The ScoutCast – Episode 247 – Frankenstein

Granville created the monster that is the template squad – only for it to turn on him.

That delicious analogy sums up the latest Gameweek for the ScoutCast team, as our mediocre scores were left dwarfed by those who dared to break from the norm to turn to the unlikely differential that was Sergio Aguero.

This latest episode conducts a full post-mortem, as the aforementioned Granville is joined by Jonty, Andy, and Az to contemplate another #Kanexit scenario with the clamour for Man City “nostalgia pick” intensifying.

I miss out with flu. The kind that creates bleary-eyed selfies in Swansea City centre Marriot hotels. But unlike Kane’s notorious Gameweek 22, I fail to make a 17-minute appearance, and instead listen in while the quartet tackle more community questions, creating their own motley crew of characters along the way.

In the midfield chat, Az spits bile in the direction of “JLings”, while Jonty fancies Shaqiri “Ironside” as a poor man’s Hazard. Lukasz “Lidl” Fabianksi turns up in the debate on goalkeepers, while the team are unanimous on the fate of Andreas “The Curse” Christensen.

NB: this ScoutCast was recorded prior to confirmation that Manchester City’s fixture with Arsenal is likely to remain in Gameweek 28. Oh, and Az was off the mark when he said that City play Basel after West Brom, that first leg tie follows the Gameweek 27. Don’t panic Aguero owners. Leave that to the rest of us.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

    Wenger ON MKHITARYAN

One player that Arsene Wenger has of course captured is Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Speaking about his new man, Wenger said:

"He is a great footballer. I will know more about him in 2-3 days as we prepare and find out the best position for him. "It doesn’t look like there will be any problems."

    Will he play against Swansea?

    "I haven’t decided yet.

"We will decide on Monday but he is available."

Arsenal 'not close' to signing anyone - Wenger

Swansea v Arsenal (Tues, 19:45 GMT)

Injury news from Arsene Wenger, who says Olivier Giroud, who has not played for the first team since 19 December, will be in the squad for Tuesday's visit to Swansea, but it is "too early" for Danny Welbeck to return.

Wenger adds that despite reports, Giroud was never part of any deal to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund.

Asked about transfers he says: "It’s still possible, we are far from being closed. I don’t give you any special name but at the moment we are not close to signing anybody.

"If nobody comes in, nobody goes out, maybe one or two young players out on loan."

    Better combination?

    A) Pogba and Walcott
    B) Mahrez and Shaqiri
    C) Pogba and Shaqiri
    D) Mahrez and Fraser/Allen

C and D both allow a defensive upgrade of Kenny to VVD/Monreal, A leaves a 0.1 in the bank, B 0.5, for upgrades.

When looking at the defensive statistics from the past 4 GWs I came across a some interesting data

Chances Conceded from the Right Flank
    Everton - 29
    Swansea - 18
    Burnley - 17
    West Ham - 17

It looks like the right back spot is a significant weakness for the Toffees with them conceding 11 more chances than Swansea who are the next worse team.

Interestingly, the next 5 fixtures see Leicester play eve, SWA and BUR. Should we be considering Albrighton as a replacement for Arnautovic/Lanzini/Willian?

Admittedly, Albrighton does play quite deep at times but at only 5.6 the winger has some serious potential over the next few.

In addition, with Coleman playing for the u23s I think Kenny will be dropped sooner, rather than later.

But were these big chances, did they have high xGs and how many of them led to goals?

We know for instance that Burnley concede large numbers of chances but few goals - it's the way they play, they only allow low quality chances and most of them are then saved or blocked by their goalkeepers and defenders. They have only conceded 21 goals this season, with only United, Chelsea ands City conceding fewer.

Everton however have conceded 39 goals this season, with only Stoke, West Ham, Watford and Huddersfield conceding more. How many of these arose from the right, or is their defence just weak all over?

In the last 4 GWs, Everton have conceded 9 goals in total, Swansea 4 (3 of them against Spurs and Liverpool), Burnley 4 (3 of them against Liverpool and United) and West Ham 4, so it looks as if only Everton of these four teams have a really weak defence.
West Ham have improved and only conceded 12 goals in 10 matches since Adrian took over, compared with the 30 in 14 matches conceded by Hart.

Thinking about upgrading Crouch (4.8) to Diouf (5.4) at a cost of 4 points - I don't have any stoke midfielders or slots spare at present. Do you think that Diouf is now nailed on striker under Lambert and will benefit from both the strong fixtures and midfield supply. Is this a good plan?

Lots of options, but which to do ?

    Adrian / Elliot
    Otamendi / Alonso / Christensen / Ogbonna / Kenny
    Salah / Sterling / Arnie* / Richarlison / Lingard
    Kane / Firmino / DCL

    2FT & 2.1 itb

    A) Arnie & Rich > KDB & Milivojevic
    B) Arnie & Rich > Hazard & Milivojevic
    C) Arnie & Rich > Pogba & Wally/Shaqiri
    D) Arnie, Rich & Firmino > Pogba, Aguero & 4.6 mid (-4)
    E) Arnie, Rich & Kane > Sanchez, Milivojevic & Aguero (-4)
    F) Something else

I didn't consider taking Kane out until yesterday. Option E gives me the captain options of Aguero (WBA) Sanchez (HUD) and Aguero (LEI). I wasn't planning on captaining Kane in the next 3 so maybe taking him out for 3 games is worth the risk?

Similar to my question above. I think the moves I will make will depend on who I want to captain over the next 3.

Aguero & Hazard look best options 25 & 27. Sanchez would be ideal 26. But could get away with Pogba/Mahrez?

So E looks pretty tempting but comes with risks

Hey Jimmy Floyd, yes a lot of uncertainty and risks with any move this week as I feel there is no clear path to take whether to go 343 or 352. Pogba has a tough game this week so don't want to bring him in early. Unsure of getting rid of Kane incase of a haul. So many options and delighted I have FA Cups to wait on too as more injuries may arise forcing my hand.

Is christensen worth picking up ? 5.5 for a chelsea defender is good value. I know he has been hauled off at 57th minute twice but is he nailed for the next 3

Objectively - yes. But don't be surprised if a flying saucer appears and beams him up in the 57th minute against Bournemouth....

He just needs to be subbed on in the 25th minute but go of with an injury in the 84th to complete the set. My money's on that.

I have him, will keep for the next 3 but I wouldn't bring in now. I hope he'll play the next 3 but I'd be surprised with Cahill fit and Luiz on the bench the other night.

There is a mistake in the article. It talks about a player having two free transfers when he has in fact got one having just used his wildcard.
