Still don't get the Mount buy...there has to be so many better options out there lol. Even Gross, March, Zaha etc...
Oh well, maybe he will surprise us.

I thought Bruno floated to the right wing based on eye-test. He even started over Antony there a couple of times. I think it will be Mount left and Bruno right, not that it matters much.

No no, Marc is right. Glad to get confirmation, as I tweaked my draft to add Bruno to Rashford in my midfield a few hours ago.

There's a case that Man Utd need to do more on the right hand side so that suggests Mount can slot in there.

I see Bruno as slightly left leaning playing deep and on the edge of the box.

Who looks better value tho this season with Rashford too. Rashford is starting a lot nearer to goal which is obvious but makes a huge difference over the season.

Nobody in Germany calls anyone other than Thomas Müller (who coined the word) a 'Raumdeuter'.

It's bizarre to watch English-speaking writers apply the term to Havertz and assume it's part of some new strategical masterplan, even if Havertz had been viewed as a possible successor to Müller at Bayern.

Rashford for consistency of starts across the season but Foden when he's getting the minutes is a strong option too.

Foden got 11 goals along with 7 assists in just 22 starts.

Plus there seems to be space to justify him starting in a good run of fixtures...

      But then there's Pep.

I think you’re wrong on Pickford for what it’s worth. Everton improved defensively under Dyche. They will play counter attack, sitting deep and allowing more shots from outside the box which should translate into more save points. He’s probably going to be my starting keeper as it stands. It’s between him and Flekken probably.

This guy in an earlier Twitter thread over the weekend claimed Everton weren't as good defensively under Dyche but not sure what metrics that's based on.

I don't mind an Everton defender just not the keeper, can't see many clean sheets but he could up his assists!

He could be in the top 10 keepers again if fit and get 120 points or so. Just think there's better options but each to their own.

      2. Nate(U)dog(ie)
        • 4 Years

Didn't they get worse defensively under Dyche?

Before Dyche: 28g conceded, 32.4xGA in 20 games
        With Dyche: 29g conceded,
        32.3xGA in 18 games

Personally I'm not big on backing Everton, they scraped staying up for the second year in a row and they have next to no money to improve a pretty weak squad. Pickford is capable of having big games but he's also capable of giving away easy or silly goals too

Looking at the template and my team, I have started to fear gw4. There seems to be fixture swing and MU and Arsenal are playing against each other. I have started to fear having gw rank over 6 million when the time comes if I go without Liv players.

There's an international break directly after GW4 too. I'm honestly likely just going to target up to that and try to go from there, but hoping to roll FT into the week of the break realistically means only using 2FT until then which may be difficult

It's one week. And United - Arsenal is usually high scoring.

Not concerned at all. I will aim for GW7,8,9 for first WC. The aim should be to give your team a few weeks, get more information and WC one week before the pack to get on the price rises.

I've seen a fair few different ideas about how Mount will be used. I've seen suggestions he'll play as a more attacking 8 with Bruno sitting deeper, that he and Bruno will both play around the same area (rather than one being deeper / further ahead than the other), that he'll be used to maintain a higher press and to cover more ground defensively on the left side, that he'll be used to cover the left wing on those occasions ETH wants Bruno wide right, etc. His versatility has to be a big reason why he was wanted so much, but I feel like he might be one that takes a bit of time to settle into whatever will end up being his best role in that side

Think I'm leaning towards the same line of thought. I think he will get returns but it'll be hard to predict them, he might have certain games where he's depended upon more for attacking impetus but it'll be hard to know when that'll be

As you say its not clear on where he'll play...probably not good for Bruno as this might unsettle team structure, overlapping roles etc.

Mount is mainly a left side attacking midfielder

Having doubts on Bruno as an option now....surely cant put him in until we know where he will play

I agree. Someone here posted a good YouTube video how Mount can be used. Mount is clever, has talent and positional awareness with and without the ball. He is a bit like poor man's Bruno, but not much poorer. He is also able to give good passes, so I expect him to enhance also Rashford. My guess is that we shall Mount A Rash G goals about 70-80% compared Bruno A Rash Goals.

Don't really see him as a deeper lying No. 8 in Eriksen role...he's mainly an attacking mid.....could be Bruno that drops deeper

They can and will be more fluid. Sometimes Mount will be in more forward position and when Bruno attacks Mount can come in 2nd wave or be in more defensive position depending on the situation. That's why ETH wanted him, even though they need a better no 10 and defender.

Not sure what the deal with Scarpa at Forest is. He got injured at the end of the season and not sure if he's seen as a first team player this season. Might be one to look at in preseason.

I'd like to see Elliot Anderson come through more at Newcastle, but he's probably going to be limited to mainly sub appearances. Given Newcastle's fixtures, he might get some regular 1 pointers off the bench.

Much prefer Gabriel or Saliba. I seem to be one of few preferring Saliba over Gabriel as he's a bonus magnet (mainly due to the crazy number of passes he tends to make every game as well as his defensive duties) but Gabriel is a big threat from setpieces of course. I just don't fancy Zinchenko that much, I didn't think he was great last year and I've seen a few Arsenal fans saying the same. He's also been tipped by a few to invert and spend a lot of time sitting in next to Rice so I don't expect many bursts forward

Is there anything glaringly wrong with this draft? It feels very vanilla, but I like how it looks with a month of potential tinkering ahead.

    Pickford (Virginia)
    Trippier, Shaw, Estupiñan, Botman (Beyer)
    Ødegaard, Matinelli, Foden, Rashford, Almiron
    Haaland, Jesus (Cameron Archer)

Feel like it's gonna be 3-5-2 most weeks with a serviceable defender ready to come in to cover surprise omissions.

No Saka or Salah the obvious missing ones. But there's so many viable combos.

Trippier could be a bold move. Almiron too. I prefer Eze or Enciso and Isak for Newcastle.

To be fair, incorporating Sarah would require a pretty significant teardown of the roster. Trippier feels like one of the safest picks of the lot, I don't think there's any question about his minutes or usage at Newcastle, and if anything I'd expect the Magpies to improve marginally from last year.

I've been going back and forth between Almiron and Mbuemo. Toney being out until January certainly shines the light on Mbuemo as an OOP midfielder, and Brentford's early fixtures certainly support giving Mbuemo first bite of the 6.5m apple.

Thanks for your reply and for inspiring a rethink . . . Almiron out, Mbuemo in!

I’d upgrade Foden if we’re not sure of his minutes come GW1 (as city play midweek) and take Trippier down to a £5m defender. Or even upgrade Almiron/Mbuemo (if we are sure of Foden) - just think £7.5-£8 mids offer more over £6.5 mids than Trippier over £5m defenders.

      Just my opinion tho

Agree with Mbuemo over Almiron if you stick with that slot

I think it's folly to not have a defender at a premium price, and 8.0 for TAA just seems nuts. The marginal point production you get from that investment just can't be recovered in the midfield given all the good options at the 6.5 price level.

If all the premium defenders prove to not be worth having, it's easy enough to adjust from there. It's a much more difficult prospect to move in the other direction if you've gone strictly cheap on your backline only to discover you are getting slaughtered every week by not having the must have defender.

Will of course keep an eye of the Foden v Grealish v Luis Diaz (v Sterling?) over the next month, but I'm holding on to the hope that *this* is the season that the annual "this is Foden's breakout season" comes good. He was dealing with some medical stuff post WC, so I don't feel like the tail end of last season is entirely predictive of his usage this coming season. There's also the issue of how Gundogan's minutes get redistributed. But as I said, there are a lot of decent lateral moves that can be made if Foden isn't the optimal choice. Even Mount or Maddison could make some waves with their new teams.

All fair points. If it’s the premium price point, though, I think I’d prefer to have a £5m defender and keep the cash - I just don’t see much from Trippier in those opening games.

Each to their own tho - all these different opinions are why we love the game. GL!

Why did Arsenal sold Xhaka? It was Xhaka's first good season and they sold him. Arsenal need to strengthen midfield. Midfield wins and loses games. Also Saliba need a better defence partner than Gabriel.

Xhaka would turn 31 in 2 months, and he had 1 year on his current contract left. It was now or never to decide if he was going to sign a new deal or leave. Arsenal banked £25 million and bought two younger midfielders.

He fulfilled the cycle and left as a player fans loved at the end. I would say that he had decent seasons before, but he was never as prolific as last year, and it's good that he's leaving on a high. His wish was to return to Germany. He wanted a new challenge and would be a guaranteed starter for Xabi Alonso, who convinced him with their project. It all makes sense.

Not a fan of this move, but 25mil is a lot of money for 31 year old. In Mikel we trust.

Have had some spare time the last week and the amount of content is a joke.. Many attempting to make a fast buck and all rushing out saturating You tube with the same teams and pretty much same boring discussion. All trying to make out there is far more skill than there really is in what is a fun game. All those going "smash the like button, subscribe to their channel". Get a proper job !!

Also all the "community" moaning about prices and how it makes it easier for all of us pesky "casuals". Its not their game. Its meant to make the game more popular so TV viewing figures go up. Its not just a game for just the hard core community who spend far too many hours on what is purely a fun fantasy game.

    Anyway rant over.

It's a fair point but if you make it your full time job I guess you feel compelled to discuss it except for a month when the season ends.

I'd be interested to know what the earnings are for the top 50 pundits outside of the paid writers.

I imagine it's a labour of love for most.

Big at the back 4-4-2 with 2 decent bench players.

    Any good?

    Pickford - (4.0m)
    Trent - Trippier - James - Gabriel - (Estupian)
    Saka - Mount - Maddison - Mbuemo - (Enciso)
    Haaland - Saka - (4.5m)

Fixtures are simply not good enough for TAA, Trippier (and James) in the beginning imo. I don't see huge upside there. This is first when season I plan to have quite cheap defenders.

Kane finished only 9 points behind Haaland playing in a sh*t Spurs side.

Kane played 25% more minutes than Haaland roughly. I guess I'd be asking myself if that's gonna happen again. I'm not brave enough to choose Kane over Haaland . . . feel like what EH showed last year was his floor while Kane's total was high even for him. He outperformed his xG by nearly ten . . . I smell a regression.

He was excellent, especially in such a poor side. But he also effectively played 7 full games more than Haaland, and Haaland had a few short appearances to boot which reduced his bonus pt potential as well

    6. Hairy Potter

Kane is a top and consistent performer. That said he's expensive and probably not as essential as Haaland given ownership.

I can't remember how many hauls Kane got last season TBH. I remember swapping Kane & Mahrez for Watkins & Salah at about GW25 last season and felt it paid off. Later I shipped Watkins when his goals dried up.

Maybe, and I have no firm evidence to support this, but jumping between in form £8m strikers can keep pace with Kane over a season? Picking the right ones (not Felix) might be the tricky part!

Hi all could I have some advice on this one:

    A. Trent/Mitoma/gibbs-white/wissa

    Or

    B. Stones/Maddison/billing/Jesus

    Thanks all!

Jesus probably edges it for B.

Depends how Maddison settles, he may take a while and not be rotation proof.

I just think he's outside of the Leicester clique and he may not be such a big fish, now that he's in the London goldfish bowl.

Newcastle may have been a better fit for him.

True but most squads, especially those in Europe, have options including both Liverpool and Newcastle this season.

Big fan of Maddison, but not sure where he would have fit in at Newcastle. Not convinced he'd work hard enough as an 8 like Joelinton, Longstaff or Willock. Not sure he would have been happy as one of the wide players in a front 3. I don't know much about Ange and his style of play, but perhaps he might be more inclined to build a midfield around Maddison than Howe.

Plus it sounds like Spurs offered him about £50k a week more, as Newcastle's wage structure isn't high as the established top 6.

I don’t like to pay 5,0 for a goalie but surely Ramsdale (5,0) and Tarkowski (4,5) sounds safer/better than Pickford (4,5) and Saliba (5,0)?

Rest of defenders are Trent Shaw Ake and Estupinan

Ramsdale and Tarkowski is surely worse because of saves/bonus.

Gabriel is the highest xG defender and Pickford makes a lot of saves.
