Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 32

We take our usual Sunday evening look at the weekend’s new injuries now, with Chelsea’s concerns up front increasing after Loic Remy picked up a muscle problem in training yesterday.

Aston Villa
The injury worries continued in defence for Tim Sherwood after Ciaran Clark was forced off early on in the 1-0 win over Spurs. Sherwood is also sweating over the fitness of Gabby Agbonlahor up front, after the forward was also replaced at White Hart Lane. After the match, the Villa manager admitted the pair are likely to miss next weekend’s semi-final with Liverpool:

“Ciaran has come off with a knee ligament injury. He’s not had it before. It’s the first time this season we’ve had to name an unchanged team so it’s something we’re getting used to. Gabby’s tweaked his hamstring. It looks like (they will miss Sunday). It’s a real shame as it’s a massive day out.”

Chelsea
Loic Remy missed today’s trip to QPR after sustaining a muscle injury in training yesterday, Jose Mourinho has confirmed:

“Remy got a kick in training and the muscle is sore. We never cry or complain, we just trust the people on the pitch”

After the 1-0 win, the Blues boss was optimistic that the Frenchman will be back in time for next week’s home clash with United:

“Remy has a small injury. I think he should be available for the next game.”

Crystal Palace
Left-back Pape Souare was forced off early in the 4-1 win over Sunderland due to injury.

Everton
Leon Osman is set to be assessed after sustaining a groin injury during the Toffees’ 1-1 draw at Swansea yesterday lunchtime.

Manchester City
Reports suggest Vincent Kompany was withdrawn at half-time due to a thigh complaint in City’s loss at Old Trafford.

Manchester United
Michael Carrick was forced off towards the end of this afternoon’s derby win over City, with his withdrawal leaving the hosts with just ten men. Post-match, Louis van Gaal revealed:

“At the end, Michael Carrick needed to be changed but I could not substitute him. He was very wise to step out of the game with my permission. I hope he is not injured.”

QPR
Armand Traore was initially named amongst the subs today but withdrew from the squad after sustaining a knock during the pre-match warm-up.

Stoke
Victor Moses and Marc Wilson were both replaced during the Potters’ weekend draw at West Ham, with Mark Hughes confirming post-match:

“It looks like Victor has pulled his hamstring. It looks like it is in a strange position as it seems to be right behind his knee, which isn’t the normal position you usually get hamstring injuries. We will get it checked, it may be something that isn’t to do with the hamstring so it could be that we get good news. If it is a hamstring, then it could be that we lose him for a few weeks…Marc got a bang right on his hip, fair play to him he tried to go out for the second half and see if he could make it work. Sadly he couldn’t loosen it off and had to be forced off unfortunately.”

Swansea
Bafetimbi Gomis lasted just 17 minutes of Saturday’s early kick-off against Everton before limping off with a hamstring problem, Garry Monk has confirmed:

“Bafe felt a tightening of his hamstring. He will have a scan. Hopefully it’s not too serious because we don’t want to lose his quality, and we’re already quite thin on the ground.”

Fellow forward Nelson Oliveira missed out with a twisted ankle sustained in training.

West Ham
Sam Allardyce’s options up front could be somewhat limited heading into the weekend trip to City after both Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia picked up injuries in the weekend draw with Stoke. Post-match, the Hammers boss confirmed:

“Enner was never going to be able to play the full 90 minutes, but he got a kick as well and we’re hoping it won’t be enough to keep him out for next week, because Diafra will definitely be missing. If it’s a thigh strain, depending on what grade it is, it could two weeks or it could be him missing the rest of this season, but we will wait and see. That leaves us very short on the front line with Andy being out, and means goals will be fewer and farther between than they used to be, so if we don’t get that defensive side right then the last six games are going to be tough for us.”

    Should I do?
    Naughton -> Schlupp (Hit)

Can't field 11 players this week, but is it worth a hit? If yes, is there a better option? Have Terry, Davis and Dawson playing at the back at the moment.

Not sure its worth it for a hit. You could use that same hit to get a Liverpool or Chelsea player for the DGW?

It's possible, but it's an ideal time to give Luis a game. Conventional wisdom on here will say that they'll split the DGW.

I'm leaning towards one of Mignolet/Skrtel(Got Foster/Bellerin/Dawson all worth replacing) and Henderson cause of his set piece monopoly.
Tbh i'm actually wondering if it's worth going with 3 Pool attackers. Highest potential there tbh

Is any Palace mid worth -4? Have Sanchez rotting on my bench and would love to keep FT so I could get 3 Pool player for dgw with only one hit.

My team for the weekend is:

    Myhill

    Rose-Terry-Clyne-Toby (Pva)

    Hazard-Silva- Eriksen (Cork,Sanchez)

    Remy- Aguero- Kane

    Need some serious help here.

The week was going all right until Aguero decided to rip it apart, and all I'm left with is Sturridge (c) right now.

So, for next week, I'm currently with 9 players, and would need a hit to field XI.

    Krul,
    Ivanovic, Bertrand, Alderweireld,
    Hazard, Silva, Eriksen, Sigurdsson,
    Kane.

The players who won't play are Ospina; PVA/Naughton; Lucas; Austin/Sturridge.

So, should I take a hit to do Austin -> Vardy and Lucas -> Bolasie/Puncheon, or just play 10 and save the hit?

    Cheers.

I'm struggling a bit with a good WC frontline for GW34.

Of those sides that have a DGW, the options appear to be:
    - Remy
    - Sturridge
    - Vardy (or Nugent)
    - N'Doye

I definitely plan to keep Kun, as he has become somewhat of a differential in my ML. It's possible that Kane could be sacrificed, but I don't really see that as being a good option.

There are positives/detriments of all 4 options. So, assuming that the chosen striker will be partnering Kun and Kane up front, who is your pick for that 3rd spot?

    1. President John F. Keninnsie
      • 10 Years

      Good ol' Jamie Vardy.

      1. Geordienufc1
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 5 months ago

He is certainly an enticing option. I suppose my main trepidation is what it does to the balance of the team.

Such a cheap striker basically enables a 3-5-2 formation, with a good strong foundation. The issue arises should a more expensive option (Giroud, Sturridge etc.) suddenly become favourable in a GW or two. It would be a scary job (multiple transfers and valuable points) trying to wedge such a player in at the expense of Vardy should it be necessary, particularly when Aguero has just shown why he is indispensable.

On the contrary, a mid-priced striker (e.g. Remy) or even starting with Sturridge appears more flexible.

Having said that, the dilemma exists that I am unimpressed with both Remy and Sturridge as options 😛

        1. President John F. Keninnsie
          • 10 Years
          9 years, 5 months ago

          Yeah it's a tough one.

          I've currently got:
          Hazard Silva Coutinho Mata Eriksen
          Aguero Kane Vardy

Eriksen will go for another Pool mid for the DGW. If I want someone like Giroud I can just downgrade Coutinho/Mata to a bench fodder 5th mid. Only problem is if a big striker like Costa or Sturridge starts firing.

Remy. I'm confident he will start but I wouldn't rush that transfer if you already have a strong 11 for GW33. I still fear Costa may feature in the DGW particularly if Chelsea lose to United

      1. Geordienufc1
        • 11 Years

        Remy is a tough one.

I brought him in against my better judgement (classic herd mentality) last GW. Moses (my backup mid) also got injured. I had planned to use my FT this week to shift Panti out for Davis, and that would make 11. H/ever, with Moses out and Remy no guarantee, I may have to just go in without a GK and hope for the best.

Back to GW34 - I share your fears about Costa being brought back earlier than expected. Then again, Remy's record off the bench is reasonable.

Lots to think about, but nothing leaps out at me.

        Thanks mate.

United and Arsenal definitely have the momentum right now and with Costa out and an ordinary performance against QPR I wonder if they lack a little confidence right now to really take it to United

Really annoying they didn't drop points against QPR yesterday. I can United and Arsenal both beating Chelsea, which would have blown the league wide open.

Right, yeah I thought it was that. Perhaps a subbing is enough then. The problem is the old trying to take a pen trick is used by players who want a move and are showing a bit of disruption to get it. A bit like not celebrating goals.

What to do with this little lot for this week?

    Myhill , Krul

    Terry, Dawson, Bellerin, Toby, PVA

    Mane, Eriksen, Boyd, Hazard, Sanchez

    Giroud, Aguero, Kane

    2FT , 2.1ITB

Looking to wildcard next week so don't have to factor the doubles into this weeks plans.

IMO it's not the number of D/W players you have for GW34, it's the quality of players that have one game.

I'm going Aguero, Silva, Murray, Dann and Kane as my one game players.

    No WC.

Is Eriksen really a top FPL player? I seriously doubt being patient with him is a good idea and Id still argue Sanchez isn't great value. Aguero however has been great statistically and has been exceptionally unlucky in recent weeks.

I've already committed -4 this coming gw to get in cesc and Schlupp for 11 players.

Therefore praying Studge makes it through so just another -4 for Naughton+Eriksen>Skrtel+Sterling!

    2. Jafalad
      • 14 Years

      6/10.

      Some points to consider:

I'd like to see Hendo in there. He certainly deserves to be in ahead of Sterlo and perhaps Studge.
Cesc: has done little of late - I'd probably consider an extra CHS defender if Remy is out.
LEI have to score goals and in fairness, they ahve been doing that of late. I'd like to see a forward in there but sure Cambiosso at 4.7 is worth it for Boyd?

      1. DVassell
        • 13 Years
        9 years, 5 months ago

Cheers for the thoughts- Cesc was meant to be a differential I had planned even when I thought Remy was fit, so I've committed to the transfer already to field 11 players this coming GW. I already have Studge in for the armband in tonight's game and did it as a gamble, so hopefully it will pay off and he doesn't get crocked.

Yes Hendo does see like a better option right? I just feel again that having Sterling might differentiate my team, but do you reckon with all the stuff going on with Sterling's contract that he's a no-go? I guess we will find out tonight!

Finally, unless I take another hit and bench Silva in GW34, Boyd to Cambiasso just doesn't make sense.

So in conclusion in stuck on the Hendo Sterling debate!

Well Hendo has scored 4 in last 5 games so he's on form.

The Cesc differential could be a decent shout and worth considering then.

"Remy has a small injury. I think he should be available for the next game."

For me this means the knock was not serious and he could have played QPR, and if Costa were soon to be back I think Remy would have done so.
The fact that Mourinho didn’t want to take any risks with Remy makes me even more sure that he is a good pick for the DGW.

This was just a little thought from me, to convince myself to not replace Remy with Fabregas for – 8 points.

Thinking Fab is the better option, on set pieces and stuff, but I really want Murray! haha

Struggling to pick a WC team for 34. How many DGW players should I be having in my team?

At least 7 and possibly 8 if you see LEI banging in the goals.

      3 CHS
      3 Liverpud
      1-2 LEI

My draft at the minute has 3, 3, 2.

It's the front line of Remy, Sturridge and Vardy which is making me feel uneasy. Rest looks really good

      6-7 IMO.

I'm also struggling on this point - currently looking at 7, potentially 8 if I bring in Vardy.

      CHE - Terry, Haz, Fab

      LIV - Hendo, Skrtel, (1 of coutinho/sterling)

      LEI - Morgan, Vardy (potentially)

Another draft has Sturridge up front.
