Scoutcast discuss Aguero rotation and budget defences

The Scoutcast is back once again to cover the key discussion topics ahead of Gameweek 11.

David will be joined by Az and current FFS Mods and Cons joint-leader Andy Goddard this week.

The show will run from 20:00 GMT until 21:00 GMT. You can watch it on our YouTube channel.

Up first, the Scoutcast crew will reflect on a Gameweek 10 fraught with contrasting emotions.

Andy did exceptionally well – David and Az did not.

Then, moving forward into Gameweek 11, we will tackle the Manchester City rotation debate, how seriously to take Leicester’s recent form and whether budget defences are coming back into fashion once again.

I reckon so, too much competition at that price and decent alternatives available.

I have to take this decision mate.
I really want to keep him one more, that's why I bought him, those two home games.
But even if he play is m not really sure if he deliver big.

      Such a tough decision.
I don't want to go for 2nd Leicester asset, I have Vardy already and not sure for martial's fitness, he never plays more than a few games without injury.
Dilva is too much for 3 city midfielders

Same here, I have rico and tomori as a backup but it's so annoying to have a 8.5 player in bench week in and out.

I thought he will deliver vs wolves so that killed him and also me.
Glad I didn't pay it and have green arrows

...will be an easy sell next week regardless and we will have a bit more info on players after the weekend to decide who to bring in etc. Still will be tempted to ship him out for the rest of the week haha, GL

Could it be time to start prioritising transferring in penalty takers if the benchmark for overturning decisions has dropped significantly, as showcased this past GW?

definitely. The fact that other major leagues, CL and even the world cup had adopted VAR already and could be used as guidelines of how to operate it, and yet still they've managed to make such a mess of it, is almost unforgiveable.

    Pope (Button)
    TAA - Otamendi - Lundstram - (Soy - Pieters)
    Salah - Sterling - KDB - Mount - Cantwell
    Pukki - Abraham (Ings)

I've got 1FT and 0mitb. Main concern is Otamendi. Would not hate better Leicester coverage but also tempting to double up Liverpool defence before GW 13. Thinking of holding Pukki/Cantwell for bou and WAT since I've hold on for this long, unless a fresh transfer changes that plan. Thanks! 🙂

No obvious moves for this gw given your ITB situation, save so you have two FTs come gw 13. Neither Soy nor Pieter's are bad guys if they come in for you. In fact, I'd probably play Soy ahead of Can't.

Have Aguero. And used up my FT. Logical thing is to keep him but not captain him. Been captaining him the last 2 GWs and tempted to captain him again this GW. Reason being:
    - Jesus played more minutes in the last 4 games (CL, PL, Carabao Cup) as compared to Aguero
    - Jesus started the last 2 games (PL, Carabao Cup), playing 90 and 86 minutes; whereas Aguero started only the Carabao Cup, playing 15 minutes and 90 minutes.
    - Can’t See Aguero not starting 3 PL games in a row.
    - Aguero gets the Southampton game this weekend, Jesus gets the Atlanta game next mid week while Aguero gets rested for the Liverpool game) and Aguero gets the Liverpool game next GW.

Then again, he’s Pep and it’s impossible to predict him. High risk to captain Aguero this weekend and hopefully high returns. May chicken out before the GW starts though.

more informed players surely. Every year from now you'll probably see some top managers struggling.

It seems like patience used to be a massive virtue with this game, but now with more volatile price changes it might have become a vice.

Old guard don't like to adapt their game and continue with the tried and tested, another factor to consider.

I agree with this completely. I’m not a top FPL manager, but always in top 20k. This year I am really lost, and dont think I have adapted how I’m playing

        1. F4L
          • 9 Years
          5 years, 13 days ago

I think people really underestimate the importance of the more informed players.

But there's a caveat, that these more informed players just do what they're told to, ie see an article/tweet etc saying X player has a high xG, team Y has good defensive stats, team Z have good fixtures and react accordingly.

But they don't understand the rationale behind the decision, they're giving a man a fish instead of teaching him how to fish....

Subsequently, the new influx of 'informed' players may have strong starts to the season, but more will drop away over time as the mantra of just doing whatever the expert tells them to do will fail inevitable at some point, and some will simply just lose interest in the game. And if the player then doesn't know how else to do well at the game, ie fully understanding the importance of stats, watching game (eye test) etc then they'll drop off.

However, this leaves the issue that the more experienced FPL managers might suffer a bad start to the season, and then it is how they react to that bad start that might be their undoing in the long term; they start taking risks to climb the ranks instead of doing the sensible move and over time lose out on even more points.

If they had started well, then they might have not felt it necessary to take these risks.

This is all just hearsay though, i'm probably just rambling 🙂

        1. Citizenkane91
          • 10 Years

The problem with doing Maupay now is that it leaves him with a new fire to put out, I expect he intends to play Pukki as a differential for the next 4. By doing Its and Madison he has improved two slots, which means two slots less to worry about for future transfers.

          1. IRBOX ⚽
            • 7 Years
            5 years, 13 days ago

yeah exactly this. Maupay would be a 1 week move and not sure its worth 2 transfers. May as well hold Pukki. He has scored 6 in 10, not bad for a 6.5 striker given the lack of alternatives. He is bound to score again and most likely when i jump ship

    4. Aubaaaaa
      • 8 Years

Why ship Maddison? Would do Otamendi, Pukki > Mendy, Maupay

      1. IRBOX ⚽
        • 7 Years
        5 years, 13 days ago

Need a differential and Martial has far more upside than Maddison. I watched him closely against Saints; was lying very deep and picking the ball up from Soy/Evans. 1 goal involvement in 9 is not good enough for a player of his price and can't always rely on free kicks

Surely you've got to play Wilson over Tierney, that Arsenal defence is shaky at best.

With the transfers it depends on who you're willing to lose. With 2FT CHO could become Dilva for this week and then Martial the week after.

I think KDB is a solid (c) this week, ideally you'd have Sterling as well, but you can't have them all.

Should I sell Aguero this week by doing Aguero, Cantwell to Vardy Dilva, or should I hold this transfer for next week?

    Pope
    TAA, Soy, Lund
    Salah, KDB, Yarmo, Mount
    Aguero, Tammy, Wilson

    Button, Cantwell, Rico, Janmaat

Thinking of doing Cantwell Wilson —> Martial Connolly (-4)

    Team would become:

    Pope
    TAA, Otamendi, Tomori
    Maddison, Mount, Martial, KDB, Raz
    Auba, Abraham

    Button, Lundstram, Rico, Connolly

    Thoughts?

Depends how much you want to spend and what the rest of your squad looks like? I'm currently looking at Lascelles, Soy, Tomori and Rico. BUR defender as well

Sorry forgot about Chilwell but id rather get Soy and use the extra cash somewhere else. But yes Chilwell is definitely a good option if he keeps the assists coming.

i have been mucking around with a big hitter mid field idea assuming I had a WC left. I came up with this:

    Heaton / Button
    Lundy / Kelly/ Reid / Rico / Lascelles
    Sterling / KdB / Salah / Mane / Perez
    Connolly / Tammy / Ayew

Then I thought if that had been from the start (just imagine) what points would it have had? Assuming I played as above and bench.....

    559 points without captain points
Compared to my 526 with captain points!
