How Liverpool’s key FPL assets compare ahead of 2019/20

With a week to go before Gameweek 1, five of the eight most-owned Fantasy Premier League assets are on Liverpool’s books.

The Reds’ players were a rich source of FPL points last season and there is optimism that they can replicate that in 2019/20, although we have had to swallow price rises with a number of their key Fantasy assets.

FPL managers will be especially keen on Liverpool in the first two months of the upcoming season, with the Reds sitting second on our Season Ticker in Gameweeks 1 to 8.

Can the Reds match their performance levels of 2018/19, though?

In our latest Numbers Game series, we assess Liverpool’s key underlying statistics from last season and highlight the numbers that matter to Fantasy bosses.

B becasue Salah. Would rather have McGinn/Ceballos over Moutinho though.

      Also, Robbo-VVD and Zinc-Walker imo.

    Soz wrong article

So from these we can see a couple bargains:
Albrighton: 5.5m mid very cheap route to Leicester attack very nice
March: 5m mid playing LWB but some nice fixtures and maybe more interesting than others. Set pieces?

Also tomorrow we should see bournemouth’s First choice defence hopefully containing Rico 4m !!!!

    Button Dendonker Greenwood Hayden

    1. Whazza

      That's a really good team!

I think Zinchenko is a no-go since Mendy is back to training in 2-3 days. But fine to take a risk on one player, is A.Smith fully nailed on? Decent attacking threat I recall

      1. HollywoodXI
        • 10 Years
        5 years, 3 months ago

Re Adam Smith, I’ve been trawling Bournemouth fan forums and watching per season and, particularly given the injuries, he seems pretty nailed and he definitely has attacking threat.

Re Mendy, I actually think Zinchenko is now first choice. I’m guessing Mendy is nowhere near match fit too?

        1. Whazza
          • 12 Years
          5 years, 3 months ago

Interesting, Smith could be the 4.5 I've been looking for!
I also think Zinchenko is first choice to start the season, but would not feel comfortable owning him medium/long-term with Mendy and Angelino around. Dendoncker is not the worst sub though, really tempting team you have there 🙂

            • 12 Years

Seems like Rico has chance of being a starter too, 4.0 would be even better. Know anything about that?

            1. HollywoodXI
              • 10 Years
              5 years, 3 months ago

Rico is apparently not favoured by Howe as he’s suspect defensively. Adam Smith can play RB or LB too so I think he’s pretty much nailed for at least the first few weeks of the season whilst Bournemouth had good fixtures.

I assume Smith and Rico will start the season, but does seem like Smith is close to being nailed on! Tomorrow's lineup will assure us surely

Zinchenko will probably start first couple of games but is a transfer waiting to happen. Mendy is first choice when match fit

            • 10 Years
            5 years, 3 months ago

I’m not sure that’s the case re Mendy. Neither of us know what Pep’s thinking mind you so we could both be wrong and Angelino is first choice! 🙂

I am going with these three but prefer to spend less on defence and have a better mid and forward line.

      Ryan, Heaton
      Taa, digne, diop, Lundstram, dunk
      Salah, sterling, Perez, Barkley, dendonca
      Kane, king, Jota

Nice team. I guess it comes down to Robbo / Zinchenko / Adam Smith outscoring Barkley / Jota / Diop or Dunk. Close call. I just like the reliability of Liverpool and City defensively.

Why picking Ederson/Lloris over any 4.5 GK makes sense:

    - You know what you get in terms of points: minimum risk
    - No need to use transfers and you can focus on outfield players and bandwagons
    - Finding the right 4.5 GK like Fabianski/Etheridge last year is a gamble and you might need to use a few transfers that eventually will lead to taking hits because you picked the wrong guy. If you don't take hits, you will either postpone other much needed transfers/bandwagons or you might get stuck with a useless 4.5 because you have other pressing matters.
    - Easier to downgrade a 6.0 to a 4.5 than the other way around

It's not just the point difference between Ederson and a 4.5 that should be taking into consideration in terms of point Per million. It's also variables such as the amount of transfers/hits you will have to make/take to find that hidden gem. Transfers that could have been used improving your squad and in that way get more points.

My conclusion: The argument that Fabianski / Etheridge was better value than Ederson in terms of point pr. million last year is not equal to the fact that picking a 4.5 GK is the better option this time around, as we have no evidence or indication that any of the current 4.5's will repeat what those two did last year. Even if someone achieves it, its impossible to tell right now who that guy will be. It's a lottery ticket. But I Guess it all depends on how you like to play the game

This is all true in the sense we don't know who the 150pt 4.5 is but there are some clues. Looking at historic points and in particular save %. I reckon Pope, Heaton & Hendo have a chance.

This, its more probable this year than any other with those 3 at 4.5. Save % is the single most important stat for over achieving returns as it includes Gk quality and quality of chances a team tends to conceded. Both villa/Heaton and sheff utd/Henderson perform above average on both, and we know Burnley/pope have in the past. 1 transfer at some point will do it but I reckon all 3 could be decent value. Ps don't go on fixtures particularly with these - the one that scores 150 will do it against some of the big boys/pen saves not just more clean sheets

        1) Hendo played in Championship. You can't apply his stats last year to Premier League

        2) Save percentages is not enough. CS needed.

        3) Heaton now plays for Aston Villa. Same argument as under 1.

          1) the style of team remains the same. Lots of championship teams concede few but good chances - its not a measure of quality but style (eg Newcastle were awful at this under rafa, man utd great). xG is xG but you would temper a bit for quality of strikers I agree.

          2) Fabianski would have something to say about that. But I take your point, you ideally want the one who does both. But out of the two, great save percentage will get you more points than an extra clean sheet.

          3) Aston villa least predictable I'll admit as have a whole new team - nobody's seen them play together before... There's no reference point.

I don't think it's cut and dry, and ultimately I agree it's down to play style, but this season (like fabianski last) would point to some informed gambles

Don't suppose any nut cases have been watching Brighton vs Valencia? If so, how did Trossard look?
