FPL Community Questions: Live Stream

Our twice-weekly live streams continue with a community questions special this afternoon.

Joe and Neale will be on air on our YouTube channel from 12:30pm BST but you can also tune in via the embedded video below.

This will be converted into podcast format after the event.

Yesterday we put out a request for questions via a Hot Topic and Twitter and we’ll be addressing some of those topics today.

Giggs Boson asked about Bournemouth assets and we’ll be looking at the Cherries, along with Leicester City players, in our latest mid-price price bracket analysis.

Bambi wondered if 5-3-2 is too inflexible should an early bandwagon emerge and we’ll be sharing our views on that, too.

With the ‘going big in defence’ strategy gathering momentum, two relatively overlooked premium forwards are also discussed.

We’ll be filming another one of these videos on Thursday lunchtime tackling more of the requests that were submitted on our site or on social media.

Keep your requests coming in for topics of debate in the meantime and we’ll get through as many as we can before the season begins.

Delph to play with himself on the bench, is my guess.

Pretty happy with this Salah/Sterling/Kane team.

    Pope (4.0)
Van Dijk - Digne - Cathcart (Balbuena - Kelly)
    Salah - Sterling - Fraser - Perez - Norwood
    Kane - Giroud. (Wickham)

Giroud currently a placeholder because I don’t know who I fancy out of the sub 7m forwards. Ings/Adams/Wesley would allow Norwood to be upgraded. Norwood looks okay to start with if he takes the #10 role and some set pieces.

Kane can hurt but as you say we need evidence to make him C.
I fear FPL towers have done too good a job this year with pricing; apart from the fact Pool defenders are too low and will create bandwagons.

As much as Origi looks a great £5.5m option for GW1 against a weak Norwich defence, after that you have a big problem owning him. Mane and Firminho likely start GW2 over him, transferring him out will require -4 point hit (2 transfers) due to the price bracket. Only hope would be seeing if Andone becomes Brighton's 1st choice for a free transfer.
Too much uncertainty for my liking, especially when I have other punts to sweat over.

    1. Ask Yourself

Anyone picking Origi needs to be prepared to play their WC early but they could hit the ground running if he hauls GW1. Wouldn't be surprised if he started GW2 as well.

Season starts in three and a half weeks and his previous season still hasn't ended. Could see Origi starting GWs 1 and 2 quite easily.

Only joking! It is always my goal to wildcard just before Xmas, round GW16 or so. Haven't achieved it yet and rue it constantly so hopefully this will be the year. I am personally not going for any question mark players in my team. All proven performers.

I am not doing it but there is a way round it. 2 ways actually.
      1) have 12 decent players for starting 11 and save the tfr.
      2) Wildcard early. A lot will be doing after week 4

Maybe 7.5? He's going to be the main striker at West Ham with no real rotation worries. Could be an interesting option, I've not seen him play but reports are that he's very good.

Tinkering with a placeholder version of 3 up top and maintaining a solid mid and come up with this. Constructive criticism welcome:

    Ryan/ Heaton
    TAA, Digne, Zinchenko, Aké
    Salah, Sterling, Siggy
    Vardy, King, Giroud
    (4.0) (Hayden, Dendoncker, Kelly)

The main issues I see are the weakness of the defence but it isn't awful imo.
Giroud is a placeholder for Haller is he comes in at 7.0 or under.

    Thoughts?
    Cheers 🙂

Cheap, decent fixtures, hopefully save points. Most of the 4.5s are rubbish and the decent ones like Pope/Heaton don't have a 4.0 backup in case of injury or suspension.

I've been arguing this for weeks. Even if they stay up by scoring more goals than last season, Potter's teams can't defend. Most of those on the Ryanwagon compound their mistake by jumping on the Buttonwagon. Makes much more sense if you're going cheap to have Pope or even Gunn.

My current team has kane, Salah and sterling, and it doesn't look too bad to me. Am I making a really obvious error by going for 3 big hitters?

    Pope
    TAA VVD Digne Zinchenko
    Salah Sterling Perez Jorginho
    Kane King

Kane to vardy frees up 2m to reinvest, is that more sensible? Jorginho to zaha looks good if he starts the season, other than that I can't see any major upgrades.

    1. Tommytour

That's not bad at all actually. I prefer the balance of just having two of them but if you really want all three that's about as good as it gets.

      1. No Professionals
        • 7 Years
        5 years, 3 months ago

Thanks, its about what will score more points. Jorginho facilitates kane (who will score more points than vardy if he stays fit), but does zaha over jorginho more than make up for that.

        Other option is:
        Kane, digne and jorginho to...

        Vardy, Coleman and moura

I assume you've got zilch on the bench. I would go Kane > Vardy to upgrade Jorg to a 6.5.
If you need cash for playing subs, Digne could > Coleman.

The difficulty I've got is that if I put vardy in I'll have double leics (not keen on double) so would ideally want to change Perez but arent many attractive 6.5m. Also upgrading jorginho to a 6.5m adds to that issue (the two best in my opinion are Perez and tielemans).

If you build your team around a 5.5 defender and might need a 6.5 (for city cover and safety) you will need to restructure a lot if it turns out he is not a regular. I rather plan for the most expensive options and be positive surprised than the other way around. But were just thinking differently I suppose.

They are only temporary drafts at the moment. We will all be watching ore season and the community shield to see if he is first choice come the start of the season. If it’s still unclear then I’m sure most will ship.

You should definitely have cover for most of the downpriced options. I see a lot of teams squeezing in many premiums by having Zinch, Perez, Yarmo etc. You cant have these players with no bench or youre taking a large risk. Personally I have a 6.0 striker/mid first on the bench. feels safer.

    Afternoon,

I've been focusing mainly on formations with 4 or 5 at the back but came up with this 3-4-3 which looks quite nice. Only downside is having only one viable sub.

Keen to hear your opinions - thanks.

    Ederson
    Robbo - TAA - Digne
    Salah - KDB - Zaha - Perez/Tielemans
    Vardy - King - Deleufeo

    Button / Dendoncker - Rico - Kelly

It's excellent, but the weakness you point out is serious, but can be easily rectified.
Robbo or TAA > VVD and/or Digne > Coleman frees up cash to strengthen your bench.

Bit worried about Zaha. There's some uncertainty around his future, and he has said he wants to move. I'd be worried as an owner. Kelly is probably the most likely of the two 4.0 defenders to get gametime.I think Deeney is better value as he's also on penalties.

How's this for a team of proven performers? Not sure about the dubble Leicester but the rest are no-headache picks. Thought about King for a long time but I started the season with him last year and he was infuriating so I'm staying clear.

      Pope
      Robbo - TAA - Coleman - Dunk
      Salah - Richarlison - Perez - Maddison
      Aguero - Wilson
