We’re hosting another community questions video special this afternoon.
Joe and Neale will be on air on our YouTube channel from 12:30pm BST but you can also tune in via the embedded video below.
This will be converted into podcast format after the event.
As happened on Tuesday, we’ll be addressing some of the questions and issues raised in the Hot Topic and Tweet that we put out earlier in the week.
ritzyd asked about budget gems, so Joe and Neale will be delving into the best bench fodder options in each of the positions – if there are any, that is.
Kane Lane and I Member wondered if Chelsea assets – including Olivier Giroud – are being overlooked and that issue will also be tackled in today’s stream.
Joe and Neale also share their general thoughts on building a Gameweek 1 squad and any advice that may be useful.
We’ll be live again next Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime tackling more of the requests that were submitted on our site or on social media.
Keep your requests coming in for topics of debate in the meantime and we’ll get through as many as we can before the season begins.
Do it!
I like this better than GW1BB.
That hurts have my teams not impressed you
A) Kane Wilson Deeney Perez
B) Vardy King Jota SiggyReply fail
RMT please. 0.5 ITB
Ryan, 4.0
TAA, VVD, Digne, Diop, Rico
Salah, Sterling, Fraser, Gross, Dendoncker
Vardy, King, 4.5I’d rather Noble/Norwood or the likes starting over Dendoncker.
442 or 352?
442, open to changing Diop to another 4.5 (maybe Zappocasta if he looks like starting) or upgrading to 5.0
I honestly think you'd score more by dropping Digne to Coleman and turning Diop into a 5.5. Then, it's a very strong 4-4-2 structure (not sold on Gross but just preference, of course.)
Pulisic prospects?
Never achieved many attacking returns in a season however he’s still only 20. Wait and see but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him do well.
Long term = very good
Short term = total punt
He’s young, new to the league, has competition to start and spent much of last season on the bench. I’d give it a few weeks to monitorHe’s not the new Hazard just because Hazard left. He’ll do alright but as the most expensive Chelsea asset you are probably better off looking at someone tried and tested such as Giroud if he’s the clear first choice.
Good player, and potentially lots of good value at Chelsea this year, but I would wait until a few weeks into the season to see how he takes to the PL.
I know there are many better and proved choices in MC's team, but is anyone thinking to get Rodrigo?
Great player, but don't
not for FPL
The issue I have is its using up a valuable City slot. I'm sure you'll get a few goals and assists, but he is a holding midfielder.

Feel satisfied with this. Thoughts?
TAA-VVD-Zinchenko (Cathcart, 4.0)
Salah-Siggurdson-Moura-Perez (4.5)
Kane-King-JotaGK is Pickford
Looks good. Who are your keepers? How nailed on will Moura be when Son returns?
I'll ship Moura out GW2 likely
Like except the striker I think you can do better x
No cash to do better. Could do Raul, Vardy instead of Kane, Jota
It's missing a city attacker which I feel will cost you going without
I want KDB, but I want to see how he starts the season.
Stenson, Rahm, Schaufelle e/w for The Open.
McIlroy and McDowell are done.Xander not looking great either
Arsenal have sent a club doctor to Brazil to conduct a medical for winger Everton Soares, according to The Sun, who say he is close to completing a £36m deal.
That source :/
This. Will be all over it if it's true
Will be a nice way into Arsenal's attack if true.
The only thing that supports this is that Everton liked new Arsenal player Martinelli on Instagram.
A few Brazilian sources were reporting this in the last few days well.
Have they plans to sign defenders and defensive mids?
The only position Arsenal DON'T need to strengthen is attack.
Exactly. I like Emery though.A lot of media whinged about him but I thought he did well first season in PL and got to EL final. Maybe his hands were tied with Ozil. Can't be a good influence in dressing room having a player who does it only when he feels like it but is better paid than God.
Diaby is like a new signin.
Of course not, Arsenal's club policy is neglect their defence
Havent they bought a keeper, like 5 defenders and two holding mids in the last three years? It's not that they neglect to buy them; the just keep buying bad ones, like Sokratis and Mavrapolos
Digne, Coleman, Mina, Keane etc?
Arsenal currently not linked to anyone in defence other than Tierney.
Holding back in full training or Leno who is nailed on in goal are best bets.
If Everton signs I think he'll be rotated with Nelson at the start.
Currently looking like a 4-3-3 with ozil actually getting his favourite position and auba on wing.
Which is better for Gw1-3

Thanks7/10
Zinchenko and De Bruyne worry me, both might not start GW1, I am waiting to see who City go with at LB and also keeping an eye on De Bruyne...
Other than that good team! Why won't Debruyne start? He'll have a full pre-season of fixtures to get fit
Yeah exactly he should start.
I think it's excellent. All eyes on Zinc, of course, but signs appear to be decent.

Reply to Special Wan. Soz.
Right so first draft went down like Neymar....Thoughts on the following for GW1
Ryan
VVD - Robbo - Digne - KWP/Aurier
Sterling - Salah - Perez - Fraser
Jota - King
Subs
Button - Fornals (GW2 onwards), Dunk, NketiahFine for now
With Siggy or Deulofeu could be better, but I really like it.
Maybe try to downgrade Digne to ColemanI think Bournmouth fixtures mean Kings a keeper and Jota scored twice against Newcastle in pre season so i fancy both of them. Deulofeu is to hit and miss for me....
Think Digne's returns this year will exceed Coleman aswell, them set pieces will hopefully make the difference.
Siggy is always a difficult one, hes on the watchlist at the momentSure, I agree with that but keep an eye on Wolves' Europa League campaign as Jota could be affected during the season
Would be a straight swap, Jota out Deulo or Barnes in,
Team will probably completely change anyway im a Gunner and always love getting burnt by putting Arsenal players in my squad lollol that's true...it's frustrating picking Nketiah as a bench fodder, as I did.
If you really can try to afford Wilson as I think he's better value, but I know that is hard to try and fit a "premium" striker so far...
Anyway, I like the Perez pick, let's only hope Leicester will fire immediatlyPerez quite inconsistent.
Would you go for Zaha instead?
He looked great in a bang average Newcastle team so I am expecting him to do well for Leicester.....
I hope Eddie gets some game time this year but cant see it, dont think any of the 4.5 strikers will get a sniff of first team football
Which defenders on pens? Only Ritchie? Baines is cooked unfortunately.
Only him indeed
Have and interesting one
a) Siggy/King
b)Zaha/WilsonI would go A
Bugger, that’s annoying. Was hoping Haller would be 7.0...
How’s she looking just now, though? Got 1.0 ITB I could spend in a couple places, including Deulofeu to Haller... Moura a good enough pick, or go for Fraser or change price points?
Pope (4.0)
TAA VVD Coleman Zinchenko (4.0)
Salah Sterling Moura* Perez
Wilson Deulofeu
Again, 1.0 ITBKing or Wilson first choice for pens?
King
cheers
Don’t they have some agreement that if they earn it they take it? If someone else does they take every second penalty? Maybe I’m imagining this.
I think this happened early last season with Wilson taking the penalty which he missed. This will make Wilson better option than King who rely on PK.
It was King, no guarantee it still is though
Guys, several points for your opinions:
A. Who is Giroud competing with for CF role in Chelsea?
B. El Ghazi or Grealish? Or none?
C. Who is the best fodder FW for 4.5? Greenwood? Is it better to get someone with low ownership to ensure his price will nor drop down to 4.4 very soon?
D. Re item C., significantly 4.5 MF options is much better than FW which makes us have playing FWs, however there are better let's say 6-6.5 options in MF than FW. What is the consensus on formation from this perspective?A. Batshuayi and maybe Abraham
B. El Ghazi
C. Greenwood
D. Don't like 3 striker formationsMy 2 cents:
A. Giroud is himself competing for the role of Batshuayi, who I can see as the first pick for Lamps.
B. Grealish, better player, captain, nailed, versatile
C. Yes, Greenwood for me.
D. Dunno really, wait for others' opinions.A. Basuyhai (Terrible spelling), Tammy Abraham
B. Both overprices IMO
C. 4.5 Strikers are fodder, no good choices, Nketiah or Greenwood might get some minutes
D. I dont think there is much value at 4.5m for strikers or midfieldersA. Abraham, and Batsuayi
B. Someone on here said El Ghazi was one to watch in pre-season. Avoid Grealish.
C. Greenwood, and Wickham are probably the only ones with a chance of cameo appearances. I think it's unlikely they'll drop, and there won't be anyone to transfer them too.
D. 3-4-3 is usually the most popular, but lots of people this year are looking at the value in defence, and going 4-4-2A Bats and Tammy
B Observe for now
C Greenwood or Wickham, maybe, but not at the expense of being a better option
D Depends, a moderate 4.5 striker who gets decent minutes can be better than a 4.5 DM, at B1. I wouldn't say the 6's in attack are worse than the 6's in midfield, yet.Thank you, guys!!
Is there a nailed Spurs' defender?
Lloris, Vertonghen and in my view Sanchez, more or less always fielded last term if fit and very much improved since.
Not really worth it unless it's one of the fullbacks, who probably won't be nailed under Poch anytime soon
AVL(H) and NEW(H) smells like clean sheet city.
If Alderweireld stays he will be nailed.
Lloris, Vertonghen at the mo.
Davies is nailed with reports Rose want out of the club and has not travelled for preseason. Spurs in for a Right back (Aarons from Norwich or Hysaj of Napoli). The whole structure is up in the air with uncertainty.
Annoying Davies is 5.5 considering he played less than 1900mins last season. So many 4.5-5m defs outscore him.
He's the man I want to be nailed.
Sessengon heavily linked to Spurs.
Anyone going Siggy-less? Who are you preferring?
Richy Rich, but still undecided tbh.
Going Salah, Sterling, Moura and Perez to begin with currently. Moura is just a punt for gw1-3. Might upgrade him to Siggy if he hits the ground running though.
Richarlison...as I won't have the patience to keep Siggy for a whole season 🙂
Sterling, Salah, Zaha, Perez so far.
I'm trying to keep Fraser in my drafts but I think there are better option as I also own King
No love for Zaha so?
I like Zaha. If he ends up at Arsenal or not I still think he is a good option.
Richarlison, has scored well in the first few gameweeks of the last two seasons (bar that red last year)
I am. Thing is with Sigurdsson, is that he's an investment for the long haul, which is a lot harder than it sounds. He blanked in 23 of his 38 fixtures last season, including home games against Huddersfield, Southampton, Burnley, Bournemouth, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Watford – all bottom half teams. He also failed to return in 3 consecutive matches. With him it’s a steady stream of points and patience will be required. This talk from Silva of a formation change could also impact his position, so I'd like to see how he fits into that too.
Oooh, I missed the Silva formation-change thing. What did he say?!
Yeah it went a bit under the radar, here it is...
Marco Silva on Fabian Delph’s best position: “For me, he is a box-to-box player. He performs better when he is box-to-box. When I said he can bring different solutions, it is to play a 4-3-3 with two offensive midfielders, plus one positional midfielder."Thanks mate. Agree, that doesn't sound very good at all for Siggy.
KDB atm
For those interested, Watford line-up vs Ajax
https://twitter.com/WatfordFC/status/1151869666459049985
not a lot of first teamersNice they’re gonna use Wilmot as a CDM second half. I really like watford’s Squad
Just a heads-up.
I saw that people were writing off Snodgrass, earlier. Well, One of Haller's main strengths is in the air, and Snodgrass is our main corner taker.
Snodgrass 44 corners 38.3 conversion
Anderson 15 corners 30.6 conversion
3 other corners.Does he also take free kicks Doos? I’m more concerned about if he will be nailed with the new signings? Should they effect Snodgrass mins?
Yes. He takes nearly all our indirect free kicks. Anderson takes a majority, but not all, of our direct free kicks.
Also, Snodgrass has a long history of dead-ball striking. I would expect him to improve, this Season.
5.5 is good price for me also. May downgrade my Moura punt to him to allow me to upgrade Origi. Thank you.
Westwood and Mourinho are also sound.
Do you think Snodgrass will be a starter?
I would be amazes if he wasn't, yes.
That would mean Fornals plays in a 2 man midfield, which I can't see happening straight away.
Rice - Noble
Lanzini - Fornals - Anderson
Haller
Would make most sense for now, I think.Well, that would be fine. But Lanzini was already a flop at the dead-ball thing. 🙂
- he was given the duties when the Frenchman left.
Really? I would've thought your strongest line-up, when everyone's fit, would involve a attacking midfield trio of Yarmolenko-Lanzini/Fornals-Anderson with Haller up top?
His recovery and the abundance of options at West ham makes it difficult to include him.
FPL messed up pricing Haller 7.5. Nothing exciting more than a new player just like Jota last season. Will follow pre- season closely to see how both the new signings perform before considering for GW2.Fair. But he has recovered. 🙂
Is Snoddy going to get regular game time? I’m finding the midfield impossible to pick. So many bodies
Something a little different but I'm mirin'
https://ibb.co/xjz7q5Z
Davies for someone else if Spurs sign a LBNice I like it. Not sure on Leno or Arsenal defence though. I was half considering Maitland-Niles for a wee while.
Go for whoever the RB will be we should know who it is by then
Oh wait you’re going beyond GW2 aren’t you dw
Most teams on here have Salah & Sterling as their 2 captain options. But is Sterling a good captain option? According to transfermarkt, last season he was benched for the whole match in these games :
2 H Huddersfield
9 H Burnley
15 A Watford
33 H Cardiff
And he made cameo appearances in these 3:
17 H Everton
27 A Everton
28 H West Ham
He managed 1 goal and 0 assists in those 3 games.
Those cameos worry me the most. 1 point captain appearances are painful. I might just go for KDB and permacaptain Salah.I've got Salah & Auba/Kane rotation, with KDB covering City for this reason.
What do you mean with Auba/Kane rotation?
means they havent decided whether to pick Auba or Kane yet
yeah okay...thought he meant having Salah, Auba, Kane and KdB 🙂
Arsenal and Spurs rotate home and away. So you are always guaranteed a home game for either Kane or Auba.
I'm planning on doing this atm.
Having 3 big hitters involves a lot of compromises elsewhere
I've definitely had to compromise, but not more than I'm happy with.
Ryan
VVD TAA Walker Coleman
Salah KDB Fraser Perez
Kane Deulofeu
But then look at Mo’s poor run mid late season - horrid captain material. It cuts both ways no?
Neither is perfect but the combination is great generally. That’s why I’m probably starting without Mo 😉You're right, I'm trying to squeeze Sterling in somehow but do fancy backing KDB this year
This may be pie in the sky but my aim is only to get Mo when he explodes - even if it means missing a couple of weeks of prime captain.
I had real difficulty not captaining him all the time when I had him - that cost me. I’m hoping a combo of 3 of Kane Sterling KdB Vardy gives me more options and covers him. I’m also open to captaining double defence at home with Robbo TAA.
First post on here since last season but 46th draft so far.
Pope
TAA - Laporte - Van Dijk
Sterling - Pogba - Perez - Fraser
Vardy - Jota - Wilson
McGovern - Norwood - Kelly - DunkLooks good but Salah for Sterling the only change and better first 2 fixtures.
Hmm the plan is to have them both eventually, depending on form obviously.
I would need to downgrade Norwood to do the swap. I'll mull it over!
Very nice
The bench I think is sensible. I’m seeing a lot of forced early transfers from zero bench teams
Also gone Mo free to start but have KdB and Kane over Pogba Vardy with the Bournemouth pair. I pay for it with a weaker defence. KdB may leave my set up I guess.
Think the problem with your set up is the captain option. Vardy could work I guess.Yeah, I was keen on making sure that I wasnt left short on the bench, injuries and suspensions etc will screw plans over royally.
I didnt like the idea of no Mo but his absence frees up so much more creativity in the rest of the team. I'm expecting an early WC when Mo starts banging them in for fun.
The captaincy issue bothers me as well.I wouldn’t go there immediately but double defence captain could be a weapon.
Mo hits at home and not away and so did the defence last time. Given Robbo and TAA have a decent chance of attacking returns too then effective triple defence can work. Sone risk I suppose but if the cs record repeats then it’s workable.
Tried it just the once last season (against Huddersfield) and it went to plan.
Good afternoon folks,
First draft in a few weeks - how's it looking?
Ryan
Robertson - VVD - Cathcart - Digne
Salah - Tielemans - KDB - Sigurdsson
Kane - Deulofeu
--------------------------------------------------
4.0 - Greenwood - Hayden - Diop
Not the most exciting of benches, but if Greenwood gets some decent minutes on the right of a front 3 I might be able to bag a bit of a price increase. Hayden is a 2 pointer. Diop looks good value to me.
Looking at other lineups I notice that Perez seems to be flavour of the month now over Tielemans. More goalscoring threat perhaps, but are we sure he's nailed?
Any thoughts welcome.I much prefer Tielemans over Perez
how is this looking
Pickford
AWB / TAA / Ake / Coleman
Salah / Sterling / Perez / Zaha / Pogba
Wilson
bench : button,wickham,greenwood,stearman
first time I have a draft with one striker upfront..will be tinkering but how is it for today 🙂I was looking at 1 striker for quite a while but it leaves you with 2 none playing subs
hope i never need them 😛 , but yeah atleast one starter will be good for me
A) Sigurdsson + Zinchenko
B) Zaha + LaporteA
Is a midfield of Salah, Fraser, Anderson and Groß strong and flexible enough? I don’t plan an early wildcard, but to plan to bring in City assets down the track.
No Siggi, no smoke. No smoke, no fire. 😉
Haha, in that case... Would you prefer Snodgrass and Siggi over Anderson and Groß?
Yes.
Ryan Button
TAA VVD Digne WP/Aurier Kelly
Salah Sterling Siggy ____ Dendoncker
King Deulofeu(?) Nketiah
8.5m remaining for a midfielder...also, would you change anything?Fraser for first 2
Take a punt on Dele Alli?
And no, it’s good. I’d probably have Jota over Deu but I think that’s a personal preference of mine
I'm going for Pogba if he stays. I think he'll have a great season and is a steal at that price.
Where and how does Delph fit in at Everton?
Probably to replace Gueye if he's resting after Africa cup or they sell him
I'm not sure he's a Gueye replacement. Silva said he see's Delph as a box to box midfielder, which will enable them to play a 4-3-3. He also said if Gueye is sold, a new player is needed.
5 years, 3 months ago
Triple captain Salah GW1?!
