Why has Everton’s attack been so underwhelming so far this season?

Everton’s popular attacking assets have underwhelmed Fantasy Premier League managers so far this season.

After two matches, they have scored just once, only Crystal Palace finding the net fewer times than the Toffees at this stage.

Perhaps we should not be too surprised to see Marco Silva’s men struggle in front of goal at this stage.

During their pre-season campaign, they scored just three goals in seven matches, with Richarlison (£8.0m) the only key figure missing for most of it.

One was registered against Kenyan side Kariobangi Sharks, while Monaco and Mainz were the only other teams to concede against Everton.

The Toffees drew blanks in four of their summer friendlies, against FC Sion, Wigan Athletic, Sevilla and Werder Bremen.

Of those who found the back of the net, Joe Williams and Lewis Gibson are not first-team regulars, the former now a permanent Wigan player, while Seamus Coleman (£5.5m) is the only summer goal-scorer to have played in either Premier League match so far this season.

Accordingly, ahead of a Gameweek 3 trip to Aston Villa, Fantasy managers might be looking to move on their Everton attackers.

We have assessed the underlying statistics from their first two matches of the campaign to find out if the Toffees have simply been unlucky not to score more often, or if there are some tangible reasons for concern.

Apologies for the repost I was bottomed

    Heaton (Button)
    TAA Diop Montoya (Rico Hanley)
    Salah Sterling Fraser Barkley (Dendoncker)
    Aubameyang King Haller

Honestly think I have a decent side despite a terrible start and want to be patient.

Thoughts on just Auba > Kane and saving the FT?

    Cheers

Tough one. I would. Because that extra 1.3m can be used to improve elsewhere. But Wilson returned both games so no need to hurry. And Pukkis fixtures aren't the best.

I did Wilson to Pukki this GW. Traded in an okay striker for much cheaper on-fire striker, increasing my current budget which I'll need next week. At the end you'll need to follow your gut but I'd say yes.

I'm a bit concerned that my forward line is about to drop - I have Murray and King. with 1 million in the band.

I can downgrade Robertson to someone like Van Dijk to add an extra 0.5, but who in the forward department is worthwhile at this price point? Feel I have missed the Pukki party, or have I?...

    1. asquishypotato

After typing this I am thinking Barnes and Pukki in for Murray and King - two form players with reasonable exploits to score.

    2. Dr. Rog
      • 15 Years

I actually wouldnt be rushing to get Barnes. At the start of the season Wood was the one, and that could very well still be the case in a few games time. The fixtures are poor for the next two so still time to monitor - and I bet you someone like Kean/Haller/Abra/Jota becomes an option at that point too.

      Tough decision here

      Pope 4
      Digne AwB Zinky 4 4
      Sterling KdB Martial Mount ____
      ____ ___ Pukki

      A) Kane Bobby (Donker) and -0.1 (Otamendi over Zinky)
      B) Mane Rashy (Wickham) and 0.3

One route leads is a long term decision to hold one of Kane/Auba.
The other plays it safe with Mane/Salah in a 352

I made the exact same team on my wc then I decided I wanted some of that Kane pain, so did KdB to Ceballos and downgraded Laporte, and now have Kane Rash and Pukki up top.
Yours is definitely more balanced though, and with KdB and Son, that 9.5 slot is needed. Laporte to VVD is the only other move I’d be tempted by.

this is a good point. someone like AwB could easily have a 160pt season (same level as say azpi last year) and at 5.5 thats more value than TAA getting 180pts @ 7.

Most on here were pro Liverpool, it's the stubbornness to admit we may have been wrong that I'm referring to

It's not stubbornness. It's acknowledging that it's still too early even if we might have been wrong. It would be wise for even the wildcarders to be honest to themselves and admit that they are taking Pool players out too early and that it may backfire.

Why exactly are people selling Salah? (unless it's for Mane to free up funds, which is alright) Why are they selling TAA when he has the second-highest xA after KDB?

Agree with Pool comments, but plenty of other changes could justify early WC - double BOU attack, 1-2 Leic, Wolves with Europa League fatigue, maybe the wrong keeper..and the emerging options Manu U assets, Pukki, Lundstam, de Bruyne, Kane, Ceballos, Mount now he appears nailed, McGinn etc

They are selling Salah because he has two captaincy fixtures in the next 11 weeks - this is he opposite of points chasing

They are selling TAA until Allison gets back - risky, but there’s logic

From what I can see they are also for the most part acknowledging these are definitely risky moves

But along with he risk comes potentially (very) high upside... whereas the downside is crucially somewhat mitigated by the hot form (some offensively, some defensively, some both) & fixtures of city, spurs, Utd, Everton

Hate the game, not the players 😉

Circumstances have changed - a lot - in the last 4-6 weeks

Loads of detail we could go into, but in a nutshell when you look at the fixtures from now to GW13, how many Salah captaincies are there?

        I was making it only two!! (GW5 & GW8)

And even in those two weeks Sterling has Norwich / Wolves and Kane has Palace / Brighton

This madness has caused me to go without Mane or Salah on WC. The lack of Allison has also caused me to go pool defenceless, even though Robbo & TAA are statistically smashing it out of the park

Then there’s another whole kettle of fish called Man Utd - whilst they may still finish poorly in the league overall, the emergence of martial now (with 20:20 hindsight) makes his price & position look like errors by FPL Towers

Son is another who will surely shine

I've got very similar thoughts, though I've kept TAA because he has the second highest xA in the league so far and that's without any of his corners connecting (yet). But going completely Pool-less could definitely go well

      A) TAA/King
      B) Coleman/Rashford

Rashford looking mighty tasty, and now likely fixed for penalties.

In order to upgrade Wood to Pukki I need to free .5 so Frederics and Wood to 4m(Hanley) and Pukki? This would cost -8...

I feel like I’ve missed the boat but have been stubborn in past seasons like this regarding players doing well and ignoring them because I missed their rises/hauls. Yaya and Ramsey spring to mind.

Is Hanley first choice? I’d wait another week if you’re taking that many hits esp as Pukki won’t rise again this gw

Wood has the fixtures after wk4, fred has the fixtures for a long long time now and is one of the best 4.5 picks
