FPL Gameweek 3 team news: Injury updates from Thursday’s pressers

Five Premier League pre-match press conferences were held on Thursday as the countdown to Gameweek 3 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) continues.

We’ll have all the injury updates, team news and key manager quotes as they come in.

As well as the five managers speaking to the media today, 15 more will follow on Friday and we’ll be bringing you a round-up of those pressers in another piece tomorrow.

KEY UPDATES

Thursday’s presser times are listed below:

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Antonio Conte has confirmed that Sergio Romero will miss the Saturday lunchtime clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers after feeling “a bit of pain in his adductor” following the draw with Chelsea last weekend.

Oliver Skipp (foot) remains out but Conte expects him to start running next week, while Clement Lenglet is available.

Conte was asked whether any of his new signings could start this weekend, with Ivan Perisic the main name of note from an FPL perspective.

“We are playing one game a week and for this reason, I think especially at the start, I am trying to play with the players who know me much better and know our idea of football.

“But we are exploiting this time to bring players like Richie, Lenglet, Bissouma, Perisic and Spence… to understand to go into our idea of football.

“But I am really pleased because we are doing the right steps and we are ready when we have game every three days to make rotations.” – Antonio Conte

LEICESTER CITY

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Harvey Barnes is back from injury and should be available for selection this weekend.

Ryan Bertrand (knee) and Ricardo Pereira (Achilles) remain out.

“Harvey Barnes, it’s great news for us, he’s been back in training. That’s really good for us. He’s looked excellent and fit and had a really good pre-season. It was a blow to lose him for the opening few games but he should be available.

“We will decide whether he will be in from the start. He’s looked good in training. He’s had a really good pre-season. He may be available to start, maybe not [play] the full 90 minutes, but we’ll assess that tomorrow after the final session.

“It certainly opens up that possibility [of changing formation to a 4-3-3] when you have at least one winger who gives you that pace and width in the game.

“It’s always important for how we play, that width. We always try to be flexible in how we play. But of course, when you’re limited, when he was out, we had to adjust.” – Brendan Rodgers

SOUTHAMPTON

Romain Perraud (leg), Tino Livramento (knee) and Theo Walcott (match fitness) all remain sidelined for the trip to Leicester City but Che Adams is available for selection despite missing training earlier in the week.

“After the last game we had only a problem with Ché [Adams], he wasn’t training until today. Today he was stepping back in the session. Missed a few sessions this week but is available.

“The longer-term injuries… Romain [Perraud] is still not available because he was also out for the last game, and Tino [Livramento].

“[Theo Walcott] is also not training with the team. He missed the whole of pre-season with injury and is on his way back with the team, every day training.” – Ralph Hasenhuttl

Ralph Hasenhuttl hinted that he would stick with a wing-back system in Gameweek 3, despite switching to his previously favoured 4-2-2-2 in the closing stages of the comeback draw against Leeds United.

“We have invested a lot of energy to play in this [3-5-2] shape. What we played at the end of the last game [a 4-2-2-2] was an ‘all-in’, what is also sometimes working, but you have to be careful when you use it.” – Ralph Hasenhuttl

BOURNEMOUTH

Dominic Solanke (ankle) will be assessed tomorrow after missing out last weekend but Joe Rothwell (thigh), David Brooks (match fitness) and Ryan Fredericks (match fitness) are not available.

“David [Brooks]… is with the team in modified training. I’d like to think that maybe over the next week to 10 days we can start pushing him into full training and then from there, try get him up to a level and speed to participate at Premier League level.

“Team news is probably similar to last week. Dominic Solanke, maybe. We’ll assess that tomorrow. Regarding Joe Rothwell and Ryan Fredericks, it will be too early for them to come back in at the weekend. Other than that, everyone else has come out of last weekend all good. We’re fully fit in that sense.” – Scott Parker

“There’s definitely a chance. Obviously Marcos came in, we didn’t think [the Man City defeat] was the right game for him and certainly he’d barely had any work with us. We feltt it was a good decision to let him watch from afar. He’s had another week of training. He’s in a better place to maybe get a shirt at the weekend. But again, we’ll see exactly where we are tomorrow. I’ll make that call on it.” – Scott Parker on whether Marcos Senesi could start

NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Steve Cooper confirmed on Thursday that Ryan Yates and Steve Cook are back in training after injury; Cook actually made the bench last weekend despite being ruled out of the game by his manager.

Jack Colback is still suffering with illness, however, and Omar Richards (leg) is a longer-term absentee.

“Ryan Yates is back in training, that’s positive. Steve Cook is back in full training. Jack Colback is still suffering with his illness.” – Steve Cooper

Moussa Niakhate, who appeared to come off last weekend with a muscle issue, wasn’t spotted in the midweek collection of training ground images, and Cooper would only say “we’ll see” when asked how long the defender would be out.

“Maybe. We’ll see!” – Steve Cooper on whether his latest new signings could feature this weekend

Literally do have a whole new squad yes. From the team that started against West Ham at the weekend, only 3 were with us last season.

I'd say he was always a dead duck tbh. Started GW1 because Yates is injured, since then we've signed about 3 more midfielders too. So to answer your question - yes.

Why are so many people binning Trippier because of one bad fixture? He's nailed, gets forward, involved in set pieces, plays in a stable defence... Don't get it.

I know Liverpool aren't in red hot form, but playing them away isn't ideal in GW5.

I myself still have him (on the bench for this gameweek).
I believe many have taken him with the idea to transfer out on GW 3 ( which I generally believe to be a bad strategy). Also, many wanted to downgrade a defender in order to free some funds for other positions, and Teippier is 5.0, and people don't want to sell TAA, Cancelo, James.
Also it seems that Zincenko is a better pick and many are jumping on. People are also buying Walker which is the same price.

I was happy to keep and was only going to bench him against City, but looking at James' fixtures for the next 4 I thought it might be worth making the jump. Getting Trippier back for his better run from GW8

I really want him in my WC. Nailed 5.0m fullback from a probable top 6 team without European fixtures. But his 2 terrible fixtures in the next 3 is what's keeping me off at this point -- bought Cucurella as a placeholder and will bring him in as soon as GW5 is over. Barring injury, of course.

Some compelling arguments in these responses. I am suspicious of Cucu though. How nailed is he? Some of Tuchel's recently comments indicate that Chillwell will be first choice LB when he returns.

It's likely only the casuals who only look ahead as far as the next game. I have him, but it didn't take much pre-planning to realise you needed someone to cover him in GW3 and GW5, which i've done. He might even score in one of those two GWs anyway.

    In the DRAFT game:

How would you rank these mids for the rest of the season:

A: Grealish (rather underwhelming in first two matches)
    B: H Barnes (just back)
C: Bruno Guimaraes (playing deeper so far)
D: Rodrigo (great start but not a great track record)

Full transparency: I alrady have Maupay, and I want to trade him out for that very reason. Or he goes to Everton... and they're hot garbage.

Hmmm honestly he might not be bad at Everton, Gordon, Gray and McNeil are decent players, they didn't look bad against Chelsea and probably would have scored had they had an actual striker to work with. Do you have cover for 2 weeks to hold onto him in case he gets a decent move?

          1. Luis Suarez Ate My Homework
            • 13 Years
            2 years, 2 months ago

The problem with holding onto him is that the likes of Dennis will not be available. Everyone has a crap striker as their third striker. Some people prioritized midfielders and defenders so they have 3 crap strikers and swap them out every week 😀 It's the magic of the draft! With DCL out injured for the foreseeable future, could Maupay be their new number 9? If anyone needs a striker, It's Everton. But they're so rubbish 🙂

Not completely silly, but I'd still go Alisson

Firmino back training. Was on Haaland(C) but after Firmino's utter masterclass at Old Trafford last year looks like I'll have a tough choice with Salah now

Cucu for me, just for attacking threat. Think clean sheets will be similar, he just needs to keep his place.

I'd probably go Gabriel. Good fixtures and nailed. He'll probably pop up with a header soon and get a 15 pointer.

People who think Neto is a good pick need to go to spec savers.

There aren't that many options in that price range among midfielders and he is getting chances. While I wouldn't call him a good option, not a terrible one either.

I think 5-3-2 is the best formation I think all these midfielders under Martinelli are almost all not good picks in comparison to defenders for example I think Dunk at 4.5 is better than Gross at 5.6

Doubt anyone does now. People reasonably gambled on him having a decent first few games given his price and fixtures.

I was just watching Let's Talk FPL and Andy is still talking about him like he is a good player.

Fair enough, haven't seen that. He is a good player, just might not be a valuable FPL asset as part of this current Wolves side.

That's not a fair assessment. He's an enabler, so it really depends on who else he enables you to pick.

Chilly has 3.9 ownership and 67.2 dropping Delta.
Shouldnt he have price dropped by now?

    1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 4 Years
      2 years, 2 months ago

Started very low. I had him in all my drafts until Tuchel said he wasn't really ready but he was already fairly low before that I thought, don't think he was higher than 6/6.5% if even that

      1. Piggs Boson
        • 13 Years

It's percentage based, so ownership makes no difference on price changes. The lower they start, the less transfers out they need to fall.

        1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
          • 4 Years
          2 years, 2 months ago

That's the point though, he might have started at about 4.5% or less possibly (honestly I think it was about that by the time GW1 came around but I can't be sure) so it's not necessarily enough to warrant a drop. Even this week he's had 85k transfers in (185k out) and wildcards in play too so not necessarily all will affect him. He also returned in GW1 so would have likely been on positive on FPLstats last week

67.2 delta is nothing, he needs to be on the verge of 100.

Should I use my two free transfers to go from Robertson to Diaz or should I use it to go from Neto to Dasilva and free up 0.9m?

Who is coming in for Robbo? Assuming James? And who is going out for Diaz?

      1. PKnox11
        • 2 Years

There are a few options, as I already have James.

        Roberton to Dias/Walker/Cucurella

        Grealish to Luis Diaz

        1. BeWater

I think Robbo to Cucurella and Grealish to Diaz are good uses of 2FTs.

Really not sure which option looks best here- Would really appreciate some feedback.

1 is a clear out of the weak players and moving to an 8m mid.
2 is backing Robbo and being more patient but may have price drops. 3 is committing to Robbo and foregoing the 8m mids for now.

    1. Robbo/Neto/Bailey-> 5.4m def (Cuc/Perisic/Ake)/Diaz(or other 8.0m)/Reed. -4
    2. Just Trippier-> 5.5m or less.
    (Cuc/Perisic/Ake).
    3. Trippier->5.4m + Neto-> Gross.

    Ramsdale.
    TAA, Cancelo, James, Robbo.
    Andreas, Salah, Martinelli, Neto.
    Haaland, Jesus.
    Ward, Trippier, Bailey, Archer.
    2ft's, 0.5m ITB.

I'm tempted just to play Pope over Ward.

Both will probably concede but Pope could be good for save points.

    On WC. Which option?

    A) 3-4-3 Vestergaard (3rd bench), Cucurella, Andreas (1st bench) Firmino

    B) 3-5-2 Collins(GW3 bench, but beyond starter), James, Martinelli Archer(3rd bench)

    Essentially:
    Cucerella + Firmino (Vestergaard)
    James + Martinelli (Collins)

    Rest of team:

    Raya
    Saliba Neco Patterson
    KdB Sterling Diaz Mount
    Haaland Jesus

Considering these moves for a hit.

    Trent, Darwin -> Cucurella, Kane -4;

    Ward
    James Cucu Walker Zinc
    Salah Foden Martinelli
    Haaland Kane Jesus

    (Iversen Neco Dasilva Andreas)

Suppose most of you don't like it. Obviously taking Trent out could backfire but I think it should work okay until Liverpool looks better/have less injuries.
