Is Richarlison or Gylfi Sigurdsson better FPL value at £8.0m?

The release of the Fantasy Premier League price list has seen Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson both priced up as £8.0m midfielders.

Everton sit top of our Season Ticker for the first ten Gameweeks of the season and are the only Premier League side to avoid a ‘big six’ club in their opening half-dozen matches, so interest in the Toffees’ Fantasy assets will be keen.

Both Richarlison and Sigurdsson scored 13 top-flight goals last season and recorded their best-ever FPL points hauls.

Given that the Everton midfield duo can’t be separated by price, we will run a direct statistical comparison in the Members’ article below to weigh up the pros and cons of each asset.

As well as the usual goal threat and creativity comparisons, we’ll be assessing their record against ‘lesser’ sides (given Everton’s favourable run at the start of 2019/20) using our new Flat-Track Bully tool.

    Draft #1:

    Ryan
    Coleman, Zinchenko, van Dijk
    Sterling, Salah, Maddison, Pérez
    Firmino, Jiménez, Ings

    Button, 4.5 mid, 4.5 def, 4.0 def.

    0.0 ITB.

Zinchenko vs Mendy is going to be a very tricky one to gauge and that's enough for me to avoid. 1st time I've seen Firmino too.

I like the double captaincy strategy with S and S.

Don't really need to "gauge" Mendy/Zinky. Just put Mendy in for now, and if Zinky plays the Community Shield do a switch and save 0.5.

If Zinchenko isn't playing, my plan is Pérez > Townsend to afford a 6.0 def.

Anyone picking Chelsea defenders (Luiz or Azpi) in their first drafts? A lot of uncertainty of course, but reasonable fixtures and proven performers.

Not considering them until I see how they set up, where Zouma is and what price he gets, and most importantly whether they return to a back 3 to get the best out of Alonso.

Yep - I currently have Luiz. But that puts me in a minority as all Chejsea defenders are 10% owned at best

Aside from that Mou season they’ve consistently delivered under a range of managers.

Part of my thinking is to get premium defenders in from a range of clubs. It’ll change of course but this big back 6 has Everton Liverpool City Chelsea Spurs - plenty of attacking potential and minimal exposure to double ups - consistent cs feel probable.

      Lloris/Ederson
      Vvd TAA Luiz Digne Mendy/Trippier

I think it depends on what you do with your other LIV/MCI spots, and how the funds balance out. Right now, I think Salah/KDB + to LIV defs and Laporte/Ederson looks like the best option. But 3 x LIV defenders and no Salah could be the way to fund Kane.

I’m waiting on Mo to get over Afcon and hoping KdB returns to fitness in which case he could be brilliant value paired with Mo.

Siggy is just a very consistent player who averages around 5pts per 90 mins. He has played for three PL clubs and played well for all of them.

    13/14: 72 pts in 1276 mins = 5.07 pts per 90
    14/15: 154 pts in 2682 mins = 5.17 pts per 90
    15/16: 158 pts in 2914 mins = 4.89 pts per 90
    16/17: 181 pts in 3327 mins = 4.90 pts per 90
    17/18: 96 pts in 2257 mins = 3.83 pts per 90
    18/19: 182 pts in 3122 mins = 5.25 pts per 90

I’ve started with Siggy, but pre season will tell more about set pieces, direct free kicks, and most importantly pens.

That said, not averse to Richarlison, or even the potential double up. That would mean downgrading Digne and finding another 0.5 from defence to upgrade a 7.0 mid.

That's what I thought. A false nine is when they play a midfielder who can't do holdup play at 9. Richarlison is more of a traditional 9 when he plays up there.

Just how fitness mad is Hassenhutl? Apparently he loves a really high energy pressing game so personally I’m intruiged to see them in the early gameweeks & reckon they could shine- he seemed a very competent manager -you just never know what way things will go though!

Ings & JWP are on my shortlist alongside CHO as the only real options in the horrible 6.0 & below attacking bucket

I'm gonna be honest, im not optimistic of our defence. Leipzig's defence stats werent great either.
He like to push opposing players into traps where his players can overhwelm them and win the ballup the pitch. So expect some quick, counter attack goals. Don't expect high possession percentages. His pholosophy seems to be not "you can concede a goal if you have the ball", its more,"you cant lose the ball if you dont have it"

Totally agree - apparently if you could design an attacking player to fit into a Hassenhuttl system, they wouldn’t be far off Danny Ings in terms of Pace, work rate, threat etc (and quality - the guy is class)

But his fitness issues are shocking - it must be so frustrating for the guy to see his career speeding past him the way it currently is, when he knows himself how good he can be when he’s not injured

Firmly believe if Ings could somehow get 12-15 uninterrupted games he’d be scoring goals for fun, and he has pens etc as well - really hope he stays fit as it’d be great for FPL

Nah, I think Ralph's idea is more for Redmond to be a creative no. 10, a winger who drifts centrally and created chances. Not as an out and out striker. Che much more adept at that, and I think Ings and Che will compliment each other beautifully.

They are already behind Ings and Redmond in the pecking order up top I reckon so they just drop further down. Wouldn't be surprised if one is sold

Austin is linked to Sheffield., I think. Think he is on the verge of leaving. Long, I hope stays, his style of play suits Ralph very much. A young Shane Long would be in the starting XI, I dare say.

Perhaps against my better judgement, I’m pondering the merits of going Ederson/Dendoncker over 4.5GK/6.0 Attacker - it would leave below....

I’m not 100% on it mind you, but we really need either a decent 4.5 GK to emerge, or a first choice Man City LB to emerge, hopefully soon

    Ederson
    Laporte, TAA, Robbo, Digne, Coleman
    Sterling, Salah, Dendoncker
    Vardy, King
    (Bench: 4x lols)

Dendoncker as a starter feels slightly too cheap. How sure on you on Vardy? I'd probably downgrade him to upgrade a mid. Lots of good striker options

      1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
        • 14 Years
        5 years, 4 months ago

Dendoncker pretty much a 2 points per week merchant as a mid...

Vardy downgrade is always the other option, but from what i’ve Seen of him under Rodgers he’s not a player I want to be exposed to not having - an injury would actually help make the decision, but if he’s fit I need to crowbar him in unfortunately and make that compromise on he 11th player

        1. Tev
          • 7 Years

Fair enough, being willing to compromise like that makes the rest of your team look very nice.
Vardy was excellent towards the end of last season, I'm just not quite convinced for some reason, 9.0m feels slightly steep.

          1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
            • 14 Years

Ta, you’re dead right though in terms of the Vardy downgrade - Ederson > 4.5 & Vardy > Arnie, Wilson or Jota releases a scary amount of budget (anywhere from 2.5 to 4.0!)

But I’m just much more excited by the potential of the roster of premium defensive options plus Sterling, Salah, Vardy this year than I am about the mid price attacking assets, including Zaha, Siggy, Rich, Bilva, Arnie, Wilson, Jota, Jimmy, etc. etc... as well as being pretty cold on he prospects of Kane, Kun, Auba etc. etc.

Hence the big lopsided team structure lol, but will be interesting to see how things go

Yeah you've certainly not gone template! Vardy downgrade just looks a bit too tempting for me. Wouldn't change Ederson, City's defence is beautiful and he's probably the most nailed way in. Not overly keen on Laporte at 6.5, feel like people have an over inflated positivity about him because he returned on the gameweeks everyone had him (yes I'm still bitter). Only 5 more goal involvements than Ederson 😉

                • 14 Years
                5 years, 4 months ago

Laporte is that other opportunity I can see to release the smidgen of budget needed to turn Dendoncker into something better

And if a first choice LB emerges at Man City that’s a downgrade I’m totally willing to make!

Definitely. 6.5m for a CB who's not even 100% nailed (I know he mostly is) is too much for me. There's just not *that* many great value defenders this season, which mean a 5atb basically needs Laporte

If you're gonna play 5atb each week then i would have Ederson. That midfielder is not someone you're lookking to get many returns from. Full info I have Ederson anyway.

Do you really want to double up Everton's defence?

Looks promising the way the finish last year but I will wait and see.

Of course the dilemma is who to keep.

But why not heavier in midfielders.
      Only two of them?

Yeah Digne/Coleman aren’t far off the first two names on my team sheet - if Gueye stays - if he doesn’t stay, I don’t think I’ll even have one of them let alone two

It’s certainly not ideal - but the mid range attackers will disappoint many this season I reckon, there’ll be many times when they’re delivering the 2 PPG of Dendoncker but for 2-3m more

I still don’t like it personally though & need a 4.5 GK to emerge

No one ever ends up permacapping, remember this chat all pre season last year then everyone (rightly) switched to Kun by GW2 for example, people just use it as a justification for spending so much on one player I reckon.

Sterling last season didn't improve his goals /assists from the year before.

Salah had a poor season compared to his first season and was still top scorer by 20-odd points.

Only £0.5MN in them and I think Salah is more liekly to top score again than Sterling is

Karlan Granr type. Strong, likes to bully defenders, but has pace too. Finishing is great too.

Good Luck to Che, came on so much last season.
Is a cheeky 5.5m too much to ask?
Great first touch, quick, control and turns quickly and finds the bottom corner time and again.

I am pretty fixed on a 4-4-2 at the moment, chopping and changing between a couple of options for the last 2 slots. Keen to get some opinions

    Ryan
    Robbo, VVD, Digne, Laporte
Salah, Sterling, Zaha/ Siggy*, Fraser/ Maddison*
    King, Jota

Awful reason but one of the main reasons I am almost certainly going to start with Sterling over Kun this year is that I did the opposite last year and I think it really can be swings and roundabouts with those 2.

Each has pros and cons and you just need to decide and go for it

Maddison could make a mockery of his 7m price tag.

-created most(99) chances in the league of all the milfs....
More than Fraser who costs 0.5m more.(Fraser had more big chances)
