Which FPL players are most involved at set-piece situations?

We take a closer look at set-piece takers in this latest Members’ article.

For those who are unaware, our Set Pieces tab details the expected corner-kick, free-kick and penalty takers for each Premier League side.

Subscribers can also see which players are getting onto the end of dead-ball deliveries, with headed attempts from set plays also chronicled.

The lists are based on a mix of information gathered from this season’s matches, last season’s numbers and pre-season friendlies, and are updated after every Gameweek as new information becomes available.

In the piece below, we study the dead-ball specialists and their teams in greater detail.

Would you downgrade Maddison 》 Tielemans to enable Maupay 》 Jiminez?

Is it involving a hit. Maddison to Tielemans seems a transfer wasted tbh.

Whom between the 2 you seeing doing better in the next 4/5 gameweeks? Maddison can be deep at times but set pieces are his butter and bread.

What would you consider cheating in fpl?

Is there even such a thing now that they have closed the loophole that allows one to see team value and money in the bank in real time?

Here are some of the things that i would consider cheating.......

1)Having more than one team entered.

2)Hacking rivals pc/phone or using someone that your rival trusts to get information on their team in an act of fpl espionage.

3)Having someone else manage your team for you unless you were incapacitated for some reason for a while.

Is anything fair game to get ahead in this game and have you ever cheated to do so?

Definetily having more than one team.

I have seen story's of managers having teams for novelty leagues which i kind of sympathized with but i think fpl should allow for such teams under the same email address and just disqualify them from the overall ranks so as to keep everything above board.

I’ve had novelty teams in the past in part of (very) mini leagues with other novelty teams. So London clubs vs Norther clubs v The rest....British players only vs European players only....stuff like that. FPL won’t allow you to delete yourself out of the OR game....i’ve tried in the past.

It was never cheating...usually only started them a few months into the season because FPL is a bit of a yawn fest really.

I understand your motivation and i am certainly not calling a manager as reputable as yourself a cheat Wakey.

Again it is a pity that fpl do not cater for such novelty leagues.

It is guys entering lots of teams going for overall rank that i have a beef with.

            1. Dr Dream
              • 12 Years

They could even encourage novelty leagues if they had a mind to. I get two teams in my cycling games as a matter of course. One uses transfers for each tour whilst the other is a fixed team for each tour. No reason on earth why FPL couldn’t do similar. They did the draft thing so at least that shows some understanding that just one team is a bit meh...i’d Like to think most folk would welcome two types of team wouldn’t they?...just not multiple teams...that’s when it’s cheating.

              1. Ógie

I guess they are afraid that allowing and catering for such novelty leagues would cull the amount of teams entered which might be bad for bringing in advertising revenue.

I don't think anyone would have a real problem with another type of team just as long as it was not going for overall rank.

There are over 7 million teams entered into fpl now but i always wonder how many individual managers are actually playing the game?

I don’t consider any of the above cheating.

Cheating would be making you transfers on a work colleagues / friends team after gaining access somehow

Otherwise who cares what someone sees on your team or what advice another player gets

No,i do not like the idea of someone doing this as both teams are going for overall rank at the end of the day.

This kind of thing has caused major waves on here before when unearthed and i hope nobody here is doing that now as i would not like to see that happening again.

Nope - decent chance Ward is back I'd say. If not this week then surely next.

What happens at Cb is anyone's guess really. Decent argument that Kelly should play there but that isn't happening imo. Cahill has been average really but seems a Roy favourite, Sakho and Tomkins should be first choice but the odds on both being fit simultaneously is zilch.

Very much considering Ward as my Rico replacement by 18 assuming I get Robbo over PvA.

Fixtures for Bournemouth defence look horrid right up to Xmas. It's not exactly a priority move as he's 3rd bench material right now for me.

But if he sneaks up to 4.4 I'll be very tempted to cash the 0.2 (got him week 2 WC) and get a 4.5 type who could rotate in and out. From 18-21 Soy and Lund have City and Liverpool so it's very foreseeable that the extra defender would get game time. Long term I know.

that was the idea i got from trying to translate that link you gave, was a bit down there for a moment. Going into this period with both Salah and Mané injured that would been bad timing, this is prob the worst period of season to get injuries as there are so many games.

Newcastle is an option but I can't look beyond Palace at the budget end if you take the view that it's a long term transfer of a good bench option.

first one a bit safer when they play 3 games a week, that´s going to happen twice, so there is a slight chance Janmaat does not start vs Lei and Villa. I don´t remember QSF in terms of what he does when fixtures piling up, but position is demanding so might be rotated, hopefully rotation is 3 times 70 minutes form start-)
I chose Janmaat, a little higher ceiling that´s why i went him above Cathcart, if you want security of starts in that Villa game Catchart is more safe.

International team managers should bin those who intentionally avoid call ups.
(At least, less important players) so that they start respecting call ups.

Robbo played through City with an injury. Henderson had been / could still be ill and VVD is for personal reasons.

Gomez is a 22 year old London boy getting booed at Wembley by England ‘fans’ for doing nothing wrong... why should he even bother for the animals?

The issue is proving it. Imposing fines would lead to all manner of legal actions without any concrete proof.

This. Fines are a no go. You wouldn’t get away with it. But you can select who you want, you don’t have to explain that you haven’t picked them because you thought they were feigning an injury last time. Everybody will know, but nobody can prove that you just decided that x player was better for this squad so the only repercussions would be that you’re potentially making your squad worse. Up to the manager to decide whether it’s worth it or not.

    On WC

If you had to choose either

    Mount & Pulisic

    or

    Tielemans & Maddison

and not a mixture of both

Which combo would you choose and why

    Any ideas would be welcomed

      The Leicester pair.

Chelsea have a more hectic schedule after IB and more options to manage minutes even if rotation per se doesn't happen.

It's also perhaps worth considering that Pulisic may take away from Mount if he is getting more dead ball situations (corners) that Mount had previously.

If you had to pick a midfield three for England's 433, with these being the other players:

    Sterling Kane Sancho
    _____ ______ ______
    Chilwell Maguire Gomez TAA
    Pickford

Who would they be? My pick would be Maddison/Rice/Grealish

    1. Rainer

      Maddison Rice Henderson.

      Delph Winks Henderson.

Functional and mobile. Want them to win the ball back quickly and protect the full backs. Winks can venture forward occasionally, but the attacking damage should be done by the front three and the full-backs. Just like Liverpool.

Sorry, but that is a horrible midfield that gets taken apart by most top teams.

        1. diesel001

That's because you care about their technical ability. I don't care about their technical ability. I want them to win the ball back high up the pitch and pass it to the front three or full backs. Then get back to protecting the defence.

Liverpool's midfield (not exactly goal scoring):

Wijnaldum: 15 goals in 157 games
Henderson: 26 goals in 339 games
Keita / Fabinho (combined): 5 in 100 games

If you think England can beat Netherlands, Portugal, Germany, France etc. by going toe-to-toe with them and playing fancy football you are living in a dreamworld. We lost to Belgium (twice) and Croatia in the World Cup. We lost to Netherlands in the Nations League. Our competitive record when it gets serious is trash. England need to be defensively solid first and foremost. Win the ball back and use our front three and full-backs to do the damage.

            • 8 Years

Since 2000, the only big teams we have beaten in competitive matches (ignore friendlies) are:

            Croatia (NL 2018)
            Spain (NL 2018)
            Croatia (WCQ 2009)
            Croatia (WCQ 2008)
            Croatia (EUR 2004)
            Argentina (WC 2002)
            Germany (WCQ 2001)
            Germany (EUR 2000)

In that time we have lost to Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Croatia, Italy, France, Netherlands, Uruguay etc. The only decent team we have a chance against in competitive matches are Croatia.

Yeah, we'll beat Poland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden (that was tough at times tbf, especially in the 2000s), Romania, Paraguay, Colombia etc.

But give us a top team and we are stuffed.

To me, we lost to Croatia because we didn’t go toe to toe with them. We got the goal and they could barely put two passes together, distinctly remember their mids playing it out of play twice in a row. But we didn’t go for the throat. We tried to play nice, calm conservative football, when we just needed to blitz them whilst they were down. They then grew
In confidence and took over the game. We hammered them a few months later and beat Spain 3-2. Don’t think we’ll ever be good enough to go out there and have routine 1-0, 2-0 wins against the top sides. We have to ride our luck, take our chances, and if they are having a nervy 20 minutes, punish them hard enough so we have more than one goal to hang on to when they inevitable take over again

We lost against Croatia because Southgate was tactically foolish. The game changed when Dalic pushed Vrsalkjo further forward in the second half. There were danger signs before the equaliser because Vrsalkjo was getting loads of space down the right and putting crosses in.

Southgate should have moved Alli across to cover Vrsalkjo. But he left Alli in the middle to pick up Rakitic when Rakitic had dropped deeper and was not as much of an attacking threat.

I agree the goal was coming long before it went in. What I’m saying is that it shouldn’t have only been 1-0 at that point.
Anyway, I agree that we’re not good enough to beat top teams regularly. Just think even with 3 defensive
mids we won’t keep top teams out, so might as well play high tempo, attacking football, create chances and hope we score more than them.
Not tactically masterful, I know but we’re not as good as them and our defence is worse than our attack, so personally I would prefer to play that way and take it on the chin when we get knocked out

They'll get caught high up the pitch and we will concede on the counter. Happens every time against the big teams. We need to learn some humility and accept that there are teams who are better than us and we can't go toe-to-toe with them.

Someone other than delph though. Ox has a decent workrate and provides goals from midfield which could prove crucial.

Ox gets caught up the pitch too. He may get there in time, but I have seen him for Liverpool. I can see why Klopp is subbing him on for one of the front three now. Ox is only coming on for Henderson when Liverpool are chasing.

Personally think Milner could fill the void, but obvs he is retired and getting old now.

Henderson, Winks and Maddison, but I think Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mount could push for a spot too. Can’t get behind Rice as our holding midfielder. Been poor for England in that role. Whenever Winks plays, we look a better team, IMO.
