The jury is still out on Manchester United’s Fantasy assets going into the new campaign.

The new manager bounce that the club experienced after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment in December gave way to some middling form in the final nine Gameweeks of the season.

Their pre-season results (five wins from six) have been quietly encouraging, at least, with Inter Milan and Spurs among the teams already beaten in July.

This latest Numbers Game piece differs from the usual format as we focus on the impact Solskjaer had on United’s assets in the second half of last season.

The Norwegian first took charge of the Red Devils in Gameweek 18, so we will examine United’s stats before and after the departure of Jose Mourinho.

        Sterling And Salah will give more value than premium forwards extra points for goal and cs helps as well. Especially Kane is one player who burns those who bring him for easy matches on paper. He only rewards those who hold him long term but 11mn is too much for player you wont feel confident captaining

          In fairness, he's deceptively athletic, though built more like a rugby player so prone for exploitation by 5 foot 7 players like Sterling who can run under hulks.

      Yes, disappointed, but also recognises City adhere to a sensible program for buying players. They could afford to pay 80million but rightly concluded he's not worth that much. United have a habit of throwing stupid money and salaries around. In the long term, look how those contrasting philosophies have panned out. Pep understands.

          City have shown over the last couple of seasons even they have a limit and structure. They will not pay over the odds for players and what ever team backroom team they have decided bug H was too much.

          And yes United have thrown money away every season since they last won the league and the facts are city have been more successful so not much of an argument I'm affraid

    Tidied this list up a bit - the nice thing about a 4.5 GK is that they don’t really need a huge volume of CS to score a (relatively) huge amount of points:

    Etheridge 18/19 - 10 CS 152 points (Relegated)
    Fabianski 18/19 - 7 CS 143 points
    Pope 17/18 - 11 CS 152 points
    Ryan 17/18 - 10 CS 146 points
    Fabianski 17/18 - 9 CS 157 point
    Heaton 16/17 - 10 CS 149 points
    Butland 15/16 - 10 CS 132 points (only 31 games!)
    Heaton 14/15 - 10 CS 150 points (Relegated)

    Even relegations and not playing a full season don’t seem to stand in the way of a good 4.5

    Should we be giving Burnley, Villa & SU their 7-10 CS & tentatively put Pope, Heaton & Henderson on the magic 140-150 mark?

      Am I right in saying Etheridge is the only one up there that represents a team that’s just been promoted? If he is, then I think it’s clear to say Pope is the standout option and a season keeper at 4.5. I’m not even going to bother with rotating him.

        I missed that Swansea were also relegated in Fabianski’s wonder season in 17/18 🙂

      One or two of the 4.5's surely will be hitting the 140 pts mark, as happens every season. Problem is picking the right one. So if picking the wrong one from the start, and swapping to the best 4.5 option before Xma,s you may already have missed out on 20 of those 140 points. So even if Ederson may provide less value than the best 4.5's , what he offers is security of a good return - should be minimum 160 pts.

    It's interesting that their defence improved slightly under Ole given they were much more attacking. That's the power of counter-pressing!

    The drop in form towards the end was hopefully due to fitness and not regressing towards the norm. If we can see the same United we saw when Ole first took charge, it will hand us a plethora of new options.

      I still think it's tricky to assess United based on last season's three phases.
      1. Start of season under Mou
      2. Starting winning run under Ole
      3. Losing end phase under Ole.

      I hear all the arguments but I can't be confident I know which one to prioritize. I'll give them until the first Int Break to show me what they're about.
