Team Analysis – Assessing Silva’s Hull City

Written off as relegation certainties just over a month ago, Hull City’s survival bid has been given a significant shot in the arm since the arrival of new manager Marco Silva.

Two wins and a draw in five matches under the Portuguese’s stewardship, supplemented by clean sheets against the likes of Mancheser United and Liverpool, have seen many Fantasy Premier League managers assess the KCOM outfit in a new light.

Key to Hull’s appeal is, of course, that they play in both Gameweek 26 and 28 – indeed, Silva’s men are one of just eight sides currently set to feature in the latter round of matches.

As the interest starts to escalate in light of this weekend’s FA Cup results, we cast an eye over Hull’s recent matches, comparing the numbers to their previous statistics for signs of progress, while checking out the Tigers’ chief performers as we look to navigate the tricky upcoming schedule.

Hey all, early thoughts on this?

    Heaton (Pickford)
    Coleman Baines McAuley (Holebas Pieters)
    Alli Eriksen Siggy Philips (Sanchez)
    Lukaku Kane Carroll

    1FT 1.2m. Should I think about Alli/Eriksen > Mane/Firmino, or save?

    Anything else? Cheers in advance

Yeah I would for Mane - you have Kane and Alli OR Eriksen anyway. Gives you Mane v Leicester and 9 GW28 players with 2FTs to come.

No brainer imo - good luck picking which one to drop though, no idea.

Sanchez wasn't one of the options and I would rather have Sanchez v Liverpool than 3xSpurs vs Everton. If I could have 11 GW28 players AND keep Sanchez then I would - Pukka can do just that.

Yeah I figure I'll do it eventually so may as well do it this week.

As I'm trying to hold my rank mostly instead of moving up I'll probably wait until Friday. Won't bother about price rises/falls

If you want to hold rank then it's probably worth it... objectively I'd wait on the transfer... Alli or Eriksen could easily burn you and I think Spurs might hammer Stoke

            Mane home: 7.54ppg
            Mane away: 4.45ppg

That's off the top of my head so apologies if it's slightly off, thought it might be relevant

I rarely advocate hits but I think it might be worth it for Baines or Brunt... it's essentially play Carroll in a 3-5-2 or replace him with Baines/Brunt(-4)... Carroll is good for 2pts and Baines/Brunt could easily make that back this gameweek alone without even factoring in that you get an extra player in GW28... I think it's a sound plan

Is double West Brom defense too much?

Want to get Brunt in for the next two home games. I know fixtures take a turn for the worst but he is a nice differential.

    Already have McAuley and Phillips.

You'd have the same trio as me. It depends on your other 3 defenders... if you can fashion yourself a nice escape route past GW28 then I can't see why not...

    Hello All,

Current team below with 0FT and 0ITB

I know the midfield is rather weak for this GW, but would appreciate thoughts if I can get away with this or if anything is worth a hit (i.e Sanchez out as I am definitely holding Ibra)

    Jaku (Heaton)
    Alonso, Baines, Brunt, FM (Pieters)
    Mane, Siggy, Phillips, King (Sanchez)
    Costa, Lukaku (Ibra)

    Thanks in advance

To me, Brunt is really only a 2 week punt given WB play away to EVE in GW28 (and Brunt does nothing in away games) and then WB fixtures turn horrible. (I have him, but have had him for awhile now)

I would probably sit tight or if anything, go with upgrading Holgate to Maguire or Robertson as you could use one of them over the next three game weeks and then hold on as bench fodder if you have better options.

If you can find a way to survive, ie bench sanchez for gw26 & gw28 without the need to weaken the team too much then you will be ok.

We are all benching quality gw28. I will have costa alonso walker pedro benched at the very least that weekend. I just had too many of the above to accommodate holding sanchez especially as had no value tied up on him.

So I sold but I see no problem holding in your situation. Sure there is a way around keeping sanchez for the blanks if that what must be done.

Who knows he could shoot the lights out against Liverpool yet gw27 and all our magical planning (sanchez to mane) fcuked.

WB play Everton away in GW28 and Brunt doesn't usually do anything in away games. Maybe another option would be better if GW28 coverage is what you are after.

If you are planning on keeping the players you are adding longer term (and if you don't really have a good bench to cover), I think it is a good move. Amat doesn't play, while Sanchez, Ibra and Pogba blank for two out of the next three (provided ARS beat Sutton of course). In other words the 4 players you have at the moment will get you three games in total out of a possible 12 over the next three weeks, while the players you are bringing in would get you 10 games in total out of 12.

Only caveat is you should have a plan to get Sanchez back in after the blanks.

I like Robertson, however not much between them. Robertson more like to assist and maguire to score after checking his stats.

I agree with those saying Everton. Plus, their two main defenders, Baines and coleman, are also goal and assist threats.

I have Amat and Stanislas with 2FT. Should I get rid of both or just Amat and reassess next GW? Only Ibra and Sanchez not playing this GW.

Liverpool haven't really been awful. Maybe a bad run of results and not performing as well as they might without Mane and an up to speed Coutinho but not really awful.

The Swansea game has soured opinions a but but they actually dominated that game. It happens.

I disagree, don't forget the cup games against Southampton. Then the FA cup games against Plymouth and wolves. They have had the ball but created little. Spurs had a shocker against us. I think we will beat Leicester but our recent form has been awful.

Alli has a plum fixture... This is exactly the sort of game Liverpool struggle in and Mane is considerably worse away from home... it literally comes down to who would you rather play in the next two, Alli(STO, EVE) or Mane(lei, ARS) and I'd pick the former. If you'd pick the latter then go for it, you'll probably end up getting Mane in the end anyway 🙂

I would do Sanchez to Mane this week and then bring in Mawson next week. I don't trust a Hull double up on Def and Swansea only have two really tough fixtures the rest of the year from GW27 onwards so Mawson would appear to be a viable long term filler.

So most of us agreed Fulham Spurs was the best chance of an upset, naturally was the biggest margin of victory 😆
I could be boring and get Mane but seeing as everyone gonna be on Ibra in gw27 I'm very excited by the prospect of going with Sergio Kun Aguero instead. Course if city lose their replay he'll be more popular. Did anyone watch the game, did kun look ok?

    1. sy

I'd stay clear of kun, after bringing him back in straight after his injury. He doesn't look the same player at the moment and definitely not worth the price tag.
