Following the points bonanza of Gameweek 9, there were some more modest Fantasy Premier League (FPL) scores posted on Saturday.

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of the day’s games but in the meantime, our resurrected Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on from the day’s Gameweek 10 fixtures.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

INJURIES AND BANS

FPL Gameweek 10 round-up: Saturday review, injury news and the things we learned 17

Mason Mount (£7.6m) was transferred in by more FPL managers than any other player in the run-up to Gameweek 10 but he was a shock absentee from the Chelsea matchday squad on Saturday.

The Blues confirmed that Mount missed out through illness, with Thomas Tuchel so far not offering us more details on the issue.

Ben White (£4.4m) and Martin Odegaard (£5.5m) returned from illness and injury respectively for Arsenal’s win over Leicester City but Kieran Tierney (£4.9m) was again absent, with Mikel Arteta offering a fairly downbeat assessment of the left-back.

“He didn’t train with the team yesterday, he’s still not feeling good, he’s still in pain, and he is not comfortable when he’s running. He was struggling so we’re trying to help him as much as possible, we need him back and I don’t know when that will be.” – Mikel Arteta on Kieran Tierney

Liverpool lost Naby Keita (£5.0m) to a hamstring injury in the draw with Brighton, the same injury that saw Kristoffer Ajer (£4.5m) miss out on Brentford’s loss to Burnley. Bryan Mbeumo (£5.6m) recovered from a hamstring strain to make the matchday squad at Turf Moor but remained an unused substitute, while teammates Ethan Pinnock (£4.7m) and Vitaly Janelt (£5.0m) made playing comebacks.

“He showed me the hamstring and how people told me, it’s hamstring. I cannot say more.” – Jurgen Klopp on Naby Keita

On the suspension front, Aymeric Laporte (£5.5m) was dismissed for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity and will now miss the Manchester derby in Gameweek 11.

GAMEWEEK 10 TAKEAWAYS

FPL Gameweek 10 round-up: Saturday review, injury news and the things we learned 16
UNITED CHANGE SHAPE AND BETTER AT BOTH ENDS

After the misguided attempts to play Liverpool at their own pressing game last week led to a 5-0 humping, it always looked likelier that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would adopt a safety-first approach this week.

And so it transpired, with Solskjaer bringing in a third centre-half in the shape of Raphael Varane (£5.5m) alongside Victor Lindelof (£4.8m) and Harry Maguire (£5.4m).

The result was a much improved, more compact defensive display, although how much that owed to Spurs’ own attacking limitations – they have scored more league goals than just two other sides this season – is another question.

The Manchester derby follows next and City will not find it as easy to cut through the United backline as Jurgen Klopp’s troops, but will pose a darn sight more threat than a limp Spurs outfit who didn’t manage a single shot on target.

At the other end, Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.4m) benefitted from having a partner in the form of Edinson Cavani (£8.4m) alongside him, assisting the Uruguayan for the Red Devils’ second goal having scored a wonder-strike to break the deadlock.

Spurs, however, were abysmal and questions will be asked about their own Fantasy assets despite their forthcoming favourable run.

CORNET SCORES AGAIN

Maxwel Cornet (£6.0m) made it four goals in just 282 minutes of pitch-time with a superb strike in Burnley’s 3-1 win over Brentford. No FPL midfielder under £10.0m can better the Ivory Coast international – who was again stationed in a central role behind Chris Wood (£6.7m) – for goals scored in 2021/22, despite his shortage of first-team action.

Despite a paucity of clean sheets for Burnley, Matthew Lowton (£4.4m) moved up to third in the £4.5m-and-under defenders’ points table with his third and fourth attacking returns of the campaign.

ALL ABOARD THE PALACE TRAIN?

The headlines may say ‘Palace beat 10-man City’ but what shouldn’t be forgotten is that the Eagles were already 1-0 up by the time Laporte saw red, with Wilfried Zaha (£6.9m) and Conor Gallagher (£5.6m) putting in some convincing auditions ahead of their side’s favourable fixture run:

Image

Gallagher is now the highest-scoring FPL midfielder under £10.0m, having bagged his sixth and seventh attacking return of the campaign in the win at the Etihad.

At the back, Patrick Vieira’s side didn’t allow their hosts one big chance and now have the division’s third-best expected goals conceded (xGC) total this season.

RAMSDALE A SAFE PAIR OF HANDS

Aaron Ramsdale (£4.6m) produced a series of excellent stops to help Arsenal to a 2-0 win at Leicester. His save percentage (85%) and points-per-match average (5.6) are second only to those of Edouard Mendy (£6.1m) among first-choice goalkeepers this season, although some consideration has to be given to the calibre of opponent since he made his debut in Gameweek 4.

FEAST OR FAMINE FOR JAMES

Reece James (£5.6m) is now Chelsea’s leading goalscorer in the Premier League this season following his brace at Newcastle. Ben Chilwell (£5.9m) brought home two bonus points for his owners but otherwise took a backseat to his opposite wing-back, who has plundered 52 points in three of his seven appearances this season.

His scores this season sum up the rollercoaster nature of owning him in FPL: 1, 18, 1, 1, 1, 13, 21.

James now averages 8.0 points per match in 2021/22 and is among five Chelsea assets who lead the way for points per game among defenders (the below table doesn’t reflect today’s bonus points):

SALAH THE MOST-CAPTAINED…. EVER

Mohamed Salah (£12.9m) was made skipper by over 4.6 million managers in Gameweek 10, making him the most-captained player in a single Gameweek in FPL history.

A solitary assist in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Brighton was slightly underwhelming but few other legitimate captaincy alternatives did too much better elsewhere.

Above: The most-captained players among the top 10,000 FPL managers

STAT WATCH – GAMEWEEK 10

James can’t be bettered for shots on target in Gameweek 10 so far and was among the top ten performers for goal attempts, penalty box touches and efforts in the opposition area on Saturday.

FPL Gameweek 10 round-up: Saturday review, injury news and the things we learned 12

Youri Tielemans (£6.5m) created a joint-Gameweek-high five chances in the defeat to Arsenal, taking him to 12 key passes in the last four Gameweeks – a total beaten by only Bruno Fernandes (£11.7m) in that time.

Adam Armstrong (£5.9m), back in the Southampton starting XI, topped the day’s expected goal involvement (xGI) count. Despite his assist, however, his finishing continues to frustrate and he has now scored from just one of his 27 shots this season.

Been going through some NPxGA and xGADiff data for last 6 GWs.

Arsenal noted respectively 6.8 and 2.8, CP with 7.61 and -1.39, Brighton with 8.39 and 1.15.

Based on that, Brighton def points looking to be more or less on the expected levels, Arsenal overachieving but still best NPxGA, CP actually looking interesting having that 7ish during rather tougher fixtures yet also being on - Diff.

    Thoughts? Maybe Guaita over Ramsdale?

Yeah, got a goal and two assists last season(played around 1500 minutes) in a more defensive set-up and caught the eye as well. Has caught the eye yet again and hearing his underlying numbers are good too.

I brought in Guaita last night for Bachmann, only had 4.5 to spend and have White too, Guaita has same amount of points as Sanchez I think with one lest clean sheet

Not much between them, but no way am I going to use ft to ditch Ramsdale now. One injury to CP defender and their squad depth may become an issue, not certain though. The same can perhaps be said about White, but Arsenal is still better team and they were solid last spring also.

You're certainly doing a lot of homework on the keeper selection and kudos to you. It's one less FT down the line.

I like both. Guita has the fixtures, but I also like BHA def setup and upcoming fixtures. It therefore brings Sanchez back into the equation. How does he rank for those stats? Is 6 weeks too short a timeframe as it's very fixture dependant?

I reckon so. Back to the stats. Palace with the favourable upcoming fixtures edged by Arsenal with mixed, but a seemingly solid def (in general) since the latter part of last season. Good luck!

As a Maupay owner (I know) who planned to play him in 11 and 13 (NEW & LEE), was his absence yesterday just a tactical decision because it was Liverpool? Or is he simply not part of the XI now?

    1. Philosopher's Stones
      • 5 Years
      4 years, 1 month ago

Maupay one of the most frustrating players to own imo, and that's saying something because there are quite a few of them!
Yesterday it was more of a tactical decision to play Trossard as a false 9 to try stretch Liverpool.
Think Maupay won't start the tougher games more pften than not, but even against lesser teams, he is often found out as he's a championship striker at best.

Thanks I figured that would be the case - but Trossard looked good so the worry would be that that formation becomes the standard for all games. Guess we find out next week.

I know he is unbelievably frustrating to own from last year. But, it gets better, I picked him on wildcard as a rotation with Adam Armstrong (who I binned this week anyway for Hwang) lol.

But both were short term picks anyway.

The league form table is a mad old bstrd of a thing isn't it?

When you look at the form table since Matchday 24 of last season to matchday 10 of this season - the slating that Arteta tends to get, and the adulation that Rodgers tends to get, start to become a bit of a head-scratcher. And poor old Ole sitting only 7 points (rather than the 27 points it sometimes feels like) behind Chelsea & Man City... it's just bizarre

    Team: Points (Goals Scored:Conceded):
    1. Man City: 53 (57:23)
    2. Chelsea: 53 (46:15)
    3. Liverpool: 51 (53:21)
    4. Arsenal: 47 (40:29)
    5. Man Utd: 46 (43:29)
    6. FC Michail Antonio*: 43 (44:29)
    7. Spurs: 38 (39:39)
    8. Leicester: 37 (44:42)

*All teams played 25 games except FC Michail Antonio who have only played 24 + lots of manually adding stuff so there might be a number out here or there

It does look like a pretty cut & dried top 3 this season though - but a potential ding-dong battle between utd & arsenal for fourth - especially considering gunners don't have European distractions

      • 5 Years
      4 years, 1 month ago

Interesting. I got into an argument the other day saying that Arsenal can definitely grab that 4th spot this season, and also that their main comp for it is West Ham and Utd - pretty much exactly backed up by this. (But maybe if its this tight we should aim for the title lol)

Leicester can get back in the mix for top 4 once Brendan finally decides what his first 11 should be.

      1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
        • 15 Years
        4 years, 1 month ago

Yup - Arsenal have basically low-key turned into a champions league level side over the last two thirds of a season

When you see the likes of Ramsdale for 4.5m, White for 4.4m, ESR for 5.5m (Swiftly developing into one of the biggest pricing mistakes in the game), Saka for 6.5m...

Auba is the really interesting one - if he finds his shooting boots for a flurry of 3-4 games he can churn out points like nobody's business with penalties etc

The no-europe thing will be huge for them too - literally every other team in that top 8 is messing about with midweek european games in some format or other

        1. Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabadoo
          • 5 Years
          4 years, 1 month ago

Yeah lack of Europe is a big factor and really was an issue last year faffing about with Dundalk and the like.

It feels like Arteta has finally been given permission to do what he wanted, building a team that is compact yet capable of pressing, and that includes Auba and Lacazette, which you could have never imagined at our low point around last xmas. (I do think Auba in the press will make him a better player, and us a better team, but limit his fpl output)

As a transfer model, you can also do a lot worse than just buying 23 year olds, and we've got some good ones.

I personally think Ole and Arteta are doing a good job with what they have. Still not sure what to make of Rodgers especially after starting the season with Nacho on the bench.

That was mental from Rodgers - I think he's thrown away at least 5-6 points, if not more, by benching Nacho - the guy was absolutely on fire for the final third of last season

Obviously I wasn't comparing them to Brighton.

United Arsenal Tottenham are battling it out for 4th 5th and 6th which is roughly where they are and roughly where they will end up.

Their teams are not as good as City Pool Chelsea.

The midfield is so important. A team with McTominay Fred Matic and Pogba (don't get me started on him) will not compete with a team with a midfield of Hendo Keita Fabinho Thiago over a season.

I love United and Ronaldo but expectations should be realistic. United fans are expecting too much like Arsenal fans did for a long time.

Don’t agree. Man United should be challenging for the title with their squad and they’re getting hammered 5-0 at home. Whereas Arsenal’s team isn’t good enough for that ‘yet’.

Actually good point - The same table with net transfer spend over the last 24 months maybe buys Rodgers [£61m] a bit of slack over Arteta [£181m] in fairness:

Team: Points (Goals Scored:Conceded) [Net Xfer spend last 2 seasons]:
          1. Man City: 53 (57:23) [£170m]
          2. Chelsea: 53 (46:15) [£168m]
          3. Liverpool: 51 (53:21) [£70m]
          4. Arsenal: 47 (40:29) [£181m]
          5. Man Utd: 46 (43:29) [£157m]
          6. FC Michail Antonio*: 43 (44:29) [£73m]
          7. Spurs: 38 (39:39) [£118m]
          8. Leicester: 37 (44:42) [£61m]

    GW7: Antonio(C) 4 vs Salah 26
    GW8: Mahrez (C) 6 vs Salah 26
    GW9 Havertz (C) 6 vs Salah 48

    Thats 94: 2 = 47 points lost to Salah(C). Would have brought me from 652 points(120k OR) to 699 points (5k OR).

If I move my captaincy I get it wrong every time so I just leave it on Salah. My one punt this season (Lukaku) went horribly wrong too so won't be making that mistake again

All of those were risks worth taking imo. So many people are results oriented and will say in hindsight it was a huge error to go against Salah but if you get it right the reward is massive.

I'm strongly considering Auba (c) next week.

GW6: Villa were out of form at the time and Ronaldo had scored 4 goals in his first 3 games in all competitions. Captaining him over Salah at Brentford was fine.
GW8: One of the best attacks in the league at home vs Norwich.
GW9: One of the best attacks in the league at home vs Norwich.

Okay, with Ronaldo I can perhaps agree. But Havertz is no Lukaku and giving armband to him was serious overthinking. All it takes is to check his history as a goalscorer in PL.

Not sure why his history should matter. It's a one off game against the worst defence in the league and we know he's starting upfront because of injuries. Of course it was a risk, that doesn't mean it was over thinking or a bad move.

I get the feeling that most people did not see the United collapse coming until recently. I've found them overrated for weeks calling them a banter club because the only teams they hadn't struggled against all season were Newcastle and Leeds.

And Villa were not out of form at the time. They are out of form now. They had been impressing in the prior weeks. So I was unsure about whether United could win, so much so that I did not even own Ronaldo that week while he had an EO of 140% or something.

Think the Mahrez punt in GW8 was ok. Mahrez 100 % to start for ManC at home vs Burnley. Salah away vs Watford with a new manager could be a tough game. Giving the armband to Havertz is just mad.

How was giving the armband to Havertz mad? They literally won 7-0. Ridiculously bad luck for him to get nothing and for Salah to then go get four returns at Old Trafford.

It was still Watford though. And City could rout Burnley 5-0, and it could be a haul from Mahrez or Foden or Sterling, etc. The goals are so spread out that it's a lottery to get it right. I would say the same thing about Mount cappers for his haul. On paper, bad choice, but they got lucky

And, if United plays that way they did Vs Spurs, they will be ripped apart afain by City. If he plays that system, Bernard, Foden and co will know what to do. Højbjerg, Lo celso and Skipp not seeing the holes dies not mean United suddenly knows have to defend.

I almost agree. Wasn't it Laporte who basically lost the match "alone". If it happens once, it's players fault, if it happens twice, the manager is the one to blame. And Pep doesn't hesitate to bench or drop players. Remember Sane and Sterling for example. And he has dropped Laporte for Stones before.

Would love some help! My rival is absolutly destroying me, and a lot of cash at stake.

    His team

    Sanchez/ foster
    James, rudiger, livramento,, White, henry
    Salah, Mount, grealish, sarr, townsend
    Ronaldo, roney, antonio

    My team

    Foster /ramsdale
    Cancelo, dias, taa, rudiger, livramento
Salah, raphinia, sarr, mbuemo, Douglas luiz
    Vardy, Antonio, jiminez

    I have 2 ft and 1.9 mitb

    What to do?

    A) Sarr and dias > foden and chillwell
    B) sarr and vardy > son and toney
    C) other transfers?

Well my first thought is that your team is better.. which is good. And quite rightly Sarr out is imperative, even moreso as your rival has him.

A is basically form, and B is basically fixtures. So I would go B if I was trying to catch up...

Would be incredibly tight, but what about Antonio to Toney and Sarr to ESR and then Raph to Son the week after? (this mirrors my own moves)

Yes guilty of that one, Its wasn't the FPL herd, it was I had Vardy and 3 Man City players, so playing the odds really.

I was more likely to drop Dias and play Gallagher to spread the risk but didn't (as I already have Cancelo). That's is the one I regret more.

I have no regrets with the Raph to Foden move long term no matter what happens today

29 points in team 29 points on the bench. My own stupid fault, but I would have played Foster over Ramsdale given the choices. It was a worldly goal by Che Adams, which he doesn't do very often (and missed a sitter), but Armstrong did live up to with I will shoot a lot from distance.

I just didn't anticipate that wonder save and how poor Leicester was going to be

Last chance saloon for Raphinha today right?

Absolutely not - single gameweeks are riddled with randomness

Raphinha is one of the best value players in the game - we're just still in very small sample size territory with him

You're wasting your time. This place is dominated by points chasers and results oriented thinkers.

I think so, might give him Leicester as well and will ship out regardless to be honest

I think so. I like the look of Gallagher for a million cheaper. Leeds are really bad atm and it’s not helping Raphinha

He might be excellent value price wise and ability wise but Leeds are not ticking at the moment

It was the last chance saloon for Gallagher when he had went 2-4-2-2 in GW5-8 then followed it up with another 2 in GW9 to make it 12 points from 5 games...

Then he double returns, becomes flavour of the week again...

People need to learn to have patience with quality - form/injury/international travel is temporary - Raphinha's class is permanent

It's between Gallagher and Mbeumo for me. With Gallagher I fear that I will bench him when he does well. Mbeumo on the other may hit the post again a couple or times.

For sure feels like a last chance. Even tho he is great, Leeds are terrible this year. Feels like chasing last seasons points owning him right now

Hard to say. If he starts and does F-all, then I'd be inclined to sell him yes.

If he is on the bench (i.e almost recovered, but not fit enough to start this game, but definitely back next week) then I will still need to carefully consider it.

If he plays, he's generally as good an option there is at that price range.

Mbeumo has Norwich next, so I am tempted. Would also like to ditch Dias tbh.

Considering this myself…downgrading him to Mbeumo give me money for Havertz - Son the week after.

      Yes.
This run of fixtures should have been huge for him. It ain't going to get any better now.
I took him out for ESR last night to beat the pricing, but I think I'll WC anyway this week.

      Yes I think so

Not for me. I'll give him Leicester at home even if he blanks. I may sell after that because I assume he's likely to miss the game after the international break.

Not as many fixtures for Brazil this IB. Brazil players have plenty of time to get back to the UK this time around.

Is this final? They have a game with Argentina that needs to be rescheduled.

As the reverse fixture is already midweek during the next IB there's really no chance it can be shoehorned in then. January or March are still possibilities.

    Friends,

    Ramsdale (Foster)
    TAA, Dias, Cancelo, Azpilicueta (Livramento)
    Salah, Foden, Raphinha (Mbeumo, Luiz)
    Vardy, Antonio, Toney

With 2 ft, should I bring in James/Chilwell in for Azpilicueta sooner rather than later? Or should I just wait and assess?

    What would you sort first?

    All ready got 3 Ars!

    Sa,
    Gray
    Teirney
    Back up keeper for BB

    Sa
    Cancelo, Rudiger, Chilwell
    Salah, Saka, Gray, Foden
    Vardy, Toney, Auba

    4.0, Livramento, Tierney, Sissoko

    1.3

    1. thegaffer82
      • 14 Years
      4 years, 1 month ago

Definitely not a back-up keeper for BB.
Shame your 4.0 isn't Foster because at least he plays - even if returns are few and far between.

I'd be tempted to do Gray > Mbuemo for their fixtures. I know they were poor against Burnley, but Norwich should be an easier test and Mbuemo himself has looked pretty good. Should have at least 2 more goals to his name than he does.

      LOL.

This sounds like a kind of situation we faced not long ago where everyone needed 3 Premiums because Lukaku, CR7 & Salah were all ripping it up.

In a few weeks you'll be looking to get rid of at least 2 of them I would guess. Foden will probably score v Utd, Jota might start scoring big points, Raphina goes mental today etc....
Just play week by week and if you want to add one from that list that week, go for it. But I wouldn't be taking hits or anything to get that MF!

Anyone considering to play Livramento over Cancelo this coming GW?

Man Utd will be 5 at the back again and playing purely on the counter attack - which is definitely their main strength. And, they will probably beat Man City as a result. Cancelo might get an attacking return of course, but doubtful.
