The Stock Check – Gameweek 6 – Sunday

West Ham’s dire form shows no sign of abating, as Southampton march into the London Stadium and take three points, with Charlie Austin amongst the goals once again. Here’s the Stock Check from Sunday’s encounter….

On the Rise

Charlie Austin
Having scored four goals in the previous three across all competitions, the Saints striker was granted a second Premier League start of the season by Claude Puel. Austin vindicated that decision with the opener and also supplied the assist for Dusan Tadic’s goal; he is clearly in the midst of a hot streak right now.

With Leicester City, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool in the next six, though, the fixtures are hardly in his favour.

Dusan Tadic
After a slow start to the season, the Serbian continues to build momentum. Tadic opened the campaign with a trio of blanks but has since served up points in each of the subsequent three. Assists against Arsenal and Swansea City were followed up with an ice-cool finish against the Hammers as the Saints chalked up a fourth straight win in all competitions.

Ryan Bertrand and Cedric Soares
It’s back-to-back clean sheets for the Saints in the Premier League after keeping out Swansea City last weekend. Ryan Bertrand earned his first attacking points of the season with an assist for Austin’s goal, while Cedric Soares mirrored his fellow full-back for bonus with two apiece.

The duo have now served up 18 and 17 points respectively in the last couple of Gameweeks as Puel’s approach finally takes hold.

In Decline

Dimitri Payet
Much was expected of the Hammers today, from what was the first of four home matches in six. While Michail Antonio’s kinder price may persuade some to hold ahead of visits from Middlesbrough, Stoke City and Sunderland, the premium priced Payet may well be seen as surplus to requirements. Yet to score in the league so far, he has been subject to more transfers out than any midfielder this term and that trend may well continue in light of today’s uninspiring display.

Michail Antonio
Antonio’s stock also takes a dent following the tactical tweaks from Slaven Bilic. With the Hammers chasing the game, Bilic replaced Håvard Nordtveit with striker Ashley Fletcher on 71 minutes. Antonio was then shifted to become an attacking right-back – a move which could become familiar should West Ham find themselves in a similar scenario again. Given their form, that seems likely.

James Collins
The Welshman’s run in West Ham’s first XI came to an end after he dropped out of the squad today. Having started each of the first five, Collins – who rose to 9% ownership in FPL – was clearly earmarked as the fall guy, with Winston Reid returning to partner Angelo Ogbonna at centre-half. Today’s capitulation may well force another rethink, though – the Hammers have now shipped 14 goals in the last four.

    Morning everyone. Would you
    A. stick
    B. do Baines/Valencia to Koscielny/Mustafi
    C. Antonio to Lallana?

    Curently leaning towards A.

    Pickford, Heaton
    Valencia, Baines, Collins, Evans, Amat
    Ozil, Sterling, Antonio, Firmino, Capoue
    Aguero, Lukaku, Benteke

    Thanks

Thanks all. Baines is hopefully minor, hence why consensus seems to be A. Funds don't allow Ozil to Sanchez, but two transfers would. Think I'll stick. Cheers.

Would definately wait and see what the deal is with Baines. Everton have good fixtures and Baines has been involved in points and bonus. For Arsenal defense I would definately stretch to Bellerin if you can. If not, Koscielny.

Made my move already (Sanchez in), so shaping up like this:

    Pickford
    Valencia Williams Kone
    Sanchez Firmino Antonio Snodgrass
    Ageuro Ibra(c) Defoe

    Heaton Friend Amat De Pena

Anything worth a change or a hit?

I like it. As a non Ibra owner I also fear a big score from him this week. With West Ham being so bad at the moment I would look at a Antoni replacement. Any Liverpool player or Son probably

Interesting. I know they're in bad form, but overall I think they are still one of the most threatening teams going forward, and Antonio is still a key pick with the fixtures. Will look to ship after gw8 maybe if his form drops off

At the moment Aguero looks like a must have. But I truly believe NO one is essential and Aguero will not score 2 every week. With Tottenham looking exceptionally strong at the moment defensively, I think this week could very well be a week to look at more pressing matters.

Wakey has Ibra and Costa as an alternative to Kun and Lukaku.

Personally I am all for leaving Aguero out at the right time, when he's coming back from injury maybe. People often rush too fast with that. But I just don't think this is the right time, he's fully fit and in great form.

Thought your idea was fairly interesting - but I think you need to use it a bit more like Jonty. Ownership only really becomes relevant in the second half of the season, when you're high up and comparing it to people around you (not overall ownership)

        already have Bruyne and Aguero.

Both are amazing at the moment. I read that you're a Spurs fan so you actually know more about rotation at your club and what Poch thinks about Son. I think he's just too good at the moment to stay on the bench.
I expect Walcott to keep his place in the starting line-up. Theo is a totally different player this season. He knows he has to work harder than ever and is a key member of our team. Much more confident and hungrier than in the past years.

    Morning all!

Did the mistake on WC to plan to transfer Sanchez in for GW8. But hard to bring him in this GW while wanting to captain Ibra for Stoke. Team is

    Foster - Pickford
    Kosc - Coleman - Holebas - Koné - Amat
Sterling - Firmino - Antonio - Capoue - de Roon
    Aguero - Ibra - Lukaku

To get Sanchez for GW7 I have to ship either Ibra or Lukaku for Rashford, so options look like

    A) Antonio + Lukaku -> Sanchez + Rashford -4pts
    B) hold

Surely B the is the sensible option here, even though A is mighty tempting

is anyone else playing this dugout game in the FFS league? I know it is made rather pointless by the number of managers who didn't bother to even draft a team, but the game is just a joke - last week Martial not starting meant that as I only had 10 players starting I got 0 points (instead of 42), so ended up with a 0-0 draw!

To be fair, I would have looked at other ways to get Sanchez in the team without sacrificing Ibra. Wouldnt put myself in that situation to pick like that. Saying that, I will be captaining Ibra this GW and if he blanks will ship for someone else.

People ship just cuz he is expensive and want Kun back in. I dont mind more hits, easier for me to climb 😀

Can't catch a break at the moment, or at least it feels that way. I'm second guessing every decision I want to make as I don't want another week where I'm the awful one on the Scoutcast! Oh well, maybe next week 🙂

I think as long as you give good advice that's what the viewers and listeners take on board. You do that so don't worry about Scoutcast pressure re your team.

Also we can't all follow our own advice not enough wildcards or transfers to do that. We pick a team and improve each week where we can.

This season has got me taking a hit every week. I have already planned hits for next 2 gameweeks which do not account any midweek injuries. So many players started so well but are just going off the boil too soon. Let's hope these Arsenal/Liverpool mids keep it going.

What are you thoughts on this attack from GW8-9?

    Sanchez - Ozil - Firmino - Lallana - Snodgrass
    Aguero - 7m - 6.5m

    Wouldn't really appreciate your thoughts!
