Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 13 – Monday

Jermain Defoe grabs a late winner for Sunderland at Selhurst Park. Black Cats duo Billy Jones and Costel Pantilimon produce their second double-figure hauls in four appearances as Palace fail to score for the third time in the previous four Gameweeks.

Defoe Wins it for Black Cats

Jermain Defoe’s 80th minute strike granted Sunderland their first road win of the campaign. The 5.2-priced frontman – who was stationed alongside Steven Fletcher in a 3-5-2 set-up – capitalised on some risible defending from Crystal Palace centre-back Scott Dann to record his second goal in as many starts. The Black Cats’ tough schedule (STO, ars, WAT, che, mci, LIV) and his rotation risk ensure that Defoe remains a peripheral concern on the Fantasy scene, whilst his withdrawal due to an ankle problem is also a real concern for Sam Allardyce.

The Wearsiders’ triumph at Selhurst Park also produced their second clean sheet in four outings. Having assisted Defoe for the winner, Billy Jones scooped all three bonus points to bring home an 11-point return – the full-back has racked up 29 points in five appearances under Big Sam but is now set for a one-match ban after earning his fifth caution of the season.

Costel Pantilimon (4.8) tallied 10 points by virtue of two save and bonus points but is unlikely to attract investment when the likes of Boaz Myhill (4.8) and Jack Butland (4.7) are more enticing options in his price bracket. That being said, home ties against Stoke City and Watford in the next three Gameweeks are conducive to shut-outs.

Palace Home Toils Continue

Last night’s late defeat means that Alan Pardew’s side have now lost seven of their previous 11 meetings at Selhurst Park. Moreover, they rank third for shots inside the box conceded in home fixtures (62) and have managed just six goals themselves, illustrating their struggles at both ends of the pitch. As such, those Fantasy managers in possession of Newcastle United assets might be tempted to hold fire on any sales – despite their one goal in four matches – ahead of the Magpies’ trip to south London next Gameweek.

The Eagles will feel aggrieved not to have earned a result against Sunderland, given that they amassed the third most attempts (19) of any team in the Gameweek. Connor Wickham’s return to the starting line-up harvested three shots but zero on target, exposing his inevitable rustiness.

Yohan Cabaye fired off more than double the attempts (five) of any other Palace midfielder but ultimately carded his fourth blank in succession. Considering that the Frenchman has bagged just one goal and assist from open play this term (complementing his three penalties), his 15% ownership may be considering their options once the weekend home encounter with Newcastle has passed.

This Coutinho news is the worst scenario. Confirm he's out for 2 weeks, and i'll get Ozil. If he's fine, i'll get him. But now i probably have to miss rises for both just to wait and find out.

I foresee a Swans' victory. Most of the times when Liverpool did a great match against the big 4, it lost/draw the next game. Now that Coutinho might not be lined-up, Ayew seems to a differential..AGAIN 😛

Think I'm finally fed up of Mane, he's been an utter disaster whilst I've owned him. I'm certain he'll be a good option at certain times of the season but this definitely hasn't been it. Now to decide who to turn into a 2 point machine next. Ozil? Eriksen? Firmino? So many midfielders to break...

I've owned Mane for 3 weeks (sold Westwood for him), and I that time I've benched Mahrez (15 pts), played my AoA chip to bench Janmaat (5pts), and not had enough cash to bring in Erikson or Ozil for Payet this week (8 / 10 pts).

My friend, you do not know THE MEANING of being fed up with Mane! 😀

Haha, that's actually ridiculously similar to me:

GW11 brought him in for Westwood and benched Mahrez's 15 points
GW12 played AOA (ended up cost neutral for me though)
GW13 suspected he'd be benched but decided not to sell him as I'm a weak fool

Everyone owns 3 from Kane/Kun/Vardy/Lukaku...and 3(or 4) from Alexis/Ozil/Mahrez/Kdb....while the defenders are a bit of a bunch of Liquorice allsorts....

      Maybe on here.

Alexis was 50% ownership in top 10k and KdB less than that, plus plenty ditching this week. You can still make up ground with these.

Yeah, I'm looking at top 10k...i just feel we are all heading in the same directions once again...while Smalling(46%) is highest owned def in top 10k, and not owning Bellerin(26%) might a differential in it's own right.

    6. charlie1X
      • 11 Years

There is major crack developing around the City midfield. This is partly to do with fixtures but also bad form and the prospects of Silva and Aguero being both back. The market is very stressed, particularly around KDB

No form, being moved around every game. Looks like a utility player as judging from their first 5 games, they have a superior player for every position in the team: LW Sterling pace and fantastic passing triangle with kolorov and Silva. Silva hole. Navas Pace and width on the RW. If P{ellegrini hasn't noticed this particularly after the Liverpool game, where Yaya and KDB proved they couldn't work together to press then frankly he should be sacked.

    Which Defender do I play?

    Hennessey

Sagna Bellerin ( Simpson or Janmaat)

    KDB sanchez Mahrez Barkley

    Vardy Aguero Lukaku

    DDG------------Stanislas----Simpson/Janmaat----Cedric

So, Simpson (MUN) or Janmaat (cpl)

    Won't be taking a -4 for a defender so it's one of these 2.

    Thanks

      to get Aguero.

Little do they no, Kun makes him more dangerous 😀

That's why I sold Williams, and not KdB, to get Kun

He's a good player but is he 10.7 good?...I certainly wouldn't want him ahead of Ozil for example even if they were the same price.

oh I agree Wakey, not worth the money IMO

Ozil is doing the same job for a lot less money, plus KDB is not captain material (which I'd want for 10.7) as the fixtures aren't great right now, and when they are, you're not going to (c) him over Aguero

He's very decent But Silva averages a better ppg and with KDB in the team the team averages the lowest team points as compared to all the other options. City were ona different planet playing before KDB arrived late.

Stats aren't amazing over the last few GWs, cheaper mids performing better = money for Aguero.

I'm keeping him for a bit yet, though.

      cheers lads

Interesting as so many said they'd want to have both. I guess that's the FFS bubble again.

One of the reasons I didn't get on wc was because I knew I knew I'd end up having to sell him to get Kun.

I don't think it will be too bad as things are quite relaxed here but still - no idea where I'll be sitting or who will be nearby!

Never bench Butland. If there's one thing I've learned this season it is never bench Butland.

Same 3 defenders I've got as well.

      Save transfer.
