Son Heung-min the most-owned FPL asset in ‘template’ Wildcard squads

Son Heung-min‘s (£9.2m) second haul of 2020/21 inevitably led to a huge surge in demand, with just under two million more Fantasy Premier League managers recruiting the Korean midfielder ahead of Gameweek 5.

Son is indeed the most-owned player in both the top 10k and overall template Wildcard squads, featuring in over 80% of these teams in both instances.

CHECK YOUR LIVE FPL RANK HERE

The squads above are closely matched as one would expect, with only two differences: Callum Wilson (£6.5m) and James Justin (£4.7m) feature in the top 10k Wildcard template team, with Patrick Bamford (£5.8m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) taking their places in the overall set-up.

The top 10k Wildcarders have eschewed premium defenders above £6.0m, with both sets of managers also going with cheap options between the posts.

Over one in three FPL managers have now used their first Wildcards, with that figure down at around 25% for those inside the top 10k at the point of the Gameweek 5 deadline.

Around 60% of managers have yet to use a single chip in 2020/21, both within the top 10k and outside of it.

Over 10% of FPL bosses have used two or more of their chips, with the Triple Captain the next most-popular option after the Wildcard.

Back to Gameweek 5 and there’s a real split in terms of captaincy choices, particularly when we look at the overall picture.

Not one asset was backed with the armband by more than 18% of FPL managers, with Son narrowly the most-popular pick.

Within the top 10,000, the situation is markedly different.

Harry Kane (£10.6m) was handed the captaincy by almost one in two of these high-flying managers ahead of Spurs’ match against West Ham United.

Indeed, only Mohamed Salah (£12.3m) features in more of the top 10,000 teams than Kane – the in-form striker’s ownership is at 70.43% within the leading pack but down at 28.85% overall.

Wilfried Zaha (£7.2m) is an interesting inclusion in the midfield of around one in five squads in the top 10k.

One in four managers overall will be forced into a transfer if Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) is, as rumoured, ruled out for a long period of time.

A similar number still own Kevin De Bruyne (£11.6m) despite the Belgian being red-flagged. Even at this early stage of the campaign, “ghost teams” will be starting to skew those overall figures.

    Plan was to do either
    a) Bruno to Salah
    b) Werner to Aguero

Now after both hauling I’m not sure.... Salah looks like the obvious captain pick next week and Utd have Chelsea and Arsenal next... but can I really transfer out Bruno after the game he had today? Could easily have been 20+ pts

Sterling was a striker today as much as Aguero which was surprising. And made this Sterling owner happy.

But City played an odd 4 2 2 2 roaming formation where Sterling played behing and uptop with Aguero

and in later second half drifted left.

Im still holding out the opinion the higher price forwards will need to do alot to justify their prices over the mids.

Im still slowly moving to this team below , with no hits by week 9 when I replace Son with KDB for City nice fixtures. Anyone else with longterm plans?

I only currently dont have KDB from my eventual longterm line up - but need to sell Saiss and Justin over next few weeks as their fixtures turn to get KDB money

    Week 9 team
    Meslier
    Ayling TAA Robbo
    Salah Sterling Hamez KDB*
    DCL Antonio Brewster

I do have a backup one week punt lined up that week actually where I do Son to United midfielder as a place holder for KDB for when United play WBA at home.

So you may be surprised 🙂

Spurs have terrible fixtures after week 8

Going Son to United week 9, then KDB from week 10 is very nice fixture run from now until week 20.

City have the best fixtures from week 10 to 20. Sterling and KDB will easily outscore Spurs then, who have their hardest run of fixtures as City turn nice.

A simple gamble, even more appealing now with KDB losing more and more owners prior to week 9/10.

Theres nothing much left after that team ( run it through the prices and its over 101mil)

But i plan no rotation of that 11 up to second wildcard as Brewster Ayling Antonio all have nice fixtures from week 9 to 19

Bissouma will be there to cover any random rests.

How do you plan to target City? Look at their fixtures from then on. One city doesnt seem enough.

And no Salah? He has leicester home and then Brighton

Plus Antonio is a must from then on, week 8 even actually.

I can also above have a United player for one week before getting KDB to cover any united performance at home to WBA.

Don't need Salah if I'm not captaining him. I like the spread of the funds i have without him. I prefer Maupay over Antonio. Will switch kdb to mane for liverpools fulham match in gw12 and back to kdb for west brom match in 13

Surely you could have got Kane and Kept Salah?

I have double Liverpool defence, Sterling Salah, Hamez , DCL and Son and can get Kane this week coming for a -4 without losing any of my midfielders to fund it.

I think I'll be fine without Salah. I understand u don't rate Bruno. I also disagree because he will get a lot of penalty goals and a few freekick goals and just has to score a few from open play to get to around 250 points and also think that extra 1.5 i get for Bruno over Salah lets me make a better team overall.

            Fair enough

But week 10 has City playing WBA Fulham etc all in coming rounds

And sheffield also have their best fixtures of the season. Brewster could get 2's for 4.5mil and i wont worry too much if it means i get double city for those fixtures.

There's also the risk of rotation because of champions league matches in midweek. Im not too keen on double city especially with the easy fixtures where sterling could easily be benched

Stay the course, as long as you had sound reasoning for your decisions the rest is variance.

Yeah a good advice but the more and more I think the initial team was actually quite good. But yeah there are many good players players in this game, one of the weeks one will score and next the other.

However I sometimes think I'm really unlucky in this game (like finishing regularly on huge amounts of minus luck on fpl review but also things that site can't measure like having your captain with low ownership goal disallowed by Var in the last minute by a nanometer (not today) or your captain having the 2nd game of the DGW called off). Maybe it's just small sample and variance or maybe just something in the decision making.

      I am sorry for that.

It is almost every year that a great many complain that they got a lot more points with their team before the wildcard than with the team immediately after the wildcard. This game takes patience. So far I have only really seen the patient being rewarded and the impatient, who question players after every game, experience their disaster.

      1. Sgt Frank Drebin
        • 8 Years
        4 years, 24 days ago

Generally I prefer to stick with players even if they do not deliver but have good underlying stats but also sometimes too much patience is not good either. If someone's is just not poor option there is no point in being stubborn and keeping him in hope that this week he will finally deliver. A good compromise is needed between the two I think.

        1. Sgt Frank Drebin
          • 8 Years

And I say that from my experience because often I've been way too patient than I should and not taking the risk could also not be a good thing

      Thats what this game is

      Focus on outcome over decision

Some you win some you lose

Ive sold now Son and Rashford before they both hauled for a combined nearly 50 points in the coming 2 weeks after i sold them.

      You just move on.

Anything you’d change here/look to prioritise? On 14 atm with only 3 playing.

    Martinez (Steer)
Trent - Saiss - Taylor (Lamptey & Dallas)
Salah - KDB - Son - Podence (Burke)
    DCL - Jimmy - Maupay

Cheers 🙂 Off to a really good one this season, hoping I can keep it up. Hard to recognize there's so much quality in the prem this season that sometimes the best option is to just stick with your bigger guns and with the cheapies just play the fixtures - today I was kicking myself for missing out on Salah and Bruno but its days like this its just clear you can't have them all and have to play your own game

TAA and McCarthy both notched one point
Did KdB and Shaw > Dallas and Trossard (-4) this week

You can even stab or shoot an opposing player so long as he is offside.

What to do with Pool defenders if VVD is out long term?

First time i think to sell TAA,cant see many CSs without VVD.

I've got the double and at the very least I wouldn't be selling in the next two (SHU WHU). Pool didn't look all that leaky in the 80 minutes without VVD and both fullbacks looked quite attacking as usual. I understand the TAA gripes but twice he had good opportunities from free kicks in this match. The narrative is so different if one goes in. He'll get a 15 point in the next 4 matches and you won't want to have sold before it

Fabinho should move the CB with Naby Keita returning to midfield pending Thiago injury.
I would sell Trent to Chilwell as the 2m extra can be spent in mid fwd
      Keeping Robbo myself

Have Chilwell, thinking about PVA if hes on set pieces/penalties.
Feels strange with no Poll defense after 2-3 years but could work out.

With Cooper injured I think there is now. It seems Ayling might have to cover at CB a bit more in the short term if i'm not mistaken. Definitely monitor in the match vs wolves their positioning. Dallas has the bigger goal threat as well.

Good question. Ayling was the one who was supposed here to be better option, but I really don't know. Dallas is higher on fplstatistics.

Aguero every day of the week

Your trying to pick the player for the next 5 games not the last 5 games
