The ScoutCast – Episode 245 – Conjury

The first ScoutCast of 2018 is sprinkled with a festive catch-up, an assessment of the latest transfer bandwagons and even some logic-defying magic.

YouTube viewers will need to pay close attention to Granville and Jonty about 1 minute and 56 seconds in to catch their conjuring trick; others will just have to use their imagination and be content with the rest of this 90-minute marathon episode.

We explore the lure of Aguero, the clamour for Lingard and the Fantasy freak of nature that is Marcos Alonso. Third striker options are assessed, we conduct a post-mortem on Liverpool following Coutinho’s exit and we start hatching plans for February’s forthcoming blank before the usual Gameweek preview ends proceedings.

Next week Granville saws Jonty in half and Az pulls a rabbit out of his hipster beard.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

Hey why has Salah not dropped in price? This has kind of scuppered my plans to get him back in

Same, it's ridiculous he hasn't dropped by 0.2 or 0.3 let alone 0.1.

Is there a reason though? I remember some players get flagged when they return from injury or something but I don't understand why he has not dropped at least 0.2.

I fundamentally disagree - you sound like someone who sold him. You should have had a look a the maths (and fixtures)

Disagree with what? I asked for a reason. How can you disagree with a question?

And yes i sold him columbo.

    2. Old Man

Because the very many people who kept him realised that he wouldn't be out for very long. He had such huge ownership, so even the high number of sales was relatively no big thing.

        6 years, 10 months ago

Can you define 'no big thing'? How many sales does it take for a drop then? It used to be a certain % of his overall ownership isnt it? Hard to imagine that that % wasn't reached. FPL stats have him at 400% to drop.

When did you last look at FPL stats? He's at -98.6 as I look at my FPL stats tab. Salah is still owned ob half of all managers!

I actually was looking at fantasyfootballfix. It s showing 400% so its obviously not reliable. I may start using fpl stats again.

Ill just buy him again anyway, hes gold

Someone mentioned (TM) that FFFix is broken.
It does appear that the FPL algorithm is not a linear calculation. Players with a huge ownership appear to be "relatively" immune to sales. Didn't Lukaku have a similar story earlier in the season? (But he was playing like a donkey and not producing so he kept falling)
I'm not totally unsympathetic to your plight, but it's just part of this crazy FPL world we live in.

He was only ever going to drop 0.1 max.

Unless a long term injury. You must always keep highly owned players

      It’s surprising tbh.

He’s been sold by 10% of FPL.

That 10% includes free hits and WC

It's beyond belief that he's not dropped 0.1-0.2 minimum. It will be interesting to see the percentage ownership he reverts to, once the free hits are discounted from last wk. Even if 220k out of the 700k are WC/FH'ers, he's dropped more than enough owners to warrant a drop in price...all ''tis is doing is stoking the likelihood of him reaching 10.5 by February...

If you follow price changes regularly it won't be long before you notice there's no consistency in the changes. Some players rise/drop quickly, others don't. This is why no one has ever been able to crack the 'secret' formula FPL use. Also, I don't believe the wildcard/free hit argument is the answer every time.

FPL is all about preparation. We need a week or two to decide how to set teams up.
City is more than likely a banker to miss GW28. So I am already 2/3 players down. Especially if I get Aguero in for next week.

Are ANY price changes happening this week? FFFix has been predicting that a number of players in my team will rise/drop every day this fortnight, but they have all just stayed the same price

FFFix apparantly not able to deal with WC'in and FH chip's. But handy that they report % rise/hour. But for absolute thresholds, use fplstats, although they also will have to correct for WC'ers after the fact.

I'd say Lingard over Arnautovic, he's in red hot form and the fixtures wouldn't matter much. Arnautovic can make reckless challenges at times, so there's always the risk of him getting booked.

When will FFS put out a guide or an article on the blanks? Is it too early or do we need to start planning?

Crellin's multiple spreadsheets are too complex to follow with their colour coding and their 2 decimal point percentages.

This is exactly the point - side ways transfers involving bringing in City or Utd players of say, Son to Lingard are a risk, especially for a hit, this week.

If you have Liverpool and Spurs hold them this week, even Arnie etc., certainly don’t swap them this week for players that may blank in 28

Any FPL authority can read them quite easily. There could be no blanks so best wait for the 2nd legs.

There will be one blank with Arsenal and Chelsea playing each other in the semi ?

If Arsenal won, that game could move to the midweek.

Are you 100% sure or is that just a guess, if so why won’t both be moved ?

The midweek is for FA replays, Arsenal out helps.
It's a possibility depending on results.

Ok, just checked and neither Southampton nor Man U had fixtures during the midweek after their 2017 League Cup Final and were not asked to play their cancelled PL games during the mid week thereafter.

No matter what happens there will be one blank involving either Arsenal & City or Utd & Chelsea, and a good chance of all 4 teams having a blank ... all will be revealed next week and let’s hope for the worst 🙂

Man Utd's postponed game was Man City, and they had a re-arranged cup-tie v Huddersfield, so that wouldn't have gone ahead anyway. Soton could have played Arsenal, though.

I think the PL pretty much wait until GW 36 and GW37 to mop up these postponed fixtures - don’t think I have ever seen them rescheduled for the midweek?

Seems unfair on the players, fans, clubs and just about every one involved

Do you think the game(s) will be played mid week ?

I think the reason they don't schedule them for this particular midweek is that there's always the possibility that both clubs involved could be knocked out of the FA Cup - making FACR5 day the obvious choice. For revenue purposes the clubs involved would much rather reschedule the game on a free Saturday than shoehorn it in midweek later in the season. Better for the fans, better for the players too.

A bit too early for detail but an overview with the emphasis on transfer policy would be useful, or a hot topic in the mean time that identifies GW28, 31 abd 35 as the blanks

There are so many WC teams and hits on here that are FPL suicide ...

I’m sure FFS will have something on the blanks soon but it’s wise to start putting a plan together now.

Don’t agree about Crellin’s spreadsheets, they’re pretty straightforward and much appreciated, the guy deserves a medal 🙂

Really struggling who to start as my third defender from Mee, Dunk & Ogbonna. Switching between the three constantly. Any convincing arguments as to who should get the nod?

Not much in it. Who has more chance of a goal? Dunk for me as he’s looks quite dangerous and wba are poor for headed attempts against

Agree that Dunk has the biggest goal threat. I’d say all three fixtures are the same, it’s tough.

Mee - plays in the best defensive unit of the three in my opinion

Dunk - biggest goal threat, second best defence of the three

Ogbonna - bookies have West Ham as the most likely of the three to keep a clean sheet, already scored this season whereas the other two haven’t

I this situation I'd go for the biggest upside. If they all kept clean sheets who would be most likely to score/assist/get bonus. The order for me is
      Dunk > Mee > Ogbonna
      (where > means greater than)

I agree that Dunk would be a logical choice and the best out of all the options because of his attacking threat.
Mee faces a Crystal Palace team high on confidence, so there's every chance of conceding a goal even though Palace have some injuries.
Ogbonna doesn't look as good on paper because of Huddersfield playing so well at home.

Have funds to go Otamendi to Alonso and expect Liverpool to score this weekend. Would you bench Otamendi or rather transfer him out for a hit?

With Stones and Kompany back I fear Otamendi may be rotated a bit, plus considering tripling up on City attackers. Sterling, KdB n Aguero

I’m thinking Aguero or Kane. Maybe a hit to get Ciaran Clark?
