FPL Community Questions: Live Stream

We’re hosting another community questions video special this afternoon.

Joe and Neale will be on air on our YouTube channel from 12:30pm BST but you can also tune in via the embedded video below.

This will be converted into podcast format after the event.

As happened on Tuesday, we’ll be addressing some of the questions and issues raised in the Hot Topic and Tweet that we put out earlier in the week.

ritzyd asked about budget gems, so Joe and Neale will be delving into the best bench fodder options in each of the positions – if there are any, that is.

Kane Lane and I Member wondered if Chelsea assets – including Olivier Giroud – are being overlooked and that issue will also be tackled in today’s stream.

Joe and Neale also share their general thoughts on building a Gameweek 1 squad and any advice that may be useful.

We’ll be live again next Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime tackling more of the requests that were submitted on our site or on social media.

Keep your requests coming in for topics of debate in the meantime and we’ll get through as many as we can before the season begins.

    RMT please. 0.5 ITB

    Ryan, 4.0
    TAA, VVD, Digne, Diop, Rico
    Salah, Sterling, Fraser, Gross, Dendoncker
    Vardy, King, 4.5

442, open to changing Diop to another 4.5 (maybe Zappocasta if he looks like starting) or upgrading to 5.0

I honestly think you'd score more by dropping Digne to Coleman and turning Diop into a 5.5. Then, it's a very strong 4-4-2 structure (not sold on Gross but just preference, of course.)

      Long term = very good
      Short term = total punt

He’s young, new to the league, has competition to start and spent much of last season on the bench. I’d give it a few weeks to monitor

    3. Tomerick

He’s not the new Hazard just because Hazard left. He’ll do alright but as the most expensive Chelsea asset you are probably better off looking at someone tried and tested such as Giroud if he’s the clear first choice.

Good player, and potentially lots of good value at Chelsea this year, but I would wait until a few weeks into the season to see how he takes to the PL.

The issue I have is its using up a valuable City slot. I'm sure you'll get a few goals and assists, but he is a holding midfielder.

Exactly. I like Emery though.A lot of media whinged about him but I thought he did well first season in PL and got to EL final. Maybe his hands were tied with Ozil. Can't be a good influence in dressing room having a player who does it only when he feels like it but is better paid than God.

Havent they bought a keeper, like 5 defenders and two holding mids in the last three years? It's not that they neglect to buy them; the just keep buying bad ones, like Sokratis and Mavrapolos

Arsenal currently not linked to anyone in defence other than Tierney.

Holding back in full training or Leno who is nailed on in goal are best bets.

If Everton signs I think he'll be rotated with Nelson at the start.

Currently looking like a 4-3-3 with ozil actually getting his favourite position and auba on wing.

    Ryan

With Siggy or Deulofeu could be better, but I really like it.

I think Bournmouth fixtures mean Kings a keeper and Jota scored twice against Newcastle in pre season so i fancy both of them. Deulofeu is to hit and miss for me....

Think Digne's returns this year will exceed Coleman aswell, them set pieces will hopefully make the difference.

Siggy is always a difficult one, hes on the watchlist at the moment

If you really can try to afford Wilson as I think he's better value, but I know that is hard to try and fit a "premium" striker so far...
Anyway, I like the Perez pick, let's only hope Leicester will fire immediatly

Bugger, that’s annoying. Was hoping Haller would be 7.0...

How’s she looking just now, though? Got 1.0 ITB I could spend in a couple places, including Deulofeu to Haller... Moura a good enough pick, or go for Fraser or change price points?

    Pope (4.0)
    TAA VVD Coleman Zinchenko (4.0)
    Salah Sterling Moura* Perez
    Wilson Deulofeu

Guys, several points for your opinions:

    A. Who is Giroud competing with for CF role in Chelsea?
    B. El Ghazi or Grealish? Or none?
    C. Who is the best fodder FW for 4.5? Greenwood? Is it better to get someone with low ownership to ensure his price will nor drop down to 4.4 very soon?
    D. Re item C., significantly 4.5 MF options is much better than FW which makes us have playing FWs, however there are better let's say 6-6.5 options in MF than FW. What is the consensus on formation from this perspective?

    1. The 5% Team
      • 6 Years

      A. Batshuayi and maybe Abraham
      B. El Ghazi
      C. Greenwood
      D. Don't like 3 striker formations

    2. OLDHERMAN

      My 2 cents:

      A. Giroud is himself competing for the role of Batshuayi, who I can see as the first pick for Lamps.
      B. Grealish, better player, captain, nailed, versatile
      C. Yes, Greenwood for me.
      D. Dunno really, wait for others' opinions.

    3. SHOW_ME_DA_MANE
      • 6 Years
      5 years, 3 months ago

      A. Basuyhai (Terrible spelling), Tammy Abraham
      B. Both overprices IMO
      C. 4.5 Strikers are fodder, no good choices, Nketiah or Greenwood might get some minutes
      D. I dont think there is much value at 4.5m for strikers or midfielders

    4. HamezMace
      • 10 Years
      5 years, 3 months ago

      A. Abraham, and Batsuayi
      B. Someone on here said El Ghazi was one to watch in pre-season. Avoid Grealish.
      C. Greenwood, and Wickham are probably the only ones with a chance of cameo appearances. I think it's unlikely they'll drop, and there won't be anyone to transfer them too.
      D. 3-4-3 is usually the most popular, but lots of people this year are looking at the value in defence, and going 4-4-2

    5. Netley Lucas
      • 9 Years
      5 years, 3 months ago

      A Bats and Tammy
      B Observe for now
C Greenwood or Wickham, maybe, but not at the expense of being a better option
D Depends, a moderate 4.5 striker who gets decent minutes can be better than a 4.5 DM, at B1. I wouldn't say the 6's in attack are worse than the 6's in midfield, yet.

Davies is nailed with reports Rose want out of the club and has not travelled for preseason. Spurs in for a Right back (Aarons from Norwich or Hysaj of Napoli). The whole structure is up in the air with uncertainty.

I am. Thing is with Sigurdsson, is that he's an investment for the long haul, which is a lot harder than it sounds. He blanked in 23 of his 38 fixtures last season, including home games against Huddersfield, Southampton, Burnley, Bournemouth, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Watford – all bottom half teams. He also failed to return in 3 consecutive matches. With him it’s a steady stream of points and patience will be required. This talk from Silva of a formation change could also impact his position, so I'd like to see how he fits into that too.

Yeah it went a bit under the radar, here it is...

Marco Silva on Fabian Delph’s best position: “For me, he is a box-to-box player. He performs better when he is box-to-box. When I said he can bring different solutions, it is to play a 4-3-3 with two offensive midfielders, plus one positional midfielder."

    Just a heads-up.

I saw that people were writing off Snodgrass, earlier. Well, One of Haller's main strengths is in the air, and Snodgrass is our main corner taker.

    Snodgrass 44 corners 38.3 conversion

    Anderson 15 corners 30.6 conversion

    3 other corners.

That would mean Fornals plays in a 2 man midfield, which I can't see happening straight away.

          Rice - Noble
          Lanzini - Fornals - Anderson
          Haller

Would make most sense for now, I think.

His recovery and the abundance of options at West ham makes it difficult to include him.
FPL messed up pricing Haller 7.5. Nothing exciting more than a new player just like Jota last season. Will follow pre- season closely to see how both the new signings perform before considering for GW2.

Most teams on here have Salah & Sterling as their 2 captain options. But is Sterling a good captain option? According to transfermarkt, last season he was benched for the whole match in these games :
    2 H Huddersfield
    9 H Burnley
    15 A Watford
    33 H Cardiff
And he made cameo appearances in these 3:
    17 H Everton
    27 A Everton
    28 H West Ham
He managed 1 goal and 0 assists in those 3 games.
Those cameos worry me the most. 1 point captain appearances are painful. I might just go for KDB and permacaptain Salah.

But then look at Mo’s poor run mid late season - horrid captain material. It cuts both ways no?

Neither is perfect but the combination is great generally. That’s why I’m probably starting without Mo 😉

        • 5 Years

You're right, I'm trying to squeeze Sterling in somehow but do fancy backing KDB this year

This may be pie in the sky but my aim is only to get Mo when he explodes - even if it means missing a couple of weeks of prime captain.

I had real difficulty not captaining him all the time when I had him - that cost me. I’m hoping a combo of 3 of Kane Sterling KdB Vardy gives me more options and covers him. I’m also open to captaining double defence at home with Robbo TAA.

First post on here since last season but 46th draft so far.

Hmm the plan is to have them both eventually, depending on form obviously.

I would need to downgrade Norwood to do the swap. I'll mull it over!

    2. 7rjngs lollygagger
      • 5 Years

      Very nice

The bench I think is sensible. I’m seeing a lot of forced early transfers from zero bench teams

Also gone Mo free to start but have KdB and Kane over Pogba Vardy with the Bournemouth pair. I pay for it with a weaker defence. KdB may leave my set up I guess.

Think the problem with your set up is the captain option. Vardy could work I guess.

      1. Openboxman
        • 5 Years
        5 years, 3 months ago

Yeah, I was keen on making sure that I wasnt left short on the bench, injuries and suspensions etc will screw plans over royally.

I didnt like the idea of no Mo but his absence frees up so much more creativity in the rest of the team. I'm expecting an early WC when Mo starts banging them in for fun.

The captaincy issue bothers me as well.

        1. 7rjngs lollygagger
          • 5 Years

I wouldn’t go there immediately but double defence captain could be a weapon.

Mo hits at home and not away and so did the defence last time. Given Robbo and TAA have a decent chance of attacking returns too then effective triple defence can work. Sone risk I suppose but if the cs record repeats then it’s workable.

Tried it just the once last season (against Huddersfield) and it went to plan.

    Good afternoon folks,

First draft in a few weeks - how's it looking?

    Ryan

    Robertson - VVD - Cathcart - Digne

    Salah - Tielemans - KDB - Sigurdsson

    Kane - Deulofeu
    --------------------------------------------------
    4.0 - Greenwood - Hayden - Diop

Not the most exciting of benches, but if Greenwood gets some decent minutes on the right of a front 3 I might be able to bag a bit of a price increase. Hayden is a 2 pointer. Diop looks good value to me.

Looking at other lineups I notice that Perez seems to be flavour of the month now over Tielemans. More goalscoring threat perhaps, but are we sure he's nailed?

    Any thoughts welcome.

I'm not sure he's a Gueye replacement. Silva said he see's Delph as a box to box midfielder, which will enable them to play a 4-3-3. He also said if Gueye is sold, a new player is needed.
