Great Expectations

Can Leandro Trossard build on his debut FPL season and dodge the Brighton rotation?

Just before the start of the 2019/20 season, Brighton and Hove Albion signed Leandro Trossard (£6.0m) for a fee of around £15m.

I was very excited: he had just come off the back of the best season of his career, registering 14 goals and seven assists for Genk as they won the Belgian top flight.

His skilful playstyle and favoured position on the left wing combined with his Belgian nationality inevitably drew comparisons to the departing Eden Hazard.

Trossard tried to distance himself from the hype, but I couldn’t help but think we had pulled off a real coup.

The player said about himself:

I like one against ones. I’m quite fast, turning. I hope I can show you so you know how my style is.

Now reflecting on Trossard’s first season in the Premier League, I’ve been left a bit disappointed, both by Trossard’s overall performances (bar a couple of decent goals and display) and how I feel Potter has used him throughout the campaign.

I’m going to use this article to take a look at Trossard in more detail and hopefully, give a bit more insight into how I expect Albion to line up next season – and who (if any) of the Brighton boys we should be considering for our 2020/21 squads.

Manchester United will sign Messi before Liverpool even thinks about it.

He's going to City if he's going anywhere.

I like the Maddison pick. Defense needs some help. Consider an 8.5 forward instead of Werner and use funds to get some assured starters in the back line.

Took a 2 hour nap and the "miss one day at school" memes are suddenly much more understandable...

    - Doherty 99% at Spurs: Still should be a great option, Mourinho will likely use his off-the-ball movement more like he did with Ivanovic 2014/15 (4G 3A)

    - 8 Chelsea players in quarantine, Pogba and Ndombele both testing positive too

The season's going to be insane if this keeps up. It's also going to become more and more dangerous should nothing change and the chance of lockdown increases. That being said we saw how well Project Restart went, when the $'s were threatened so they'll probably figure it out. Nevertheless, it isn't a good look for anyone at the moment.

most of the quarantines and new cases seem to be from players being outside the normal bubble, going on holidays, going to parties etc, hopefully the more protective regime procedures as the start of season approaches will keep things in check

    Ramsdale (Nyland)
TAA / Doherty / KWP / Vinagre (Ferguson)
Salah / Auba / Willian / ASM (Bissouma)
    Werner / Ings ( Davis)

Solid - people will criticise Willian but you can pivot to Greenwood/Foden/Maddison etc if he doesn't work for you

That was exactly what I thought. He might become Pepe for first 2GW , if he starts in Community Shield. Otherwise, in GW3 I'll ditch him for Greenwood/Foden

Once a vaccine is discovered, FFS is going to have to have a page on which players have been vaccinated. Perhaps on the watchlist they can have a wee syringe or pill instead of the form letters which will be meaningless. Are they safe to play - yes or no, that’s all we’ll need to know.

If, rather than once I think. Plus 2 people yesterday re-caught it so no guarantee a vaccine would protect long term. Could be stuck with this.

Based on what? Dybala had the virus for like 6 weeks.

Based on recovery time of +95% of the football players and fit and healthy individuals in his age group. Dybala might have had it for longer but 1 or few examples in such a big sample doesn’t mean much.

Fair enough. Haven't done research on the average recovery time but I personally know a fit and healthy 22 year old that had it for almost two months so I assumed it wasn't as predictable as you suggest.

            1. Klaren
              • 7 Years

Just to be clear, there are cases who have the symptoms for much longer within the age group mentioned including some which, unfortunately, end up with death.

However existing and ongoing research indicates that this is very rare (findings range from 1% - 5% in different studies), hence my comment above assuming Pogba wouldn’t be in the 2nd group just based on the %s. Of course it’s not 100% certain though.

Mine would simply be Antonio to Brewster/4.5 and Messi in for Auba, I think. Means playing a 4.5 defender and Soucek every week though.

Salah would lose a lot of appeal too, though, so could downgrade him to raise the funds.

Was not playing fantasy at that time. I'm sure Ronaldo/Robin didn't had any alternative whereas Messi does have. Doubt he will even come close to likes of Salah/Aubameyang or even his team mate Kevin/Sterling.

Boring way of picking one player and sticking forever is not my cup of tea, would rather not play the game.

Im a WH fan. Fredricks has massively underwhelmed since he joined us. We released Jeremy Ngakia because we knew Ben Johnson was a better prospect, he really is held in high esteem.

Even better, he can play both fullback position (RB natural), so he has a very high chance getting mins.

Between him and Mitchell for my 4m defender at the moment.

    3Q’s :

    A) who is still sticking with Doherty from GW1 following Spurs transfer?
    B) are people still sticking with McCarthy? If not, who?
    C) is vinagre back into drafts?

    1. Flair
      • 4 Years

      A) I will, I expect Spurs second season defense to be elite. I'm confident Mourinho knows how he'll use Doherty, allowing him to push forward like Aurier did but hopefully with a emphasis on getting into the box instead of crossing. Not going to do the "wait and see" when Spurs fixtures are so good early doors.

      B) Until he gets displaced, he will stay.

      C) When did he leave?

    Rudak (4.0)

    Alexander-Arnold . Tierney . Fernández . (Justin . KWP)

    Salah . Auba . Alli . Soucek . Richie

    Werner . Adams . (4.5)

    2.5 ITB

No TX planned until flexibility to upgrade at later date - defence to incl Doh, Lap, Rob, mid to Rat boy, Greenw, attacker to Jimi or Mitro etc

    The Big 3 question.

In order to optimise both points and also Captain options on any given week, it would be ideal to have the choice of key assets from United, pool and city.

    So for example, Salah+Fernandes+KDB

Clearly though that is a big chunk of budget and affects the squad elsewhere.

For the extra money I feel Fernandes is worth it over rash or martial.

Of course, there's always the possibility that Foden or greenwood might step up too but that's a gamble.

The last thing I want to do is the hokey cokey wasting transfers...

I know I'm going to want all 3 at different stages so do I just bite the bullet and keep them?

Or play the value game swapping them in and out, which could lose value if they increase in price and also cost transfers?

I'm undecided but would be nervous without them. Any thoughts guys?

I think having those 3 for start of the season is perfectly fine. Then start downgrading them if they are not firing.

        This is my current thinking.

I don't think you can cover Salah or KDB/Sterling with cheaper Liverpool or City assets, but it'll be interesting if the cheaper United guys can give Bruno a run for his money. Like you say, it's easier to downgrade.

Yes plus Bruno just feels the best captain option when United have good fixtures atleast for start of the season. Martial & Rashford were not doing well away from home after restart.

Which fixtures do you think Bruno is the best captain option in?

There's CPL/bha in 2 and 3, but do you not think Auba/Salah with WHU/ARS are better options for those two?

            I don't think I'd captain a united player until GW9 myself.

I am happy to captain Bruno (bha) in GW3. Arsenal have got better defensively and the lower-half teams are not as good at home without fans.

I want Martial to compliment Fernandes during easy fixture runs. Will try and keep Bruno regardless.

my initial idea was Bruno+KDB + CAPTAIN (so Salah/Mane/Sterling) but Greenwood and Son are making it difficult

This is why FPL have priced KDB very well. As a (non-captain) set and forget, he's outmaneuvered by Son and others for value.

Swop then around. I think Rash and Tony are just as good options. Bruno looked poor to me the last 4-5 weeks. Living off Pens. Salah comes in and out of form and always has. KDB is the one I want all season

Bruno just looked really tired to me, hoping a bit of rest will do him good, plus it's a bit of a risk not to have a space for him if he starts well, he's instrumental to the utd attack imo

I presume for this to work you start with 3x 12m players?

I think go with 2 at a time based on who you're going to captain.

The first 7 GWs looks like the Salah show to me aside from GW 2 and 5 - I'll be starting with Auba to cover GW2, and will maybe get Sterling in to cover 5 (unless Werner is hot).

I am going to have two at a time until maybe I am rich enough to have three. I don't consider it "hokey cokey" as long as I'm leaving each one in for 6-8 weeks before switching. Bruno and KDB from week 3-9 seems good, then at GW10 there is a fixture swing which I'll address by reducing investment in United to get more Liverpool.

Pogba, Jorginho, Barkley, Emerson, Batshuayi, Mount, Tomori, Abraham and Pulisic have all tested positive for Coronavirus this week, are there any other PL players to add to that list ?

Don't do that if you have the bench to cover it...

I'd rather have Son and then decide what to do GW3 with an Auba downgrade if you go that route.
