party websites aren't even close to 100% accurate.

I'm loving the new price change algorithm. In previous seasons most of the players were never in the game. With the new aggressive rate of price drops the player pool to choose from is much larger and the game much more interesting.

I bought Firmino last GW and Salah two GWs before. These both along with Kane and Jesus have increased my team value by 4. How can you not understand such a simple thing?

Jesus played 90 in midweek so I reckon there is a real chance Sane starts ahead of him

That was the reasoning behind me selling him. Felt wrong though, will get him back soon.

I considered losing him for Morata myself, but he's fun to own, and one of the best players to watch in the league... I don't wanna root against him if that makes sense 😉

Absolutely, that's why I said it felt wrong. In the long term I'm probably going with Kane and Jesus and no Lukaku.

I sold him for Kane. It was probably the right thing to do with captaincy coming into the equation.

Definitely a concern. Also could be Sterling. But Jesus has started 12/14 premier league games he's played. He came off the bench for his debut and his return for the broken foot, so I won't borrow stress until it happens.

On the Özil price drop - it seems like most of Arsenal's key FPL assets have been overpriced this season. I'd say Sánchez, Özil & Lacazette were £0.5m too much from day 1. The defenders too. Ramsey & Kolasinac seem fairly priced though to be fair.

    1. Scratch
      • 15 Years
      7 years, 6 days ago

Probably right, though lack of CL football could come into play when fatigue begins setting in over congested periods

Especially when Arsenal have a nice fixture run lined up, they're as good flat-track bullies as pretty much any top club.

      1. Football Weekender
        • 8 Years
        7 years, 6 days ago

True, the no Champions League is a big plus for their assets.

Sánchez was never in my thoughts given the speculation this summer but I would've given serious consideration to Özil & Lacazatte if they had started £0.5m cheaper. As it was, I immediately dismissed them. Only ever considered Kolasinac & Ramsey.

    2. Pierce34
      • 9 Years
      7 years, 6 days ago

Agreed on Ozil. Not on Sanchez though - he scored 264 points with 24 goals and 10 assists. That's 12m+ kind of output.

      1. Scratch
        • 15 Years
        7 years, 6 days ago

The fact that they signed a centre forward capable of actually playing football hurts Sanchez' prospects as wide a player playing with a price tag reflecting his output when playing at forward last season though

      2. Football Weekender
        • 8 Years
        7 years, 6 days ago

True, but I thought maybe they would take the speculation into account. I guess FPL Towers don't consider off the field factors.

    3. goriuanx
      • 14 Years

Although both are good players, I'd like to know what made FPL towers price Lacazette .5 more than Morata.

        • 8 Years

I said exactly this earlier. I don't get it at all. If anything, you could argue that Morata is more proven than Lacazette.

Okay, I also want to keep this place family-friendly. If I am right (but honest/fair/not-so-bad), just tell me, and I can be more nice-nice. Don't want to be an ogre, and if I am being an ogre, be brutal or be nice about it, and let me know. I suspect I just used naughty (if honest) words, is all.

No, it balances out the whole game. Else, if you're on a roll, you can keep banking transfers and will just go from strength to strength. Forced usage of a FT is like a gut check and can potentially force you into a bad decision.
