Salah’s effective ownership balloons as Triple Captains played

It has been a quiet Gameweek in terms of chips used in the top 10k.

Actually, for the first time this season, the most-used is not the Wildcard.

Only 0.62% of them were activated in the top 10k as opposed to 1.15% active Triple Captains.

The vast majority of those were placed on Mohamed Salah (1.05%), with Sadio Mane basically being the only other triple captained player (0.09%).

This is understandable ahead of Liverpool’s Anfield meeting with Fulham’s poor defence on Sunday. The Cottagers have conceded 29 goals this season, more than any other side thus far.

This interest in Liverpool assets is very evident in captaincy polls as well. Salah is the top target with 59.58% while Mane is second with 26.93%.

That raises Salah’s effective ownership to 121.76% being the only player this week with more than 100% average weight in the top 10k.

The closest to him is Eden Hazard with 92.98% and Sergio Aguero with 87.82%.

However, this very high effective ownership of Salah doesn’t actually mean he is in all teams at this bracket.

The Egyptian is actually in just 61.1% of the top 10k squads. Most of them captained him, which is why his effective ownership is almost double his raw ownership.

In fact, Salah is ranked ninth when it comes to basic ownership in the top10k

Ahead of him is Hazard (86.11%), Aguero (85.4%), Marcos Alonso (83.4%), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (77.2%), Andrew Robertson (70%), Marko Arnautovic (69.6%), Richarlison (67.9%) and Callum Wilson (62.4%).

Meanwhile, Marko Arnautovic has emerged as a very popular option amongst the game’s current best managers. Supported by his good form and appealing upcoming fixtures, he is currently the second highest-owned forward in the top10k and was transferred in by 28.6% of these managers this week.

The main fall-guy for him is Aleksandar Mitrovic whose top10k ownership dropped from 37% to just 5.9% in a matter of days.

While Mitrovic’s usefulness was clearly at an end anyway, such a swathe of sales shows the influence of the market. His value was on the fall all week, and these managers may well have also sold him en masse to avoid falling foul of that.

We could possibly see this as a sign that the so-called ‘template team’ can quickly change when it needs to.

For example, if we look at the Wildcard template of this week, we see Arnautovic and Mat Ryan making their way into the active teams.

Meanwhile, the defence options seem to be a bit static at the moment. The usual suspects of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Alonso, Robertson and Benjamin Mendy still lead the way in most squads.

Despite strong upcoming fixtures, the top 10k are yet to really invest in Arsenal attack. Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have effective ownerships of 10.22% and 3.73% respectively, largely on account of such a cluster of value forwards.

On the other hand, while Manchester City the Manchester derby ahead of them, interest in their assets is still very high.

Four Man City players have effective ownerships of higher than 10%, namely Aguero (87.8%), Mendy (56.1%), Ederson (26.5%) and Raheem Sterling (14.1%).

Not surprisingly, if we look at the Premier League teams with the most players per top10k team, we find that Liverpool and Man City are tied in the first place as they both provide 2.1 players per FPL team at that level.

Arsenal are not even in the top 10 sides represented in Fantasy teams in the top 10k.

Chelsea are a close third with 2.0 average players. Wolves, West Ham and Bournemouth provide 1.3, 1.3 and 1.2 players respectively.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool and Man City players will repay the faith of both their football and Fantasy managers this week.

You know it's a weird week so far when the Dream team strike force is Rondon and Gabbiadini and Hart is in goal 😀

Salah captained by around 60% (61% owned) of top 10k and 21% (35% owned) by overall. A bit of a differential if he hauls big time.

    Easy like Sunday morning

    2ft 0.3 itb

    Ederson-Hamer
    DRAM-AWB
    Mo-Haz-Fraser-Barkley-Ward
    Kun-Arnie-Wilson

Feel like I’m happy with the team apart from eternal problem 4th and 5th mid slots. Barkley rumoured to be rested today and Ward didn’t get off bench yesterday.

A)Barkley Ward To Gudmundsson Camarasa. Both nailed and Gudmundsson rotates well with Fraser. Was all ready to do this last night until I saw the slight injury concern to Gudmundsson.
    B) Salah Barkley to Mane Alli
    C) Salah Barkley Mendy to Mane Sterling Balbuena -4
    D) Owt else?

    Any comments welcome

Highest midfield points scorer for his price last season.

Nailed in City team, highest midfield points scorer for his price in the game this season so far, the only attacker that has scored more points in his price range is Ings, more points and more nailed than Brooks ... what more do you want ?

Open you eyes to the casual side 🙂

It’s still a crap pick though.Takes up a valuable City space.Cant believe it took you so long to come up with that garbage Lol.Hows your team doing?

Is that the valuable place currently being taken up by ... err ... Ederson ?

For me, it’s Aguero or Sterling/KdB & Mendy ... after that the third spot is very tricky. I held Ederson for a while but .... he takes up a valuable City place 😉

Once you go past Aguero, Sterling and KdB the City attackers are a lottery.

              Sane 9.4 mill & 49 points
              D Silva 8.5 & 48
              B Silva 7.5 & 46
              Mahrez 6.6 & 41
Fernandinho 5.4 & 41 - yes the same as Mahrez and just 8 points off Sane

So yes, the consensus on here is that Fernandinho is a rubbish casual pick, takes a valuable City spot ... but yet he is better value and nearly matching all the traditional valuable third City spots

But hey, if you don’t like it you can at least say so in a civil manner 😉

It's a bit early for me to suggest transfers..but advice I will give is to avoid bandwagons like Barkley in the future. There was nothing to suggest he was nailed on for even atleast a few weeks when a player with the quality of Kovacic is his competition. Saves you a transfer in and out.

Yes big facepalm to me for Barkley.Watched one game and thought he was the answer.Gudmundsson seems a better choice and means I don’t have to rip up rest of team to get him in as I can do a straight swap.Obviously will wait for possible injury update though.Appreciate your input Nabs ,cheers.

I like Gudmundsson. Very underrated player with a lot of playmaking ability...if Burnley score there's a good chance he's involved. Fixtures are decent and he should tick along nicely at his price.

I get the appeal for Sterling. He is on top form and a great option. But there will be some rotation in coming gameweeks. Sterling will very likely rest one of the upcoming fixtures. Also City have 3 away games in next 4 after United.

Mane won't match Salah's points long term. Value wise he probably will but these are some great fixtures to give the armband for Mo imo. Mane is overperforming while Salah is underperforming based on stats.

Now I understand it if you have 2 FTs. I am more looking GW15 so agree with you completely.

I briefly considered TC. Just wasn't confident enough after watching their last few games. And will consider Hazard GW14 as well. Read Peter's blog post on it and I've seen few of your post. It's a valid strategy this season (more so than last, right?) because of the way DGW and BGW are set.

Good luck to you, I hope he does well.

          • 13 Years

TC in a single GW is always a valid strategy imo, we don't have enough information about the DGWs until very late in the season so there is always a risk with that.

GW15 looks the best time to sell Salah I agree, for GW13, there's not really another big hitter to bring. Kane looks someone to target for Gw15.

Okay, I have only played FPL one season so don't have the experience. Mathematically DGW is better for TC on vacuum (more minutes if nailed captain) but there are so many moving pieces you have to take into account which I'm sure you have so won't get into those 🙂

GW16 might actually be even better. Assuming Kane doesn't hit form before that. Hoping he will, would shake up the template.

Many will say Fraser is a season keeper but I think it's best to cash in and get him if needed at a lower price at later part of the season if needed

Know it's still early but which move looks the best:

    A) Salah and Barkley > Sterling and Martial (-4)
    B) Salah and Barkley > Mane and Martial (-4)
    C) Save FT; do Salah, Barkley and Robertson > Sterling, Mane and Gomez (-4) the week after

    Patricio
    Alonso Robertson Mendy Bennett
    Salah Hazard Richarlison
    Aguero Arnautovic Jimenez

    (Button Barkley AWB Hojbjerg)

Thats true however Fulham know very well they cant win this game so definitely they wont attack.
9 men behind the ball with Salah playing central striker role and pool having being shattered 0-2 by red star
On the other hand everton cant defend and know they can only win via attack - Hazard/Willian MOTM

Team value is below 100m. I had Sanchez until recently (and was captaining him). I kept faith and it was a disaster.

Sterlings 42 breathed abit of hope. If Liverpool lose today 1-0 (I know hugely unlikely) I could be back in this with a Morata masterclass.

Bold. I would've done something in between that and template but at least every gameweek is exiting for you which really can't be said with template teams. Not much moving parts in my 2 money leagues at the moment until template starts shaking up.

I was cut adrift in my ML. I acknowledge you can grind out decent weeks with good captain choices, subs ect but Im impatient and wanted big swings. I've massively risked a big one against me today but I'd rather have a coin toss with heads first and tails last place then finish 25th in my ML. (I realise what I've done isn't literally this but you get the metaphor)
