Thursday team news: Salah returns as a substitute for Liverpool

The final two matches of Gameweek 24 take place tonight, with Liverpool v Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers v Arsenal kicking off at 19:45 GMT.

The big team news comes from Anfield, where Mohamed Salah returns as a substitute, having missed the Reds’ last six games in all competitions due to his participation with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Sadio Mane, however, is not involved as expected, but January signing Luis Diaz is handed a first start, and will feature alongside Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino up front.

For Leicester, Brendan Rodgers makes five changes to the side that lost heavily at Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on Sunday, with the likes of Caglar Soyuncu, Youri Tielemans, Harvey Barnes and Kelechi Iheanacho dropping to the bench.

That means Patson Daka leads the line, having been directly involved in seven goals in just nine Premier League appearances so far, with James Maddison, Marc Albrighton and Ademola Lookman in support.

At Molineux, Francisco Trincao returns from Covid for Wolves, whilst Romain Saiss is back after AFCON.

Marcal is preferred to Rayan Ait-Nouri, who is a substitute, along with Jonny, who hasn’t played since last March because of a serious knee injury.

Mikel Arteta, meanwhile, welcomes back Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka from suspension, plus Cedric from injury, who starts at right-back with Takehiro Tomiyasu missing out.

      Personally wouldn’t take out KDB before Norwich for a ManU player that are in terrible form. Even with the double.
      You already have Ron and DDG.
      Would even consider captaining KDB or give Ron one last go.

      I’d swap KDB for Salah next week.

      To not burn the FT maybe lose King or Dennis before the price drop.

    Gameweek 26 Chip rethink:

    Evening everyone. Are we missing a golden opportunity by free hitting 11 players with a double gameweek and captaining Mo in GW 26 rather than following the herd and triple captaining Mo and having about 6-7 with a DGW in our starting 11?

        Cheers for your thoughts. Yes DGW 36 is predicted to be bigger but as it’s SO close to the end of the season that if matters are settled re who is staying up and who will be in Europe will teams be at their best or play their strongest sides? Tinkering for DGW 26 would leave my team worse off for week 27 when most will be free hitting. Just something to ponder.

      With those fixtures and no attacking injuries in the Liverpool squad, Salah will have his minutes managed in the double with the CL game a few days before it and a cup final against Chelsea a few days after it.

      I am looking at BB at the moment in 26 with 3 free transfers to get players that have doubles in 26 and a fixture in 27.

      I may bottle it and just TC Salah though when push comes to shove 🙂

        A few teams with SGWs have decent fixtures e.g. Villa vs. Watford, West Ham vs. Newcastle, Man Utd vs. Leeds. Man City can definitely put goals past Spurs on the back of yesterdays performance etc.
