Pro Pundits - Andy

Should we sell or hold Timo Werner ahead of FPL Gameweek 4 and who are the best replacements?

It is fair to say that Timo Werner (£9.4m) has not started life in the Premier League as Fantasy managers had hoped he would.

Chelsea have scored six in their first three matches but their new forward has managed just one assist in that run.

So the question is: Is it time we looked to replace Werner? And if so who for? In this article I want to talk about the possible options.

As it uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area, only those with a valid subscription can access it in full.

Barkley at 5.9 playing every week for Villa is interesting. Not for a few weeks but could be a gem as cheap 4th mid

A 5.9 midfielder needs to be a starting surely?

So many options at 5.5 or less if you're not going to start them regularly. Several options under 5.0 even who always start and can pick up 2 points when required. I'm not a fan of many of the 6/ 6.5 options this season, they seem no better than lots of cheaper options and not nearly the potential of the 7+ options. Foden now 6.6 is the pick and will almost certainly be great value, but needs to be paired with a reasonable bench often as will likely be rested some games

Barkley will be a starter. No good for that price at Chelsea, but at Villa he'll be nailed. Replace either Hourihane or McGinn, both of whom have made great starts in their 2 games.

Better cheaper options elsewhere + Grealish is the asset from Villa you want to get

    Starting squad for GW4:
    McCarthy
    Doherty TAA Justin
    Salah (c) Barnes Rodriguez Soucek
    Vardy DCL Ings (vc)
    Subs: Nyland Reed Mirchell Saliba
    3.6m INB, 0 FT

    Best move:
    A) Soucek to Mahrez for -4?
    B) Doherty to (??) for -4?
    C) Soucek to (??) for -4?

    Sorry for repost.

    What option?

    A) Play Bissouma and bench Son
    B) Son to Rash/Barnes/Hamez/Mahrez -4
    C) WC

    McCarthy-4.0
    TAA-Vinagre-Justin-Johnson-Mitchell
    Salah-Kdb-Son-Podence-Bissouma
    Jimenez-Adams-Martial

    1. 0 itb and I took a hit last GW(as great as that was :/).

      Bissouma suspended

A lot of potential non-players in your team! Vinagre, Johnson, Adams could all be on benches. Then Son and Bissouma def out and Podence could be injured!

Mitchell and Justin could lose their places in the not to distant future when PVA and Pereira are back fit!

Soon you could only have McCarthy, TAA, Son, KDB, Salah, Podence, Bissouma, Jimenez and Martial actually playing!
I expect Johnson to start for West Ham eventually as well though. A lot of gambles in your squad though, could be great, could be a struggle. I've started super safe with locked in starters throughout

Do we know who West Broms pen taker is? Im tempted by Pereira as a cheap option to enable pool double up or Ings up top. 6.4m to spend max.

Callum Robinson, their 1st striker, has never taken a penalty before (other than penalty shootouts). So very unlikely to take one, Pereira is more likely compared to him.

Yeah, they won't struggle. Lower-mid table, I'd say. Somewhere around 13th. In FPL terms that makes them a team full of nicely-priced assets.

Not enough respect put on Vardy’s name. Top scorer this season, top scorer last season, and wasn’t far off being top the season before!

2 decent home games incoming, both manager and player said he will be fine for weekend.

Why is he not in many teams?!

Going into GW1, Werner was on my mind but was never hugely in contention to get into my team. I just thought the likes of Kane, Ings and Jimenez who are +/- 1M from Werner were much better options. The three of them are premier league proven players who you know who can return on a regular basis, while we had no data on Werner who came from a completely different league. Even if Werner hit the ground running I could of easily brought him in with a transfer early on. Same goes for Havertz, I wouldn't get him in until I had premier league data. I started off with Kane and Ings which has rewarded me with 50 points between them in 3 GW's. Just my play style really, I don't like punting on players with no data but if they do start off with a good run of form I will have a plan to get them in.

Not at all. Just giving my opinion on what I thought was the best option going into GW1 in terms of unknown players. As much as I am happy with my forward pair of Kane and Ings people who started off with DCL and Vardy have jumped me.

The point is Chelsea are not playing to Werner's strengths and at present, from an FPL perspective he is a glorified winger with minimal goal threat if you compare his runs and positions from wide to Son, Salah, Mane, Rashford, Greenwood and co.

His potential will be unlocked when they start putting him through the middle and Ziyech is fit again. At the moment there is 0 creativity with Kante and Kovacic. Mount and Abraham are not good passers either. The only one who can spot his runs are Jorginho.

      You put it perfectly.

Still an owner and still thinking if I should save ft this week. Saving would be quite easy decision despite your rationale if Jimmy didnt have the dream fixture next and really good ones after that as well.

Is this worth a wildcard after the international break?

    McCarthy - Nyland*
    TAA - Robbo - Semedo - Holding - Johnson*
    KDB - Bruno - Rodriguez* - Pereira - Soucek
    Jimenez - Martial* - Davis*

    1. Want to upgrade Nyland to Martinez/Ryan and potentially rotate goalies
    2. Johnson & Davis are poor 4.0/4.5 selections, Dunne & Brewster are better shouts I think
    3. Could do Martial & Davis to DCL & Maupay alternatively
    4. Not convinced yet by Rodriguez, may be best player in any given game but will he be best points/£ value?
