Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Lukaku and Lingard Seal Victory

First-half goals from Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard were just enough for Manchester United to claim victory at The Hawthorns, as a Gareth Barry strike for West Brom broke the hearts of David De Gea’s growing army of Fantasy owners.

Lukaku’s towering header from a Marcus Rashford cross gave the Belgian back to returns for the first time since Gameweek 7.

Backed by 819,000+ (14.9%) with the captaincy, Lukaku has now scored three in his past four appearances in all competitions.

Together with two bonus points, an eight-point return for the striker means that he is finally showing signs of turning the corner and reviving his stock as a premium-priced option.

Lukaku increased his ownership for the first time since Gameweek 7 prior to the meeting with the Baggies. But he had shed over 1.4 million over those ten previous Gameweeks.

Improved form, coupled with Man United’s fixtures could now help him reclaim some of those numbers.

Lukaku will face Leicester City next weekend, before Old Trafford encounters with Burnley and Southampton. That final home encounter falls in Gameweek 21, the blank for Harry Kane.

Lingard the Pogba alternative

Elsewhere in United’s attack, it is Jesse Lingard who has shown promise as a cut-price midfield option.

Valued at just 5.9 in FPL, Lingard again started in the No 10 role, flanked by Juan Mata and Rashford. His deflected strike from a Mata lay-off took him to four goals from his last three away matches.

Lingard claimed the maximum bonus points to give him a third double-figure return in five Gameweeks.

He is perhaps unfortunate that he has timed his ascent as a Fantasy prospect just as Paul Pogba returns to the equation.

The Frenchman – now down to 7.9 and 9.0% ownership in FPL – is back from suspension for the midweek EFL Cup tie at Bristol City, though he will likely be saved instead for the trip to the King Power Stadium.

Pogba averages 7.0 points per match and will doubtless be a key transfer target over the festive period.

He is already the fourth most-signed midfielder ahead of Gameweek 19, and his return to the United starting line-up could change the dynamic of their attack. This impacts on Lingard’s minutes and his current scoring rate requires monitoring.

Valencia blow as De Gea is denied

Gareth Barry’s second-half strike dragged West Brom back into Sunday’s contest and deprived Man United and David De Gea an eleventh clean sheet of the campaign.

The Spaniard still made four saves at The Hawthorns and has now produced at least one save point in seven of his last nine Gameweeks.

Mourinho kept faith with a back four having deployed a three-man defence in previous away matches.

That saw Phil Jones retain his start alongside Chris Smalling, with that pair seemingly the first choice centre-back partnership. It was the first time that Jones has started two matches within seven days this season.

Both Marcos Rojo and Victor Lindelof were on the bench but will likely get minutes at Bristol City and at least one of the four Gameweek outings to come.

Rojo did see action in the second period, replacing an injured Antonio Valencia who limped off on 65 minutes to claim a clean sheet for his 17.6% ownership. The Ecuadorian is now back at the top of the defender standings, though Mourinho confirmed post-match that the right-back had sustained a hamstring problem.

“This is what I call a December injury. It is an injury of accumulation of fatigue. It is a muscular one. Hamstring. Big, small, medium, I don’t know.”

However, Valencia was quick to play down concerns via social media earlier this evening, going on to say.

“Thanks for your support and concern. I am fine”.

Although that offers hope of a quick recovery, given how key he is to Mourinho’s plans, it’s perhaps unlikely that United will take any chances with Valencia and the Portuguese yet protect him over the Christmas fixtures. Valencia is yet to miss a Premier League appearance this season.

Depending on the prognosis, that could open the way for a number of options, including Rojo, Matteo Darmian (5.0) and even Luke Shaw (4.9) given that Ashley Young could be switched to the right to cover.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

all are good transfers, but WBA seems to try to get cs as Leicester don´t so maybe b (c is also good by the way)

i think smalling is a good bet, Pogba could wait as his price not going up for a week anyway. With Uniteds run of fixture i think a defender alongside pogba is a viable strategy. He plays and they got lots of cleanies and he is involved in assists and goals.

They're all good moves... the problem is that they all cost money. In my opinion:

A- good, if Foster is your only playing keeper
B- good with Jones, but may or may not be a priority, depending on the rest of the defence
C- great fun, but Richarlison could punish you big time

Hey guys, thinking to do RLC + Kane to Sterling + Bony (or any 7m or less fwd). Will give me a midfield of Sterling-Salah-Coutinho-Hazard-Richarlison.

I’d say Ogbonna. Feel like Creswell more likely to be shifted to wingback when Fonte back (and Masuaku dropped), as opposed to Ogbonna losing his spot.

Masuaku probably has more attacking threat though

Morning all. In a bit of a pickle. Got an okay score (and have a good team on paper) this week but have no City attackers for Bournemouth and a LOT of deadwood:

    Pope.
    Alonso. Azpi. Otamendi. Jones. Masuaku.
    Salah. Coutinho. Richarlison.
    Kane. Morata.

Subs: Elliott. Gross. Choupo. Niasse. 0ITB. 1FT.

Thinking of ditching the 2 point merchants Gross and Choupo..

Who should leave to fund it?
    A) Kane
    B) Morata

    Means something like Morata + Gross + Choupo -> Sterling + Sane/Silva/Pogba + Quaner (-8)

Should pay itself back, especially if I captain Sterling for BOU.

I really feel like they are going to destroy Bournemouth 5 or 6 nil. Want at least 1 for that game.

Not sold on Loftus but he's good bench fodder.'

Thanks for the feedback, probably isn't worth selling Morata for a -8.

Firstly. Do you want Kane for the Dgw? If so i would probably keep. Would downgrade one of your premium defenders to upgrade midfield. Based on form probably Azpi out.

This is downgrading Azpi isn't enough so I'd have to do an additional move like Niasse to Quaner to fund the mid upgrade. Also I'd only have 1 City mid which probably isn't worth it for a -8.

Is is realistic to expect this if Valencia out for any amount of time.
Young swaps to the other side and Shaw plays. Would be a gift at that price.

      it´s a minefield

Darmian and Rojo both alternatives, even Blind. He opted for Rojo yesterday but that could be because Mou thought he was better suited vs West Brom, but that is the thing, you would never know. At 4.9 he would be steal if nailed, but as long as Mou is manager he won´t be is my naggering feeling.

Never go for -8, except injuries. Firmino away, Alonso 5th yellow (probably out for Karabao cup), Sterling maybe playing in Karabao

        - Pool are known for turning up to big games
        - Alonso will miss the Karabao cup which is actually a good thing
        - Sterling will be rested
        - Peter played a -12 last GW and he's top of the HOF

Salah tempting to captain against Arsenal for his lethal counter attacking ability but Everton are woeful defensively which makes me tempted to put it on Hazard

Sterling perhaps a bit overlooked. Bournemouth can only play one way...attacking and that plays into Man City's hands perfectly

No-one is overlooking Sterling. Most transferred in. I think both are good picks. What's putting me off Pool mids is Arsenal's home record. Remember when we all captained Kane?

Arsenal are good at the back with Mustafi there but Liverpool are one of the best teams attacking wise against teams that do not park the bus

A smart Wenger would slow the game down but historically he attacks against Liverpool

Sterling has started 8 PL games in a row and will be the most transferred in player this week, that curse is real people, don't play with it.

Which Spurs assets are you planning to get for the DGW?

Kane looks essential, with the TC chip a viable option.

That leaves 2 spots which would normally go to 1 attacker and 1 defender. However, nobody in the Spurs defence really appeals. The 4 fullbacks rotate, so that probably rules them out, and Sanchez/Vert offer minimal goal threat and have a very low PPG (3.0/3.3). Lloris couls be a shout at 5.5m, but the Spurs defence just doesn't look the same without Aldy back there.

I'm therefore eyeing a triple up in attack, Son, Eriksen & Kane. All in. Or rather, Alli out.

Already have Kane, will get Vertonghen as the most nailed defender - with those 2 fixtures, I don't need goal threat as 12pts would do very nicely. May also do Hazard > Eriksen for the week provided Haz doesn't explode and rocket in value before then.

0FT right now so not looking to do these this week, but really want a Man Utd defensive option somewhere. So...

    A) DDG + 4.4 DEF
    B) Pope + Jones (+ 0.2)
    C) Other combo
    D) Mbemba to cheap playing DEF, keep rest for a rainy day

    Current defence and GK:

    Pope - Elliot
    Ota - Christensen - Zanka - Yedlin - Mbemba

Only plan on playing 3 of the defence at once.

        ota
        hazard-salah-silva
        kane--morata

all have delivered except these two
fine with kane becoz we dont have much options

faced with the same dilemma last night i opted to sell Hazard for KDB , my thinking was that there's not many reliable striker options atm , including Morata , but at least he's a better option than most so i might as well keep him

Tried to be clever and got burnt. Captain DDG. Firstly lost points, but never again do I want to be wishing for one of my players not to score (Salah & hazard) and for one to keep a clean sheet. It felt unnatural and unpleasant.

Will probably get rid of Niasse after the Everton game tonight. Who's a better option from Huddersfield given I will be playing them in the next 5 (sot, STO, BUR, lei, WHU)

    A) Quaner + 0.7 ITB
    B) Depoitre + 0 ITB
