Salah on target as Liverpool assets prosper at Leeds

We continue our Scout Notes of the weekend’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) matches with analysis of Leeds United v Liverpool.

For a recap of all of Saturday’s action, check out our Scoreboard summary here.

LEEDS UNITED 0-3 LIVERPOOL

  • Goals: Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), Fabinho (£5.4m), Sadio Mane (£11.9m)
  • Assists: Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m), Thiago (£5.4m)
  • Bonus (projected): Alexander-Arnold x3, Alisson (£6.0m) x2, Thiago x1, Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) x1
  • Red cards: Pascal Struijk (£4.4m)

SALAH JOINS 100 CLUB

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) netted his 100th Premier League goal by slotting in from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s (£7.5m) perfect cross.

The Egyptian is the 30th player to have joined the ‘100 club’, with only four others reaching the milestone in fewer appearances.

In a match where Liverpool outshot their opponents 30-9, Salah was lively throughout, registering three shots in the box and 1.22 expected goals (xG).

He also came close to adding an assist when Thiago (£5.4m) headed home, but the Egyptian was a yard offside.

Liverpool doubled their lead after Leeds failed to clear an Alexander-Arnold corner, with Fabinho (£5.4m) smashing home from six-yards out, with Sadio Mane (£11.9m) firing in during injury time for the Reds third.

The Senegalese winger finally scored with his 10th shot and third big chance of the game.

Sadio Mane’s shot map v Leeds United in Gameweek 4

TRENT’S CREATIVITY

Alexander-Arnold served up his second double-digit haul of the season, via an assist, clean sheet and three bonus points.

The England international’s creativity was again on show, as he created five chances and attempted nine crosses. In fact, his totals of 20 chances created, including four big chances, are both more than any other player in the game.

Again, we saw plenty of infield movements, which is captured on his Gameweek 4 touch heat map:

It’s also worth noting that Diogo Jota (£7.7m) was a little unfortunate not to register an assist with six created chances, with Mane particularly wasteful in front of goal.

ELLIOTT INJURED

An excellent match was overshadowed by an unfortunate ankle injury to Harvey Elliott (£5.5m), who was stretchered off just after the hour mark.

As a result, Pascal Struijk (£4.4m) was sent off, and will now sit out Leeds’ next three fixtures.

LEEDS YET TO WIN IN LEAGUE

Following this afternoon’s defeat, Leeds are still yet to win in the Premier League, but with fixtures easing from Gameweek 5 to 10 (see below), the likes of Raphinha (£6.5m) and Patrick Bamford (£7.9m) still look like good options for our FPL squads.

Junior Firpo (£4.8m) took up some nice advanced positions, especially in the first-half, and could be one to add to the Watchlist, though Leeds will be without Struijk and possibly Diego Llorente (£4.5m), too, who limped off in the first-half with a hamstring injury.

LEEDS XI: Meslier, Ayling, Llorente (Struijk 33), Cooper, Firpo, Phillips, Dallas, Rodrigo (Roberts 45), Raphinha, Harrison (James 68), Bamford

LIVERPOOL XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Thiago (Keita 90+3), Elliott (Henderson 63), Salah, Mane, Jota (Oxlade-Chamberlain 82)

Had to WC to get Trent in. Thoughts on this WC team?

    Ramsdale/Sanchez • 4.0
TAA • Rudiger • Marcal • Livramento • Brandon Williams
    Salah • Jota • Raphinha • Gallagher • 4.5
    Ronaldo • DCL • Bamford/Jimenez/Antonio

Will give me 1m itb with Bamford and 1.5m with Jimenez/Antonio

Will do Ronaldo + Marcal to Lukaku + Reece James in gw7 for Chelsea's ridiculous run.

    Thoughts?

If I can suggest, I'd go with Semedo over Rudiger for a couple weeks, then bring James in for GW7.

Maybe try fitting in Dias or Cancelo.

I think maybe a little early for gallagher, maybe Gray first then switch to Gallagher

Just about taken #1 off Andy in the Top 10k league. Ran each other close, got Gray to go and White to come on.

Sitting just outside Top 600 OR so I'm pleased with the WC.

Hope it went as well for everyone else.

    Would you WC this team?

    Sanchez
    Shaw Ayling Livramento
    Salah Son Jota Benrahma
    Ronaldo Ings Antonio
    4m Gilmour Webster Tsimi

    1 FT 0.3 ITB

    Issues as I see it:
    No Trent
Son Antonio Webster Tsimikas not playing
    Ings Benrahma not performing

Ings is an issue with the fixtures coming up, Benrahma could still do something I think. With the injured players I would wait for more news and then decide if wc or not

I think I would still be tempted by "B". Price of CR7 likely to climb swiftly and may too expensive if left, and then not such an easy jump to Lukaku if wanted later.

Nah. If Antonio is 7.9 you're fine. Basically any 0.2, you'll get 0.1. If someone is 0.3 up, you'll still get 0.1 profit.

It would be for two week till wc, would never want him long term but this these fixtures i can see worse two week punts

Leeds of course have a history of been good going forward but the xG and big chances created are poor so far

So maybe a risky punt over raoh could be the way to go

Pepe is a punt, not a bad one, but Raph isnt highly owned enough to cause damage, you could also call Raph a punt

I do like Leeds and have no doubt then will turn it round but the form does look great for raph or for leeds so it does feel like a good chance to do something different (granted i don't love any of the other options either)

        Mahrez greenwood Salah benni

Lukaku only leaves me 5.8 for a mid, seel like it makes more sense to DCL and have a decent mid tbh

Have tismi so jota isn't an option, un less i keep Antonio go back 5 for a week witch could be an option tbf

      Assuming 19.3 itb for two?

Ronaldo and a 6.8 (Raphinha, Saka, Sarr etc)
Lukaku and a 7.8 (Greenwood, Jota, Pepe)

I think I’d go Lukaku and Jota.

Thems the breaks. We try, we fail, we go again! No player is a "MUst". It all depends on how you use the funds released. We are only 4 weeks in with another 34 to go, do NOT panic. Plenty of time left to sort your Team out.

Rasdale could well be the best 4.5 keeper if can keep his place. Arsenal defence isonly likely to improve with returning players and fixtures are mint for short/mid term.

Another O.K.ish Team. Having 3 big hitters plus TAA just unbalances the Team too much in my oppinion. However a uber cheap defence Liveramento, williams, White along with TAA does make it possible to get a half decent midfield. I would also look to a playing 5.5 Fwd, Dennis or Hwang (needs more time to check on nildness), rather than a nonplaying/2 pointer mid.

GW5 captaincy will be an interesting one

    Salah:
    - Just under 3 day turnaround from AC Milan on Wednesday night to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon
    - Palace will have had 7 days to rest & prepare from the Spurs game

    Ronaldo:
    - 5 days rest between Young Boys (oo-er!) on Tuesday night and West Ham on Sunday afternoon
    - West Ham have just under 3 days recovery from Thursday night in Croatia playing Dinamo Zagreb

    1. SADIO SANÉ
      • 9 Years

could depend on West Ham lineup vs DZ, not a huge squad but will be rotation - a knock for Rice or Soucek and they could be ripe for a battering

        • 14 Years

Yep if West Ham play the reserves they can give a better account of themselves on Sunday

If they play a full team on Thursday, Sunday will be a shock to their system & could be a very difficult day at the office

He'll always be involved - so dangerous

But Palace have really suprised me with how good they've been - they look like a proper team this year on the eye test

And statistically they're also sitting with one of the best XGc figures in the league at this point (5th in the table) - with a full week to prepare and with their work rate I'm not sure I see them getting embarrassed - more like a hard fought 1-0 or 2-1 maybe

        1. Sgt Frank Drebin
          • 7 Years

Very good points imho. But still not sure I can trust Ronaldo as much as I trust Salah. That's why probably I'm gonna go with the Egyptian, cannot say I'm 100% confident with this choice though. It's very possible I'm making the same mistake I did when Bruno first came to the PL and I ignored him for so long.

        2. Sgt Frank Drebin
          • 7 Years

Regarding xGc it's a bit small sample, but still they looked much better than in the last season and better than what we would have expected after the Chelsea game imho. I guess we must stop treating them as weaping boys but we'll see. On the other hand, Liverpool looked really great offensively today.

Team looks O.K. but what are you going to do when the City mids and Chelsea mids start firing? You can't captain all 3 big guns and so makes cost unsustainable.

          Lukaku and Gray = £ 17.1
          DCL and Mount + = £ 15.7

I know which pair and an extra 1.4 Million I would rather have 🙂
