Dugout Discussion – Burnley vs Newcastle

The Gameweek finale falls on Turf Moor, for a Monday night encounter under the lights between Burnley and Newcastle United.

Fantasy interest is limited, in the main, to the defensive players on show. That’s a good thing scanning the statistics building up to this match.

Sean Dyche’s Clarets have scored the fewest home league goals this season, with just two efforts. But his defence have been typically miserly: only Liverpool and Manchester United have allowed fewer goals than the two conceded by Burnley.

Meanwhile, Newcastle arrive boasting just three away goals, only Everton and Crystal Palace have scored fewer.

Their goalkeeper, Rob Elliot, is the most owned player on show this evening. Now part of 26.4% of squads, the Magpies custodian trails only David De Gea (39.2%) in that respect. However, some 62% of Elliot’s 1.4 million owners keep him on the bench for Gameweek 10.

Stephen Ward has become the go-to option in the Burnley defence. The left-back is now owned by 14.7% of managers having already produced a goal and two assists this season, alongside three clean sheets.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Following on from Ruth's comment about the pricing mechanism earlier...and another question that I feel maybe should be discussed.

Is it not time that the FPL Gods implement their own price prediction system, like FPLStats/Fix?

The extent to which they do it would be entirely up to them and maybe we as a community could discuss to what extent would be best. Surely it would at the very least help us understand or get a better indication of what could happen i.t.o rises and falls instead of having to rely on outsiders trying to predict what algorithms are being used so they can then adapt their own mechanisms that we use.

I'm entirely on the fence on this topic and can see it from both sides, but I want to see what everyone else thinks.

As users of the various price predicting sites (and they are a God send), I know we are all occasionally frustrated at how or why players are rising and falling.

    Should they implement one? Why?
To what extent do you think would be best?
Would it benefit FPL to do so?

Hope RuthNZ's post is made a hot topic. Price movement feels too arbitrary this season.

FPL thrives on it being a secret how prices will move from season to season. I don't actually know why that's important if you are trying to manipulate and pressure people into more active engagement with the site by way of moving prices.

Prefer the randomness of it all to be honest. FPL provides enough information nowadays

I think what you are asking for is transparency, as the current system seems to be hidden under secret algorithmic anal canal loving analysts hidden in the dungeons of FPL Towers.

What we need to understand is that when the capstone is close to being placed upon the pyramid, the elite lawmakers will enjoy our demise, to such an extent that they will no longer bother hiding their cynical lies anymore as the very institutions that protected them, fall into the hands of the enemies that are led by them.

Don't think FPL should tell people about the price rises or implement any sort of price predixtion. That will only influence people to be more concerned about their TV.

As Ruth said, they are managing certain aspects of it this season and that isn't right.

I haven't being bothered by TV this season. I've had a few players fall in value that I could have shipped but kept them and the following week they've produced points and gone back to their original value in the weeks after.

I agree that isn't isn't okay to be managing certain aspects of the game this season. It obviously influences peoples decision-making and that's why perhaps some transparency in this regard would be helpful. At the very least to understand how, why and to how they are doing it to.

I agree COMPLETELY and have thought this for years

Most of my league competitors are casuals, and haven't the faintest idea to look at the FPLS or Fix, so I, knowibgvthe 'code' sites have a huge advantage over them every year

So long as FPL involves price rises / falls, then people will want to take and mitigate risk - by keeping the data under the tabs, they punish those without access to he data.

This years, otoh, is a complete fustercluck of their own making.

FPL have made a huge effort over the past 2 seasons to increase media content and drive interest all week.
The next area for growth should be the pricing element of the game. They could have a lot of fun with it, providing additional daily content such as "if 500 more managers show Lukaku the door in the next two hours, his price will drop. This is going right down to the wire, don't go anywhere".

I think they don't want to be transparent. They feel the need to protect sections of their client base. If they explain all, they will lose the ability to manipulate prices when they think it's for the greater good.

Perhaps they think it's too complicated. That group they're trying to protect might find the game interesting enough to participate so long as it's very simple. If it is marketed as a game in which pricing plays a significant part, they may feel they will lose that part of their base. It may also explain why there seems to be a concerted effort to reduce the impact of price changes on the game.

Personally I would prefer full transparency for this really interesting element of the game rather than guesswork.

I think FPL Towers setting up their own price prediction site could have its own pros and cons.

For example: It could perhaps allow the casual to actually see how all their "casual" transfers have influenced the market and therefore allow for less "casual" transfers to happen hopefully. Which would lessen random price fluctuations.

It could also however have an opposite effect in that more people now would have access to the market and could realistically try to sway it in certain ways to create rises and falls for certain players.

The pros and cons are there. Hearing peoples opinions has been interesting so far.

Please give a consideration to joining the Knocks & Niggles Mayhem draft league as posted in community articles.

52 out of 60 managers returned for year 5 of this league, it might just be fun.

I am considering cutting the C on Hazard this week if Kane ruled out. At home and he loves a big game. More to your question, I'll have both in my team from next week.

I know Morata is the current preferred Chelsea pick, but I think Hazard could outscore him in the coming weeks with a few explosions. Hopefully helped by a few penalty conversions!!!

look at Arsenal's fixtures again and get rid of Kolasinac before Alonso

Both have 2 hard games in 3 matches
Also I can't buy morata without selling alonso
I can afford firmino with selling kola

Saving transfer means you might end up keeping Alonso. If Rooney scores you will delay Morata transfer.

    Elliot pope
    Luiz stones jones ward (kiko)
    Hazard sterling richarlison (caroll)(hogg)
    Jesus laca vardy

    1 FT 3.0 itb

All transfers depend on kane but if kane is out then?
    Please suggest
    Thinking of jesus > kun

Same situation. Waiting on Kane. Have Jesus and some cash. Jesus to Kun is an easy decision this week but we will want Kaku after this for his two home games.

Hi all - looking to save transfer this week.
    My current team
    Elliot
    Naughton - Alonso - Jones - Davies
Sterling - Salah - Choupa Moting
    Kane(c) - Aguero - Morata
Krul - Loftus cheek - Carroll - Hunemeier

    0.0 itb.
    A. Save
    B. Make a transfer. (Which player?)

Thinking that 2 ft over international break is beneficial.
