The ScoutCast – Episode 165 – Wildboys

Tempted into dealing our Wildcards by yet another “mediocre” Gameweek, Granville and I go through almost the entire episode before Jonty reveals he’s weakened and gone “active”. It’s a revelation that almost has us both logging off and reaching for our own panic buttons.

Before that dramatic finale, we find salvation via another bout of “rough the smooth”, cheering ourselves with tales of Gameweek totals which dip below even our miserable tallies.

We also take a further round of community questions, forcing me to “fess up” on Theo Walcott, while Granville laments Wayne Rooney’s form and the three of us tackle the merits of Mahrez, Ozil and loading up on City assets.

This episode was originally broadcast live on Monday using Google Hangouts via our YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe to our channel to get notifications of future live episodes.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Ah, you were talking about your temporary value building team, fair enough. For a minute I thought you were picking players like Ayew, Mahrez or Payet over proven ones like Hazard.

Is there any evidence there's a bias towards prices dropping vs rising? I.e easier to drop than to rise?

I would say so, for one reason... People are gravitating to a limited number of bandwagons, so increases are focussed in a small area, but they're moving away from a far wider spread of players. And if you're talking about people selling off relatively low ownership players, it doesn't take much for their value to drop.

Us wildcarders - we all have a huge Chelsea shaped hole. I can see them doing well at WBA and then there will be a scramble.

The worst part of people WCing is that most of their teams were actually quite decent before they hit the button, they ended up changing it to the EPL Dreamteam from the first 2 GW's

The introduction of the chip's devalues the wildcard effect from previous years and it's so important the get off to a good start with it hard to make ground after Christmas if your chasing.

A lot of players on here had an awful start and chose to move quick to correct.

Who knows what what will happen upto Christmas before it has to be played, there could be a couple of other optimal moments to play the WC but I would say this is one of those moments for most.

Depends on your team setup but wouldn't say terrible time at all.

Think all depends on individual situations and both sides have their merits but it does seem like the rise threshold has increased.

I personally think 2 weeks is too small of a sample size to derive any conclusions which is why I'm holding out. Not concerned with +/- 0.5 at this point.

                    Bottom 3 CS's each season

2014/15: QPR, Palace, Newcastle (1 Promoted team)
2013/14: Fulham, Caridff, WBA (2 Promoted teams)
2012/13: Wigan, Reading, Villa (2 Promoted teams)
2011/12: Bolton, Blackburn, Norwich (2 Promoted teams)

Usually 2/3 promoted teams finish in the bottom 3 CS's each season

At least for the medium term. My team always evolved based on form anyway, and I certainly haven't bought players to build value who I'm not confident of delivering me FPL points. That's my priority at the end of the day.

    Courtois McCarthy
    Lovren Darmian Kolorov Richards Jenkinson

          Chelski are not yet fit.
          This league is much tougher.

I'm with you on the last point especially, Hazard is a season keeper for sure, but at 2m cheaper I actually thought Pedro has been priced fairly generously.

              I don't have Hazard, currently - but I will.

So any prospect of buying Pedro is currently zero. And at anything more than 8.5 will remain that way.

I'm not doing too great. 71 points so far, but waiting for a few weeks before I WC. Took a -4 this week to bring I'm Kolarov, Yaya and Kun for Koscielny, Sterling and Rooney. Think it's a bit mad to WC after 2 weeks tbh

Keepers are a transfer waiting to happen and Targett not nailed. Presume you are playing 3-5-2? Downgrade Wilson to 4.5 and upgrade keeper & Targett

Why are keepers a problem? Both are starters for their clubs. Targett I see your point

Myhill is out as soon as Foster is back fit (Oct), and a likely similar situation with McCarthy when Speroni returns (although there are people who believe the latter will hold his place)

My fear with this template is that it will look very old hat in about 3 game weeks time.

I generally support template/mainstream for 80% of teams players selection but this year more than and other, team tend to look all the same after 2 gw. I ma not much in favour of differentials because it generally backfires in the long run but I Will probably WC differentiating a lot this year.

Targett to Kolarov is a huge upgrade. I would value Kolarov as a ~8.0m defender.
