Why has Everton’s attack been so underwhelming so far this season?

Everton’s popular attacking assets have underwhelmed Fantasy Premier League managers so far this season.

After two matches, they have scored just once, only Crystal Palace finding the net fewer times than the Toffees at this stage.

Perhaps we should not be too surprised to see Marco Silva’s men struggle in front of goal at this stage.

During their pre-season campaign, they scored just three goals in seven matches, with Richarlison (£8.0m) the only key figure missing for most of it.

One was registered against Kenyan side Kariobangi Sharks, while Monaco and Mainz were the only other teams to concede against Everton.

The Toffees drew blanks in four of their summer friendlies, against FC Sion, Wigan Athletic, Sevilla and Werder Bremen.

Of those who found the back of the net, Joe Williams and Lewis Gibson are not first-team regulars, the former now a permanent Wigan player, while Seamus Coleman (£5.5m) is the only summer goal-scorer to have played in either Premier League match so far this season.

Accordingly, ahead of a Gameweek 3 trip to Aston Villa, Fantasy managers might be looking to move on their Everton attackers.

We have assessed the underlying statistics from their first two matches of the campaign to find out if the Toffees have simply been unlucky not to score more often, or if there are some tangible reasons for concern.

    My fellow gaffers, appreciate your insight on these 2 combos, which one would u choose?
    My team consists of heavy hitters in MID + Kane up top, left 0.3mil ITB. Currently on WC.

    a) Soyuncu (or any 4.5m DEF) + Trossard + Barnes
    b) Mina + Cantwell or Douglas Luiz + Pukki

        Thx buddy. I feel I needed some differentials in Trossard - seen him played, took some few good shots. Having said that, Cantwell's ownership is just 3.7% more than Trossard.

    Just made a $100 bet with a Liverpool fan who believes Firmino will score 20+ this season.

    The bet is if he scores 18 or more he wins, anything under I win.

    Fairly safe bet you’d say hey? Any reason I’m missing that makes Firmino score more goals this season?

              But yes I think Digne might be worth it. Not wholly convinced mind facing Palace (where cs was only down to Pickford) and Watford are a barometer of current cs strength.

            I downgraded Robbo early on Monday to fit Kdb and Martial. Have digne. And vvd as pool cover. Everton’s fixtures are good. Ideally i would have liked to keep Robbo but looking at the current state of things, it had to be done.

                Decent enough start, sitting at 355K. I only have VVD now for LIV defence along with Laporte Digne Maguire

                TAA always has the possibility of hauling, yes, but I'm hanging onto the thought that they are not quite going to repeat the monster year they had last year in terms of defensive solidity. Attacking returns are nice, but preferably they are on top of near guaranteed clean sheets.

          Back with a bang.... welcome to the first results of the series for Scout Picks Challenge!

          As will probably be a theme this year (again), I am currently in Chicago hence the delay in preparing this but no need to worry, this year I'm modifying the spreadsheet in ways which should *hopefully* make it much easier to update. That'll take a lot less time up for me.

          (I'll also add I had to update the spreadsheet for new teams etc. which I forgot about at the start of the season!)

          Also, great to see a lot of faces - old and new. I hope you all enjoy, and I'll do my best to keep this going properly this year.

          ***** GAMEWEEK RESULTS *****

          1st - Pingissimus (77pts) [3pts]
          Top 4% - MB10 (76pts), Whiskerz (75pts) [2pts]
          Top 10% - Double Trele (70pts), No kane No Gain (69pts), Vobinho (67pts), Polar_Bear (66pts), Van Klinkert Delarosa, FC Jammer (65pts) [1pt]

          with Polska Gola and TheBoose missing out on 64pts!

          Now with a slight adjustment this year - where there are no differentials, to keep the game fair with the Scout's advantage, I'll be substituting the Differentials with their substitutes bench for awarding bonus points.

          In this instance however... they scored exactly 77pts! Therefore no bonus points.

          Friday night game?! We're not getting caught out on those this year!

          Ladies and gentlemen, let's begin SPC GW3.

          ****** WHAT IS IT? ******

          For those of you who haven't been around or aren't aware, every evening prior to the start of the gameweek FFS releases their picks of players for the gameweek, "Scout Picks", as well as 3 differentials before the first games to separate yourself from the crowd.

          This is your way to have a bit of fun and challenge those scout picks with a set of your own (read instructions below). This will always open the day before the gameweek starts around 8pm, and whilst you don't have to play weekly, the more you play the better chance you have of winning!

          ****** INSTRUCTIONS ******

          Everyone can have their own scout picks (there is no limit on team value) but with one simple rule,

          YOU CAN ONLY PICK ONE PLAYER FROM EACH TEAM
          (yes, two of your players at least will be on opposing teams).

          You can only have ONE submission, and your FIRST submission will be what is accepted. You also must respond DIRECTLY to this post (not to a reply on this post). FFS Scout Picks are automatically enrolled. Teams must comply with FPL formation rules and be submitted in an easy to read format, e.g.

          Deadline for this gameweek is Friday 22nd August 2019 at 19:00 BST.

          ****** SCORING ******

          Regardless of number of applicants, scoring will be done by the following:

          1st place: 3 points
          Top 4% of the population will rank "second" and score 2 points.
          Top 10% of the population will rank "third" and score 1 point.

          There is also a bonus point which everyone is eligible for. If you score higher than FFS' Scout Picks AND Differential Picks/Substitutes (i.e. 14 players), you will be awarded with a bonus point regardless of whether you were in the top 10% scoring positions or not.
