The Technical Area – Assessing Abraham

After a quiet opening two months, it took a brace at home to Huddersfield to rocket Tammy Abraham – in the short term, at least – to the top of our search for a budget third striker.

Though the Chelsea loanee is clearly full of potential, his supporting cast at Swansea did little to foster any sense of optimism over the early Gameweeks.

Indeed, across their first seven matches, the Welsh outfit had registered a paltry three goals, drawing blanks on five occasions.

On the back of a 13-point performance, however, Abraham has jumped to the forefront of our thoughts, and in so doing has already gained over 156,000 new owners.

Have those of us jumping on the bandwagon identified a canny investment opportunity? Or is Swansea’s centre-forward merely the latest in a cut-priced line of false dawns up front?

In this week’s Technical Area we’ll be running through Abraham’s – and Swansea’s – key underlying numbers across the season and breaking down their forthcoming fixtures to better assess his potential moving forward.

If we're looking at xG and comparing him to Joselu, shouldn't we also be looking at their minutes played?
Joselu has played far less minutes (484 to 628), therefore giving a minutes/xG of 167.5 for Joselu and 176.9 for Tammy.

Watford's attacking players still under the radar. Pereyra, Doucoure and Deeney would be good signings in Draft Leagues...

As I say, it seems he has a good chance of being subbed in for Jones or Bavies but I think the probability of returns is higher for both. He's also been shifted away from some set pieces.

A £6.0 midfielder on the bench isn't a huge issue...

When, oh when, are we all going to realise that "Big Chances" are not a measure of a striker's success, but merely a precursor to his failure? Hmmm?

As in the striker is not clinical enough eh? I agree about that wrt Gabbiadini but they eventually convert them as Gab showed on weekend. I would better pick a striker who gets big chances every game than a one game wonder like Mounie who struck crazy just one week with only shots he had in the game

As someone who relies totally on stats and see's very little of live games/players in action maybe I should change my approach.
Sometimes I'm glad of the knee jerk reactionary comments here though even if in some quarters they are seen as misplaced, I mean I know from here I should never ever dream of captaining Salah, despite some off the chart stats.

If Deeney stakes a claim, then him. But I am not confident of that.

Gray worth a punt... Deeney being back may reduce his minutes, but he's a good player. Definitely worth it in a Draft League!

Ayew looks to be starting every game if you just wanted a solid 2 points each week!

Thats what Chelsea where last season, Manunited is this season. Need luck with no long term injuries like Chelsea had last season and Manutd can take City to the limit 🙂

Anyone worried about Aguero starting and Jesus on bench this week?

Thinking of doing Jesus > Morata - Free transfer.

    Thoughts?
