FPL Gameweek 36 team news: Friday’s live injury updates

There are 15 pre-match press conferences to cover on Friday as we bring you the latest Gameweek 36 team news.

FPL GAMEWEEK 36 TEAM NEWS: FRIDAY’S PRESS CONFERENCE TIMES

MANCHESTER CITY

Ruben Dias and Phil Foden are both available, having missed out last week due to illness.

We may even see Ederson, too. He came off against Nottingham Forest last weekend with a shoulder injury but Pep Guardiola said on Friday that the issue wasn’t as serious as first thought.

“He’s okay. Looked worse, he feels good. Yesterday we trained, he feels good. Yep, [he could be back].” – Pep Guardiola on Ederson

The City boss also confirmed that Erling Haaland was ready to start after his Gameweek 35 cameo.

“Yeah, [he’s fit to start]. When everyone is fit, everyone has to be ready. I don’t know exactly what I’m going to do tomorrow – of course, I know, there are little doubts for one or two players in the line-up but the rest of the game plan, I have time to think about it and see the last games from Wolves. But he’s ready, yeah.” – Pep Guardiola on Erling Haaland

NEWCASTLE UNITED

Fabian Schar looks set to miss the rest of 2023/24 after he suffered a hamstring injury against Sheffield United last weekend.

“Fabian, I think, will miss a period of time out with a minor hamstring problem. He won’t be available tomorrow and I doubt we will see him again this season.” – Eddie Howe

Jamaal Lascelles (knee), Sven Botman (knee), Joe Willock (Achilles), Matt Targett (Achilles) and Lewis Miley (back) are also out for the season, while Sandro Tonali is banned until August.

Kieran Trippier (calf) is not ready to return, either, but could feature before the end of the campaign.

Joelinton (quad), Miguel Almiron (knee) and Nick Pope (shoulder) have been back in training this week, however.

“We’ve had Miggy return, Joelinton return to training this week. Their first steps back into full team training. We’ve also seen that with Nick Pope as well so it’s been a really good week to have three experienced quality players back.

“We’ll see after today [whether they can face Burnley]. I’ve got to make the right decisions for them individually, the right decisions for the team. They’ve been out for different time lengths but they’ve had significant injuries so we need to make sure we get this call right.

“Kieran Trippier lies just slightly behind the guys that have come back. He hasn’t trained this week, he has been away training by himself with our physiotherapists. We anticipate he will be back next week to train, hopefully. I say that with fingers crossed. He could be involved before the end of the season.” – Eddie Howe

Howe warned Pope that he would have to earn his place back when he is ready to return.

“Martin’s done very well, been really pleased with his strength of character. The team’s had some difficult moments and Martin’s had to go through those periods with the team but I think he’s, in recent weeks, performed very, very well.

“The key thing with Nick is Nick’s going to have to earn his place back, and I’d say the same for any player in any position. No shirt is given to you, you have to earn it, and I think that’s really healthy for the group.” – Eddie Howe

LIVERPOOL

Jurgen Klopp said his touchline spat with Mohamed Salah was a “non-story” and that the situation is now “completely resolved”.

“If we didn’t know each other for that long I am not sure how we would deal with it but we have known each other for that long and respect each other too much that it’s really no problem.” Jurgen Klopp on Mohamed Salah

Conor Bradley (ankle) has returned to team training but Diogo Jota (hip) hasn’t been able to do so.

Neither has Virgil van Dijk, who will have to be assessed before Sunday’s match.

“Diogo is not in team training yet. Conor is.

“Virgil wasn’t the whole week yet, probably part of parts of team training today. So we have to see what we can do there.

Ben Doak (knee), Thiago Alcantara (muscle) and Joel Matip (knee) remain out.

ARSENAL

The Gunners’ team news is nice and straightforward: Mikel Arteta confirmed on Friday that “everyone is fit and available.”

That includes Jurrien Timber (knee), who has now featured for the under-21s twice to build up match fitness after his long lay-off.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Ange Postecoglou doesn’t think that Spurs have any serious new concerns from Thursday’s defeat to Chelsea.

“Short turnaround, hard to say. A few of the lads are still feeling the effects of the game. I’ll have a better picture probably this afternoon. I don’t think, knock on wood, there’s anything significant come out of it but we’ll get a better idea this afternoon.” – Ange Postecoglou on team news

Timo Werner (hamstring), Ben Davies (hamstring), Destiny Udogie (thigh), Manor Solomon (knee), Fraser Forster (foot) and Ryan Sessegnon (hamstring) will be on the sidelines for the rest of the season.

Oliver Skipp (knock) was back for the Chelsea game, however.

Postecoglou was asked about the possibility of resting Son Heung-min in his pre-match presser.

“Yeah, look it’s been a big challenge for Sonny this year on a lot of fronts. Not just the game, the leadership. It’s only natural there would be some point where… again, he’s got to embrace this challenge. It’s not going to change. There isn’t a point, if you want to be successful, where the relentlessness of that changes. So, you need to embrace that, you need to understand that, and knowing Sonny, he will do just that. He will find a way to work his way through it.” – Ange Postecoglou

CHELSEA

Mauricio Pochettino’s press conference took the form of embargoed quotes held over from Thursday night, so there was not much new on the team news front.

The Chelsea boss did say that Levi Colwill (toe) and Christopher Nkunku (hamstring) could be available, however, following their returns to full training this week.

Raheem Sterling (back), Reece James (hamstring), Lesley Ugochukwu (hamstring) and Robert Sanchez (illness) were only in “partial training” the last we heard, so it’ll be a big ask for them to be fit.

Thiago Silva (groin) and Axel Disasi (unknown) had joined Romeo Lavia (thigh), Wesley Fofana (knee) Enzo Fernandez (groin), Malo Gusto (knee), Carney Chukwuemeka (knee) and Ben Chilwell (knee) on the injury list ahead of the win over Spurs.

“For us, we need to recover the players. We do not have too many options to add fresh people to the squad and they have had the whole week to prepare the game. That is why the most dangerous games are coming.” – Mauricio Pochettino

ASTON VILLA

Unai Emery said that Emi Martinez “could be available” after he sustained a hamstring injury in the match against Chelsea last week.

The final assessment will be taken after tomorrow’s training.

Youri Tielemans also came off in Gameweek 35 with a groin issue and wasn’t fit to face Olympiacos on Thursday.

Alex Moreno (calf) was said to be “close to coming back” but didn’t return in midweek, either.

Jacob Ramsey (foot), Tyrone Mings (knee), Boubacar Kamara (knee) and Emi Buendia (knee) are all out longer term.

Nicolo Zaniolo (unknown) is available again, however.

CRYSTAL PALACE

Eberechi Eze (knee) and Marc Guehi (knee) are back available for Monday’s clash with Manchester United.

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS

Pedro Neto (hamstring), Santiago Bueno (hamstring) and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (knee) have all been back in team training this week and are available for selection.

Craig Dawson (groin) and Leon Chiwome (ankle) are out for the season, while loanee Tommy Doyle is ineligible to feature.

Rayan Ait-Nouri suffered only a “knock” when being substituted against Luton Town last weekend and he wasn’t mentioned by his manager in Friday’s injury round-up.

BOURNEMOUTH

Antoine Semenyo has been passed fit after a scan returned good news on a knee injury he sustained in Gameweek 35.

Philip Billing and Illia Zabarnyi, who both missed out on the win over Brighton with illnesses, are also available for the match at the Emirates. 

Romain Faivre (hamstring) returns to contention, too.

Milos Kerkez continues to serve a three-match ban, while Luis Sinisterra (hamstring), Marcus Tavernier (hamstring), Ryan Fredericks (calf), Tyler Adams (back) and Chris Mepham (health issue) are still out.

BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION

Adam Lallana has joined the Brighton injury list this week.

That list already included Pervis Estupinan (calf), Evan Ferguson (ankle), Jack Hinshelwood (foot), Solly March (knee) and Kauro Mitoma (back), who are unlikely to feature again this season.

James Milner (muscle) and Tariq Lamptey (unknown) didn’t recover for the clash with Bournemouth on Sunday, with no timelines on their returns.

And there’s no official return date for Jan Paul van Hecke (hamstring), either.

Roberto De Zerbi said he wasn’t expecting any of the above to feature this weekend.

BRENTFORD

Rico Henry (knee), Josh Dasilva (knee), Ben Mee (ankle) and Aaron Hickey (hamstring) remain out.

Loanee Neal Maupay is available again, having been ineligible to face Everton last weekend.

WEST HAM UNITED

We have so far seen no updates on Konstantinos Mavropanos (unknown) or Nayef Aguerd (ankle).

Both remained out last weekend, despite David Moyes saying the former “had a chance” of facing Liverpool ahead of the game. 

FULHAM

Harrison Reed suffered a knock in the draw with Crystal Palace but has trained since, so a late call will be made on him.

Marco Silva confirmed that everyone else is fit.

Tosin Adarabioyo isn’t injured but he was omitted from the matchday squad last weekend, amid speculation on his future.

SHEFFIELD UNITED

James McAtee returns after he missed Gameweek 35 with a groin issue.

Oli McBurnie (hamstring), George Baldock (calf), Max Lowe (ankle), Rhys Norrington-Davies (hamstring) and Chris Basham (leg) remain sidelined.

Tom Davies (hamstring), John Egan (leg), Rhian Brewster (hamstring) and Daniel Jebbison (illness) have been back on the grass recently but Chris Wilder again suggested that they may be held back for next season, with the Blades’ fate now sealed.
