First Draft (No LIverpool as not sure who is nailed in the 7.5m category)

    Pickford
    Shaw, Saliba, Estupinan
    Saka, Rashford, Mitoma, Bowen
    Alvarez, Haaland, Jesus

    Areola, James, Pau Torres, Mbuemo

Maybe too much € on bench but keeping options open for first 2 weeks
Could possibly downgrade Pau to 4.0M and switch Alvarez/Mitoma for Foden or Diaz/Ferguson

I like the keeper combo and your back 3.

We have very different mids but I'm debating rashford.

If you downgraded mitoma to 5.5, Pau to 4.0 would you be able to fit Trent as a nailed lpool player while you wait for their front 3/4 to take shape?

Yeah, way too much money on the bench.

I think you can play Mbuemo every week. He scored two in their last game against Spurs (for what it's worth).

I'd move Alvarez to a 4.5 and bank the money for upgrades later, e.g. Mitoma to a Liverpool mid.

Anyone looking like starting the season with money in the bank. I’m currently sat with £1.5m but it’s very likely I’ll end up with £3m ITB. This is assuming Onana comes in at 5m.

It basically would allow me the flexibility to move to Trent for free if he exploded. From a 6.5m mid to a 9.5 mid or to any Striker bar Kane for free in one move.

A million in my case. It gives me a lot of options - my 4.5 GK to a 5m, a 4.5 defender to Chilwell, an upgrade to Foden if he loses his starting spot and so on and so forth.

Shaw had a very good season so not sure he'll better it ppg wise

Looking at PPG best keepers would give about 160 PTS, Shaw if he played most game about 150 so if onana is cheaper go for him. There also might be a point where we need to get rashford and Bruno so wouldn't want to be tied with 2 utd in my def

Not sure that comparing PPG of players in different positions gives the full picture.

Might be best to compare keeper and defender combinations. So for example how would a 4.5 keeper and 5.5 defender score compared to a 5.0 keeper and 5.0 defender?

Anybody hedge their bets on fantasy?

I read the mental health article and have to say when arsenal lose and my arsenal players do woeful it does slightly ruin my weekend.

But then I struggle to stack my team with spurs mainly because outside of Kane last season they were a minefield!

This season I will be playing FPL without any emotion attached. I support Leeds and last season I punished myself on FPL by selecting Leeds players I wanted to do well. It was a double whammy of failure.

To me the above article shows what a crowded market place fantasy football has become.
There seems to be few with a unique selling point, many formats are similar and they all copy each each other. There are very few FPL content creators who are able to differentiate themselves from the pack. A lot of it at this stage is 'brand association' of a personality it seems to me. A lot of what is actually said is very similar.

It has amused me that many fantasy football 'content creators' seem to be struggling for well.... 'content' since the FPL game launched a few weeks ago. There are only so many viewers drafts you can rate. under 10% owned players they can mention, or comments on the 'template' they can make.
It seems especially difficult for those who have made FPL their living and feel they have to keep churning out something....anything!

      • 9 Years

I quite enjoy Blackbox and TheWire occasionally as something easy to listen to in terms of general FPL discussion. I rarely follow their advice or care about their teams though. It's good to hear content creators explain their thought process and often realise that you might have a completely different take on a player or a team. FPL twitter can be a bit of an echo chamber and some bandwagons seem to make little sense to me.

Someone just telling people what their team is, doesn't do it for me. Especially if you don't know if they are biased due to a club they support or if they simply look at stats rather than having any insight into football at all.

These are the two I listen to. Blackbox usually, Wire occasionally. Rarely ever anything else. Sometimes Neale's injury update ahead of the deadline. Just like to hear him talk about players being 'on the grass' like cattle being taken out of the shed in spring.

I just wish on FPL Wire there was an easy 'skip everything Bakar says' option

What's even sadder is the drafts are all the flippin' same. I suppose it will be amusing when the whole damn lot are jostling for spots around the 3 million mark.

I just typed in 'FPL' on youtube to see what would come up - and there is one FPL 'expert' which according to the tagline 'brutally rated' other youtube 'experts' teams.
At the time of writing it has reviewed 55k views.
        My first question was why?
My second question was is it because it had 'brutally' in the tag line?

55k that is more than the attendance of Anfield - just for talking about other FPL 'personalities' teams.

Believe it or not, YouTube will continue to exist and produce content creators with or without FFSs support. It's not like their support is to sponsor quality content. It's just to promote people who remain slaves to the YouTube algorithm. It doesn't remove those shackles, so there's no benefit to us (quite the opposite, given that the quality on FFS suffers as a result of this strategy).

Been a long time since I finished inside top 10k but I admit that is the target each season. I think I need to accept that top 50k is a good target perhaps … but it just doesn’t seem quite right.

I think going with gut and getting it wrong would be less frustrating than ignoring gut and getting it wrong … so hopefully that helps this season.

My main goal is to win every single season. Otherwise, I wouldn't spend time on it.

I made a promise to myself that I would captain someone other than Haaland more often if I felt like he wasn't the best option in certain gameweeks. I've done it a few times last season, and it generally paid off. Fear is just an illusion in our minds, and I think it's healthy to face and fight your fears. I'm still convinced that a combination of different captains throughout the year can outscore a permanent captain, EBH in this case.

Excluding Trent who is 8.0m, I think the ideal starting back three is likely to be Estu, Gabriel / Saliba & Shaw.

You can always leave 0.5m ITB to move Estu to a Chelsea def in GW2 or 3 if they look sharp.

Arsenal away kit isn't that bad now I've seen it in videos. Some of the pictures really ramped up the saturation, which didn't do it justice. If it was 30 euros and produced fairly ethically, I might be inclined to get it for some high visibility on my bicycle rides! But since that's a dream-world scenario, it's back to the second-hand store for my sportswear I go 😀

Oh yes I do! I'm going to ride it to the cinema right now!

          Don't text and ride though!

Anyway, would an Arsenal shirt make cars more likely to swerve towards you or away from you? Depends which part of the country you're in I suppose.

Haha failed response to the loop below.

I managed to get to the cinema without texting. Since I am in the Netherlands, perhaps Ajax fans will be out for revenge after the signing or Jurien Timber

    Hello folks,

    Thoughts on this one?

    Leno
Trent - Saliba - Pau Torres
    Foden - Rashford - Martinelli - Mount - Enciso
    Haaland - Watkins

Bench : Kelleher (will be Trafford if he comes at 4M) / Alvarez / Colwill / Egan Riley

    Cheers 😀

Just again related to the article above. I have often wondered why no one has parodied these people 'content creators' from the 'FPL community.
A good mimic(s) /person who is knowledge of the fpl advice/decisions so they can create a parody at the end of each gameweek.

A lot seem to have their own catchphrases/mannerisms -

Joe (using the phrase 'as well' - (obsession with price points)

David Munday - (talks 90 mile an hour non stop - asks and answers his own questions loves a 'caveat') Any mimic could have a clock in the background going really fast to show an exaggerated passage of time)

AndyLet'sTalkFPL - Catchpharase 'Share, Like and subscribe if you are new around here' - if he does not like a decision 'he does not hate it'

FPL General - anyone who is able to an Ulster accent and read off facts like the death notices - mimcs could have a field day here

FPL Mate - this parody is easy hat on backwards, hands waving, over enthusiastic 'blue peter; type delivery

FPL Nacho - to parody him just exaggerated the nasal voice - 'hi guys' is his phrase

Davvy FPL = Howsit! Enthusiastic etc
    Planet FPL -
Suj - play up on the fact that he never seems to know what is going on, FPL low priority for him, misses deadlines
James - the London accent and mannerisms should be easy to parody - likes to say 'man-a-jar' - the 'bird app mate'
    Blackbox -
Az - making outlandish statements writing off players
Mark - over analysing his decisions tying himself in knots using his catchphrase 'it's difficult'
Pras - you have the use of the word 'metrics' and so on - apparent encyclopedic fpl knowledge
Focal - it is all about the radio voice for any parody

Anyway you get the idea any good mimic good be having a field day, maybe even take it up to another level and have spitting image FPL type puppets of the content creators. It is a major gap in the market IMO.

Wow you know a lot of them! Most of this would go over my head. The only parody line I can think of, which I think is pretty funny, is Mirror Man's "Like, subscribe, share, donate, fellate"

It is what happens if you are an fpl veteran, I suppose
I wouldn't be a good enough mimic to be able to make a success of it.
But anyone who is I think they should do it. It writes itself. Especially when 'content creators' contradict previous statements, get decisions very wrong, or copy each other and have similar teams.
I definitely would watch a 'spitting image FPL type thing' if someone created it - was to the point funny, and understands fpl.
It is about time people had some fun with all! The silly fpl jargon that gets repeated and so on. Plenty of scope.

      Also Joe telling Dad jokes.

      LR fanboying FML FPL.

Raptor talking about his PhD/dating life.

WGTA Tom with a self-satisfied pun that no one else picks up on.

Yeah, exactly that type of thing - don't forget the guitar in the background for Joe, or the pool table beside Gianni Buttice.

Good mimics could play up on pronunciation/mispronunciation of players names/fear of players names. Some 'fpl content creators' invent their own pronunciation for players names, or avoid them entirely.

The key to it is being a good mimic though and get the mannerisms/voice/catchphrases done correctly. Which would take a lot of work, and consumption of 'content'.
Each gameweek would create its own drama - so the ups and downs write themselves.

Yeah I had forgotten him, deep voice, could have his character exaggerated in Kilt, Scottish accent. Plus in a panic of who to captain during OFCON because Salah not playing in FPL.

Sam Bonfeild you could have her being really sweet and kind to everyone (except her husband) Lee - who she wants to destroy in FPL.

  18. Owing to the missing fixture, some changes afoot:

    GW 1:

    Something old, something new,
    Something borrowed, something blue,
A silver sixpence in the boot.

    Leno
    Estupiñan, White, Mee
    Saka(vc), Martinelli, Mitoma, Mac Allister
    Haaland(c), Kane, Eduoard

    Areola; Mbuemo, Guéhi, Holgate … F/T: 0/0, 0.0 ITB, TV: 100.0

Good luck to all - but not too much!!! 😉
